Masumi had just turned ten years old when she first saw a corpse. All she knew was that everyone else was screaming and she wasn't. Her green eyes analyzed the body before she placed her hands into the pockets of her shorts. She didn't understand why everyone else was screaming; shouldn't they want to cover up the body instead of just leaving the poor person's corpse simply lying there? The girl was very confused when she started to notice that something was strange about the body. Well, it was a few things Masumi had noticed. The woman's cheeks were extremely pale and her eyes had shrunken. Drugs? Masumi's brain supplied her with only one thing she knew that could cause such a reaction in the human body.
However, before she could think more about it, she found herself getting pulled away from the corpse after her mother had walked back to their table after she had gone into the restaurant for her daughter. "Mama?" She questioned and Mary couldn't help but glare at Masumi, causing the girl to realize that her mother was being serious about leaving. The girl flinched and she quickly looked down, not realizing that Mary was mentally beating herself up for scaring her only daughter. She was just curious about what was going on. She had to remind herself that it wasn't Masumi's fault she was curious.
"I'm sorry, Masumi but we need to leave now," the woman refused to stay there once the police had been called. Mary scooped Masumi into her arms and started to run out of the restaurant, not willing to let her daughter get stuck in such a situation. Hell, she didn't even want to be in such a situation either. The police are going to question everyone and I'm not ready to get caught up in such a mess. Mary momentarily stared at the corpse of the poor woman who had been killed and she bowed her head as best as she could while running away.
Once she was outside of the building, she refused to put Masumi down, not wanting anyone to snatch Masumi away from her. "Mama?" Masumi called out to her and Mary turned to her with a rare, small smile on her lips. I hope she never has to go through what I had to go through. Mary didn't want that life for her daughter, wanting the girl to be safe from everything connected with her job as M16. I need to make sure she will be protected. Mary wanted nothing but the best for her daughter and she was going to make sure Masumi would have a happy life, even if it needed to be away from her most of the time. I don't want to leave her with just anyone. Mary wondered who she would be able to trust with Masumi and when she started to think about it more, she realized she would be able to trust Morofushi Hiromitsu. The woman knew she had to be careful in letting just anyone take care of her only daughter but she didn't mind allowing Hiromitsu to protect Masumi from the sidelines. Mary trusted the man as much as Shuichi did and thus, she knew Masumi would be in safe hands, especially since she was going to ask him to protect the girl while he kept himself hidden in the shadows.
Once they had made it back to their hotel, Mary laid a sleeping Masumi on the other bed. She headed over to step onto the balcony and pulled out her phone. She dialed Shiuchi's number first. When her eldest son responded to her call, Mary was very relieved to hear his voice and she smiled softly. "You actually picked up the phone," she huffed. Shuichi huffed back.
"What is it?" He wondered why his mother was calling, knowing she only called when it related to business, so he figured it had to be pretty serious if she was calling him first.
"Is Scotch available for a personal mission?" Mary made sure to use the man's code name for the Black Organization, knowing it was dangerous for her to even be communicating with them at the moment but the woman was desperate to get protection for Masumi.
"What's the mission?" Shuichi wasn't usually noisy but it was his mother he was talking to and he wondered what was going on.
"I'm ready to cash in that favor you offered me years ago, Dai," Mary told him and Shuichi breathed out slowly, never expecting his mother to actually listen to his advice, knowing that the woman usually goes her own way when it comes to things. It must be pretty serious if she's willing to use Hiro. Shuichi had no problems in letting Hiromitsu protect his baby sister; he wanted to watch her grow up and yet, he could only watch her grow up in pictures.
"I can let him know," he told Mary. "How is Masumi?" He had to ask, always wanting to know. He may not be able to visit her but damn it, he still cared for her. Mary noticed how hurt Shuichi sounded and she let out a small huff.
"She's fine, happy even," Mary rolled her eyes, wondering how that was happening because she knew Masumi didn't get her cheery personality from her.
"I can give you Scotch's number," Shuichi told her and Mary made a small noise of appreciation. "You're welcome," he responded causing Mary to scoff. He knew the woman was thankful; she just wasn't going to come out and say it. She's a total softie, whether she admits it or not. The man knew not to say his thoughts out loud, knowing his mother would definitely want to have his head for thinking such things about her. Shuichi sent Hiro a message that told the man everything he would need to know. When Hiro sent back a positive response, Shuichi knew Mary would be pleased.
"He said he will call you as soon as we are finished," he concluded. Mary blinked.
"Okay," Shuichi heard the emotion in the tone and he didn't know what to say, knowing that the woman was always a person of few words and mostly distrusted everyone around her.
So the fact that she was willing to trust Hiro with Masumi's protection says a lot. Shuichi had even agreed that Hiro would be the best person to protect the girl, knowing that he would be able to make sure that no one was following Masumi as he would remain in the shadows, making sure the girl would be safe.
