Everything was better now. She was better now. Rose understood that Jacob's indirect rejection was not about her. It was not that Rose wasn't enough. Jacob's heart had an owner, and it would be really foolish of her to get between Jacob's heart desires.
Rose could bet anything that he already moved on, it was no use to continue pining over him. The ring bell interrupted her thoughts and her forgotten studies. Rosalie was not expecting anyone, she hadn't even ordered her dinner yet. Her biology homework was almost done, so she went to open the door without even looking through the peephole.
Rosalie gasped when she opened the door. Jacob was standing there with a colorful bouquet of flowers. Roses of all shades of pink adored the bouquet. Baby pink, fucsia, hot pink, salmon… It was perfect.
Jacob swallowed and scratched his jaw "Can I come in?"
Rose was so astonished that the only thing she could do was blink and let him in.
Jacob smiled at her and laughed "I brought this for you. Figured you liked roses, Rose."
Seeing him on her doorstep with flowers was like something out of her dreams but she couldn't –wouldn't– forget the weeks he avoided contact. It had been horrible, so she only smiled tightly "I'll look for a vase."
Once the vase with the roses was on the coffee table, they went to sit on the couch. The roses were beautiful. It was the first time a boy ever bought her flowers.
"Rose," Jacob started "I'm sorry it took me this long."
"Why?" Rose fidgeted with her hands in her lap. They were both facing the TV so at least she didn't have to look him in the eye. "Why did it take you so long?"
"I fucked up," He ran a hand through his hair and sighed "Like I always do."
Perhaps Rose was being too hard on him, Billy did say that Jacob tended to mess things up. Self-sabotage, as they called it. "Give me another chance." Jacob pleaded, now looking at her. His eyes were full of desperation.
"Jacob–"
"I swear, Rosalie. I won't fuck it up again." He tried to reach for her hand, but she snatched her hand away from his hold and rose from the couch.
"Rosalie–" He followed her to the kitchen. "Let me take you to dinner."
Her mind was telling her to say no, but her heart…
What if tomorrow Jacob decided he was done with her? Would he just forget about her like he did only a few weeks ago?
Her heart couldn't take it.
"Or we can go to watch a movie–"
"Thank you for the flowers, Jacob." Rose interrupted going to open the door "I think it is time for you to go."
"There's this Tom Cruise movie–"
"Jacob." She shook her head.
He smiled and reached for her hand in the doorknob, she let him. He closed the door, she let him. "Say yes, Rose." Jacob played with her hands. His hand looked gigantic in hers. "I think we could have a lot of fun together."
"Fun?" She snatched her hand back "Fun, Jacob? Like all of the girls you fuck?"
So she had been reading everything wrong again, he wanted to have fun. How convenient. He sighed and ran his hand through his hair. "That's not it–."
"So what? Do you want to have sex a couple of times a week? That's it?" She gasped in frustration "You're just like him!"
Jacob warned her with a finger "Don't you dare compare me to him!"
"He used me for sex too, you know. It was never a real relationship. Only when I thought you were different–"
"Emmett and I are NOT the same–"
"I'm sorry, Jacob. But I can't go there again. And I know you–" She hesitated, visibly flinching, "I know you are in love with Bella."
He shook his head and tried to reach for her hands again. "I wouldn't be here if I was."
"You've loved her for a long time, haven't you?"
"You know she's with Edward–"
"I'm just your second option–"
"No! Just listen–" Jacob cupped her face with his warm hands. His hands took over her whole face. Christ, he was big. "It's time to let her go. I can't keep losing opportunities and keep wondering the what ifs. The only thing I know is that I like you. And that I'd like to see where this goes."
"I like you too," Rose whispered at last. No point in denying it.
Jacob smiled sweetly and looked at her lips "Then let me take you to dinner." He went for the kill and tried to kiss her. Rose laughed and rolled her eyes just as their lips were about to touch,
"It's going to take a lot more than that."
He chuckled and shook his head "Huh? More than this?"
"Maybe a thousand yellow daffodils, and I'd considered it." It was stupid and childish, yet, he smiled sweetly. He stopped caressing her face and she missed his contact immediately,
"I'm nothing if not persistent."
She followed him to the door and to his bike. Rose waited on the porch till he started the engine "I'm no quitter, Rose."
"We'll see."
Once he was out of sight, she got back to the house smiling the whole time. Rose didn't want to get her hopes up just yet, but he seemed that he was all in. He felt genuine.
The flowers were beautiful, she stared at the pink bouquet for a long time with a stupid smile plastered on her face. A smirk formed on her face. Well, if he really wanted to be her, he was going to have to work for it. For all she knew he was going to change his mind and she could not do another heartbreak. That thought made the easy smile on her face disappear.

The next day when she got home from school Rose found another bouquet of flowers –this time in a vase– waiting at her doorstep. This time the bouquet was white.
The note said,
White roses to symbolize the purity of my intentions.
Sincerely yours,
Jacob.
She grinned at the sweet and slightly corny note.
Rose had moved the pink bouquet to her room, so she put the white roses on the coffee table and stared at them. She fought the urge to call him and thank him. Thank god she didn't have his number.
The flowers kept coming every day. On Tuesday, a lavender bouquet of tulips was waiting for her.
Tulips to symbolize the deepness of my affection.
Yours,
Jacob.
On Wednesday a flowerpot of yellow orchids.
Orchids are beautiful and elegant. I couldn't help but think of you.
Yours,
Jacob.
Rose floated through the week, she couldn't wait to see him, but she couldn't give in so easily, could she?
Jessica and the girls asked her about her dreamy attitude. All lunch and in all of classes she had been daydreaming.
"What's up with you?" Asked Lauren at lunch. Rose had been particularly thinking about how and where Jacob got all of those flowers. They were summer flowers. Flowers needed a lot of sun to survive.
"Huh?"
"Oh my, Rose!"
"Sorry" She blushed, "I was just thinking about my essay for history, I still need to finish it."
Jessica rolled her eyes, "Right."
Thursday a basket of periwinkle Dahlias was waiting on her doorstep.
Dahlias represent my commitment to you; to us.
Yours,
Jacob.
P.S If you turn this note around you can find my number, you may need it soon.
Her mom was beside herself with all of the flowers around the house. "Your boyfriend is trying to win you back, huh?"
"I guess" She mumbled while she smelled her dahlias.
"He didn't like that other girl, didn't he?"
"He wants to take me out but I–" She joined her mom on the couch "I don't want to get hurt again, you know."

Rose always looked forward to Friday. She really enjoyed her silent weekends. Her plans consisted of watching movies, ordering takeout, and even some reading… And of course the occasional visit of Seth.
To her surprise today there were no bouquets of flowers waiting for her. Huh.
Rose unlocked her door and gasped at the sight before her. Her keys fell through her fingers.
She could not even recognize her home. Every surface and corner of her small home was filled with daffodils, the color of sunshine. Christ, she couldn't even take a step inside. With a hand in her mouth hiding her gasp she tried tiptoeing around the flowers.
There were flowerpots covering the coffee table, around the TV, the kitchen table, the couch… Everywhere she looked,
A thousand yellow daffodils.
With shaky legs, she ran to her room to look for that damn note. She hid all of Jacob's notes in her underwear drawer. She found the one she was looking for and with her cell phone in hand, she dialed it.
When the cell phone rang she went to sit on the couch and looked around in amazement, she couldn't believe that this was real.
The inside of her house looked like a flower shop.
"What do you say now?" Jacob immediately picked up the line.
Rose giggled looking, once again, around her house, cheeks red. She whispered into the phone "Okay."
