Be Your Own Hero
Chapter 2 - A Typical Day for Quirkless
Aldera Junior High School
Musutafu, Japan
July 19th, 2180
3:00 p.m.
"Class dismissed. Enjoy your summer, everyone!"
Today was the last day of the first term at Aldera Junior High School. After their homeroom teacher exited the class, the students occupied themselves. Some went to pack up their belongings and said their goodbyes to others. Others gathered in their usual group to stay and chat a bit. As they gathered in the classroom, excitement filled the air. They eagerly discussed their plans for the upcoming summer vacations. Each shared their own unique ideas and destinations. From beach trips to mountain hikes, the possibilities seemed endless, and everyone was eager to make the most of their time off.
Well, almost everyone except a single teen.
Sitting at his desk, Izuku Midoriya kept his head lowered, hoping to blend into the background and go unnoticed. Even now, Izuku tried to keep his short mop of fluffy and curly viridian-green hair out of sight. As he packed his bags quietly, his nervousness, depression, and fear were clear in the shade of green that his irises and hair shared. On each of his round, innocent cheeks were four diamond-shaped freckles, which framed his face that bore some bandages from leftover bruises.
After all, every day was a struggle for the Quirkless teen.
Izuku always got picked on by other students and teachers for being powerless. He was among the few drew the short end of the stick, the ones who lacked the natural gift. That fact killed him all the time because he aspired to be a hero. Because of his admiration towards heroism, it more or less painted a target on Izuku's back, getting bullied, ridiculed, and scorned at day in and day out. Today was just as bad as any other day, with him being pushed down, having his small things stolen, and being given more unnecessary homework assignments.
Izuku could handle the current situation, but it was a far cry from the first six months, which were nothing short of hellish.
While putting his things away, Izuku discreetly scans his surroundings. Fortunately, the teacher had called a certain blonde and his henchmen to perform some tasks for the school, leaving Izuku free from their meddling.
'All right, Bakugou and his friends are gone. Now's my chance!' With that thought in mind, Izuku rose from his seat and deftly exited the classroom before anyone could take notice. Over time, he became skilled at moving around unnoticed. Though it was painful at first, it proved to be quite useful overtime! With a bright smile on his face, Izuku walked away, feeling accomplished and proud of his achievement.
On his way downstairs to his shoe locker, Izuku caught the attention of a beautiful female student with light-cyan curly hair.
'So he gets away this time, huh?' With narrowed eyes, the girl thought. Gradually, a naughty smile spread across her face.'Well, I guess I should let "someone" know.'
"What the fuck?! Deku's not here!"
While she was amid planning her move, her attention diverted by a loud noise. A boy shouted, and her smile grew wider when she saw him. He had spiky blonde hair and glaring red eyes, and he was a familiar sight to her.
"Hey, Bakugou."
As he walked through the streets, Izuku felt a sense of relief wash over him as the last day of school came to a close. After all, this is the first time in a while he felt accomplished for his action. Izuku left his shithole school with no fuss and most of his belongings were intact too! The day had passed without incident, and he was grateful for the peaceful ending to his first term.
As he rounded the corner, Izuku caught sight of the train station in the distance. He was also relieved that he could now take one of his normal routes back home, which involved taking the train to his apartment.
As Izuku walked a few steps, a stranger wrapped an arm around his shoulder. He raised an eyebrow, confused by the gesture.
"Deku, I've been looking for you, pal."
Despite his confusion, Izuku quickly realized that the words he was hearing were not friendly, despite how they may have looked on paper. Suddenly, he felt a burning sensation in his right shoulder and became very uncomfortable. When he turned to see where the pain was coming from, he saw a familiar malicious grin on the face of someone he knew all too well. A spikey blonde haired shithead youth with a malicious red shade that reflected his fragile, explosive, egoistic pride and sneer.
He was Katsuki Bakugou, a former childhood friend and bully of Izuku, who is a villain in Izuku's eyes has aspirations of becoming a great hero in the future.
"K-K-Kacchan!" Deku stuttered nervously, as fucking as usual. What a fucking wimp.
"Gotta say, Deku, we're hurt that you left the classroom without saying goodbye to us," Fingers spoke. He was one of Bakugou's lackeys with the Quirk that can stretch his fingers to fucking freakish lengths.
THUNG!
As Katsuki stood there, a sudden jarring noise shattered the silence. The sound of metal colliding with metal was so loud that it felt like it was piercing through his fucking eardrums.
"Yeah, pal. We were hoping to have some 'quality time' with you one last time." Metal Fist, one of his other lackeys, bumped his knuckles against each other with a sneering grin. This guy has a decent Quirk he can able to reinforce his body by using his iron in the blood. Much better than Fingers, that's for sure.
"So, the usual, then?" Last, Silent, asked the obvious, stupid question. After all, it was his job to use his Quirk to make sure everything went smoothly. He had a Quirk that could nullify sounds in the area. Obviously, it lacked anything in terms of combat applications, but Katsuki begrudgingly admitted that it is useful in undercover work.
"Yeah, just make sure you do your job right, got it?" With a sneer on his face, Katsuki dragged the timid nerd by the scruff of his shirt, refusing to let him walk on his own.
"Yeah, yeah." As the rest of the lackeys followed him, Silent rolled his eyes in annoyance. He stayed behind, standing near the wall.
After Bakugou and the others had left the back of the alleyway with Deku, Silent raised one of his hands and formed his fingers to snap.
"Mute"
With a snap of his fingers and a brief glance, the student cast an invisible bluish aura that surrounded the alleyway. As the aura took hold, all sounds in the air vanished, creating a world of absolute silence. The bustling sounds of the major streets, from beeping cars to jets flying in the clear sky with few clouds, disappeared without a trace. This ability not only prevented any sound from within from leaving, but also blocked all outside sounds from entering. As long as he is conscious, he can maintain this Quirk. However, if he were to lose consciousness, the Quirk would no longer be effective.
"I think I'll pass some time by reading a manga." Silent took out his extra-large smartphone to read the latest pages of manga it had engrossed him in. With a flick of his thumb, he scrolled through the colorful panels, getting lost in the story.
While Silent was engrossed in his manga, he remained oblivious to the fact that someone had entered the entrance to the alleyway. The person moved slowly and steadily, making their way towards him.
"Man, I wish I could've got in on the action sometime." He muttered while flicking his thumb to scroll through the colorful panels, getting lost in the story. While he enjoyed the peace he created with his Quirk, he still wanted to get in some action to mock Deku with the others.
Unaware of the fact that he and his friends are about to experience some excitement of their own.
A painful excitement, as a certain hand reached out to Silent with a glowing glare.
