Chapter 28

Previously Bella came to grips with her feelings and gives in to Alice's and Hermione's attempts to cheer her up.

After the hiker was found on the trail, there hadn't been a vampire sighting in some time. The red headed vampire must have given up, the days had been quiet. Chief Swan had been working on a missing persons case. It was running him ragged, he kept coming up with dead ends. The hiker found in the woods was the first clue, the animal attacks the second, the third was disappearances. Something was going on under his nose and he decided to get to the bottom of it; however, he kept coming up empty.

News of the disappearances in Seattle came to forks, Carlisle had put his feelers out and he believed that it was vampire related. Bella had yet to have any vision's of the outcome. There were sitting ducks until one of the wolves came with news or one of Carlisle's contacts came back with news.

Alice attempted to look for answers by meditating and using her power to try and detect the Voltari's movement, she made no headway. Deciding to let the matter rest, Alice decided that they needed to work on wedding plans if Bella was going to be one of them before fall. and while Bella was a little reluctant to start making plans, she finally put her foot down when faced with fighting with Alice over arrangements.

No matter how Bella protested to some of Alice's plans, Alice would try and change her mind. Eventually Bella broke down and told Alice that if she was going to push for her way, she had some demands. First the fairy light was limited to the ceiling of the tent and the tabletops. The light would give it a pleasant glow in the twilight reception they would have. And candlelight, Bella wanted the reception tables to have candles, otherwise Alice could have her way.

Of course, Alice agreed as this was the vision she had seen, and she was happy to finally help it come to completion. She kept going on about how beautiful it would be with different colored tablecloths, when Bella chimed in "no colors," Bella said, shaking her head, "just white tablecloths, red napkins, rose petals littering the tables with candles and fairy lights."

Alice smiled, "It's going to be beautiful, Bella."

It had been two weeks since the last sighting of Victoria, and things had been quiet, though no less worrying. As the disappearances seemed to be growing in numbers by the week, there still hadn't been any news.

Hermione and Jacob were out on a hike, looking for more enchanted meadows that might give them another place to hide away from prying eyes. Upon their travels they came across two vampires they had never seen before. Jacob pushed Hermione behind him before he phased into a wolf and howling for back up. As Jacob paused to allow Hermione to jump on his back, the vampires advanced towards him. In the panic, they left the picnic basket and their belongings behind, including Hermione's purse and cellphone.

She held on like a jockey riding a horse, she bent her knees hugging him between her thighs, she took two large handfuls of hair and leaned forward, "Go!" She said, urging him on with a glint in her eyes. I wish I had some fire, a kind of fire that would only hurt the target. Shaking off her wistful thinking, she concentrated on the vampires.

After what seemed like a lifetime, more wolves showed up. They joined the chase, the two vampires they had been chasing made a drastic turn towards the border to the Quillets land, luckily, Emmet and Rosalie had been out for a hunt at the same time and were able to catch a glimpse and seemingly chase the vampires they had been chasing as they ran out of their territory.

They turned around grouping in a circle, Hermione just sat where she was, she didn't want to distract the wolves. Alice had circled back around, in awe at how natural Hermione looked sitting amongst the wolves on the back of her soul mate. "I have come to tell you," she said, her smile fading as she spoke, "the two vampires you were chasing are newborn vampires."

The group gulped and looked at each other, "I think the question we need to be asking is why? Why here? Why now? Has this anything to do with the disappearances? Do you think this has anything to do with not seeing Victoria in a while?"

"I wish I could answer those questions," Alice said sadly as she turned to leave, "I will talk to Carlisle, maybe he will know something."

"Ok," Hermione said with a smile, "call me later."

"Of course," Alice said with a smile.

The group quickly cleared out; the wolves looked to Hermione to see if she was in one piece. She smiled and told them she was fine before they too dispersed and went home. Jacob and Hermione returned to where they left their picnic basket. The moment being ruined, Hermione simply gathered their things and returned to the reservation. Their search for magical meadows would have to wait.

It had been a few days since Hermione and Jacob ran into the vampire. The tribe had several meetings. Jacob grew wrestles, he didn't know what to do. Hermione told him that he needed to work together with the Cullen's. "Do you think it is any coincidence, that a Bella uniting with the vampires and her blood cousin unite with the wolf tribe?"

"You do make a valid point," Jacob said, stopping his pacing to stand in front of her. she was looking at him pleadingly: "I can mention it to the tribal leaders and see if they agree. I agree with you that we need to work with the Cullen's on this one."

"Well then," Hermione said, standing on her tip toes, "here is a reward for your efforts. and as much as I would love to continue, I need to be getting home."

"I know." he winked before grabbing his keys, "I will walk you to your car," he said following her out, when they got outside, he remembered her car wasn't there. "I could take you home," he said with a big smile.

"I'd have it no other way," she said with a big smile as she climbed into the passenger of Jacobs' truck.

When they arrived at Hermione's home, the door was open. Hermione knocked on the door before entering, calling for Bella loud enough for everyone to hear. Jacob followed her through the front door and into the living room. Everything seemed to be intact. Hermione slowly entered the kitchen, Jacob at her back. There was a half-eaten salad on the counter next to the sink. There was a note from Charlie, he would be home late again.

Together she and Jacob climbed the stairs just behind Hermione, incase someone was lurking somewhere. When who should pop out into the hall in full KILL mode. To their surprise, it was only Bella and Edward. Hermione sighed in relief and pulled Jacob into her room before closing the door behind her.

She pulled Jacob to the bed, and they sat down, she pulled out a letter she had received from Luna.
"So, Luna is coming but she also invited some friends," Hermione said looking down at her hands. "She said that they would stay somewhere in the tent if there was somewhere they could camp."

"They could possibly camp on the reservation," Jacob said, "I can talk to the council and to Sam and see what they say."

"That would be great, I really don't want them to be in Seattle right now." Hermione said, putting her head on his shoulder.

"Are you going to meet with them all right away?" he asked as he took her hand and put it in his.

"No," Hermione said, lifting her head to look him in the eyes. "I'm only going to meet with Luna, she is going to stay with us for a few days. When I feel comfortable, I will meet with the others. I am hoping that meeting her will be of some help. She said she also had a couple surprises too. She is bringing some of my things over. The ones I can't remember."

"Don't worry, everything will be alright," he said pulling her into a hug, he stroked her hair, "If it makes you feel any better, I can keep an eye on things from the outside."

"Thank you, Jacob," Hemione said kissing him on the neck, where her head was resting. Hermione left the room to change and get ready to bed, leaving the door open to the bedroom. Jacob laid down next to Hermione and held her until she fell asleep. When he tried to get up, she hugged him tighter and begged him not to go. She was so warm and comfortable. It was early in the morning before he was able to escape Hermione's grip. Charlie was sitting downstairs at the table, when two coffee cups were sitting on the table. "Want a cup son."

"Please," Jacob said, sitting down, "nothing happened, she just wanted to be held."

"I know," Charlie said when pouring Jacob a cup of coffee, "which is why I am not going to say anything. Just see that it remains that way, until you're ready."

"We will," Jacob said with a smile as he drank his coffee.

"You better get going," Charlie said, his voice changing to laughter, "I called Billy to let him know you were here, in a Hermione death grip sleep hug. He laughed and told you to get home as soon as you were free."

"Right," Jacob said, his cheeks slightly pink. He ducked out the back door and went around the front to get his truck. Sending Hermione, a text that he would be over later, he left to go home. After sleeping most of the night with his soul mate, he felt ready to conquer the world. Or perhaps just the elders.

Alice's vision

"Do you love me?" Victoria whispered in his ear with a small lick of her tongue on the inside of his ear.

"Yes, yes," he said quickly, "you are my queen."

She pushed him down onto his knees, she gently touched his throat, "would you die for me?"

The man looked at her horrified as she gripped his windpipe with fingers and ripped it from his chest. This was just the beginning of the tragedy that she would rain down on the one who took her mate. He took her mate; she would take everyone he loved. She would destroy everything he held dear; not to mention killing anyone who got in her way.

Alice came out the trance harder than normal and stumbled a little, she looked up at jasper and said, "we really need the help of the Voltari for this one, I think. Victoria has gone insane. "

Alice knew that she had to tell this information to Carlisle, he would know what to do. Maybe he had friends that could help. she knocked on the door and entered when the voice on the other side of the door said to enter the room. she opened the door and found Carlisle sitting with some people she had never met. "I'm sorry, now is not a good time, I will come and talk to you later."

"No Alice, you can stay," Charlie said, pointing to the chair, "we were just talking about Hermione, how they think they can help her with her memory problem."

"Really!?" Alice jumped up and suddenly went into a trance, Charlie gave her a pen and some paper. She was drawing now as her vision reached its climax, it was the enchanted meadow and a picture of Luna handing Hermione her wand.

"What is going on?" Alice asked loudly, looking from the sketch to the actions in the photograph as well as the vision.

"Hermione is a witch, Alice," Alice gasped, and nodded for him to continue, "a magical person, her memories were taken from her, and her powers were silenced. She was sent here to recover, we started giving up hope. what the girl in the photo is handing her is her wand. It's the wand that Hermione used to cast spells with. we recovered it from where she lost it. it has physical memories it may be able to help her." Carlisle said trying to ease her to calm down.

"Wait," Alice said, putting her finger to hear head, "let me understand, magic users, the ones who hunt us."

"With all due respect we have a treaty with Voltari that we will not harm members of their magical race unless the vampires attempt to harm, inflict pain, or turn unwillingly or attempt to turn a witch or wizard without consent."

"That makes sense," Alice said with a nod of her head. "So, will what happen when she gets her memories back.?"

"We are not sure," the man said, "however, we are hopeful she will have her magic back and maybe come home to visit. It's quicker the way we travel."

"Interesting, can you tell me more?" she asked genuinely interested in learning about new cultures.

"Certainly," he said, "but first let us talk about the reason for our visit so we can see if we can help you with your problem."

Voltari in Volterra~ Aro's thoughts past and present. he is caught reminiscing by Marcus who senses that Aro is hiding something.

Aro was beyond displeased, he had sent jane and the others out to see what was going on, not to add to the chaos. However, he saw a good ending to this fiasco with his wayward child and decided that he would let the scenario play out and do nothing. In the end, the Cullen's would work with the local tribe. Aro had no interest in wolves, Alice had tried to keep him from seeing, but he saw.

Hermione, and Bella both being in Forks, were no coincidence. He knew who Hermione Granger was. He had heard about her and her friends while they were on the run. The wizard, who called himself a dark lord, came and told him if he joined him, they could live in harmony. Aro turned him down and told him if he would pretend that he hadn't come to ask. "I have no intention of ruining a long fought out peace bargon with the Wizarding world on most continents. I will not let one man who thinks he is a king when he is merely a lord try. You will not live long enough to take my throne should you try, Wizard."

He had been remembering when he noticed she was standing in his hall with her cousin and her mate. "What bothers you?" Marcus asked, sitting down next to him on the bench is the back garden.

"I am bothered by many things, Marcus," Aro admitted, "however I do not believe there is a fix without giving what we know away. Right now, the Cullen's think that we won't do anything about this, and we won't. We will let them handle it, I have seen it, they will win. There is no need for us to intercede at this point."

"I will send a message to Carlisle that he is to handle it how he sees fit, and we have only had good insights."

"Thank you," Aro said before returning to look deep into the shadows. Shadows that could only come with the setting of the sun and the rising of the moon. "I hope you push them to the limits; they will need the will to survive this storm."

Meanwhile, Alice, and Luna who had just arrived when a thought pushed into their thoughts, "I hope you are prepared, we will need sheer strength and will to win this fight."
