Chapter 1: Welcome, Mildred.
Mildred had found a love in flying. The Cool wind in her hair, the skills she could show off with, It was freeing! Even now, flying in a row besides Hecate and Pippa, it was freeing.
"We're getting close, Millie!" Pippa announced, pointing in front of them. Mildred looked over at the looming Sea. She should have noticed the salt in the air sooner, assaulting her nose and eyes. She could spot the sea incoming, blue and shining. It almost looked like bright pearls were dancing across the waves. She'd never imagined Hecate growing up with something so tranquil and beautiful.
That was until she spotted what must have been the creepiest house she'd ever seen. There was something unsettling about the dark wood that lined the building, along with the practically black paint job over the worn out bricks. It looked massive from the sky alone, Two floors, three if you class what must be a brilliant Attic.
Mildreds eyes glanced over the area as they began to descend. Beautiful trees, dark flowers, white cobbles lining a beautiful courtyard.. And a forest surrounding the area before the glamorous Sea. Plenty of areas for Mildred to explore.
Upon Landing fully, Hecate turned to her. Things between them had been fine, Really.. But Mildred couldn't help but feel this sense of Awkwardness. Her Mom had tried to Kill Mildred, and then almost Killed Hecate. If Mildred hadn't figured out how to two person transport there and then, She would have almost certainly be dead right now. On top of that, Mildred had dodged the Question on what she and her mother had talked about.. Not wanting to tell Hecate yet that her mother had basically given the mum role to Hecate..
"Mildred, Would you mind waiting here for a moment." Hecate asked in her usual clipped tone.
Pippa's Hand found its place on Mildred's shoulder, They always managed to harmonise without issue, it was so easy for the pair. "We won't be two ticks." She shot her a wink, Prompting an even bigger smile out of Mildred.
She watched the adults walk towards the big oak doors before turning around dramatically, letting her hair fly with the sea side wind. For the first time in well over a year, she felt truly free. Maybe it was being so far away from cackles and in the open space. Or maybe it was knowing that Julie Hubble wouldn't be crashing down upon them anytime soon.
She noticed at the end of this long and unnecessary driveway, was a Tall Oak tree, it's branches reaching out like hands into the wind. She wandered her way up to it and placed her broom beside it. She Let out a sigh as she readied herself. "Lift me up, Lift me high, Give me a boost, towards the sky." Mildred muted, her hands facing the ground, She slowly began to lift herself higher till she got to a lovely branch towards the top of the tree.
She sat herself there and marvelled at the View, She could see clear as day, the vase ocean before her. The Wind calmed the sun, allowing her to bask in nothing but her own contentness and happiness. She'd be lying if she said she wasn't worried about coming to Hecate's old stomping ground. Somehow, It'd ended up just as she imagined. A Haunted house in the middle of nowhere. But she hadn't expected the tranquil loveliness of the surrounding area.
"Mildred..!" A Voice called her from the distance.. It took her a moment to realise. "Mildred!" It was Hecate yelling for her. She quickly climbed out the tree and to the floor, collecting her broom and legging it back down the driveway. "MILDRED!"
"I'm here! I'm here!" She called out, coming to a breathless stop before Hecate. She looked anything but impressed. "S-Sorry.."
"Where were you?" Hecate all but demanded, despite her sharp tone, her eyes held a cloud of worry for Mildred's safety. It made Mildred look down at Hecate's Arms. They were clad in their usual black sleeves, but under them, Mildred knew the burns still decorated her skin.
"I was.." Mildred pulled herself away from the rabbit hole of guilt, pointing over to the large tree. "I was in the tree.. It has a lovely view of the sea."
Hecate sighed as her eyes glanced over at the tree, a strange expression crossed her face that Mildred couldn't Quite place. "Come inside now. I'll show you to your room." She leads the way, to the large doors, as if portals to another dimension.
Once they entered, Mildred was struck by how.. Hardbroom it was. Dark Wood furnishing, Black and decorative Paint and wallpaper lined the entrance room and deep red carpets paved the walk way.
"Entrance way, Place your broom by the door." Hecate announced. Mildred happily placed her own broom by Hecate's and Pippa's. Hecate pointed to their right. "Living Room, and Library, You may use it as you please, But make sure to return any books." Hecate gave Mildred a Pointed stare before moving on to the left. They walked into a large dining room, Far larger for any Four Person family. This was made for whole family gatherings.
"Dining room." She pointed to a door on the other side of the room. "Study, Please stay out of it." She'd said it with such timidness, Mildred wondered if even she was allowed inside. She Pointed to another door. "The Kitchen." And then moved to one that looked like a Cupboard. Only, when she'd opened it, it was a set of stairs.
Mildred followed on speechless by the house. Living in an apartment most of her life, this was like something out of a story! "Bathroom." Hecate tapped on a door. "You'll find myself and Pippa here." Another door tapped. She finally came to a stand still.
Hecate gave her one of her rare smiles. "Where you'll be staying. I trust you can explore the house more in your own time." That sounded like a challenge.
LEMME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK! What do you thinks gonna happen? What do you -want- to happen?
