After a well-deserved sleep, I sluggishly pulled on my clothes for today. I put on a brown bodice that held another one of my white pirate shirts, black shorts, my pirate boots and hat. Unfortunately, due to school rules, I was unable to bring my cutlass with me to class, which sucked. My arms were adorned with various gold bracelets that I had managed to pilfer over the years. I grabbed my coat from the back of my chair and slipped it on. I ran my fingers through my hair to neaten it before heading out to the first class of the day, Remedial Goodness 101 with the headmistress herself as our teacher. The five of us barely paid attention. Mal and Evie were sitting on one side with Carlos, Jay and myself on the other. "If someone hands you a crying baby, do you A, Curse it. B, Lock it in a tower. C, Give it a bottle. Or D, Carve out its heart." I yawned, despite sleeping, last night's activities made me tired. Evie acted like she was paying attention but wasn't. Carlos and Jay were staring blankly at the blackboard.
"What was the second one?" She asked innocently,
"Ok anybody else?" Fairy Godmother asked us, "Mal."
"C, Give it a bottle." Mal responded blandly,
"Correct. Again!" Fairy Godmother gushed,
"You are on fire girl!" Carlos exclaimed.
"Just...pick the one that doesn't sound like any fun." Mal told us.
"Oh my Gods that makes so much sense." I sighed. Mal gave me her signature 'Duh' look. I stuck my tongue out at her in retaliation. Then, a girl in a pale blue dress with a blue bow in her hair rushed past us and up to the Fairy Godmother. I eyed the girl with a raised eyebrow.
"Hello dear one!" Fairy Godmother said sweetly.
"Hi! You need to sign off an early dismissal for the coronation!" The girl shoved a clipboard into the Fairy Godmother's hands as she looked fearfully at us. We all exchanged glances.
"Everyone here remembers my daughter Jane." Fairy Godmother said, her eyes not leaving the clipboard
"Mum!" Jane looked back at her.
"It's ok." Jane's mother assured as she handed her daughter the clipboard. "Jane this is everyone." Fairy Godmother pushed Jane towards us.
"Hi! Don't mind me! As you were." Jane gave a small courtesy. She squealed and rushed past our tables and out of the room.
"Let's continue." Fairy Godmother turned back to the chalkboard. "You find a vial of poison. Do you A, Put it in the King's wine." Evie's hand went slightly up. "B, Paint it on an apple." I turned and winked at Evie, who snickered alongside Mal. "Or C, Turn it over to the proper authorities." My hand shot up alongside Jay, Carlos and Evie's. Jay pulled Carlos' hand down. When he tried to use his other hand, I pinned that one down too. "Hadley." Fairy Godmother said, pointing at me with her stick...thing.
"The correct answer is C. You turn the poison over to the proper authorities." I said smugly, folding my arms in front of me.
"I was gonna say that." Carlos protested, slapping my arm.
"But I said it first, Carlos." I cooed. I then grabbed Carlos in a headlock and started to give him a noogie, "Who said it first Carlos? Who?" I yelped as a pair of arms picked me up and off Carlos. "Jay!" I protested, laughing.
"Children!" Fairy Godmother said loudly, catching our attention. Carlos, Jay and I froze, turning to the headmistress. "Boys, I would encourage you to use that energy on the Tourney field." Pointing at a green field outside the classroom window. "Hadley. How about I sign you up for cheerleading?"
"Oh no." Carlos said, sitting up, "Whatever that is we-we'll pass."
"Sorry FG." I said, lifting my peg up onto the table. "I'm about a quarter of limbs short."

After 'Remedial Goodness 101' had ended, Mal, Evie and I went to our lockers to get our things for our next class with the good guys. Evie and I hung around Mal's locker for a little while before we had to go. I heard a peal of bell-like laughter and turned my head to see Audrey entering the courtyard with Ben and another boy. "Hey." The other boy said, gently slapping Ben's chest before gesturing to us. "Those kids are trouble."
"Bye Mal, bye Hads." Evie said to us before walking away.
"See 'ya." I said.
"Come on Chad," Ben replied. "Give them a chance."
"No offence Benny Bear." I snorted at Audrey's second ridiculous nickname for Ben. "But you're just too trusting! I know your mum fell in love with a big, nasty beast that turned out to be a prince! But with my mum, the Evil Fairy was just the Evil Fairy. And with everybody, the Psyco Pirate was just the Psycho Pirate. Those girls' parents!"
"I'll see you 'round Mal." I tipped my hat to her, pushing myself off the lockers and hobbling away. I had about three lessons before the last one of the day. I did not understand anything that any of my teachers were saying. Dad decided that there was no reason for me to go to school, it was Pirate lessons 24/7. I'm better than my older brother though, I can count at least. I found myself in History of Woodmen and Pirates for my last lesson. Ironic if you ask me. I found myself seated next to the one and only Audrey. She sat away from me, but it was free learning, so everyone was talking. "So you think just because my dad's a psycho that I'm one too?" I asked. Audrey turned and eyed me.
"Isn't that what all kids dream of?" Audrey asked. "To be their parents?" I snorted.
"I already lost a leg, I don't need to lose a hand too."
"Oh…" Audrey looked down. "If you don't mind me asking, how did you…" Audrey glanced wearily down at my leg. "You know."
"Oh, you know I got a little too close to Tick-Tock's jaws when I was…" My eyebrows pinched together. "What, four? Bit my leg clean off, I'm lucky I managed to get away when I could, lived leg-less up until last year. Fashioned this out of some old wood." I gestured to my peg.
"That's...smart." Audrey admitted. I smirked.
"You don't live on the Isle without picking up a few things." There was a little pause before Audrey spoke again.
"How are you liking Auradon?" She asked me. I looked at her, but she was looking at her work and trying to act as if she wasn't talking to a VK.
"It's ok." I said, turning back to my work. There was nothing on my page, I had no idea what I was doing. "Only problem is that I don't understand a single thing any of my teachers are saying."
"Why's that?"
"I didn't go to school on the Isle. Dad decided that I didn't need it, I was supposed to be my brother's first mate, but he was snatched away by Ursula's daughter and now he's first mate, and I'm just a spare."
"I am so sorry." There was another pause. "If you want...I could come over and...and help you catch up?"
"Why are you being nice to me?" I asked, turning to her with furrowed eyebrows. "You and Mal are at each other's throats almost every time you cross paths."
"You're not as bad as she is." I smiled softly, but then cleared my throat as my cheeks burned. The bell then rang and I hurriedly gathered my things.
"I'll see you around Princess." I said before quickly hobbling out of the room.

Evie, Mal, Jane and I were in Mal and Evie's dorm that afternoon. Apparently, Mal had decided that Jane would be a good way to get the wand. Mal had spelled her and given her a new hairstyle, which looked really nice on her. Jane was pacing back and forth, complaining to us about how her mother wouldn't make her beautiful. I was laying back on Mal's bed, my arm thrown across my eyes, my peg laying on the mattress while my other leg was resting against the floor. Mal was sketching something as she sat cross-legged on Evie's bed while Evie herself was working on an outfit. "Mum said 'If a boy can't find the beauty within then he's not worth it'." Jane complained. "Can you believe that? What world does she live in!" Jane plopped herself down on the end of Mal's bed.
"Yeah, just sit there." I muttered sarcastically. "I'm not here at all."
"Auradon." Mal scoffed.
"Mal, Hads, do you like?" Evie asked, holding up the dress she was sewing.
"Yeah. It's cute. Brings out your eyes."
"I know." Evie complimented herself.
"I'll never get a boyfriend." Jane said.
"Boyfriends are so overrated." I said, moving my arm so I could gaze down at Jane at the other end of the bed. "They're just the worst."
"How would you know Hadley, you've never had one." Evie accused.
"Because girlfriends would be so much better."
"Plus, boyfriends are a waste of time." Mal added. Evie gasped.
"I forgot to do Chad's homework!" She jumped up and went to get Chad's backpack, "Oh no. Oh no, no, no no!" Evie scurried to the table in the middle of the room.
"And that is exactly what I mean." Mal said as Evie started on the homework. There was a knock at our door and a girl came through. I thought Auradonians were supposed to be nice and respect people's space? Apparently not. The girl had short black hair cut into a bob.
"Hey guys! I'm Lonnie." She introduced. I lifted an eyebrow. I had no idea who this person was at all, and apparently, neither did Mal or Evie, with the blank looks that they were giving her.
"My mum's Mulan?" Lonnie continued, "No? Ok. I love What you've done with Jane's hair and I know you guys hate us and well, you're evil. But do you think you can do mine?" She asked.
"Why would I do that?" Mal questioned,
"I'll pay you fifty dollars." She replied, holding out a purse that jingled with coins.
"Good answer." Evie said. She stood up and snatched the purse from Lonnie's hand. "I need to buy more material. Let's see, I'm thinking we lose the bangs, maybe some layers-" Lonnie cut her off.
"Oh, no, no, no! I want it cool but cute." She turned to look at Mal, cool like Mal's and cute like Hadley's."
"Hey hey hey!" I said, sitting up. "My hair ain't cute."
"Realy. The split ends and salty locks too?" Mal glared at Evie. Evie shook the pouch with the money in it. Mal groaned and rolled off the bed. I stood up and tossed her spell book over to her which she caught. Mal walked over to one of the bedposts on Evie's bed and wrapped herself around it.
"Beware forswear, replace the old, with cool but cute hair." Mal recited. Mal moved her finger and Lonnie's head moved with it. Lonnie's bob transformed into long brown wavy hair. Lonnie went to look in the full-length mirror.
"I know. I know." Evie put her arm around Lonnie. "It looks like a mop on your head. Let's cut it off, layer it-" Lonnie once again cut Evie off,
"No, no, no! I-I love it!" She exclaimed.
"You do." Evie said, frowning.
"It's just…" Lonnie took her skirt and ripped it. "Now I'm cool." She declared.
"Like Ice." I stated. Jane stepped in front of Lonnie. She also ripped her skirt and then realised what she did.
"What did I just do!" She whimpered, "Mum's gonna kill me!" Later, after Jane and Lonnie left, Carlos came into our dorm carrying a dog. A dog! He sat down at the foot of Evie's bed, scratching the dog and looking something up on a laptop. I was still sitting on Mal's bed, my cutlass in my lap as I sharpened it. Evie was using her Mirror to finish both hers and Chad's homework, and Mal was flipping through her Spell Book at rapid speed. Jay then burst through the door, sporting a blue jersey with his name and the number 8 on the back. I let out a low whistle, reaching my hand out for a high-five, which he gave me before sauntering over to Mal. He leaned on one of the bedposts.
"Did your plan work with Jane?" He asked, "Are you going to see the wand?"
"Do you think I would be going through every spell in this book if I hadn't completely struck out?!" Mal said irritably.
"Well someone's in a bad mood." Carlos muttered.
"My Mum's counting on me! I can't let her down!" Mal flicked Carlos in the head.
"We can do this," Jay declared. We all looked at him. "If we stick together." He finished. I eyed him. Mr 'There's no team in I' is telling us to stick together?
"And we won't go back until we do." Mal stated, "Cause we're rotten."
"To the core." We all finished,
"Oh yeah, I found out that Fairy Godmother blesses Ben with the wand at the Coronation and we all get to go." Evie said nonchalantly. Mal stared at her, I glanced up at her underneath my lashes…seriously, E? "I have nothing to wear of course." She continued, oblivious to my stare. Then a knock was heard at the door. My eyes flicked to the door and then back to Evie. She noticed our gaze. "What?" She asked.
"You couldn't have mentioned anything earlier?" I hissed.
"Hold that thought." Mal stated, pointing at Evie as she walked to the door. It opened to reveal Ben.
"Hey, Mal!" Ben greeted, "I didn't see you guys today. I was just wondering if you had any questions or anything that...you needed?"
"Not that I know of…" Mal looked behind her and us in the room. We just shrugged our shoulders. Mal turned back to Ben.
"Ok, alright, Well if you need anything…" He trailed off, starting down the hall.
"Oh wait!" Mal exclaimed. He paused and walked back to her. "Is it true that we all get to go to your Coronation?" Mal questioned. Ben smiled.
"Yeah, the whole school goes."
"Wow, that is beyond exciting. Do you think that it's a possibility that the five of us could stand in the front row next to Fairy Godmother just so we can...soak up all that Goodness?" Ben looked like he would let us but he then frowned slightly,
"I wish you could. But up front it's just me, my folks and my girlfriend."
"And you girlfriend?" Mal repeated. I could tell a plan was forming in her head.
"Yeah, I'm sorry."
"Ok thanks bye!" Mal closed the door in his face. She turned back to us, a wicked smirk on her lips.
"What are you planning?" I asked, smirking as well.
"I think it's time that Bennyboo got himself a new girlfriend." Mal told us. "And I need a love spell." She clapped her hands and Carlos threw Mal's Spell Book into them. Mal gave a small giggle as she started to flick through her book.
