If The World was Ending
by sillykonpeito
Knuckles turned white at the grip of the steering wheel as traffic stood still. The dim light from the streetlamps and cars illuminated the tense features of the man behind the wheel. Red eyes darting between the cars in front of him and the phone that lay idly on the passenger seat. A hand runs through a mess of blonde hair and a sigh escaped his lips.
The deafening silence was interrupted by an earthquake alert.
He grabbed the phone with one hand to read the alert. He closed the message and, as if on auto pilot, his hands moved to open his contacts. The name of a certain brunette appeared as his thumbs hovered over the call button. A million thoughts crossed his mind.
The stoplight turns green.
With a defeated sigh, he closed his phone and tossed it back into the empty passenger seat and drove.
She felt the ground shake beneath her feet. After a few moments, it stopped. The brunette checked her phone for updates. The earthquake alert buzzed, followed by a call from her agency to ask her to assist in a small rescue.
She sighed and put the phone back on the counter.
She made her way upstairs to pack her things and her hero costume. As she mindlessly packed her things, her hands lingered on the two lack dots of her Hero Costume, reminding her of someone. She shook her head to clear out those thoughts and closed her bag.
She took one last glance at her apartment before locking it and heading out to the bitter coldness of the night.
It was just one night, after a Class Reunion. There was an electrifying attraction – that was probably there since High School.
They stumbled into the kitchen, emotions spoken through the movement of their hands and how their lips clashed with one another. Hands exploring each other, eyes filled with need to resolve the tension forming between their bodies. A night of drinking ended up in a night of passion that went ablaze but fizzled out and left nothing but ashes the next morning.
It wasn't supposed to happen that way and they both knew it. They both wanted something more – but they knew how much of a risk it was. Somehow, deep inside, there were unspoken feelings that were left to die out in the weeks that passed.
As if it never happened.
And things were never the same since.
Because some feelings never truly die if they were left unresolved.
Bakugo arrives in his apartment, after a long and tiring shift. He took a quick shower to freshen up and get ready for bed. In his head, he already knew where she was – probably out on another rescue mission as one of their agency's top rescue heroes.
He lay there in the bed, her name on his phone, never daring to push the button.
The rescue mission wasn't as bad as she thought it would be. Uraraka was able to finish up quickly and now sat in front of a desk piled with a bunch of paperwork. She will need to get this done if she wants to enjoy the rest of her night.
She looked at the desk two tables in front of her, empty, except for a few sheets of paperwork, where she would sometimes see an angry blonde trying not to throw the stack of papers into the bin out of frustration. She chuckled at the thought and looked out the window.
He sighed and closed the phone, placing it on his nightstand. He pressed his fingers on his temples, trying to erase those thoughts. The thoughts of her lips crashing into hers, the way her soft hands moved to survey his body, the way her chocolate brown eyes looked the day after and the awkward silence they shared.
She always wondered what would've happened if she didn't chicken out. She knew the risk was too great – but she loved the way his hands felt on hers. The way he made her melt like putty and the way he made her feel.
There was a spark, and they both felt it, but will probably never admit it.
And I know, you know, we know, you weren't down for forever and it's fine
I know, you know, we know, we weren't meant for each other and it's fine
But if the world was ending, you'd come over, right?
A/N: This was a brainfart fic while I was at work. I was listening to "If the World Was Ending" by JP Saxe and Julia Michaels and I wanted TO HURT. Plus, I just fininshed reading Benefits by megwritesfanfiction over at the other website so this was like, how I'd picture it if they never really worked out. My writing's a bit rusty but I hope you all like it.
