A/N: Set sometime during the Ahsoka series, presumably kind of early. Nothing definitive, no background, just an idea I had. Characters may be OOC at times, I apologize for nothing.

The failure of the mission had not been Shin's fault, Baylan knew that. But Morgan Elsbeth didn't care who was responsible, only that the mission had failed. She was not happy, and Shin just so happened to be the closest target for Morgan to unleash her disapproval on. Had she only spoken harsh words, Baylan might not have done anything, but she had the audacity to strike his apprentice. And that was something he wouldn't stand for. He stepped foward, pushing Shin back gently, and leveled Morgan with a look that spoke volumes. "She needs to be disciplined for her failure," Morgan said.
"Perhaps," Baylan said, "But she is my apprentice, it is not your place to discipline her."
Morgan studied him for a moment, then glared back at Shin, "See that you deal with her accordingly."
"Of course," Baylan said, then he leaned in closer, "If you ever raise your hand against her again, or attempt to harm her in any other way, there will be consequences." With that, he turned a headed for the door, Shin falling into step behind him.
They walked in complete silence all the way back to their shared quarters. Once inside, Baylan turned to Shin. Her gaze was averted to the floor. "You're not in trouble," Baylan said, "I know the failure of the mission had nothing to do with you." He placed his hand beneath her chin and tilted her head up. The side of Shin's face had reddened where Morgan had slapped her. Baylan searched the small kitchenette for a moment, then he returned, handing Shin a cold pack. "Go get some rest," he ordered.
Shin nodded, "Yes Master." She walked to her small room, but paused before closing the door. She turned, the faintest hint of a smile graced her features, "Thank you, Master." Then the door slid closed.
Baylan smiled fondly, "You are welcome, my apprentice."
A/N: OOC? Yeah, probably. But I don't really care. I love these two, I can't get enough of them. Anyway, this is going to be a collection of one-shots, all centering on Baylan and Shin. I have lots of ideas, and as we see more of them in the Ahsoka series, I'm sure I'll get more ideas. I make no promises about updates, they'll be whenever I'm inspired to write.
