Chapter 1

Pregnant superhero Pam Hinkley picked up half a cow filled with sleeping herbs, flew over the dragon, and dropped it at its feet. The dragon-which looked like a cross between a dinosaur and a Komodo dragon in her world-smelled the meat and ravenously devoured it. It was about 40 feet long and 20 feet high at the head. It had two horns on its head about three feet apart and three feet long. Its skin was a gray-green, with bumps and knobs all over.

Sitting high on a hill, Pam waited for the dragon to fall asleep. It seemed to slow down a little, but it did not sleep. She flew down to the dragon and landed on its head between the horns. She grabbed the horns and attempted to twist the head of the dragon to break its neck. It tossed its head and flicked her away. Pam caught herself mid-air and said, "So you are a lot stronger than I thought."

Because she was pregnant, she did not want to fight the dragon physically. She flew over to a formation of boulders and picked one up. Holding it over her head, Pam flew back to the dragon and dropped it on the dragon's head. The dragon didn't like it and roared loudly. It looked up at Pam and tried to jump at her. She backed away. She went back and picked up an enormous boulder. She threw it at the dragon with as much strength as possible this time. It hit the dragon in the head again and dazed it. It got up, shaking its head, and roared even louder than the first time.

She muttered, "At this rate, it could take all night to kill the thing." Pam decided to do the job more efficiently, using the suit's energy beam. She floated about 20 feet above the dragon and pulled energy from the earth into the suit. Barry, her super suit, told her when the beam was fully charged. She released the beam through the chest emblem toward the dragon, and a ten-foot hole exploded in the dragon's torso. Blood and dragon pieces spewed everywhere, covering Pam in dragon guts and blood. The smell was putrid. This action, of course, killed the dragon. She flew back down the hill to where Merlin watched her extraordinary efforts and picked up the sword from the back of the cart. Merlin was in awe of what Pam had done with the energy beam, not knowing what it was.

He saw her covered in blood and exclaimed, "That was incredible," with his mouth hanging open.

Pam said, "I got the job done the quick and dirty way. Bring the cart up to the top of the hill."

When Merlin got to the top of the hill, he saw Pam hacking away with the sword—that he could barely move—at the neck of the dragon to remove its head as proof that it was dead. The dragon's bones were incredibly dense, and the sword was having difficulty getting through. Pam heated the blade with her hands until it was red hot and continued with the dragon head removal. This worked much better, and the head was soon severed from the body. After cutting the head off, she thrust the red-hot blade into a boulder to get it out of the way. She picked up the head by the horns, placed it with its forked tongue hanging out of the mouth in the back of the cart, and landed next to Merlin. The donkey brayed, not liking the dragon being so close, even if it was a dead dragon. Merlin was astonished that a pregnant woman could perform such a feat, even after seeing all the other amazing things she had done since he brought her to his cottage after she had appeared through a slit of light.

Pam told Merlin, "Please prepare a camp for the night by the lake. I am tired and need to sleep after using so much power to kill the dragon." Pam flew off to the lake to wash the dragon yuck off herself. Merlin made a clicking sound and prodded the donkey down the hill to the lake. He set up camp, started a fire, and laid out blankets for them to sleep on. He pulled out bread and cheese for a meal.

Merlin watched Pam rise out of the lake and float toward the camp. She was drenched, but the dragon mess was gone. His eyes followed Pam as she moved to the fire, her wet black hair sticking to her beautiful, perfect white cheeks. She stood beside the fire to dry the suit and her hair, passing her fingers through her long, glorious locks to expose them to the heat of the fire. She ate the bread and cheese, lay on the blanket, and thought about how she had gotten to this place before sleeping.

While they slept, it started to rain, and Barry, Pam's super suit, created a force field canopy over her and Merlin to keep them from getting wet. Merlin awoke hearing the rain but not feeling wet. He looked up and saw the shimmering force field blocking the rain from falling on them. He thought, 'Her magic is truly incredible. I wish I had magic like hers.''

Merlin didn't sleep well that night, still shocked by what he had seen Pam do and the power of the red super suit—as Pam called it. He realized that she could do or destroy anything she wanted. He lay there thinking back to when he saw her come through the light and all the wonderful things she had shown him since then.
