By the way this chapter is partly based off of the scene in Practice Private where Addison tells Naomi about the baby.
Addison walked through the halls of the hospital on her way to the maternity ward. She was happy because she was going to see her godchild for the first time through a sonogram. Callie was 20 weeks when she scheduled for the ultrasound.
Addison reached the room, seeing Mark, Callie and Arizona in the room waiting. She opened the door and entered the sonogram room. "Hey love" She says as she went over to Callie and gave her a hug.
"Hey Addi" Callie says as she hugged the older woman back.
Addison releases her and gave Mark a hug "Hey Mark"
"Hey Addison, after this we gotta talk" Mark says as she looked at him very confused. She looked at Callie who shrugged her shoulders with a smirk with her face.
Addison looked over at Arizona, smiled and gave her a nod "Hey, Arizona. How are you?"
"I'm doing well" Arizona responded to Addison.
"So are we going to find the gender of the baby?" Addison asked the three parents.
"Yes. Yeah. Yes" All three of them said at once even though they already knew.
"Great, because I'm already looking at clothes for the baby" Addison says to the three doctors.
"Did you already go shopping Montgomery?" Mark asked knowing Addison already possibly did.
"No…." Addison said in a small voice as Callie smiled at her.
"Adrianne you're lying" Mark said as Addison looked at him eyes wide in shock.
"Wow, he really went to your middle name" Callie says as the redhead was still in shock. Arizona looked at the three interacting and felt slightly out of place.
Just then Lucy walked into the room, she was surprised to see another person in the room. "Wow, you're quite popular" Lucy snarked to Callie. "I'm Lucy fields, and you are?" Lucy says as she holds out a hand.
" Montgomery, I was the previous obgyn at this hospital." Lucy looked starstruck as Addison shaked her hand.
"I love your work and you're one of my biggest inspirations" Lucy says as Addison smiles through the compliment.
"Thank you" Addison says "Not to sound rude can we do the sonogram"
"Oh yeah of course. This baby is lucky, it has a lot of doctors around" Lucy says as setted up the sonogram for the group.
Suddenly a heartbeat fills the room and the four doctors smile "Do you wanna know the gender ?"
"Yes please" Addison said as she looked at Mark with anticipation.
Lucy nodded her hair and said "it's a girl" Addison beamed with happiness and took out her phone. "Imma print a couple of pictures of the sonogram" Lucy pressed out a couple of buttons for the pictures to print and handed a copy of each to each doctor. Once they were done, Addison hugged Callie telling her she'll see her tonight and Mark followed after Addison to talk to her.
"So you wanted to talk girl dad?" Addison nudging Mark shoulder with hers.
"Let's go outside, it's nice out" Mark led the way as Addison followed him. The two didn't speak much due to Mark wanting to get his words correct and in order.
Mark sat down on a bench outside and patted a spot next to him for Addison to seat. "Is everything okay Mark?" Addison asked as she sat down.
"I've been going back and forth with this decision. I know you won't let me regret this. With everything we've been through, somehow we are still there for each other." Mark starts to say. "I know, we had our chance to become parents and yeah you did what was best. A part of me wishes you discussed it with me but again it was all your decision. I was still being Mark. Don't worry I'm not holding it against you. Even though I do bring it up in arguments with Callie and Arizona that I want to do this right by this baby." Mark explained to Addison "I feel like this is my third chance to get it right. To be there from the very beginning. To see that baby be born. To smell that baby smell, hold her, say Salud when she sneezes, change dirty diapers. To hear her say dad and to teach her how a man should properly teach her even though it took me years. To take her to ballet or even teach her softball or anything. With Callie as a mom going to throw a punch without breaking her hand. With Arizona, she's going to smile through the bad days. With you as her godmom, she'll know how to keep it classy yet will be very headstrong and determined if she has to take a man spot in the workplace" Mark says as he looked at Addison who now had tears in eyes.
"Are you asking me to be her godmom?" Addison asked through the tears.
Mark looked at Addison and said "yeah, yeah I am. Callie wanted to ask you in a special way but I wanted to get this off chest first. So when Callie asks you act surprised" Addison nodded her head and hugged her friend.
"Of course, I will be her godmom. I'm happy you trust me." Addison says as she hugs him tighter.
"Even though I felt like I have to prove to you that I'm going to be a great father. I don't have too because I'm more confident now. Thinking about it, old Mark couldn't handle a baby but this Mark. Oh he's ready" Mark says as he smirks to Addison as she releases him from the hug. "I'm happy at how far we come"
"I am as well friend" Addison says as they smile at each other "Now I will bring all the clothes that I brought to yours or Callie house." She says as stands up from the bench.
Mark shakes his head and smiles "Oh I already knew you did shopping"
"Of course Tia Addison already got her, her first pair of designer" Addison says as she heads back into the building with Mark following behind.
"What if she was a boy?" Mark asked which caused Addison to shake her head.
"Even though I didn't know what our baby was. I had a feeling it would've been a girl." Addison states "You my friend only create girls." Addison tells Mark and nudges his shoulder laughing.
Watching them from the overhead catwalk was Arizona and Callie "Do you think he asked her?" Arizona asked Callie.
"Yeah he did. Which means I gotta get on my A game and ask Addison" Callie says as she walks away from Arizona with ideas bouncing in her head of how she would ask Addison.
The line "You only create girls my friend" was a way to show that Addison is comfortable talking bout the pregnancy and joking with Mark that he's a girl dad. If you watched Private Practice there's a scene where Addison tells Naomi she had a feeling that they would've been a girl so where it also comes from. There's going to be another one-shoot based off that scene but i have to tweak some thing first.
