More fluff. I'm sure you're not surprised. Pre series, very little background. Yet another random idea.
Disclaimer: I do not own Star Wars.
Shin was no stranger to cold temperatures, her homeplanet often got quite cold, but this planet was the coldest place she had ever been. It was so cold, she couldn't even remember why she and Baylan had gone there. The weather turned foul almost as soon as they landed the ship, and they found themselves stranded immediately. Shin was sitting in the cockpit, shivering as she looked out of the viewport. Not that there was much to look at, what had been a heavy snow only a few minutes ago had turned into a complete whiteout. Shin stood up, taking a moment to stretch, then retreated to the very small quarters on the ship. Baylan was sitting on the bottom bunk, warming his hands over an emergency heat generator. He glanced up at her, then patted the spot next to him. Shin took the unspoken invitation and sat down. It was still cold in the room, but the heat generator did emanate a pleasant amount of warmth, though not quite enough to shake the chill that had settled within her. She leaned forward, trying to soak in the heat. Her cloak did little to keep her back warm. "Master," she said, "How long do you think this storm will last?"
"At least through the night," Baylan replied, "Hopefully not any longer."
Shin hummed in response, she was beginning to feel drowsy, but she knew falling asleep during cold weather like this was a very bad idea. She slipped out of her boots and held her feet close to the heater. After several minutes, she pulled her knees up to her chest and rested her chin on them. It was hard to fight the drowsiness, every time Shin blinked her eyes stayed closed a few minutes longer. She couldn't remember the last time she felt so relaxed...it was nice. She was beginning to lose the battle. Baylan wrapped an arm around her shoulders, and she found herself leaning against him. Sleep claimed her almost instantly.
Baylan grabbed a spare blanket to wrap around her, "Sleep well, my dear apprentice," he said, "I won't let the cold claim you." The Jedi Order would not have approved of his attachment to Shin, but he had been raising her since she was eight, to not become attached was simply impossible. It didn't matter though, the Order was gone, and he could treat and train his apprentice as he saw fit. After all... she was his apprentice. And though the blizzard raged, in the quiet of the bunk room, there was peace.
A/N: Yeah, I know, the ending was lousy. But this was actually kind of hard to write. It started off as a way-too-complicated story about Shin getting sick and Baylan looking after her, and then it turned into this short piece of meaningless fluff. I'll do my best to write something a bit better soon. If you're interested in mkre stories about these two that aren't just a bunch of random fluff ideas, then I suggest you go to my profile and scroll to the bottom where I have a list of in-progress and upcoming stories. Yes, that's a bit of self-advertising, but you should look if you're interested. I apologize for any grammar mistakes. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed.
