Eva looked between Loki and Steve. It confirmed for Steve that she hadn't heard anything that he had said. Loki looked at his best friend and new sister with a nervous expression, playing with the hem of his shirt.
"Wait," she said, "we're twins now?"
"Uh," Loki replied, licking his lips, "yeah. The ritual-"
Eva smiled at him. "I always wanted a brother. And I couldn't ask for a better one." Loki collapsed in a chair Bruce brought over to him, relief sweeping through him. "My little sister was the reason I lost my home, so-"
An irritated look flashed across the God's face. "Ugh, problem siblings. I understand."
Eva laughed. "Except, you're dating yours."
He joined her. "True, but I've always loved him, so it works out."
Bruce said, "I know it's an upsetting thing and I hate to interrupt this happy moment, but I need to take some blood to analyze to make sure-"
"I swear, Bruce!" Eva stated in anger as she turned to him with glowing eyes. "If I even see you with a needle, I will-"
He held up his hands. "Do you have another way to collect blood for me to test?"
Loki took her hand as he said in a soothing voice, "It's okay, Eva." He looked at the doctor. "I can prick her finger with my dagger. Will that suffice?"
Bruce shrugged. "It's not as sanitary, but I can work with it. I will need a sample from you too, Loki."
Loki got nervous again. "Right. Um-"
Bruce could see the thought of needles bothered the raven-haired god as much as it did Eva. "If you need to, use the same method on yourself."
Loki relaxed and gave a nod. "That is appreciated, thank you."
"Not a problem. Just tell me when you're ready." Bruce went to get some viles before he remembered something. "Be sure to clean the blade before using it on Eva, then clean it again when you go to use it on yourself. And wipe the finger with a sanitary wipe. Just because we aren't using the clinical method doesn't mean I want to risk infection."
Loki nodded and set to work. It took longer than expected to get the vial full enough for the test, but Eva didn't get triggered and Loki didn't have to watch the memories play out in his head.
