AUTHORS NOTE!

I am not going to give myself deadlines or word count limits. I found out I suck at following my own guidelines. I started writing this chapter and immediately realized that I was not only going to write 2-3k words like I said I would. So, like I said, no more limiting myself on word count and time to post. So don't DM me asking when I will put out another chapter. I promise I will not abandon this fic. It just probably won't be finished quickly. I still expect to have this story be 200k or more words before I am done. So at least you can count on that.

One last thing.

Thank you to all of you that are supporting this story and are patient with me on my updates as well as giving me positive critic in both reviews and DM's. It really means a lot. Truly. I try my best to take advice about my writing and put it into practice, but while my imagination is full speed ahead. My mind is like 'WhaT iS ThIs PunCTuaTioN AnD GraMmAr YoU sPeAk oF?!' I would like to also believe that my writing prowess has increased since my last update. (I write during my breaks and lunch at work.) I love you guys. Please, enjoy!

On with the story!

Chapter 3 – We Must construct additional pylons…

The Pentagon – Washington D.C., United States

It had taken several weeks to set up, but they had finally managed to get the planned countries to agree to a meeting away from the rest of the world's leaders. It was only with the multitude of promises that the U.S. was not going to waste their time that they agreed to it at all. It didn't matter how long it took. Only that they accepted in the end.

Now they just had to convince the others of the biggest threat to their existence.

-THE FIFTH RACE-

"I do apologize on behalf of the president for any security measures you needed to deal with, but as I'm sure you understand, even though we invited you here, doesn't mean we can have the second most secure building in the United States have people of other countries just walk around. Even if they are allies." Major Paul Davis said as he escorted the large group of nearly 40 foreign dignitaries from both the political and military sides of their countries. Those from said militaries gave a murmur of agreement as the politicians rolled their eyes in exasperation.

"Major Davis. Can you tell us what exactly we are here for? Your president made it seem quite urgent for those of us here to be in attendance." Called the British Prime Minister.

The major shook his head slightly even as he eyed down a couple of staff who were attempting to eavesdrop on the conversation, who then went on with their business without further prompting. "I'm sorry, sir. I am under orders not to discuss the matter in any detail until we are within the conference room. I can promise you this, though. I personally helped set this meeting up and we will answer any questions we can when we get started. For now, however, please hold all questions until then."

Most of the foreigners rose a brow at the evasion of the question, but resigned themselves to waiting, for now.

As the group came upon a set of double doors he stopped to turn and face the group. "Ladies and gentlemen. When we pass through these doors, any recording device will cease to function. Things such as recorders and phones will need to be placed in the boxes right inside that are assigned to your country. Both for the simplicity of everyone knowing whose items belong to who as well as making it clear to you that we will not be tampering with them in any way while you are here. The boxes themselves are where every one of you can see them in clear view for your peace of mind. These boxes will not be removed from the room, and we will not touch them after we close the boxes." He spoke. "All items will be able to be retrieved by you when you leave. You have our word." He finished.

He was given some hesitant nods before he opened the doors and let them in before shutting the doors behind him and locking them from the inside.

The dignitaries all put their items away and made their way to the assigned seating set up in a semi-circle with a screen towards the front. "I ask that you do not open the files on your tables just yet until we get to that point. First. Our president wishes to speak with you." The major said as he moved to the side where another table was set up with several people in military garb. President Clinton rose from his chair among the semi-circle and made his way to the center of the room. He looked each of the foreigners in the eyes before he closed his and gave a slight huff of a chuckle. "I. first, want to thank you all for being here. On behalf of myself and those of my fellow countrymen we really do appreciate it. I am sure you all have many questions to ask, and we will do our best to answer them in time, but the first question is obvious, isn't it? He asked. "Your first question is 'why are we here?', right?" He received nods and affirmations all around. "Well, once again, I thank you for being patient with me about this meeting and my evasions over the phone over the subject matter. The answer to that question is both simple yet complicated in many ways." Clinton spoke.

"All I ask is a bit more patience and an open mind going forward in this debrief." All the foreign military members rose a brow once again at the wording chosen. "Major Davis. Please, start us off."

The major walked to the center of the floor with a remote in his hand and took a deep breath. "Ladies and gentlemen. To start off. The United States has been running a secret project out of Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado for several months now that we call, the Stargate Program. You may be wondering as to what the name of the project means. We are here to tell you that the name of the project is exactly what it is."

This gained the confused focus of the room's occupants. The Major turned and brought up and image to the screen of a large object being lifted from sand.

"In 1928. A team of archaeologists unearthed a large ring from underneath several large cover stones among the Giza plateau in Egypt. When discovered, it was then secretly smuggled out of the country to the U.S. where a few tests were run on it before it sat in storage for nearly twenty years." He pauses there to change the image. "Then, in 1945, testing resumed on the object where they found that the material it was made of was not native to Earth." Here is where the incredulous and irritated looks begin as President Clinton stands up slowly and all eyes turn to him.

"Please, friends. I would not have asked you all here if it were not important. As I said. Please keep an open mind." he asked before sitting back down. His tone is even and friendly, but many of the politicians heard the silent plead for what it was.

The Major took another deep breath as he restarted.

"After months of testing and experiments. The teams working on the object got it to work…" Here a few scoffs were heard until the screen changed to the same video the President had watched all those weeks ago. They watched in disbelief as the ring was spun by hand over and over until it suddenly came alive the vortex of water looking energy. They watched as the man in diving gear went through the glowing object before it shut off with him nowhere in sight.

"Impossible…" A Russian general whispered. Though everyone heard him due to the silence in the room.

The screen once again changed to surveillance footage of a cylindrical room with the ring inside of it. "After repeated attempts to get the ring working again and failing. The project was halted, and the ring was placed back into storage in one of our decommissioned nuclear silos. However, in 1994, the project was reopened. Doctor Daniel Jackson, an archaeologist and linguist we recruited, managed to translate the cover stones and figure out how the gate worked." Here Daniel raises his hand and waves as the many foreigners looked at him. "As doctor Jackson translated the cover stones that was when we learned that the ring was called a 'Stargate'. He would then, within a few more days, go on to discover that the stargate works off a set of coordinates determined by the different constellations of our galaxy and the gate would then be turned on for the third time."

Here they watched as the stargate was turned on and a small squad of soldiers was assembled alongside a machine on wheels. "A small team was put together to go through the gate and assess what was on the other side. A probe we sent through had determined that they would breathe just fine with only a small increase in gravity on that planet than on Earth." This got wide eyes from every foreign leader in the room.

The Chinese President stood from his chair abruptly. "Do you mean to tell us that the United States has been sending their people to other planets?!"

"Please, Mr. President. Allow me to continue and some of your questions will be answered and I'm sure that you will have more by the time I am finished. This is one of the reasons we asked you to keep an open mind, sir." Davis pleaded. Trying to keep everyone calm.

There was a round of murmuring and grunts as the Chinese president sat back down with an unhappy look. "Very well."

"Thank you, sir. Now as I was saying. The team put together was to be sent through and determine possible threats and if there were…set off a nuclear bomb to prevent any threat from coming to Earth through the gate by hopefully destroying it." Even more eyes join with the others as they widen. "When the team arrived, they discovered that they were in a pyramid in the middle of a desert. We learn later that the planet's name is Abydos and that it is a desert planet. After a while they came upon a large, primitive, wooden city that was occupied with humans." The major raised a hand to stop the interruption he knew was coming. "Wait, please. I will be answering that obvious question as well."

"Eventually, after some of the team were given shelter from a sand storm for the night. The team made their way back to their base camp. There they found that the rest of the team was missing and that a ship had landed on the pyramid. After making hostile contact, a few of the team had been killed and the rest captured. The team leader, Colonel Jack O'Neill and Dr. Jackson, were brought to their leader who went by the name, Ra, as in the Egyptian deity. They then learned that Ra was a parasitic species that took possession of hosts forcibly both in body and mind. Ra also explained that most of our deities and legends are due to interaction in one way or another with those outside of our world. However, Ra's people were the ones who came and took millions of humans from our planet and transplanted them to other planets throughout the galaxy due to their species believing our bodies are superior hosts to most."

He paused there to allow them to absorb the information he had given and to let them deal with their shock. There was murmuring from the audience as he waited patiently for them to quiet down.

"To make this part a bit shorter. After the team managed to make an escape and set the nuke off on Ra's ship in orbit of Abydos as he was leaving. The team then returned home with only Dr. Jackson staying on Abydos afterwards with instructions to bury the gate so it couldn't be used to get to Earth again." At this, many had turned to look at Daniel who shrank a bit at the large amount of attention.

Major Davis cleared his throat and continued. "The surviving members returned to Earth and were given the option to retire or continue service on the condition that they never speak of their mission to anyone. As it is for any black ops operation which your militaries would understand." A round of nods came with those words.

"We believed that due to the gate being buried and Dr. Jackson living his life on Abydos that we had no reason to worry about the gate and so the program was shut down again. However…" More raised brows went up. "-We were wrong. Very wrong…" This had the audience sitting forward as the Major took a drink of water. "Several months ago, we had a few guards posted in the room containing the gate when it started to activate it again. After the gate stabilized, several people wearing similar, but more protective armor came through the gate. They killed the male guards and abducted the female guard, Senior Airman Carol Weterings, before leaving through the gate again." This caused whispers of alarm through the crowd as they looked at each other and the surveillance footage of the encounter.

"This encounter caused the program to be reactivated and all former team members who still lived to be recalled, including the team's leader, Colonel Jack O'Neill. The reactivated program was then given a new unofficial branch of Stargate Command under the command of Major General Goerge Hammond. Two teams were then formed to go through the gate to Abydos to find out how these hostile aliens came through a gate that was supposed to be buried. These teams were given the designations: SG-1 and SG-2. Fast forward and we then find out that the gate doesn't just go between Earth and Abydos, but to thousands of moons and planets throughout the galaxy." He finished.

Louder grumbling and scoffs were heard as the major took a drink from the glass of water next to him. He watched as many of the foreign military officers gave him and the rest of the U.S. delegation wary looks as they whispered to each other. It was here that the major cleared his throat and gathered the attention of his audience once again.

"Fast forwarding again. The Abydos gate room was attacked by the same group of people who came to Earth with a few KIA on both sides. Doctor Jackson's wife and brother-in-law were taken before the hostiles left through the gate. Luckily, one of the Abydonians guarding the gate room stayed alive long enough to give us the gate address to the planet they came from. Both SG teams, with Doctor Jackson, then made their way through the gate again to a planet named Chulak which we quickly learned is considered one of the Goa'uld's biggest fortress worlds." He looked into each of his audience members' eyes. "Yes. A fortress world. Not just a fortress on a world, but the world itself. It is one of the first places that the Goa'uld created the Jaffa."

The Major took a deep breath. "To speed this up a bit more. SG-1 proceeded to the nearest facility after encountering a small group of jaffa priests who escorted them believing they were more of their gods. SG-2 Stayed behind to secure the gate for extraction for Airman Weterings and the doctors family." They were quickly captured and placed into a large cell with dozens of other people. All of whom came from different planets." Another round of shock went out across the foreign delegation. "The team then found out that the people in the room were those who were chosen to become potential hosts for Goa'uld. A woman for the system lord Apophis's mate…who, unfortunately, Doctor Jackson's wife, Sha're, became the host of. His son, Klorel, chose Skaara. Doctor Jackson's brother-in-law." Nearly everyone in the room gave the man a sympathetic look as Jack gave his shoulder a squeeze while he stared at nothing in front of him.

"After several Goa'uld had chosen those, they wanted to take as hosts. Apophis then ordered those not chosen to be executed. At this point, Apophis's now former first prime, Teal'c, then helped rescue everyone trapped in the room, including SG-1. He then helped not only the SG teams, but also the refugees extract through the gate back to Earth. We then gave medical treatment to those that were injured and sent the refugees back to their planets through the gate. After a very cooperative interrogation Teal'c was then offered a place on SG-1 which now consists of the four of them." He said as he gestured toward them.

He took a deep breath once more. 'Here comes the moment of truth. Please, don't mess this up.'

"Since the mission to Chulak. We have expanded Stargate Command to include nine SG teams total so far as well as Area-51 for research and development. However, the last mission SG-1 went on caused us to halt all gate activity altogether aside from the planet they went to. This is where I will now turn the floor over to Colonel O'Neill and his team." He then made his way to the table of the U.S. delegates and took a seat next to the general as the team made their way to the center of the room and stood with relaxed postures.

Jack looked at each of those they invited in the eyes before he sighed loudly.

"I'll be honest people. I'm not much of a public speaker so you'll have to forgive me if I offend some of you without meaning to. Our most recent mission was to the planet we designated as P3X-774, or Gaia as it's called by the locals. Our mission was to capture a creature that had the ability to go invisible and bring it back to be studied before being released again so that we could possibly recreate its effect to help our teams with both exploration and stealth operations when deployed against the Goa'uld." He watched as many of the foreigners nearly began to shout as he hurried to cut them off. "During our mission we came across of the creatures and were about to tranquilize it before a bolt of energy flew by it and scared it off. My team then realized that our priority target, Apophis, had come to the planet for the same thing. So, we switched up the mission and decided to take him and his small squad of guards out before going back to the original mission." He flicked his eyes to the rest of his team as he prepared himself for his next words.

"We set an ambush for Apophis and his jaffa and it went well for about five seconds." It was here that the military members of the audience leaned in. "Of the 4 jaffa along-side Apophis, we only managed two kills and a possible KIA. The last one then engaged Teal'c after he tossed the Goa'uld a staff weapon, which are energy weapons." Those same military personnel dropped their jaws in shock and Jack chuckled darkly. "If you think that's crazy just wait. I'm getting to the good part. After taking out my first target I immediately switched to Apophis himself and took a shot. It was blocked by an energy shield." Numerous gasps rang out as some of them recoiled in their shock while others just stared at the colonel. "The first of my team to die was myself." Everyone started from those words as they looked at him like he was nuts. "Crazy, I know, believe me. The next was Daniel here and the last was Major Carter. Teal'c's was prepared to die before we were removed from the field." This got most brows raised. "We woke up in a home made of wood and other basic materials. Our wounds, which were fatal, had been healed and we were revived. We were then invited to eat with the family who's home we were in."

Jack smiled with fondness as he remembered the family that started all of this. "They didn't speak at first, but I could tell that they knew our language and that they were not human despite being very near likeness to us. The first time they spoke they did so in an extremely ancient form of Latin that they said their long gone allies once spoke. Anyways, we finally managed to get them to admit that they were testing us and that they already knew the English language." Another round of gasps and murmurs. "We spoke to them for a while and found out that they had been around for a very long time. Daniel?" He gestured to his best friend who cleared his throat. "T-they told us that their people have been among the stars for over 4 million years." One of the delegates ended up nearly passing out from that as the British Prime Minister held up a hand.

"Please! Please…give us a moment to absorb some of this…" He pleaded as he sank back into his chair. It was rather comfortable he noted with gratitude.

President Clinton gave a sigh himself as he laced his hands together on the table. "Believe me, my friends. I was in complete denial when I was told about all of this. I thought this was some kind of elaborate joke, but I assure you it is not. So far, we have ten of our own as killed in action. This is very real. But like the colonel said earlier. He hasn't even gotten to the best part yet, which is also the reason for us to stop gate travel to anyway except that planet." He said with a shake of his head.

Jack started up again from there. "After more conversation and admittedly on my part, a bit of attitude. They seemed to once again be judging and testing us without speaking. It was like the feeling of having a lot of eyes on you, but you have no idea where those eyes are. Anyways, after speaking to them on the state of the galaxy as is. They escorted us back to the stargate and my team began to go back here to Earth. However, before I could go through, they stopped me." They all leaned in a bit more. "The woman who spoke to me, Lya, told me and I quote 'We were once part of a great alliance of races. We the Nox and our friends, the Asgard, the Furlings and those that you will learn of as the Ancients; or as we called them, the Alterans. The Alterans were the oldest of us. You are to us now, as we were to them then. We had gathered, at first, at a great meeting place on a world the Alterans called Heliopolis. It was there that our species learned of each other. We were the most advanced species in our galaxies as the Furlings at the time were intergalactic. For nearly five million of your Earth years, we lived and thrived together. Now there are only two of us left.'" He recited with a gentle smile. One could hear a pen drop from how silent it was in the room now.

Jack gave a small chuckle. "Right before they sent me through the gate after my team, they gave me a white crystal about the size of my palm and told me that it held what we went to their planet for. They gave us information on cloaking technology…with a promise of future trade." He finished. He then took a step back as his president once more came to the floor among all the shocked gasps and widened eyes.

Clinton gave a wave of his hands. "That is why I limited gate travel to only Gaia for now. The possibility of these trade agreements going through is too great for us to not make them a priority." He said to the resounding acknowledgement of his peers. "I am going to have the Colonel and his team give you a rundown on the Goa'uld's combat capability before I speak further."

Sam took a step forward while she used the same remote that Major Davis had and pulled up a galactic map on the screen for all to see. She then stepped over to the screen with a laser pointer. "To start everyone off easy. This is where we are currently." She began as she had a blue dot appear on the map. "This is Earth. This is the planet, Abydos." She said as, again, a dot appeared on the map near the blue one. This one is green in color. "And this is Gaia." Once again, a green dot appeared. This time it appeared nearly a quarter of the galactic map away from Earth. "The green dots are those we consider allies, while yellow…" This time several yellow dots appeared over the map in different areas. "Yellow means we consider them neutral." Now a couple of purple dots appeared. One right next to Gaia. "Purple is for trade partners. Our current trade partners are, of course, the Nox. Who we just told you about with the info crystal. The other trade partner is the, Shavadai, a Mongolian like nomadic people who trade with us some medicinal herbs for some crop seeds." It was here that she sighed while dipping her head a bit before she looked at them with an entirely serious expression. It was a far cry from the facial expressions she had been wearing for the whole conference up to this point.

"This…this is the Goa'uld's territory."

Her audience's jaws dropped as the map was then covered with a red translucent color, though opaque enough to know exactly where the borders of their territory were. The map itself had been practically swallowed up by the color as nearly the entire galaxy became red.

"We don't have exact data concerning their territorial boundaries, especially those that split between the numerous factions within it. Unfortunately. Until we get some real, hard, intelligence on their territory. All we can do is guess from what Teal'c knows. We do know that there are pockets of the galaxy that they do not mess with. Which is either good or bad for us. We also know that they fight each other just as much, if not more so, than an outside enemy. So, in terms of tactics. I believe we have time to build up forces and equipment necessary for us to at the very least give them one hell of a bloody nose before we are either enslaved or exterminated." She paused here as the Japanese general stood up from the crowd.

"Do you mean to say that we have no chance of victory against this…Goa'uld?"

She shook her head. "No, sir. That estimate is if they were to have several of them group up against us at once. I find that completely unlikely though, as I said earlier. They fight among themselves as well. Due to that, they are unwilling to provide too many resources for a combined effort as this would leave them vulnerable to another one of them invading their territory. This is apparently a common occurrence among their species." This seemed to calm the people down a bit as the general that had stood then gave a slight bow of the head in apology, which she did her best to return, before sitting back down.

She looked over her audience with an apologetic face. "I'm sorry for that. I didn't mean to make things sound worse than they are. While things are bad. They are also not as bad as they could be."

That earned her the attention of the entire foreign military presence in the room. "As far as their combat capability. They are really…basic…in their tactics. They wear medieval, Egyptian, style armor and their main infantry tactic is extremely like the old U.S.S.R." This caused the Russian delegation to raise a brow with a small frown. She saw their looks and gave a slight shake of her head. "This isn't me trying to insult you. The comparison is that they typically just throw bodies at a problem until it's taken care of. They don't seem to care at all for the mounds of bodies they have the next wave climb over. They just continue until they either start running out of men or until they win. Nothing more. Nothing less." In turn, this earned her a few understanding looks while a couple still had small frowns. Though whether that was out of displeasure about the comparison or for the situation itself, she didn't know. She sighed in her head as she continued.

"We know that they have no armored or artillery support. They don't use tanks or howitzers or any equivalent of the two. They have a heavy turret that is stationary and is typically used to guard important locations, but other than that, they have limited air support. In fact, if this war was only to be fought on the ground or air. We would likely have lost nearly everything, but by the end, we would have won. We have determined that one of our standard soldiers is equivalent to nearly ten of theirs. And since we do have armored and artillery support. I don't see us have too many difficulties on the ground unless they start getting smart about it." That cheered them up quite a bit. "The only real places they beat us are in the size of their forces, the amount of territory they hold and their ability to field spaceships."

Clicking her remote again changed the screen to show a vessel that the audience didn't recognize. "This is a Ha'tak-class mothership. It is a little over seven hundred meters long, nearly seven hundred wide and a little over three hundred in height. It has dozens of cannons that fire super-heated plasma wrapped up in a magnetic field which disperses on contact with a target and causes 'splash' damage. As far as we know, they use these weapons for long range, short range and point defense duties. Along with the cannons is the fighter complement it has. Each Ha'tak can have several wings of fighters they call, 'Death Gliders'. These are single manned craft that are capable of both space and atmospheric flight. They also have a few wings of bomber/transports called, Alkesh, that are hard hitting, but with extremely low maneuverability and speed. Should these ships be used in an invasion. Each Ha'tak will have nearly two thousand troops in them which will either be ferried to the ground by their Alkesh or by landing the mothership on the planet."

She takes a dink as her audience murmurs between themselves for a moment.

"The good news is that they only have a couple of ship types that we are aware of at this point. The first is the Ha'tak class and the other is the ship we blew up over Abydos, which we found out was a pleasure yacht. We know of no other ship types they might have. They have limited weaponry with nearly every jaffa having the same equipment, regardless of faction. They utilize a staff that is essentially a small-scale version of their ship cannons. It is horribly inaccurate both in concept and practice as it was developed as a weapon of fear, rather than war. Some also carry their version of a sidearm which will stun with one shot, kill with two and disintegrate the target with three. Most carry a combat knife that doubles as a ceremonial dagger. Lastly, they use a small sphere that functions as a flashbang or stun grenade. It typically knocks out the people in range of it but does have the potential to kill. They don't use it in open areas as they rarely use it at all. Normally only using it indoors or inside of ships." This information made her audience happy.

An enemy that doesn't take war very seriously. An enemy that isn't very creative. An enemy with hardly any support for their infantry?

They'd take that over literally anything else.

Seeing the mood being lifted she then stepped back for Jack to step in.

"We found out quickly that nine-millimeter ammunition only tickles their armor unless you hit vulnerable areas. We phased out the MP5 and went with the M4 for better armor penetration and better modulation in combat. We had a test run of them on Gaia in the ambush Major Davis told you about. They worked perfectly when we came home. I recommended we keep them. However…" He sighed heavily. "Our flak vests with armored plates just don't cut it out there with them slinging plasma all over the place. It just goes straight through our vests like wet tissue."

That certainly got them worried.

"I am also sure that everyone here is aware of the construction in Alaska?" he asked knowingly.

The Russian President stood with a glare. "You admit that you are currently constructing a massive military fortification practically on our borders?!"

"Yes, sir."

With that, the Chinese President stood alongside his Russian counterpart. "You would build such a massive military complex right across our waters?!"

"Yes, sir."

"And you thought we would just ignore such an aggressive act?! We demand the immediate halt of construction for this installation!" The Russian general raged.

It was here that President Clinton inserted himself back into the conversation.

"Would you all like a tour of the facility?"

Nearly everyone's eyes snapped to his in shock. He nodded his head.

"Do you not find it odd that we would invite you here to tell you about an inevitable threat to the entire planet and then tell you about the fortress we are building?"

The Emperor of Japan, who had stayed silent up to this point then spoke up in his heavily accented English. "I do, in fact, find it interesting that you would do such a thing even knowing the reactions of your peers in this room. I would like to know just what you expect from this meeting." He finished softly. He could already give a good guess as to the purpose already, but he would hear it from his American counterpart himself.

Clinton gave him a nod that was returned before he looked to each of his fellow leaders in the room. "What I am asking of you all is a total joint effort with regards to the stargate and the safety of our planet. I ask that we all share the economic, resource and military load between all of us. Before you start yelling at me about it…" He held up a hand to prevent the interruption he knew was coming. "We have shared all the information about the Goa'uld as a threat to us all. We know that this is out of nowhere as well, but you also need to remember that we have only been actively using the stargate for a little less than six months. To answer an accusation before any of you make it, no, we did not intend to keep all technology to ourselves forever. During the time we have been operating the stargate, yes, we have made a great enemy, but I would argue that we have made more friends as well. The Nox as our friends is the first to be technologically superior to not only ourselves, but the Goa'uld. This is the first time we have honestly thought we could fight in this war, much less, win."

He let out a deep sigh. "We are looking at the potential to catapulting our people and technology hundreds of years into the future. We are looking at the first time where everyone in this room can agree that if the Goa'uld get to Earth…well, to be frank…We'd be fucked. We have no ships capable of operating independently in space, much less being capable of space combat. We have no capability to travel anywhere outside of the gate network, which means we are screwed if they show up in our orbit. Their ships have energy shielding as well so I doubt that any nuclear options we have currently would work against them. But let's say nuclear missiles do work. How many missiles are we going to have to use before the shields on one of their ships go down and in the taking down of their shields what would happen if, say, we had to use 10 or maybe even 20 to do that? What would the consequences for our planet be? We might knock out their shields, but that won't mean anything if none of us are around to see it."

Clinton could see that he was making some progress with them. He just hoped he could get them completely on board.

"I ordered the construction of the new SGC base in Alaska to not only get the stargate away from our major population centers, but to allow for the room for everyone here to be a part of it and eventually. To help bring, at the very least, the rest of NATO into the fold. Some of you might have an idea as to what I am aiming for and some of those might be correct. Let me tell you about my main goal for this meeting for all of us." This got them to pay even more attention.

"Due to the way the Nox has spoken. We have concluded that, while they are happy to be our friend, they will not be total allies until they can see that they are able to speak to a united Earth." This caused their eyes to widen as their jaws dropped. "My hope is for all of us to be the steppingstone for the rest of the world to see that even with the wide range of differences in ideals and politics here in this room. We can set that aside for the good of the planet." Once again, he raised a hand for them to wait as angered murmurs began to rise from them. "I'm not saying the decision needs to be made now, everyone. I'm not even saying that it needs to be within our time as leaders of our people.
