Chapter 8
Kira and Tommy sped through Reefside on their vehicles, weaving around cars when needed. They made it to the park and stopped, seeing Conner, Ethan and Trent morphed and fighting a creature that looked like a mix between a human and a t-rex. Kira looked over at Tommy and they both nodded, revving their engines and speeding towards them, firing their lasers at the monster and forcing it away from the others.
"Hey guys, what did we miss?" Kira asked as they skidded to a stop and jumped off.
"Just this ugly guy trying to cause havoc." Conner said as they grouped together.
"I am Rexy." The monster said, drawing their attention back to it. "And my mission is to-"
"Woah, woah woah. Wait a minute." Ethan said, holding up his hand and making the monster stop. "What's your name?"
"My name is Rexy." The monster said, clearly confused. The rangers all shared looks for a moment before they burst out laughing, Kira having to lean on her bike to hold herself up.
"Zeltrax creates a creepy looking monster, and calls it Rexy?" Trent laughed, his helmet hiding the tears as he laughed.
"Man, and I thought Mesagog's names were bad." Tommy quipped.
"I was talking!" Rexy snapped, making them all look up.
"Oh right." Kira said as they composed themselves. "Are you wanting to carry on, or just get straight to us kicking your ass?"
"You dare speak to Rexy like that?" The monster shouted, making them all begin laughing again.
"Ah man, I know you're trying to be scary and all, but the name really contradicts that." Trent laughed.
"I will end you all!" Rexy shouted as he charged at them. They all pulled out their weapons and countered the attack, Conner using his Tyranno Staff to land a 2 footed kick to his chest as Kira and Ethan used their Thundermax Sabers to slash his legs, making him fall to the ground. The 5 fought the monster for a while, both sides landing various hits.
"He's learning." Kira commented as she tried to use her Ptera Grips to slash his chest, only to be grabbed by the arm and thrown into a bench.
"I'm getting bored of this." Conner said as they regrouped, Tommy helping Kira up. "Let's put them together." They all put their weapons together swiftly, the actions coming naturally to them, despite the year long hiatus.
"Z-Rex Blaster." They called as Conner levelled the weapon, Kira and Ethan on their knees in front to keep it steady, Tommy and Trent both with a hand on Conner's shoulder to help keep him upright. "Fire!"
"No!" Rexy cried as they blast hit him. They all stood up and smiled in their helmets as the smoke cleared and Rexy was no more.
"So, lesson from today." Tommy said, putting his teacher voice on. "Zeltrax needs to give his monsters new names."
"Amen to that." Conner laughed. "Come on. Lets get-" He suddenly stopped as a familiar light appeared, followed by rain localised over where Rexy previously stood. "Not this again." He grumbled as Rexy returned as a giant monster.
"Rexy is back!" He called, making them all share looks.
"Ok, even though he is giant, that name is still hilarious." Trent said, trying to keep his laugh in.
"What do we do now? We don't have Zords." Kira said.
"Yes you do." A voice said through their communicators, making Conner lift his.
"Hayley?" He asked.
"Yes. And you may want to call the Zords." She said from where she sat at the computers in the lab. Tommy called the Brachio Zord and they watched in amazement as it came over the horizon.
"You got the Zords back up and running!" Ethan exclaimed.
"Yep. That gem fragment was exactly what I needed to finish the repairs and repower them." She said with a smile. "Now you may want to call them before that monster destroys town."
"Right. TyrannoZord!" Conner called.
"TriceraZord!" Ethan called into his morpher.
"I've missed this part." Kira muttered as she raised her morpher. "PteraZord!" The Brachio Zord's compartments opened and the 3 Zords came out, Kira's PteraZord flying over them. They jumped and phased into their respective Zord's cockpits, all smiling as the coloured spheres appeared in front of them.
"DragoZord!" Trent called, making his own Zord appear from behind the waterfall, the BrachioZord not having enough space to fit the extra Zord. He entered his own Zord's cockpit and smiled.
"You know what to do guys." Tommy called from where he was stood on top of the BrachioZord's head watching the fight.
"PteraZord, Lasers!" Kira called as she flew over the monster, lasers shooting him from the PteraZord's mouth. She watched as Conner and Ethan performed their own attacks, distracting the monster from Trent's Zord sneaking up behind it. The DragoZord used its tail to strike the monster, just hitting it in the right spot to send it down. However, the large tail on Rexy flew straight into the PteraZord, causing it to fall to the ground.
"Kira! Are you alright?" Tommy called into his morpher.
"Yeah, I'm fine." She said, getting her Zord back in the air. "Although I am fed up with this. I think it's MegaZord time."
"Let's do it." Conner replied, smirking slightly. They led their Zords through the familiar routine of combining them, the TyrannoZord forming the legs, body, head and right arm. The TricerraZord fixed on to become the left arm and the PteraZord shifted to become the chest armour.
"Thundersaurus Max MegaZord!" They called as they all came together in the same cockpit with their control spheres in front of them. "Tyranno Drill!" The tail of the TyrannoZord that formed the right arm began to spin and they used it to strike Rexy in the centre, causing an explosion as they Monster was defeated.
"Nice job guys." Tommy said as they all joined him on the ground again and sent the Zords home.
"Is it bad that I missed my Zord?" Kira asked, making them laugh.
"Well, now we know that he's got the hydration thing working again." Conner said. "Although, if he wants us dead, why send that? It wasn't much of a challenge compared to what Mesagog used to send."
"I'm guessing he's still testing out the Geno-Randomiser." Trent said, getting looks from the others.
"The what?" Ethan asked.
"That's what Mesagog used to make his monsters." Trent said, wincing slightly. "Did I not tell you that after I stopped being evil?"
"Never mind." Tommy said, shaking his head. "Let's get back and see if we can figure out what that was about."

"Ok, all of the Zords are working normally." Hayley said as she turned to look at the Rangers in the lab. "The PteraZord had a couple of scratches, but nothing is majorly damaged."
"Thanks Hayley." Tommy said with a smile.
"It's good having them again." Conner said with a smile. "As long as Zeltrax doesn't decide to revive his Zord, then we'll be fine."
"He won't." Ethan said with a slight smirk. "His Zord was in pieces. Hayley and I incinerated most of it."
"Incinerated? How?" Trent asked before shaking his head at the look Hayley gave him. "Actually, I don't want to know."
"Wait, did you say most?" Tommy asked, looking at Ethan. "What did you do with the rest of it?" Ethan looked into the corner of the room and Tommy followed his gaze, his eyes widening. "Is that a robot?"
"I was going to programme it to follow Conner around and annoy him." Ethan said, making Conner give him a shocked look.
"Hey!" He exclaimed, only to get slapped on his shoulder by Hayley.
"Shush!" She snapped, pointing to the sofa in the room. "You'll wake her!" They looked over and saw Kira laying on the sofa, her head resting on her arm as she slept.
"When did she fall asleep?" Ethan asked as Tommy got up and went to the cupboard in the room.
"Pretty much as soon as you all demorphed." Hayley said, watching Tommy pull a yellow blanket out and drape it over Kira, gently lifting her head and putting a pillow under her.
"She did come straight for a gig. And she wasn't exactly feeling great before our fight this afternoon." Conner said.
"Let's leave her to sleep." Trent said, putting a hand on Ethan and Conner's shoulders. "Besides, it's late and we could use the sleep too. Dr O? Hayley?"
"I've got some work to get done." Tommy said, walking away from Kira. "I'll keep an eye on her and leave a note if she's still asleep when I go to bed."
"I should get the stock take at the café done." Hayley said, nodding to the boys as they climbed the stairs before turning back to Tommy, who had sat in one of the chairs in front of the computer. "Tommy, make sure you get some sleep."
"Goodnight Hayley." He replied, making her roll her eyes as she left the lab.
He spent some time on the computer, scanning the Zords more and making sure that the crystal fragment wasn't becoming overpowered, or even losing its power. He sighed and turned off the computer, running a hand over his face before going up into his office and picking up the stack of marking that he had, bringing it down into the lab so he could still keep an eye on Kira as he worked. He silently laughed to himself at some of the assignments he marked, wondering once again if any of his pupils actually listened to him.
"What time is it?" He jumped slightly and turned to see Kira had woken up and was now sat, rubbing her eyes as she groaned. He glanced down at his watch and laughed slightly as he saw the time.
"Almost 1am." He said, standing up and walking over to her, sitting next to her on the sofa.
"What are you still doing awake?" She asked, running a hand through her hair.
"I was doing some marking. Guess I lost track of time." He said, trying to hide a yawn.
"Guess I'd better head back to the flat. Let you get some sleep." She said, going to stand up, only to freeze when Tommy put a hand on her wrist.
"It's late and you don't have your car. You can stay here, or I can drop you off." He said, silently hoping she would choose to stay there.
"Tommy… Is that a good idea?" She asked, a slight frown on her face. As much as she wanted to stay with Tommy, she wasn't sure she'd be able to keep her feelings hidden if she stayed.
"Kira, do you really want to go back to the flat at this time?" He asked, making her frown. "You're tired, and clearly need the sleep."
"Ok." She muttered smiling slightly. She put the blanket over her away and followed Tommy up the stairs, stopping quickly in the kitchen to grab a drink. "I'm assuming I can use the guest room?" She asked, making him freeze for a moment.
"Give me a few minutes to tidy it up." He said before hurrying up the stairs and opening the door to the spare room for the first time in 4 months. He looked at all of Kira's belongings laying around and opened the cupboard, putting everything in there. He had just finished when there was a bang from outside, followed by Kira's voice. Tommy frowned and walked downstairs, seeing the backdoor open and hearing Kira's voice floating through.
"You four need to knock it off." She snapped as Tommy walked to the door and leant against the doorframe, seeing the 4 Raptors that normally roamed the woods stood in the garden in front of Kira. They all had their heads slightly bent forward and almost looked like children that were being told off. "You can do whatever the hell you like during the day, but you're supposed to chill out at night! And I know this was more than likely your idea, Ray!" She snapped looking at the red Raptor.
"Oi you lot." Tommy snapped, making them look at him. They started to get excited and run towards him, when he raised his hand and stopped them. "Bedtime. Go and keep the Zords company if you can't sleep." They shared looks before running back into the forest, Kira walking back to the house. "What did they do?"
"Oh, they saw me in the kitchen window and Ray decided it was a good idea for them to sneak up and scare me by banging on the window." She said with a slight laugh.
"Well, they won't come back now, unless the BrachioZord steps on them." He commented as they walked back inside. "Guest room is clean. And I grabbed these for you to sleep in." He handed her a pair of grey pyjama bottoms and a loose black top, that she knew belonged to him.
"Thanks." She said, taking the clothes from him. They walked up the stairs and Kira stopped outside the door to the room, turning back to Tommy. "Goodnight Tommy."
"Goodnight Kira." He replied with a smile. "Sleep well." He walked down the hall to his room and shut the door, slowly getting ready for bed. He knew as he climbed into the bed that he wouldn't sleep well, knowing Kira was just down the corridor.
