Chapter 5- Charles Wendellheim III

With a garrison of NCR soldiers,securitrons and the EONV they were to escort Karl and Joseph out of freeside to complete their expedition to mojave drive in and the casino with a radio frequency around camp golf.

Charles with a clear nervous look on his face was fidgeting his hands throughout the whole march to go out of freeside.

Karl, concerned for his boss and friend, asked "You seem nervous Charles, you need a smoke. I got some cigs here."

"Ghouls don't smoke Karl.

"Well you'll feel a little bit said Karl

"No we don't. Anyway i'm not nervous and am totally fine, don't worry about me."

In truth, Wendellheim was very nervous but he had to be brave for his team and for New Vegas. The change in leadership of the casinos before the second battle of Hoover dam in the casinos was worrying. The Ultra Lux has tried to engage in their tribes origins of cannibalism, the leader of the tops benny stole the platinum chip which could upgrade the securitrons for House, the platinum chip had also helped in the 2nd battle of hoover dam tremendously giving the legion more of a pyrrhic victory during hoover dam making it less decisive and Gommorah's leader Nero had gotten bribes from Caesar to poison New Vegas. Yet the EONV had always been there to stop this,they were the shield of New Vegas and the shield was being torn apart leaving the defenders to these stressful times Wendellheim had been writing a memoir about his rise to being CFO of Robco Industries and how he handled his role of being CFO especially during the battle of anchorage and the after effects of it, he wanted to be remembered so he wrote it to commemorate his favorite time of his life. This memoir also deals with how people oblivious to him and sometimes people who knew him treated him differently due to being Chinese, similarly to how he was being treated now based off him being a ghoul even if his father was House and how he had to always prove himself.

They continued marching and exited the strip.

Once in Freeside the locals looked at them with fire and hate. They were throwing rocks at them.

This was pissing off Charles and the others but they're mission was too escort Karl and Joseph out of freeside.

Once they were about to exit the first gate a woman was trying to approach them.

One of the ncr troops asked "Out of the way lady, you are standing in the way . We are under direct orders from House to shoot anyone who gets in our way."

She was pointing at Charles with anger on her face and screamed "You killed my son. You and your other cronies are slaves to House."

And just like that she had stabbed the NCR soldier with a pocket knife and they were somehow surrounded by a bunch of freeside locals and kings.

Charles shot the lady then said "Go Joseph, Go Karl. Get out of you leave freeside inform me on the pip boy"

They both said that they weren't gonna leave but ultimately relented.

With them gone Charles, the NCR troops and Securitrons were trying to hold the gate that allowed them to the outer gate of freeside.

They had both kings and regular freeside residents with about 15 of them and CHarles's group with 4 NCR troops and 3 securitrons.

When she shot the lady one of the kings had shot his arm.

He had used his other arm to kill a few of the kings.
The securitrons were killing some of them but 3 of the NCR troops had gone down.

On his pip boy Joseph had said that he was outside of Freeside.

Thus Charles commanded them to get out of the gate area and move to the atomic wrangler casino where the House supporters were.

1 of the NCR troops who had gone down was still alive but wounded so the other NCR soldier had to drag him.

The kings had destroyed one of the securitrons and sensing that the situation was desperate he threw a plasma grenade killing some of them. They still had a few people and were coming at them.

But they were close to the atomic wrangler and the people there pushed back and killed the kings.

Once in the atomic wrangler Charles said "Get this soldier some help he's injured and get me some alcohol and bandages to fix up my arm and a room for some privacy"

With the materials he got a private room up in the atomic wrangler and fixed up his arm. After that he called house on his pip boy.

House asked "How is the situation?"

"The kings ambushed us we were able to kill them but they killed some of the securitrons and NCR soldiers."

"What is the casualty rating?"

"About 15 of the kings died with them destroying 1 securitron and killing 2 of the NCR soldiers. 1 is wounded but they seem grave and he is likely to die."

"That was a subpar performance Charles, how did they ambush you."

"Must have been stealth boys, actually do you remember when we gave the followers broken stealth boys they could've given them to the kings."

"Are they that resourceful, hm must have underestimated them at least they aren't snooping on my tech anymore. ANyways continue your mission."

"Wait, can you put Iris on."

"Okay."

Iris now on the line said "Are you okay love?"
"Yeah I'm fine my arm was shot though but those implants you made make it still function well, doesn't mean it hurts like hell but I fixed it."

"That's good to hear. Do you need any reinforcements? I can ask house to send you some securitrons?"

"No don't worry about me honey, There is something I would like to ask of you. If I die, however unlikely it might be, I want you to finish my memoir."

"You're always like your father with the backup plans but you won't need me to finish your memoir because you won't die but I want you to shut up because I know your gonna ask again so yes I will finish it."

"Thanks love."

Once he left the room the NCR soldier pinned him to the wall.

He said " He was my friend, Patrick died from his wounds and it was your fault. If you hadn't done this mission to send those other guys out of freeside for some reason to go on some fucking mission that us NCR don't even know about. The brass only approved it because we have to gain favor with House. So tell me why you fucking muttie why my friends, Harold,Chad and Beckie had to die?"

"What's your name again?"

"Sean, if you'd gotten the time to know us NCR troops and not do whatever you do in that stupid Lucky 38 casino."

"Well Sean if you ever threaten me again I will put you 6 feet under around everybody here. Oh and you want a reason why they died? There is no reason, they did their duty and that's all that matters."

Charles pushed him out of the way and went down to the atomic wranglers main area.

Once down one of the owners of the Casino who he had remembered as Francine Garret due to being in the casino sometimes said "We are meeting in the silver rush to discuss the situation you probably need ammo so you could replace your weapons in the silver rush."

Once they walked there one of the enforcers Jean said "I'm gonna have to take your weapons just protocol."

Charles had allowed his weapons to be taken because although they could betray house his implants could still take them out even with the securitrons in his room and shut down.
Once there Gloria Van Graff the manager said "Ah a pleasure to see you."

There both van graff and Garrett discussed the situation.

Van Graff said "The kings somehow have gotten their hands on stealthboys and I have gotten reports that the Follower of the Apocolypse and Kings are planning to do a deal with the Kings buying Laser Rifles and not ours because I document our sales real well and none have been stolen so it must be an outside source so we have to figure out what it is."

Charles knew it had been them who had given them the weapons as part of the deal but didn't tell them as they would be mad.

Van Graff continued then said "Anyways that is the gist of it and we will try to disrupt that deal before it gets into works. And Charles I know your'e out of ammo so we'll give you 1 item free of charge."

With that Charles said"Plasma Rifle because I know you only sell energy weapons."
