Witches weren't quite the profession one would despise. People flocked towards them because when humans felt the silence of God, witches could answer on behalf of Him. Of course, I am here to tell you that one could never be on the same level as the Creator Himself. But one can indeed pretend they are. That's when we begin to fall into division and dictatorship.

"Hinata," a man of great valor and honor, spoke to the young lady in dark navy hair. She was an obscure one, belonged to a clan of what many would say, the silver-eyed tribe. "Are you ready for this week's Winter Solstice?" That man was her father, Hiashi. And their clan was originally called Hyūga.

The 25-year-old lady we now know as Hinata nodded with conviction, showing her father that she had grown more responsible than she was ten years ago. "Yes," she would say, "I am."

What many did not know was the fact that witches were ordained to make sacrifices before granting wishes. Hinata, the firstborn and heir to the clan of the Hyūga sorcery, was required to bring her body to an altar set out as a sacrifice. She was required to lay on the altar, nude and to be immersed in the energy only the coldest moon could give. The further a witch can withhold the pain of the Earth's most deadly season, the better the new year's luck would bring. And the firstborn had to be the one to give their bodies away for this superstition.

Hinata could only silently thank whoever created her that it didn't require sexual conduct. For, you see, she had never been with a man before. She had visions of someone, though. And she would see him quite clearly whenever those visions would invade her. It would come in the middle of the day while she would go about her activities. It would come at night as she slept, and it would be felt physically throughout her body whenever he touched her. Black hair and black eyes that could turn red if so he wished. The aura he brought with him was too compelling for her not to be drawn into his presence.

But he was a dream. He wasn't real. Hinata would occasionally remind herself that, or else she'd go insane trying to find out where he would be. One day, she skimmed through scrolls that would transcend her into her dream… to see, hear, and feel him.

As days passed, she was finally confronted with the day of sacrifice, and Hinata walked toward the altar they had prepared. It was the day of truth, where her strength would bless the village. It was the night that they proclaimed holy because it would course-correct the new year, forgetting their sins, remembering to rejuvenate them with new powers of sorcery.

She lay on the cold stone table, the skin of her back coming in close contact with the crisp of winter. Was this fair? No, it wasn't. Was it necessary? Hinata couldn't bring herself to answer the question. She kept her legs tightly closed as if the warmth it brought could help her survive. Her arms held her body together, and her teeth chattering didn't slow down.

The worst part was she was required to spread her limbs wide open. She didn't have a choice. She had to do it. Once she let out a breath warm enough to cause friction in the air around her, she did what she had to do. Her hair was spread above her head, finding its way over the stone table. When she looked around, she was in the woods, where trees had lost their leaves due to the harsh weather. She saw the grey sky, letting what little sunray left shine through. And she began to notice snowflakes dropping from the endless abyss of the mundane. The cold was too much for her to bear.

Legend says she had to lay there long enough until a particular being appeared. That being needed to sustain itself by drinking the blood of a living sorceress. When Hinata tried to remember why they began obeying the superstition, she couldn't even recall the first witch to do what she did.

She was, indeed, the first. The only prey, it seemed.

Her lavender eyes had to close when a snowflake pierced them. And that was when she broke down. Tears began to fall off the sides of her face. Her whole body was determined to go through the pain of the cold. Why did she feel like she had done this multiple times when it was technically the first ritual they'd ever made for the Winter Solstice? That moment was too familiar for the Hyūga.

And then, sounds of rustling in the bushes could be heard. Her eyelids flew open to search for the source. She saw a black silhouette skim through the trees. Hinata felt her heart throbbing in her throat.

"J-Just, come out… now!" She would say.

But there was only silence.

More rustling throughout the bushes, and her head turned to her left. Her eyes scanned for the being she knew would devour her.

"P-Please, get this over with–" she said, the cold freezing her jaw. "I c-can't take this anymore."

Funny how desperation would promote one's desire for death. But Hinata wished she could live longer the moment she saw a man appear. He had black hair and black eyes. His skin was pale, contrasting his features. She became even more hopeful when it was the exact man she had seen in her dreams all this time. Maybe he came to rescue her from a hell she thought was paradise. And she was ready to freefall.

She found herself sitting up, her gaze never leaving his stern irises. He looked perplexed, hurt… His expression was as if representing agony with a hint of hope. She didn't find herself ashamed of her naked body, her pale skin mirroring his.

"I know you," she said, "I've seen you somewhere."

"Where?" was what he said as a response. Hinata realized how small she was compared to him, especially when he began to walk closer to her.

"I dreamed of you," She said, trying to recall his name. "...Master." She said, a name deeply rooted in her muscle memory.

A smirk was seen on his face.

"I've done this too many times, Hinata."

The Hyūga's eyes widened, shocked to hear him know her name.

"And I would do it a thousand times more," he said.

He was sitting right next to her, his fingers tracing her jawline down to her shoulder. He was as cold as ice. He was no different than winter. Was this the being she was supposed to give into? Because she wanted to.

"What is your name, Master?" She asked.

A frown was visible. "I thought you knew me."

"I do not. Please, enlighten me."

The man leaned in to give Hinata a gentle kiss, which was an element of surprise, especially when she found herself kissing him back. His temperature was completely immersed all around her. Oddly enough, she didn't shiver. She found comfort in the coldness he brought. His hand now tracing her chest, gently caressing her mounds. He would move it down to her torso, onto her legs, stopping right under her knee. He had a good grip… because suddenly, his other hand grabbed her other leg and positioned himself on top of Hinata. Her legs now surrounded his waist, and she could feel his crotch pressing onto her damp ones.

What was he doing? Why was he doing this? But it all felt too familiar.

She saw two specific teeth of his elongating, creating a sharp end when he opened his mouth. To Hinata, it might hurt to create that gesture, as if desperate for air. His eyes transformed from black to deep red, representing blood itself. Slowly, his hands moved up her back. One finally rested under her neck. She saw the pain in his eyes.

"I must do this so that I can see you again." He would say. It didn't take him long to dig his fangs onto the side of her neck, and she felt them pulsing through her veins.

The pain melted, and all she could feel was bliss.

It hurt, but she wanted more of him.

And the more she wanted him, she felt whisked away to death.

He never told her his name.

"Sasuke," a certain white-haired would call out. They called him Kakashi.

"Yes?"

"Will another war happen just for you to see her again?" Kakashi asked. If he knew anything about Sasuke, he'd tell you that he was a man of evil when it came to getting what he wanted. And all Sasuke wanted was to reunite with someone, a witch, who miraculously has a gift of reincarnation every 100 years.

"Of course."

"And what will it be this time?" Kakashi was a man who mentored Sasuke growing up, teaching the guy everything he had to know about the world. However, Sasuke's immortality was, in a way, a manifestation of the knowledge taught by Kakashi. And to reward the man, Sasuke helped the white-haired teacher live forever.

"Wars are always great to cause commotion and change the course of history," Sasuke said, knowing that Kakashi began to question his tactics. Not only did Sasuke turn Kakashi immortal, he also created a community of the same kind. Thinking that maybe he wouldn't have to finally kill the love of his life for her to reincarnate.

According to this vampiric being of a man we all know as Sasuke, the Persian War would start within a week… if his plan ran smoothly. I won't go into details about how this could happen. Otherwise, it would take millennia to describe the intelligence of this man. But all I could say was that he desperately wanted to give the gift of immortality to the love of his life. That was the only reason why he was capable of such things.

"Sasuke, maybe this time, if things don't work out, you should let the universe take its course. It is not worth innocent lives just to get her back."

"The world of sorcerers," Sasuke began, "I should never have focused too intensely on it. Every century requires more vampires to feed on the innocent just to get her to reincarnate. But I can't live without her, Kakashi. My only source of life is her blood, and I fucking have to kill her to survive another 100 years… I'm in an endless loop of surviving just to see her again. And just be with her. Like the first time."

Sasuke's living system would not be quenched by mere humans any longer. The only way for him to satisfy his hunger was to feed on the blood of the one who gives him life. But sorcery is cruel. It gives, but it takes twice more. I know this is too cruel, but it is the truth. Hinata cannot be reincarnated if she isn't sacrificed. She cannot even be fully processed into reincarnation if innocent lives weren't taken. The further we move forward to the present time, the more the darkness will ask from Sasuke.

It gives… but it takes twice more.

"She deserves to live, even if I die. So I'll make it right this time. I won't stop until it succeeds. But if God can hear me, the damned, I just want to be with her for a little while longer."

Kakashi couldn't bear seeing the desperation of this man. So he decided to leave Sasuke's study, giving space to the distressed. When Sasuke focused on reviewing his plans, he would close his eyes to the point of her birth. He will feel it. And he will watch her grow into becoming a graceful woman.

Memories of the previous century would return to him when he first met her; an ordinary witch, and he, a mere human. Two people in love and wanting to be together for eternity. Two people who would not have death parting them.

And so that was the reason for Sasuke's immortality. He and Hinata had entered a forbidden covenant that created an endless cycle. He would only be able to live using her blood. She would only be reincarnated through her death at the hands of her lover. And Sasuke will have to murder innocent humans to complete her process of reincarnation. The demand for these innocent lives increases the more he tries to bring her back.

For almost a thousand years, he would repeat the same things. He would come to her in her complete adult form, 18 years. He will pursue her, love her, and be with her. And within the process, her beginning to remember the man and the whole story of who she was would be too great for her to bear. That's when the strength of her memories of him would fall apart, and she would forget everything entirely.

And her amnesia will always occur when she's 25 years of age… the age of her atonement, where she would have to sacrifice herself on the Winter Solstice. Because that was the age when she made the covenant for their immortality; her, as the sacrifice. Society and the clan she was continuously born into believed it to be an essential religious practice. They had no fucking clue that it was for the two to be together all along.

Sasuke opened his eyes, his entire being feeling like it was bursting into an unnatural feeling of completion. He was the embodiment of death. And when Hinata was born, he could feel himself manifesting in the direction of her life. That's when his hunger began to stir.

"She's here."

More dreams of a dark-haired man. Hinata had turned 18 years old, and her visions of this man would not leave her. It gravitated through her sleep to her wake. When she was out in the field to meditate on her sorcery with eyes wide open, she could see visions of him.

They were too real. Too much to handle. She had to blink a few times because she began noticing him walking closer to her. With the soft green grass around them, a hill presented a man of great charm. Charisma radiated from him, something she had always told her parents she'd want in a husband. After more blinks, he was unexpectedly closer to her being.

How did he do that?

He was now standing right in front of her. Hinata's eyes focused on his features. He was precisely the one she's been seeing. When nothing made sense, her muscle memory reminded her of his origins… A man of great honor, a long, long, long time ago. And he was her master.

It needed to be more straightforward for Hinata. But knowing magic, she was convinced she had previously lived a life somewhere with him. Too familiar with his being, Hinata would bow and say, "Master."

The gentle touch of his fingers around her arm made her straighten herself up, her eyes focusing back on the male.

"You remember?" he asked.

Hinata nodded. "I do."

A smile could be seen on the man's face. "That's a relief. And a start. Come," he said, releasing his grip around her arm. "Let's talk. We have a lot to catch up on."

With each day spent with the man, Hinata's memories recovered. Slowly but surely, she could understand the bond that they had between them. Hinata knew there was something more, though. Maybe it wasn't wise to speed up the process of remembering… Maybe it was good to leave things mysterious. But all she could understand was that he had waited for her for centuries upon centuries. And she knew she was made for him.

The way he made love to her. A beautiful demonstration of unconditional desire and passion. She had never been this valued her whole life. Yeah, she could and would want to live forever for this.

Hinata was only missing one piece of the story; the fact that it's almost been a thousand years. And the moment her memories come to fruition, she will fall apart quickly.

And so, she did lose them all. She found herself on a cold stone table in the harshest of winter, naked. Odd… she found it to be too familiar. With her arms and legs spread, her breasts taking in the cool, her torso withholding whatever warmth was left within her, the space between her legs cold.

For the 25 years of being a witch, she thought she had prepared herself for this. Why did she need to be the sacrifice anyway?

"I'm so sorry," a man said. He stood right next to her naked body.

It's the man she's been seeing in her dreams. Why was he so sad? He looked like he wanted to cry but had no tears left.

"I made another mistake, and now, because of me, you'll have to die."

"B-But," Hinata tried to say, "This is to bless and atone for the sins of our people. How is this a mistake?"

The man's red eyes indicated the utmost hunger as he scanned her body. Hinata has never seen love and ego mixed up successfully. He had become what they all told her, the devil himself.

"No, I don't want to do this. Not again." He said, positioning himself on top of her, his arms around her gently, lifting her for him to embrace. His fingers dug softly into her hair, and he began to sob. Hinata felt confusion drift away the moment his vulnerability was on display. Her arms wrapped around the cold man, and she rested her head on his shoulder, her neck exposed. She knew he was going to feed on her dry, and she was okay with it. It was her reason to have been born and to live on until her 25th year… right?

"It's okay, Master."

May 1693

"Sasuke, this has become an obsession. You need to stop." A pink-haired girl would say. She was a woman Sasuke had given immortality because she told him she couldn't live without him. The real reason he gave her immortality was that she was dying at the age of 23. Maybe there was something good about what he did. 50 years went by, and she had already found her soulmate. Vampiric emotions can be too heightened when one hasn't been immortal for too long. But Sasuke? He was too good at being one. Oh yeah, the pink-haired one was called Sakura.

"I know," Sasuke said. "But this time, she didn't die because of me. For too long, I was the only one who ended her life. But not this time. How could it be?"

Sakura couldn't answer. She remained silent. The Salem Witch trials didn't stop there. It was a widespread accusation. Even they preyed on the innocent. They got it right with Hinata because she was a witch. But as Sasuke had to approach her, thinking this time he could snatch her away from the Winter Solstice atonement, they came first. They hurt her, and he was in time right before she died.

"When I came and saved her, I saw a smile on her face, Sakura. She said she was glad I came so that she could die in the hands of what mattered." Sasuke turned his face away, knowing full well his thirst won him over, and he finally took her life.

Sakura's eyes focused on Sasuke with an expression of heartbreak because she knew the whole truth. "Your life, Sasuke, is too sad. Too… horrific. Why did it have to be this way? Why didn't you just grow old with her? You owned her, right? You were her master, and she was technically your slave. Why didn't you stop there and just… Marry her?"

Sasuke was quiet at first. How would one explain the politics of the earliest age of human society to someone who's only been alive in the 1600s? But she had a point. Why did he and Hinata go too far?

"Why did Adam and Eve fall into sin… is what I would ask myself from time to time." Sasuke began, his back resting against his chair, Sakura sitting across from him. "It's not like they didn't love God. They did. They just loved knowledge and power more. Have you ever wondered why it was a snake? They don't talk. They don't reason . Why did they say it was a snake?"

The question frustrated Sasuke because he didn't know how to land his analogy. He stood from his chair and looked out from the nearest window. "They had eternity together, Sakura. They had it. God gave them that. But they let the devil, the snake , get into their heads with a coat of sugar he liked to call 'knowledge'."

"So," Sakura tried to reason, "Knowledge is… evil?"

"Depends where you get it from. Knowledge is just that; Knowledge. But what the source tells you about how to exert that knowledge often leads to … many things." Sasuke turned to look at Sakura, with her husband standing right behind her, his hand resting on her shoulder. He was a blonde-haired man, Sasuke's good friend to whom he also gave immortality. Naruto was his name. And it seemed he had been listening.

"That snake," Sasuke continued, "was the one I listened to the most. And now I'm living in its toxic cycle. Kakashi merely taught me to be educated. But I let the darkness overpower me. I was the one who convinced Hinata to dig into these covenantal spells. The most dangerous spells no witch would even want to learn."

"She's a strong witch," Naruto would say, "because getting into reincarnation itself needed a strong knowledge of spells."

"Yes. She's the first one and the only one of her kind. And I am the product of her spell. You are, too." Sasuke ran his fingers through his hair. "I don't know what the afterlife is like. But somewhere out there, she must be suffering and fighting to get here. I want to set her free from that."

Many centuries passed, and again, Sasuke failed to save her. It seemed like he couldn't get to the bottom of what could save her.

Until it was 2015, there she was. Hinata graduated from high school and was looking into entering university. That was Sasuke's chance. He did everything he could to enter university, and that would have been his…. 50th time. Maybe. I didn't count.

He would watch closely for the majors and classes she took. He decided to do the same. Sasuke was surprised that she chose to study law out of everything else. To his knowledge, the family she was born into in that year were the descendants of the earliest silver-eyes. And yet, they didn't care about their sorcery ancestry?

It was an oddity. But all Sasuke could focus on was how he should save her this time. Maybe in the ignorance of their family, she didn't have to sacrifice herself for the Winter Solstice.

"Please," he said to himself as he walked into the academy building, "let me win your heart all over."

Chapter 6

Chapter Text

December 2022 - 931 B.C.E

The dark-haired man lifted Hinata to pin her against the wall as he traced kisses down her neck. She felt an overwhelming thrill and excitement as he touched her all over. He had become the love of her life. They had graduated from law school together and had been in a relationship for most of the time. Hinata felt safe with him, and she knew him. This was the thousandth time in proximity to Sasuke. He was always so close to having her before losing her. Somehow, this Winter Solstice was different.

Why did Hinata, in the course of their years being together, keep remembering and dreaming of a weird scene… where she existed ages ago… almost ancient… and that this man, her boyfriend, was her master? Somewhere, in some era, he owned her. Mind, body, and soul. Everything within her wanted to be his. It was as if they'd been apart for 9 thousand years, and she was glad to be home.

After hours of making love, they both lay breathless on her apartment's living room floor. She glanced at her lover, who owned the best genes of handsomeness. How did she get so lucky? When she saw his eyes glancing at her, it reminded her of another scene;

A memory of them lying together in a bed while it was cold outside. And he'd say, "Let's live forever. You and me. Do you know how to do it?"

Hinata felt a migraine surge through her head as that memory presented itself. She didn't react much. Only a squint of her eyes, and that was enough to make Sasuke react. As if he knew something was going to happen and he's afraid to go through it again.

"Hey," he would say, his arms holding her close, "Headache?"

"Yeah. It's weird. I know we've been together for almost two years now. But I can't help but feel like I've known you from somewhere." Hinata said. And this wasn't the first migraine she's experienced. When she pays attention to a particular expression or movement of Sasuke's, her brain instantly takes her to an ancient memory. She kept saying and insisting that maybe they both existed before this. Sasuke, however, tried his best to deny it all.

He had tried to make her seem like she had forgotten that life existed. He found that the forgotten identity of witchcraft was a massive advantage for him. She wouldn't have to black out if she didn't regain her memories. She wouldn't have to sacrifice herself. Everything will be okay.

But she wouldn't reincarnate if he let her grow old. And she would be gone forever while he remained for eternity… barely functioning.

Another wince of pain could be felt in Hinata's head as she saw more visions of her past life. The pain got so severe that she began crying. For the first time, Sasuke didn't know what to do. He had dealt with her headache for thousands of years, which was painful to watch. But this time, she wasn't just in pain physically. She was in pain emotionally. Was this happening because it was the day of her atonement? It indeed had to be. He knew this because she said,

"Sasuke, I keep seeing an altar–a stone table in the woods–" Hinata winced, trying to contain something too much for her physical brain. "I need my pills."

She wasn't supposed to remember. Why did she recall everything? Not just memories but feelings of pain, regret, loss, bitterness, anger, and love, all at once? Sasuke felt himself cursing the devil. He took more and more each time Sasuke could finally be with her.

"Hinata, I know it's a lot right now, but let me take you to bed."

She grabbed his arm, "Please explain to me what's happening. I know, you know." Very gently, Sasuke carried her to her bedroom. He would place her on the bed, covering her nakedness with her blanket.

"I will. Let me get you your pills first."

Hinata nodded and pointed at an Ibuprofen pill case on the kitchen counter. As Sasuke walked towards it, he finally understood that everything was happening to her all at once because it was the night of Hinata's atonement. For so long, he watched her lay naked on an altar in the woods to sacrifice himself to him. And because he had been holding in his thirst and hunger for too long, he was afraid he would unleash it. It was the day of atonement… not only did Hinata need to offer herself as a sacrifice, but he was also supposed to drink her up to her death. He hoped that once this night passed, everything would be okay. He prayed, for the first time, that his hunger would subside.

When he reached for her pill case, he saw how she had been scheduled to drink them almost daily. Were her migraines this bad? Her memories were returning rapidly, especially today, on the Winter Solstice. He took a glass of water with him and one pill and decided to walk back into her bedroom. Once he saw her, she tried her best to smile, as if thanking him was draining most of her energy. She took the pill and swallowed it with water.

"Sasuke," she called out, "I'm seeing so many things right now."

"What things?" he'd ask, quite surprised.

"You and me. I'm seeing them right now . I didn't know I could look into the past."

Sasuke saw how her eyes were focusing on something invisible mid-air. She looked like she got accustomed to the overwhelming pain and emotions. As much as it was Sasuke's worst nightmare for her to discover her abilities, he was also relieved of her functioning in her identity. Looking into the past was the magic trick she could do without moving a muscle. There's no going back now. She knew.

"I… was a witch?"

"Yes," Sasuke said, a bitter taste entering his tongue, "You've always been."

"And you're–" she stopped abruptly, shocked to know his identity. She turned to look at him, and her eyes did not show a hint of judgment, "A vampire."

"Yes."

Hinata remained focused on his face, and she looked like she was downloading more knowledge. Her expression remained calm, sometimes filled with wonder, confusion, and pain. But all manageable, a contrast to what happened 10 minutes ago.

"I made you like that," she said, "because–"

"Because I wanted to live with you forever." He completed her sentence. Angry, without trying to react too much. The whole cycle was his fault; he had been working for 9000 years to fix it. And he didn't want it to fail this time. The fact she wasn't on that fucking table naked was a significant milestone.

With a wave of her hand, the setting, the room, and their surrounding atmosphere changed. Sasuke found them not too far from the mansion of his previous life. Somewhere in time, when the first human civilization started, what most called Mesopotamia, there, he first noticed Hinata walking through baskets of ingredients when they learned how to barter for basic human needs.

He was pretty sure they didn't call it "market" yet, but the point was, that's where he first saw her. And she had the most beautiful eyes.

"You noticed me first," Hinata began speaking as she looked around, somewhat amazed at her ability. "And then you approached me, remember?"

He remembered all too well. "Yes," he said. Sasuke was the richest and most powerful in that society. And he had all the authority to claim slaves. He remembered he had some, those who he took to do house chores and cook. "I was a single man who wanted a companion, so I claimed you," he explained.

Hinata nodded. "I was a witch who accepted the claim. I came to an advantage to you, didn't I?"

"You were the most beautiful woman I've ever seen,"

"I'm sorry," Hinata said, her expression changing from a smile to hurt. "I created you into this immortal being… And you've… been this way for too long."

Even with people walking past them, Hinata looked exquisite. She stood out. And altogether, he remembered why he chose her. She wasn't just a beautiful woman. Something about her calls out his name, and he couldn't explain how. As for Hinata, being owned by the man was the most natural feeling ever.

"Don't be. It was my idea, Hinata. Today, you were supposed to die, and I was supposed to kill you. Some glitch happened in that spell that caused all of our sufferings. I'm just glad right now you're not… in pain. And I'm not in need of feeding."

Oddly enough, he didn't feel hungry anymore. That was a first. Hinata's headache left her head, mainly because of the ibuprofen. But she looked alright. She looked healed.

"Sasuke, whenever I came back and reincarnated," she began, her hand reaching his. It was funny to relive the first moments of their meeting as if their surroundings became an authentic atmosphere. "I saw something," she continued, "it's crazy how the spiritual world is more real than the natural. And I've been messing around with the spiritual for far too long."

Hinata let her eyes wander and saw her family at a distance, looking through things they could barter. Her gaze softened when she saw her mother—someone who had died in the modern world. "I saw the difference between heaven and hell," her fingers now intertwined with Sasuke's.

"I saw how the powers I sought since the beginning of time… wasn't the truth I wanted. It's all lies. That's why we're suffering."

Sasuke listened in very closely, forgetting that everything around them was an illusion. But the fact that he saw Kakashi in his human form for the first time after thousands of years made his heart move.

"When I shifted my gaze to see the light, I felt unexplainable peace." Hinata continued, "Peace that surpasses all understanding… and I was sure that was what Heaven feels like."

A tear may have dropped out of his eyes when he saw his family again. They saw them busy with daily things, looking around, bartering, as if they hadn't aged a bit. Hinata saw his gaze, and she smiled, "So I told myself that I will return, reincarnate, and try my best to regain my memories and bring us back to where we started."

Sasuke turned to look at her, "I never wanted you to make another deal with sorcery, Hinata. The misery we've been through is more than enough."

Hinata shook her head, "I didn't make a deal with anyone. I didn't sacrifice anything to fix things."

He couldn't believe what he was hearing. Naruto was right. She was fighting to be reincarnated. "So… what did you do?" Sasuke asked.

"I trusted His grace. It's a gift. And it costs nothing."

"Who?" Sasuke had to be reassured.

Hinata smiled, "You'll know. Sasuke, this is real life."

From a distance, his mother called out to remind him she was about to cook dinner before leaving with her husband and older brother. They all waved at him, and when he waved back, they smiled. His surroundings had become a reality.

"All these years of suffering, they were lies. Illusions. We're now back to where we were. Sasuke, we've always been here."

"I don't understand. Those years felt too real."

Hinata nodded. "It did. Pain is real. But the light that heals it is more real. I never understood why we are so drawn to lies when the truth sets you free."

Sasuke took a moment to realize it, and he found that his hunger resembled normal human needs. He felt warmth through his veins, and for the first time, he felt his heart beating. He looked at Hinata, whose eyes formed way too many tears of joy.

"We're finally together, Master," she said.

Sasuke threw his arms around her and held her in a tight embrace. His tears couldn't be withheld. They were calmer than he'd expected. He'd been wondering how his heart would explode on the day she could finally be his. But when he knelt down one night to beg God for a chance, he didn't think he'd actually get it. He was now human again, holding the love of his life. He was back to his origins, the happiest place he could ever be. His family, her family, their world was pieced back together.

"Let the healing begin," Hinata said, "and let's be whole."

That was the day after the Winter Solstice.

AUTHOR'S NOTE

Truth be told, I wasn't sure where I was going with this story. For sure it had been an outline of mine for so long and I never got around to writing it until I got you as my giftee. However, I only had a month to finish it up so this is kind of the summarized version of the whole plot I had. I'm so glad you prompted this and I'm so glad you're my giftee.

I do have plans to write the complete and detailed version of this plot. If you wish, whenever I'm finished, I can send you the first draft as a gift. But most of all, I hope you find healing in whatever area of your life that has pain overpowering. I also hope you enjoyed reading this!

The Merriest Christmas to you, Sen! Have a great one this year.

Yours truly,

Galore.
