FOURTY THREE - NEW YORK

I'll be uploading a lot more for the next week or so, so keep checking for updates :) x

Rose disembarked the train as it pulled in to New York. She left the station and took in her surroundings 'it's busier than I remember' she thought to herself. She had come up with a plan in her head whilst on the train; find somewhere to stay for a couple of nights, whilst also looking for a job and somewhere to live. She wondered round the city aimlessly looking for a bed and breakfast. Upon finding one she went inside. The receptionist confirmed they had room and took payment from Rose before she headed up to her room- it was no where near as nice as the room she'd stayed in whilst in Santa Monica with Jack and the children but it would do the job. "Right" she said to herself "a job…" she put her coat on and left to find work.

"So, have you ever worked in a grocery store before?" The man in the store asked Rose as she asked him if he had any work "no sir, but I'm a quick learner" "a months trial. If you prove to me that your capable of the job then we will keep you, if not, we wont" he said firmly "I understand" Rose nodded "thank you sir" she smiled and held out her hand to which he shook "I'll see you tomorrow at 8am" "yes, thank you". She sighed with relief as she left the store, grateful that it didn't take her long to find employment.

She made it back to the hotel and had some tea in the dining room before heading back to her room. She sighed to herself as she got changed for bed. She knew Jack and the children would be travelling home today and knew Teddy would have asked questions about where she was by now, she wondered what Jack would have told him but didn't want to think about his reaction "stop it" she sighed and said to herself. She laid down, hoping to fall asleep, but it was no use, there was no way she was going to fall asleep when she was as guilt ridden as she was.

After being awake most of the night, she made it to the grocery the following morning to start her first shift. Her mind kept trailing off as she thought about Jack and the children whilst one of the employees was training her, she did her best to hide it, but not much of the information was going in.

Her shift finished around 8pm. Her jaw hurt from fake smiling all day. She made it back to the hotel and was too tired to even think about eating tea. It was the first time in days she felt like she could actually sleep. She climbed in to bed and fell asleep almost immediately.

The weeks went on and Rose would do the same thing everyday; wake up, work 12 hours, go home, cry over Jack and the children, go to sleep, repeat. Teddy would probably have figured out that Rose wasn't coming back by now and she wondered what explanation Jack had given him, hell, she hadn't even given Jack an explanation, just a note saying she was sorry. Eliza would have realised Rose wasn't there anymore, but would she be bothered, or would she be happy enough with Jack and Teddy? These thoughts would go round Rose's head multiple times a day and each time she'd find herself feeling angry, regretful and guilty. She wanted to blame her Mother for putting the awful thoughts in her head that made her leave, but really, it was Rose's choice. Sure, Ruth had filled her head with poison, but surely Rose knew better than to listen to her Mother, at the end of the day, Ruth didn't force her to leave.
