When Kassandra got to Minos' Faith she saw Hermes confronting a man. She stayed behind the wall and watched the meeting hidden from view. They were arguing. The man then provoked Hermes with something about Persephone using Hermes as a puppet . With rage he punched the man in the stomach and stormed off spotting her in the process. She was confused . What made him so angry?
"Ahh you came" Hermes approached her hands on hips catching Kassandra in her compromising position.
"Yes I did as promised. What was that?" she asked, pointing confused at what she just saw.
"Ah, that was Adonis, one of the human rebels who tried to convince me to let him leave. He insulted Persephone which is why I punched him" he explained, still sounding annoyed.
This answered Kassandra's questions and she mostly wasn't confused. Except for why was Hermes so protective over Persephone? It was almost like he had feelings for her if she didn't know any better. Before she could think further. Hermes spoke, snapping her out of her thoughts.
"I could do with a walk, and with the way you're frowning I'm guessing you could do with one too?" he questioned looking back at her.
Kassandra looked back at him. Her thoughts were muddled; she really could do with a walk to clear her head out and perhaps while they were at it she could find out why Hermes was so into Persephone. She gladly accepted his invitation .
"I'm happy to go for a walk, you're right I do need one right now" she sighed before she got on her horse and followed Hermes .
They toured around Minos' Faith, first stopping at Hermes' workshop where he was making some other weapons, keys and spears. His workshop was a simple table with a stool and roof close to a beautiful waterfall. Then onto some ruins with some beautiful flowers which according to Hermes were some buildings Persephone had built many years ago and was once beautiful before they got destroyed.
When she asked how it got destroyed, Hermes had dodged her question. He seemed to not want to delve into Persephone too much for some reason sticking to talk about the scenery and the area in general, so Kassandra just let him talk all the while observing Hermes from behind and the beautiful scenery around them.
The ride was really doing wonders for her. All the stress from infiltrating Persephone's forts and trying to find the staff keys without being spotted by the kolossi had disappeared. Right now in this moment it was just Hermes in front of her and the beautiful scenery. She just wanted this moment of paradise to last forever.
It was at this moment that she realised she was falling hard for Hermes even though he liked Persephone she couldn't help get attracted to him. His voice, his features , his kindness, mostly everything about him. All too soon the ride stopped outside a cave stopping her from her thoughts.
He dismounted from his horse and she did the same as well.
"In this cave, is one of the keepers' insights' and a piece of paper with everything about you and your Fate in there and another key" he said gesturing towards the cave.
Kassandra faced him. "Thank you Hermes, I really enjoyed that ride . Normally my guide back at home Barnabas is very useful when it comes to directions on my ship the Adrestia, however you've been a great help to me here guiding me and giving me a helping hand" she replied gratefully smiling at him.
Hermes smiled back. "Well I will leave you to your adventures then" he turned round and gave a wave before he disappeared.
Kassandra entered the cave curious to know what her "Fate" was on this piece of paper that Hermes had written for her.
Once she entered there was a treasure chest with the key along with the keepers' insight and a parchment of paper on the top. She grabbed the paper, inspecting carefully what was written there in some godly written Greek language. The paper read:
Keeper Kassandra,
Your Fate is to go around the world removing isu artefacts to prevent the human race from extinction. You will live for 2000 years until the year 2018 when you decide to give up the staff having been fed up of seeing too many people you love die over and over again. To the "Heir of Memories". You meet the Heir of Memories in Atlantis ,and hand over the staff to her . She will be the new keeper. You will travel to Egypt, England and meet many other assassins like you. You live a long and lonely life in the shadows protecting the human race and never get any credit for it. You will get out of Elysium with the help of Hermes.
The paper ended there. Kassandra stared at the paper in shock.
2000 years? She would live for 2000 years? So Pythagoras was right the staff did give people immortality. 2018? That was a long time away. She couldn't imagine living that long from 422 BC all the way to 2018. Without ageing a day and always staying the young woman she was. Impossible. What on earth had Hermes put on this staff?
She couldn't believe that she was chosen to be one of the immortal ones. But why her? There were lots of misthios out there. Was it because she was Pythogoras daughter? There were so many questions burning through her mind. Heir of memories? Who was this? Would she end up having another child this time a daughter? .
This was even more complicated than what the local pythia used to tell her. Travel the world? What was England anyway? Sure she knew Egypt as she told Darius to send her son there to safety after Natakas' death . Long and lonely life? So this was only just the beginning of her being alone and witnessing people die over and over again.
She couldn't believe that she could endure watching people die over 2000 years when it was hard enough already even as a mortal.
She put the paper in her pocket and headed out to find Hermes . She definitely needed answers and a lot of them after this.
So Kass finds out that she's now immortal and will carry the staff with her another 2000 years. What will Hermes say when she asks him? Find out in the next chapter.
