Chapter 2:

She was brought back to reality when she felt a large hand curl around hers. She shot up and saw his eye lids fluttering. She waited and he grunted, shielding his eyes. Kurt took the hint and turned off the main lights. Rachel watched Finn intently as he opened his eyes. He blinked in confusion and she squeezed his hand bringing his attention to her.

He tried to speak but nothing came out. Rachel noticed and reached to a water cup beside her, bringing the straw to his chapped lips. After she replaced the cup, he licked his lips and looked at her. "Rachel? What are you doing here?"

Those six words were enough to break her heart. The tears welled in her eyes as she pulled her hands away from him as if she just got burned. Kurt started to stand seconds before Rachel, managing to stop her from bolting.

Finn looked at Kurt in concern. He wanted so badly to hold her but he couldn't.

"Answer the question, Rachel." Kurt said firmly, turning a teary Rachel back toward Finn.

"Your mom called Kurt about the accident. I figured it out and...and...I was so scared, Finn." Rachel sobbed.

"Come here, Rach." Finn said gently, reaching for her. "Kurt, can you go get my mom and the doctor?"

Kurt nodded and left as Rachel moved to his side. As soon as she was in reach, Finn grabbed her hand and pulled her closer. She stood next to his bed, looking down. He tugged on her hand again and she met his gaze.

"Sit down, please." He said gently. He released her hand to pat the bed beside his uninjured leg.

"I don't want to hurt you." Rachel replied softly.

"You won't. I promise." He tugged at her hand again and she sat next to his hip, barely touching him. He smiled at her softly. He adjusted the bed so he was sitting up more and reached to pull her into his arms.

She stopped him gently with a hand to his arm. She softly touched the bandages on his chest. He brought her fingers to his lips and kissed them.

"I'm okay." He murmured.

Rachel's tears fell as he pulled her to his chest, placing her head against a bare spot on his shoulder. He kissed her head softly as he rubbed her back.

Carole and his doctor entered the room as Finn was comforting Rachel. Carole's eyes filled with tears, seeing her son awake.

"Finn? Do you remember what happened?" The doctor asked bringing his attention to him while he continued to rub Rachel's back.

"Umm...I remember leaving McKinley after talking to Mr. Schue. I was heading home and was crossing an intersection and that's all I remember." Finn replied.

"You were T-boned by someone running a red light. You suffered a concussion, a broken leg and severe abdominal bruising." The doctor explained. "You're lucky to be alive, Mr. Hudson. Now that you're awake, I'll order a few more tests.

Finn nodded and the doctor left, bringing his attention back to Rachel as his mom hovered. He placed a gentle kiss to her temple as he slowly rocked her. "It's okay, Rach. I'm okay."

Kurt came back into the room as Rachel started calming down. He looked at Rachel and shifted his weight from foot to foot.

"What is it, Kurt?" Finn asked as Rachel sniffled. He looked at her as she pulled away and wiped her tears away.

"The producer for Funny Girl just called..." He started.

Rachel's tears started again and Finn was confused. He looked back up at Kurt. "Did she get the part?"

"She's had the part. We found out the day of your accident." Kurt explained. "They want to know when your coming back to New York for rehearsals."

Rachel covered her face. She really didn't want to deal with this when Finn just woke up.

"Rach?" Finn said gently. "You have to go back to New York. This is your dream role. You were so excited."

Rachel shook her head, rapidly. Finn grabbed her hands and gently pulled them from her face. Her face was red and blotchy from crying.

"Kurt and I will give you two a minute." Carole spoke and Finn nodded at her.

"Rach? Talk to me." Finn begged.

"Kurt told me you'd be devastated. He begged me not to follow him here." Rachel said quietly.

"You obviously did. I wanted you to fulfil your dreams not worry about me." Finn replied.

"Your such an idiot sometimes. I hated you for putting me on that train...but only because you couldn't see that you not being there, wasn't part of my dream. I needed you and you didn't see that instead you sent me to the big city alone." Rachel explained. "I had to follow him here to make sure my biggest dream was okay. I don't want the role without you."

"But playing Fanny and being on Broadway is your life's dream." Finn stammered. "I don't mean anything. I'm not important."

Rachel started crying again. "You're important to me, Finn. Your everything to me. You hold my whole world."

Finn pulled her down into his arms again and kissed her temple. "I'm so sorry, Rach. I'm so sorry I didn't see how much you needed me. But I can't just leave now."

"I know." She said sadly as she pulled away. Her eyes suddenly lit up and she locked eyes with him. "But I can."

"What! Rachel, no. You need to go finish what you started." Finn protested.

"What about what we started?" Rachel started to stand but Finn grabbed her wrist.

"Rachel. We are endgame, I told you that. But I won't have you resent me for not achieving your dream. I love you too much." Finn explained.

"What if I lose you before we're able to come home?" Rachel's voice cracked.

"Your not going to lose me, Rach. I don't lead a dangerous life." Finn replied softly as he stroked her wrist his his thumb.

"In case you missed it, Finn, you were in a car accident. Thank God, you're still alive but I can't...I don't even want to think about how I would have felt. The doctor said it himself, you're lucky to be alive..."

She trailed off as Finn kissed her, stopping her rambling. He pulled away and she bit her bottom lip. "You were scared."

"Of course I was scared, we still have to have our happy ending." Rachel explained looking into his eyes. "Your my soul mate and I thought I had lost you."

Finn pulled her back into his arms and kissed her head. "I'll support you, whatever you decide. I just want you to be happy, Rach."

"I'm my happiest when I'm with you. We don't need to decide right now." Rachel said pulling away.

"I should have never let your dads talk me out of going with you." Finn said stroking her cheek with his thumb.

"What? Why would they do that? How could you listen to them?" Rachel asked.

"They told me I would only hold you back from your dreams. And I started to believe it, unfortunately." Finn explained.

"I should have known they would try something like that." Rachel said getting up and pacing the room. "They never understood the connection we had to each other and I was a complete wreck when Kurt found me."

Rachel sat back down in the chair she was sitting in when he woke up. He reached for her hand and squeezed it gently. "What are you going to tell the producers?"

"I don't know...that I need more time here. You just woke up and I don't want to leave already." Rachel said the tears welling up again.

"Hey, no more tears. We'll figure everything out, okay?" Finn replied as the doctor and a nurse came in.

"Sorry to interrupt but we need to take Mr. Hudson for some more x-rays to see how his leg is healing." The doctor explained.

Finn nodded and looked at Rachel. "Why don't you go get something to eat while I'm gone? I'm sure you haven't eaten since you heard the news."

"Okay. I'll be here waiting when you get back." Rachel responded starting to stand.

"I wouldn't expect anything less, Rach." Finn smiled.

Rachel leaned down without really thinking about it and placed a gentle kiss on his lips. "You be good for the doctors."

"Yes mom." He grinned revealing the dimple she loved so much.
