Well, it's been an absolute hot minute since I've uploaded something. School has been kicking my ass, life has been kicking my ass, and writer's block has been a pain too. Frankly, it's been so long since I've written I had this ready for months purely nervous on if this is any good but hey I wanted to upload today and I did! i just hope it's good and my grammar isn't too terrible this time around.
Anyway, this fic has been inspired by multiple artworks of Subaru being a vampire and Ram being a Nun, I wish I could link you all the artists because though simple and old it's a good send and just so cute but you know what I can link a child vampire Subaru and Beako artwork that is Canon to my little fic. /shen1461889/status/1693997037266882829
Anyway. I hope you enjoy!
Inside a castle made out of black stone surrounded by miles of forest littered with vicious wolves, man-eating snakes, and other horrible creatures of the night, a single man lay in wait.
A threat to humanity with his kind being what most would call abominations to the beauty that is life slept peacefully in a basement underneath the castle grounds. Inside a single coffin made out of pure black stone littered with orange, black, and white stripes illuminated by the faint glow of mana crystals scattered on many of the pillars surrounding the area.
Engraved on the very middle of the coffin almost glowing beautifully underneath the light of the crystals was a symbol. A symbol of danger that's meant to ward away anyone who enters, a symbol that evokes fear to anyone who merely stares at it.
The symbol that was engraved across the coffin was a simple orange star. A warning to all should the lid of the pristine coffin be opened they would meet their end at the hands of a ferocious humanoid beast.
Rumors have it if such a creature were to awaken and leave the bounds of his lands the calamity that would ensue would make the destruction caused by the Envious witch of folklore look like mere child's play.
Luckily for the world, he still rest.
As the sun descended from the sky with darkness grasping over the land. The moon rose up to brighten the world in its place. The creature, the child of the night remained inside his coffin forever in a blissful dream.
At least for the time being.
Inside his coffin where not even an ounce of light could pierce through. The creature's sharp ears twitched as the sound of light footsteps against marble flooring filled the air. The sound was amplified by the vastness of the basement filling every corner as it grew closer and closer to the coffin lying in the middle.
A smirk began to form on his face as he shifted his body the best he could in the tight coffin and waited patiently. Letting the footsteps come closer and closer until suddenly it stopped.
There was nothing but peaceful silence for a few seconds before it was interrupted by the faint sound of someone blowing on his casket. Dust, dirt, and other pieces of debris that had gathered over time gently hit the ground. At that moment he could have struck but no, he waited patiently for a specific sound.
A sound that only the foolish would make and soon he heard it: The black stone lid covering his coffin grinding against the lower half. For the first time in a while like the sun greeting humans in the morning the faint glow of the light crystals hit his eyelids and he could feel small hints of wind blowing on his face.
Now was the time to strike.
"Who dares awaken me from my eternal slumber?!" The raven-haired boy asked nearly at the top of his lungs. Lifting himself from the coffin in an arch and opening his mean eyes. His gaze shined with a mixture of excitement and anger as he bared his fangs at the one who dared wake him.
Normally all those who heard his voice and met his gaze would tremble and be unable to move from the sheer primal fear that overlapped the soul, but not this one. The person responsible for his awakening was a little girl with blue butterfly pupils and blonde twin-drilled hair. She had a tiny black hat wrapped in a pink bow and bat wings hanging off from the left side of one of her hair drills. She wore an elegant puffy black and white dress that was littered with a couple of similar pink bows including a large one just above her collar.
"Are you going to that every time Betty wakes you up, I wonder?" The little girl asked holding back a sigh of disappointment. "Betty doesn't understand why her Subaru feels the need to do such a thing?"
"Because Beako! It's important for a vampire to strike fear into those who enter his tomb and lift up his casket!" Subaru said, dramatically lifting himself up and looking far off into the distance of the dark room. "Just like my father and mother before me when someone eventually tries to invade us, I'll send them running with my mere presence!"
"No one has attempted to invade the castle in centuries, and even before our mother and father left all those years ago we have remained undisturbed all this time. If we don't factor in the standard visits from our friends I suppose."
"Don't start destroying a vampire's dream now!" Subaru cried out, causing the little girl to sigh and then smile at her contractor. Seeing him awake and energetic as always did bring joy to the Great Spirit's heart.
"Of course, Betty knows anyone who would dare show their face here that together we would give them a scare that would cause their very soul to leave their bodies." She declared proudly with a puff of her chest and then proceeded to bare her own tiny fangs.
Letting out a small 'hmm' Subaru took a moment before he responded. "I really don't think that would be the case if I'm being honest, Beako, I know I could scare them but you…."
"What?!" The Great Spirit asked as a bit of embarrassment and anger showed on her features. "Is it that Betty isn't scary enough, I suppose?"
"No, no, no, you are really scary. It's just that you're also very cute and, frankly," Subaru once again hesitated. He placed his hand on his chin as he looked up and down the great vampiric spirit before nodding in agreement with his own thought process. "Your cuteness overpowers your scare factor by 100, so they would be stunned into silence and die from how cute you are rather than from how scary you are."
He finished his statement, and it was not a matter of opinion but fact. A fact that the Great Spirit truly couldn't deny as long before she joined House Natsuki. She guarded a great library filled with the knowledge left behind by one of the world's seven great and evil witches, her creator and mother, the Witch Of Greed Echidna.
Many travelers from around the world would come to the library in seek of the knowledge that it contained, having to go through many trials. One of them was finding the library in the first place as there would be infinite doors that seemed to lead into different rooms. If by sheer luck (like her contractor before) they discovered the door, they would have to face her.
During her time as a guardian, there would be two types of reactions most travelers held when they faced the Great Spirit. Some believed she was nothing more than a lost little girl who stumbled upon the library and never managed to find her way out. While others were smarter, immediately raising their weapons and taking fighting stances. However, there was something each and every group had in common, from the most naive idiot to the most battle-hardened veteran.
For a few seconds, they would all just stare at her, not moving, not talking, before finally underneath each one of their breaths they muttered a single word. 'Cute'
In fact, 999 of the 1,000 people that have journeyed into the library their first words were along the lines of "Who is this adorable little girl?" Some even had the nerve of trying to give her a head pat something that she only allowed her contractor to do!
"It is a curse that Mother created Betty to look so adorable, I suppose." The Spirit sighed, placing a hand on her head preparing to lament on her curse but could not do so as she was instantly snatched off the ground. Another curse was just how light she was. For being a great vampiric Spirit of Yin, she weighs less than a feather. Arguably even a small child could pick her up with relative ease.
"Your cuteness is a gift, and only a gift Beako!" Subaru declared bringing the little girl closer into a hug. "Who wouldn't want to have such a cute Great Spirit by their side? I'm the luckiest vampire on the planet!"
"P-P-Put me down, I suppose! Don't make me bite you, in fact!" The Great Spirit cried, feeling her nonexistent bones being crushed under the pressure of the hug.
"Beako's cute. Beako's adorable, really. Beako is–" Subaru would not be able to finish his constant chanting, as suddenly he recoiled in pain. The right side of his ear felt like it was stabbed by two needles.
"Beako!" Subaru screamed out and placed his great spirit down carefully before rushing over with his hand to soothe the right side of his ear leaking a few droplets of blood.
"Betty's contractor doesn't know how to treat a Great Spirit with respect, I suppose." She turned away from him and licked away the bits of blood that had gotten on her teeth. "Betty won't forgive you for this unless you give her 100 head pats."
"I would give you 100 head pats for free," Subaru said with a smile and without any hesitation, began to slowly pat the great spirit's hair, feeling her soft blond hair on her skin The small head lasted a few seconds but the children of darkness regenerated their hearts and souls from the simple exchange.
"Beako's still too cute." Subaru would say as he continued patting the loli's head.
"Naturally, of course" She huffed out in agreement as even the most awful of curses had some kind of blessing, and her cuteness was the greatest blessing there is. "Betty is glad to see you awake again."
"It's good to be awake." Subaru would say as he retracted his arm and began to stretch his body. Slowly lifting up his left arm and twisting in an almost 180 fashion to the sides cracking all of his stiff bones at once. "Man. Sleeping in that coffin is so uncomfortable I don't know how other vampires do it."
"Why don't you sleep on the bed like you usually do, I wonder?" Beatrice asked, turning her head slightly and looking at the coffin her eyebrows slowly forming a frown.
"Aw, is Beako sad because we didn't sleep together?" He teased, and that earned a reaction from the Great Spirit whose face became red. "You know, I always wondered why my coffin would always open up randomly and it would feel like something is nuzzling up next to me."
"That's not the case, in fact!" She quickly denied, stomping her feet onto the ground. "Betty just doesn't understand the need to sleep in such a dirty thing. It looks uncomfortable, and you always come out messy when you do it, in fact!"
Subaru opened his mouth to retort, but he stopped himself as he looked down upon his track-suit which was safe to say a complete and utter mess. It was covered from head to toe in black dust to the point where the orange and white colors could barely be seen as nothing more than spots, and worse yet, it seemed like spiders somehow managed to get inside his tightly sealed coffin as there were spiderwebs covering his entire body with even a fly stuck in the web.
'Well, looks like I need a long shower.' The vampire thought to himself as he swatted away as much dust as he could from his clothing. Though piles fell and landed upon the clear marble floor and his coffin, it did little besides reveal some of the bright orange parts of his tracksuit.
"Man, how long could I have been asleep for so much dust to gather around me, a few hundred years?!" He asked in shock, frustration, and embarrassment at his current state. He tried his best to continue removing as much dust as possible, but not much progress was made.
"You were only asleep for an entire week, in fact." The Great Spirit answered.
"Only a week?!" Subaru said with shock-filled eyes almost falling back into his coffin. "Shouldn't my endless slumber last an entire year, at most? "
It was a tradition that after a certain age, a vampire must at least every 10 years fall into a deep slumber for an entire year locked inside a dark coffin. His mother had done it, his father had done it, and now he was the only one left in his family who hadn't done so.
The reason why was tradition. There had been rumors that once during the demi-human wars. When defeat was almost certain. A vampire who had spent an entire year in slumber arose and struck down the enemy with speed and strength that no other vampire had seen before. When they asked for his secret, he merely stated that he slept for a year.
Wait, now that he was thinking about it.
'Could the person who created this tradition just be a lazy blood-sucker who didn't want to get up while a war was happening? How the hell do you sleep for an entire year during the middle of a war?!'
"Normally it does last a year, but Betty needed to wake you up I suppose." The Great Spirit spoke up, breaking Subaru out of his train of thought.
"Aw, is it because Beako missed me so? I did too, even if I was asleep. Being separated from Beako for an entire week hurts the very soul!" Subaru declared.
"Betty knows that her contractor was missing her touch every second while you were in that coffin, I suppose."
"You know me too well, Beako," Subaru said with another smile and patted the Great spirit's head with glee. Though a bit of dust and dirt stuck, the loli didn't seem to mind, she could deal with it later.
"So what do you want to do first, Beako?"
"First, you need to take a shower in fact. Betty will not have her contractor be in such a state." She began pointing up and down at Subaru who sheepishly nodded.. "Betty has always taken the liberty of picking some fresh new clothes for you just before Betty woke you up."
"That's my Beako, always so thoughtful. What did a guy like me do to have met someone as cute and kind as you?!" He said at the top of his lungs, causing the great spirit to show a small smile and lift up a second finger.
"After you finish bathing and do your late-night exercise, you need to make some popcorn for the both of us, in fact."
"Ah, of course, I can do that. Anything for my Beako, but just two questions. Why do we need popcorn? Also, it's uncharacteristic of you to tell me to make something especially if it was a surprise you would have had it already made, so what's wrong?" he asked, tilting his head to the side out of curiosity causing the Great Spirit to look down on her feet.
"B-Betty can't reach the box on the fridge or the microwave." She sheepishly whispered in embarrassment before, in complete 180 change stared with cute angry eyes at her contractor. "Why did Subaru have to place everything so high up before he fell asleep, I wonder?!"
Subaru was slightly taken aback at just how angry the Great Spirit was at him although of coursed her anger was more cute than frightening. It didn't stop Subaru from giving out a sheepish reply. "Sorry, Beako, I promise to be more considerate."
After all, what kind of contractor would leave his Great Spirit alone for an entire week while he slumbers only to leave everything so high up?
"You better, in fact!" She replied, and he could see in her eyes she was already plotting her revenge and his arm suddenly felt sore. "As for your first question, the reason for the popcorn is that the movie we couldn't see in theaters came out on DVD, in fact"
Subaru's eyes widened at the words. His cold, dead heart returned to life as it began to beat at a 100th of a second. His mouth opened to speak, but the words couldn't escape.
Instead of waiting for him to find the words caught in his throat. Beatrice merely gave her contractor a smug smile and slowly, from within the hand-sewn pockets of her dress, she took out a blue case.
The cover showed an image of a few people running away from what seemed to be a figure in a black robe driving its knife into the back of a survivor who had fallen behind with the silver moon shining upon them, but even so, Subaru could have ignored the cover art completely and faint at the mere sight of the cover name.
'Shirek six'
"T-this!" Subaru took a step forward grabbing the box feeling the smooth plastic and held onto it tightly as if any moment now it could disappear. "T-this isn't supposed to come out on DVD until years after the release in theaters, and even if it did, h-how did you get to the retail store and back? The trip takes two weeks even in our bat forms."
"Betty has her ways, in fact," She said with a confident smug smile puffing out and placing her hand on her chest with pride. "She deserves some praise for her efforts, I suppose."
Subaru did in fact praise the great spirit for her efforts, he praised her in the only way he knew how. He grabbed the great spirit, lifted her up, and began to spin her around like a little girl who just got a brand-new doll.
"Beako's the absolute best! Beako MVP!" He shouted with his voice echoing throughout the empty halls of the basement floor of the castle, as he spun the Great Spirit around over and over again a smile beaming across his face.
"Y-you're welcome I suppose. But please P-put me down I suppose. You're getting Betty's elegant dress dirty! In fact!" The Great Spirit screamed out to heaven but her cries were overpowered by the joyful cries and praises of her contractor.
By the time Subaru was done spinning around and felt dizzy to the point where taking a single step felt like he could take would cause him to fall flat on his face. He finally put the Great Spirit back on her feet she was a complete mess. Her face was covered in dust and bits of cobwebs, her elegant black dress hid most of the mess, and the white parts and the pink bow ties were filthy.
"Sorry Beako got a little carried away," Subaru said sheepishly as he rubbed his dirty hands at the back of his head, chuckling at his now dirty Great Spirit who pouted and stared at her contractor in anger.
In retaliation for the humiliation and sins of her contractor, the Great Spirit who was already standing right next to him fought back in the only way she could and that was by slamming her small fist against his leg, over, and over again. The force of her impact held no weight, in fact being slapped with a feather would have caused damage and it took everything in his power to not chuckle and instead masked it as feigned pain.
"Sorry, sorry, Sorry!" he begged but the great spirit kept repeating her attack for another five seconds before finally stopping. Taking a second to take deep breaths, and regaining some of the energy she lost on her relentless assault on her contractor's legs.
"Now Betty is filthy as well in fact!" Beatrice gestured towards herself, outstretching her arm, and when she did bits of dirt dropped onto the ground.
"Sorry, I just got really excited. Shirek six, I thought I would have to wait 100 years to even get my hands on it. Forgive me!" The vampire boy said with his arms in a pleading motion, begging for the forgiveness of his spirit.
"Truly Betty's contractor is hopeless and doesn't understand boundaries, especially when it comes to women in fact!"
"Don't word it like that! That makes me out to be some kind of predator, do I look like Edp445 to you?!" Subaru cried out.
"Ed- who?" The Great Spirit asked clearly confused as she understood that the name belonged to someone on the internet but didn't know who. Despite being 400 years old their parents had left a child safety lock on the house computer and only Subaru knew the password and he was not willing to give it to her.
"A disgusting man, who I don't want you getting anywhere nearby, you can turn into him mana crystals for all I care.." Subaru said with venom in his voice as narrowing his eyes. "Anyway Beako, how about this? Let's just move on and get a couple of blood bags, get that popcorn hot and ready, and we sit down for a wonderful movie night!"
"That would be acceptable in fact, but first." She pointed at her contractor with her filthy fingertip and in a tone akin to that of a mother scolding a child. "Shower now, you are still filthy in fact."
"Ok, Ok, I get it I get it but you have to take one as well. now If you want Beak I cou-"
Subaru would not have a chance to finish his sentence as with a snap of her fingers a gust of wind rushed inside the large empty basement floor they were in. In only five seconds every spec of dirt, dust, cobweb, and even bit of food that had gone unnoticed due to how small the bits truly were all got lifted up from the Great Spirit's dress and hung freely in the air as a mini black tornado that was being tamed and controlled by the Great Spirit's open right hand.
With a simple motion of her hand moving to the left she commanded the tornado of filth to slowly pick up the remaining trash around her, and even took the liberty of taking care of the bits of filth inside of Subaru's coffin. Effectively cleaning both the inside and the outside and even the marble floor.
By the time she was done, both she, the coffin, and even the marble floors were completely clean with not even a trace of dirt remaining. The only person who remained filthy in the room was-
"That's not fair. Can't you just do that for me?!" He screamed in envy, looking at how clean the Great Spirit looked compared to himself who still looked like a complete mess.
"You slept in a coffin for an entire week, wind will not be enough in fact. Not only are you filthy you also smell in fact!" She responded back this time pinching her nose and giving a repulsive look.
"Are you sure that's not just the Masima Satella put on me?" Subaru asked.
"It's not only the stench Satella gave you, have you smelled yourself I wonder?" The Great Spirit countered.
"Oh come on I can't smell that bad!" Subaru screamed out and brought his arm close to his nose taking a giant sniff–
"Ack-" Subaru gagged nearly falling on the ground, the smell burned his nose, brought water to his eyes, and seemed to halt air from entering his lungs as if his very being was afraid of taking another sniff of whatever the hell was his stench. He could do nothing but cough and slam his fist on the ground as he did everything in power to force his body to recover from the sudden smelly assault.
"Point taken, I'm getting a tow- " He stopped mid-sentence to gag again unintentionally inhaling his own horrible stench nceo. "I'll probably be in the shower for three entire hours, get the blood bags ready, Beako. Our movie night will be grand, once I finish taking a shower!"
With that the nasty-eyed smelly vampire began to run at full speed towards one of the staircases leading out of the basement.
Beatrice merely sighed at the display, before smiling. "Betty will indeed prepare the drinks." She whispered and slowly followed her contractor out of the basement.
When Subaru finally got out of the shower he felt like a new man. Not only due to the fact that he removed the foul stench that plagued his body with the world's finest soap and water, and his breath was now minty fresh thanks to gallons of toothpaste used in the process but also the fact just how energnized he was felt.
'Maybe that story really did have some truth to it, I feel like I could stay up for an entire year!'' Subaru thought to himself walking out of the bathroom and letting the steam from the hot shower exit while he used one of the spare towels in his hand to dry his hair and stepped inside a place he hasn't been to in an entire week, his very own room.
Compared to the typical mansions, and even other rooms of his own home which were all lushes and fancy. His room was fairly modest in all aspects. It contained one king-size bed in the middle with two desks and a medium-sized TV with the latest gaming console with several open windows letting in the cool air of the starry night sky with the moon shining proudly above him.
Honestly, it took everything Subaru had in him not to jump on his bed and just lay down on something that wasn't stone but he couldn't. Today was an important day after all. Besides he wouldn't dare wrinkle up the outfit that Beatrice had taken the time to pick up from him that was neatly folded in the middle of the bed.
"Subaru are you almost done, I suppose?" Beatrice called from the other side of the door and quickly Subaru responded with a—
"Almost done, Beako! I'm just fixing my hair ."
"When are you going to be done, I wonder?" She asked again but didn't have to wait long as she heard the doorknob turn and open, and Subaru stood face to face with the great spirit with a large pointy-fanged smile.
She stared with a bit of awe at Subaru for a moment completely entranced by his handsome features now that it was free of dust and cobweb and it was all made better with him wearing the outfit she had chosen for him.
The mean-eyed vampire wore a simple pristine white suit with a buttoned down black-vest over it. A red gem in the shape of blood in a golden outline was neatly in place at the center of his collar and his black cape with red coloring on the inside reached down to his legs being carefully held up and maintained together by a golden chain above the collar. His outfit was almost matched by similar-looking all-black pants and black church shoes.
Beatrice could do nothing but stare at her contractor as even though she picked out the clothing, this was one of the few times she had seen it actually worn. Normally it was used for special occasions but of course there is nothing more special than a movie night between Spirit and Contractor!
Subaru meanwhile was also staring at Beatrice. Not looking at how cute she was for that was a given and had already been said a thousand times but his gaze was entranced by what she was holding. She carried a small orange bucket that was filled to the point of overflowing with cooled plastic bags each containing a red liquid that made his mouth parched, and his stomach begins to growl.
"Blood bags!" The Vampire said aloud almost squealing like a little girl taking one of the blood bags and was about to sink his teeth into it before stopping. "Wait, you got a straw?"
Without even an ounce of hesitation she dug her hands into one of the sewed in pockets of her dress and took out a small plastic yellow straw. "You're still a baby I suppose, Subaru could just drink the blood bag with his fangs." She said as Subaru gratefully took the straw from her hand.
"Hey, I don't want to bite plastic each time I want to drink. It's bad for the teeth, you know." He declared pointing at his fangs. "Besides, you also use a straw as well."
"Betty only does that because she doesn't have as big of fangs in fact! " The little girl said aloud showing her own two fangs they were a lot smaller than Subarus' and also slightly weaker looking. However, her cries were ignored as Subaru pushed the straw into the plastic blood bag and took a sip.
He shuddered at the familiar feeling of blood entering his mouth. he strange sensation of someone's life force being added to his. The flavor was as sweet as candy and honey with a slightly bitter taste at the end. It gave off almost a high that Subaru couldn't explain but one thing was for sure and it was that he would never get tired of the taste for as long as he lived, he was a vampire after all.
"Man, that's good," Subaru said removing his lip from the straw and looking down at his blood bag already finished halfway. "You know, I'm surprised the blood drive is doing as well as it is. I thought it would kinda go under due to the fact half of their blood supplies go missing every month"
"Don't worry in fact, Betty already checked the schedule and they have plenty of blood left over, they will never run low. The advertisement Subaru made seemed to work really well even after all these years in fact." Beatrice answered.
"Those free pizza coupons really do work their magic huh.." Subaru put his hand on his chin as he took another sip of his drink. Though he hadn't caught up or heard about the Natuski-Blood drive for a year at that point. He still remembers putting up a small sign with the words 'Free large pizza coupon per donation.'
His friend, a doctor by the name of Felix Argyle had screamed at him for how this was a bad idea, and how they would be bankrupt but he assured the cat-eared man that it would work out perfectly. Sure there were a few problems the first few months but ever since then the business has been booming with thousands of people lining up to give their blood.
Last he heard, the Natsuki Blood-drive business had several locations around the country, and even in some parts of the world. Saving thousands of lives and unknowing to most of the general public kept two hungry vampires fed.
"Now I want pizza," he said but immediately shook the idea away, turning to one of the nearby windows and looking upon the endless lush of green that surrounded his place. "Well it would be impossible, who wants to go through a forest of bloodthirsty beasts, well our fault for living in the middle of almost nowhere."
"We could always get it ourselves, if Subaru wants Betty could get some money and we can set out now," Beatrice suggested but Subaru shook his head.
"No, it takes a week to get to the nearest city and a week back in our bat forms and factoring in we have to carry an entire box of pizza!" Subaru shiveredas he could already feel his arms getting sore at the sheer thought of flying into the city. "It'll just get cold besides we have everything we need for a successful movie night! Each other, blood-bags and most importantly popcorn!"
"That is true I suppose but Betty doesn't understand why you had to make 15 batches." The Great Spirit tilted her head, as ironically both their super-human noses caught a whiff of the popcorn made in their kitchen.
"Who knows Beako, we might rewatch it over and over again or watch other movies. We can turn movie night into movie nights!" Subaru answered with childlike glee.
Beatrice paused for a moment at his words and smiled. "That sounds like a possibility in fact. Betty would not mind staying up for days just rewatching it. We can also watch the other installments to compare."
Subaru's face lit up his smile almost brighter than a full moon. "Well let's not waste any more time Beako, onwards!" He said aloud pointing his way. "Off the living room, we go! I can't wait to watch this."
"Betty can't as well. She heard people talking about it while she was out in the streets. In fact, they say it was the best in the entire franchise."
Subaru gasped, turning to his great spirit with almost bulging eyes. "Even better than the original?"
"Even better than the original I suppose!" Beatrice answered and they increased their walking speed with smiles on their faces and in only a matter of seconds they descended down the floors and made it to the living room.
The living room was something of pure beauty to anyone who laid eyes on it. The first thing anyone would be greeted with with a large couch big enough to fit 12 people with a clear glass table in front of it, all facing the direction of a massive 15x15 TV screen with two black loudspeakers connected to the side.
All made better by the added welcoming scent of the five large bowls of popcorn popped down in the middle of the black rectangular table and that of chilled blood coming from the mini fridge right next to the coach. It's exterior already open and the golden red liquid almost twinkling amongst the ice.
The TV was already open with a picture of multiple survivors all looking off in a different direction while the killer stands meancingly above all of them bloody knife held up in his hands. All the while in the middle of the screen was a single word dripping with blood.
Play?
"Man, I can't wait to watch this and with Beako with me it's even better!" Subaru nearly screamed out with a cheerful grin grabbing two blood bags and making sure to take some straws as well and handed one of each to Beatrice.
Subaru sat down in the middle of the couch blood bag in one hand popcorn in the other and with Beatrice already taking her seat directly on his lap choosing to ignore the free space on the couch but Subaru didn't mind. Her head didn't even reach his chin so it wasn't like she was obscuring his view besides If he gets scared he can merely keep patting her head or hug her tightly until he feels all better anyway.
"I got the remote I suppose." The Great Spirit said as she lifted up a small remote controller in her tiny hand, he pressed one button and instantly the hud faded, the camera slowly panning up at the killer as screen slowly began to darken.
They could barely contain their excitement as a calm melody began to enwrap the entire room causing Subaru and Beatrice to be more entranced by the movie than they already were.
"This is going-"
Suddenly they heard something, something small, faint even to the point where it would be unnoticeable, and for a moment they questioned if they were just hearing things. However, their ears twitched a bit as they could have sworn they heard another noise, and it certainly wasn't from the TV as Beatrice immediately closed it.
They both held their breath for a moment honing in on their super hearing focusing on the rustling of the winds, the chirping of crickets, and…footsteps just beyond the front door of their home.
"Someone is here I suppose," Beatrice muttered, getting off her contractor's lap and looking at the open hallway. "I can hear footsteps outside."
"Doesn't sound like an animal. They don't even come this far" Subaru sighed, crossing his hand. "You think it could be an adventurer?"
"Most likely, few would go through that forest with a bunch of monsters willingly unless they seek the castle. I suppose." Beatrice answered.
"Usually, I would be excited but they're interrupting our movie night!" Subaru nearly screamed, sinking deep into the comfortable couch in frustration. "Oh well, there's only one thing we can do now."
"What's that I suppose?" Beatrice asked causing Subaru to smile and reveal his sharp fangs and stood up pointing his finger to the sky hitting his signature pose.
"We scare the living daylights out of them, and force whoever it is to run with their tails behind their backs! They'll run so fast out of sheer speed a cheetah would look slower in comparison." Subaru declared.
Beatrice paused for a moment and a mischievous smile of her own began to take place. "That sounds like a wonderful idea I suppose, maybe this will prove to you how scary Betty can be."
"Don't kill them with your cuteness now" Subaru teased.
"Betty will prove you wrong I suppose." The Great Spirit declared silently and turned her head in the direction of the footsteps, the two creatures of the night smiling wide and their eyes begin to glow in the darkness around them.
Ready, and waiting for the poor fool who dared entered their domain.
An annoyed sigh escaped her lips as she dragged her feet across the grass in a feigned hope that it would remove the dirt, mud, grime, blood, and guts that were underneath the bottom of her shoe.
Of course, she knew when deciding to make the hike towards the mansion in the middle of the forest that it wouldn't be easy but knowing that it wouldn't didn't make the fact she had to go through seemingly endless beast any less annoying.
To her own credit other than the bottom of her shoe. Her black skirt dress, veil, and golden cross around her neck were spotless and surprisingly even her hands. Despite the fact during her journey toward the mansion is nothing short of a blood fest. She encountered a beast from small little baby horned dogs that attempted to bite her, to a massive hippo-like beast. She dealt with each of those threats with a golden six-shot revolver in her holster underneath the small leather armor around her waist.
Should she run out of ammo she would use her unnatural strength to crush the beast one by one with her bare hands, and legs. A lot of her kills are, unfortunately, messy with the end result being a lot of exploding heads and broken monster bones.
"It's shameful for a humble Nun to get her hands dirty" The woman exhaled with an annoyed sigh, thinking back to what had got her into the situation. Rumors of a vampire with mean eyes have been entering and causing chaos, something about him being responsible for causing a scene at a movie theater.
It was an entire year ago but the hunting guild was scared that it might happen again, so it was her duty as the head nun of the greatest Church in Luiginica to put an end to this quickly before anything else happens.
"It can't be helped, another case of pest extermination," She thought to herself as she approached the black-stone mansion, taking a few seconds to check her supplies and continuing forward towards the silver gate and attempted to open it but of course, it didn't budge.
She tsked at that and moved a step back, and delivered a small kick. The heel of her thigh boots hit the middle of the gate, and with ease, the bolts that kept the gate locked and guarded broke off and opened with a creak.
She took a few seconds to scan the area waiting to see if some Mabeast or guard dog would come at her at the loud sound but no one came. The mansion seemed empty, and the forest that had once teamed with dangerous life felt dead upon getting close to the mansion where it's said the most dangerous creature in existence resided.
However, despite how empty it seemed there was a feeling that gnawed at the back of her mind. It felt like she was on a stage and eyes were everywhere, surrounding her, judging her and it was coming directly from the mansion. As she looked deeper into the darkness of one of the windows she could have sworn she saw a shift.
Her face twisted in disgust for a second at the sheer fact that someone with perverted eyes was staring at her holy body. She understood that Nuns nowadays despite being holy figures are a fetish for the perverted. She would have to punish the fool and make them repent for their sins.
Without a single hint of fear she walked towards the door to the manor and grabbed the doorknob and twisted it and to her disappointment the door clicked open.
"Typical, locking the front gate but leaving the front door completely exposed. It's a miracle one of those mabeast haven't come and eaten the residents of this manor." Ram said aloud resisting the urge to sigh and entered the manor, and as if on cue the very second both her feet entered the large home the doors slammed shut behind her.
For a moment all she could see was total darkness with only the hints of moonlight showing the red carpet shining upon a stairway leading upwards.
"Human!" A voice suddenly echoed throughout the area, and that caused the nun to snort at just how girlish it truly sounded."You have made a grave mistake in coming here."
"Not many who have entered our home leaves alivei." Another voice, this time sounded as if it belonged to a little girl. "Prepare yourself, I suppose."
With a small sigh escaping her lips the nun crossed her hands together and looked up at the top of the staircase where underneath the pale moonlight the two sources of the voices were revealed. A boy with raven-black hair wearing some kind of fancy suit, and a little girl with drilled hair stood side by side with devilish smiles revealing their pointy fangs.
These are certainly the vampires she had been sent to hunt.
How…disappointing.
"We can see by your clothing, you are a Nun. But there is no god here, only two blood-thirsting, evil creatures who will snuff out your life in an instant!" The man said dramatically, lifting up his hand and turning it into a fist pretending as if he was crushing a heart. "No one will save you from our fury!"
At the end of the man's sentence, the wind began to pick up around them. Easily a play of the power they processed and the display would have caused some men even the bravest of souls to flee. As for the Nun, she didn't show any emotion or signs of movement merely just staring with bored crimson eyes at the two.
"Luckily, we are feeling merciful in fact." The little girl said.
"Yes, we are," The mean-eyed vampire as he dramatically pointed at the nun. "Leave now and we may spare your life, if not we will have n-
"You know I expected this kind of charade from Barusu, but I never expected Lady Beatrice to do such a thing. Truly you are a terrible influence." The Nun suddenly cut off the vampire and both Beatrice and Barusu's eyes widened as they heard this voice many times before, her tongue still as sharp as they last heard but even so they couldn't believe it.
"Ram?!" The two asked in unison, at first confused but a smile formed on their faces as they quickly rushed down the stairs to face the hornless pink-haired Oni.
"Betty honestly can't believe it. It's you in fact." The Great Spirit looked the girl up and down, blinking her butterfly eyes rapidly just to make sure she wasn't seeing things. "Betty didn't expect to see you again so soon."
"Beatrice-sama, it's good to see you in fine health." Ram gave a slight bow at the loli Spirit and then turned to Subaru and stared at him for a moment. "Oh, Barusu. You still haven't died yet, I am honestly quite surprised."
"We haven't talked in over a year and this is how you greet me?!" Subaru screamed.
"It's a natural response anyone would have in seeing you Barusu, Ram almost half-expected you to open up the curtains only to be turned to ash by the sun already."
"Oh that's just a rumor and you know it, vampires don't get killed by the sun. Right Beako?" He turned to his contracted Spirit who nodded at the words.
"It's a strange rumor but it holds no weight, vampires can't get killed by the sun in fact."
"Maybe Ram is mistaken, although-" Ram paused for a moment placing her finger on her lip as she looked at the man before her. "If Ram remembers correctly the last time she visited, she woke up to Barusu screaming in front of an open window. It was a pitiful sight really, he was on the ground crawling to get away from the sun. We had to close the curtain and dragged him into the shade."
"Stop, Stop, stop!" Subaru said his face burning red in embarrassment as he could still remember the horrible details.
The sun's bright yellow rays acting as thousands of little needles hitting his body and lungs, how his leg felt as if it was being held down by a boulder making each step painful when he tried desperately crawl into near by unending headache that followed after it and his skin. Oh how his poor skin felt like it was put to inside a furnace on maximum heat and just left there to cook until he was nothing but bits of charole.
"I couldn't leave my bed for an entire day after that." Subaru shuddered. 'Thankfully Beatrice was there to nurse me back to health.'
"Even after a year apart, Ram is still Ram, still having a sharp tongue," Subaru began a small sigh. "Good to see you again Ram but what are you wearing? You usually wear a maid outfit where ever you go so…"
"Barusu mentioned it previously but as expected even when the answer is in front of him. Barusu still lacks degrees of intelligence very well Ram will tell you. Ram has become the head nurse of one of the Greatest Churches in the entire country, the Church of Roswaal." The Nun said with no shortage of pride in her voice.
"The church... Of Roswaal?" Subaru began to say slowly as he looked at the golden cross on her neck. "Uh Ram-Ram, that's a cross. Don't you mean you follow Jesus Christ or something?"
"Do not be so ignorant Barusu, this cross is merely a gift granted by my lord" Ram corrected, and turned the cross around and it showed an uncanny craving of the face of a clown on it well a clown by the name of Roswaal L Margrave. "I craved his image on the back, the resemblance is perfect."
Subaru merely nodded as he looked at the cross deciding it was best to keep his mouth shut as he didn't want to incur the wrath of a nun by telling her just how ugly the craving was.
"Betty has never heard of a church of Roswaal before." The Great Spirit's eyes narrowed slightly upon hearing the name of the margrave. "Last time Betty checked Roswaal is not a god nor has religious symbolism
"It's a shame with all your knowledge and you spent longer with him than I have you fail to recognize my lord's greatest." Ram sighed, shaking her head in disappointment. "Alas as one would expect of someone who lives and actively interacts with a man like Barusu, truly he is a bad influence on someone like you."
"Hey!" Subaru cried out.
"There is nothing great about that man at all in fact," Beatrice countered. "Betty's Subaru is a better man than he is, he should be the one getting worshiped in fact."
"What?!" Subaru screamed out once more but his cries couldn't be heard as the two women actively ignored his presence in the room and focused only on each other.
"Roswaal-sama is the greatest mage to ever live. His greatness makes that of the holy dragon look like a mere ant, and certainly deserving of praise." Ram countered her and Beatrice's eyes locked in an intense stare with the tension so strong it was as if sparks were flying.
"Oh my god, are you a door-to-door nun?" Subaru asked, his eyes widening in false understanding as Ram kept on talking. "Just going around talking about 'have you heard about our lord and savior Roswaal-sama?"
"Of course not. As the head Nun of the Church of Roswaal-sama I don't go out, I merely put banners on my lord's face and let them come to me." Ram said, flicking her long veil to the side like it was hair.
"How many people usually visit?" Subaru asked.
"One!" She said lifting up a single finger, pride in her voice as if it was the most impressive thing in the entire world.
"Just one, like…one hundred?" Subaru asked nervously to which Ram snorted.
"Oh soon Ram shall spread the glory that is Roswaal-sama to a hundred, and then a thousand but for now Ram is pleased one person opened their hearts to our lord and savior Roswaal-sama."
"Who might that be really In-fact" Subaru and Beatrice unknowingly asked at the same exact time.
"Rem, who comes to visit every now and then" Ram answered with pride.
"Wait, so Rem is a nun for the church of Roswaal?" Subaru asked. Though he shouldn't be too surprised Rem was after all also a maid at the Roswaal manor for a good portion of her life but her devotion to Roswaal was no where near Rams'.
"Unfortunately there is only one Nun, and that is Ram." She sighed, a look of disgust and anger appeared on her face as she stared at Barusu who despite being an immortal vampire stepped back in fear. "Unfortunately Barusu has corrupted my dear sister, and now she is the leader of a cult."
"Corrupt, I don't corrupt anyone!" Subaru defended himself putting his hands up in an X. "Also that's impossible, doesn't Rem hate cults?"
"Ram doesn't wish to talk about it, any more than she already has.." Ram sighed, already exhausted at the thought path her sister had chosen. She only wished that soon she will free her sister from the control that Baursu had on her and free her from the dreaded Cult that had claimed her.
In fact, all Ram could wonder about at the moment was what is her sister currently doing.
As the mean-eyed vampire and the head Nun of the Church of Roswaal spoke amongst one another. Inside one of the most bustling cities in all of Luginica a massive church bell began to toll. Iits light dinging echoing throughout the streets and everyone from playful children, busy businessmen and women, and even the engines of some cars fell silent.
Each and every single one of them knew what the dinging of the church bell told, causing some like an ax-wielding man to snarl in disgust while others smiled with some even going towards the sound of the bell and being greeted with a wondrous sight.
Beyond a black gate, a Church made out of the colors black, white, and orange could be seen being illuminated by mana crystals underground. Workers inside the church are seen cutting the grass, and cleaning the orange marble road pavement. Other workers seem to be putting the final touches on a strange glass painting of a man with spiky hair wearing a tracksuit. In fact, multiple glass paintings of this same exact man in a strange pose littered around each glass window of the church but it didn't seem to detour anyone as more people slowly began to walk through the gate door and waited for service to start
Inside the church, a lone figure could be seen kneeling before an altar that had a bright orange star carved in the center of it, and just behind it was a glorious painting of the raven-haired man from the windows.
The lone figure was a woman dressed head to toe in a typical nun's outfit that covered most of her features, but even the black dress and white veil couldn't hide what made her stand out amongst the crowd. Her sky-blue eyes looked down at a photo of her hero, her blue hair calmly swaying in the small amount of wind that managed to get inside the room.
"Oh Subaru-kun, if only you could be here with us today." The Nun known as Rem sighed feeling a small pain in her heart as she looked at the photo of her hero. "Nee-sama is so lucky she gets to go visit Subaru-kun."
The Nun said with a small sigh of disappointment as she remembered clearly the interaction she and her sister had before Ram had left for her hero's homes. Rem couldn't understand why but Ram was very pushy about her having to stay in the city when she could have gone to see her beloved, but oh well. Sissy knows best and tonight was a big night any way she needed to prepare.
"Oh Sister Rem, you're here as always." Suddenly a voice spoke as Rem could hear the door open almost immediately she stood up wiped any dust she may have gotten on her outfit and placed the picture of her hero back on the altar, and turned towards the source of the voice.
The person who entered was a fair woman, she covered herself in a nun outfit of black and orange the same colors as the man she admired. She towered above Rem by a few inches in height, and though a veil of shadows covered her Rem could clearly see her description. She had long silver hair and amethyst-colored eyes.
She had served someone with the same description but this was not the same person, no while they looked alike one was a kind-hearted naive woman, and the person in front of her was a witch! In another lifetime she would have attacked this woman but through the year they spent together, building and growing this community she wouldn't dare to bring harm upon someone she considered another sister.
"Sister Satella." The Blue-haired nun bowed her head politely at the presence of the feared and dangerous Witch. "Rem is pleased you are in good health, and that you could help participate in another sermon.
"I would never miss a sermon, Sister Rem. This is one of the only places where I could share the greatness of my beloved freely, it's my duty as founder of the Cult of Subaru." The Witch of Envy said with a smile returning the small bow. "It would be so much better if I could hold onto him right now, and whisper it into his ears."
"If only Rem could get to see him peacefully sleep like a baby inside his coffin again." The Nun shamelessly admitted to the other who giggled and nodded her head in agreement.
"He's already adorable but our beloved when he sleeps is extra adorable." Satella fully heartily agreed, placing her hand on her rapidly beating heart as her mind began to flood with so many memories of Subaru's sleeping face.
"It's unknightly for me to say such a thing, but as always when I am here. I am not a knight." Another voice appeared also walking into the room. This time belonging to a man with violet hair and yellow eyes dressed in a black button-up priest outfit."Though I understand what you two are talking about, it is inappropriate to be talking like that even if said person is not here."
"Brother Julius." The two Nuns greeted the priest with a small bow.
" Sister Satella, Sister Rem. It's a pleasure for me to see you both in good health, but please my name is not Julius. Julius is a respected member of the Luginican Police force, I am Juli a humble priest." The knight said with utmost seriousness and confidence and his words caused both of the nuns to begin to giggle.
"Brother Juliu- forgive me brother Juli" Satella corrected herself pausing for a moment and holding her hand to her mouth in a desperate attempt to stop her childish giggles due to Julius's poor choice of a nickname."We are glad to have you here as always, right on time as always."
"Rem heard you are giving the opening speech." The Oni clapped her hands as a bright smile formed on her face. "You speak with such elegance especially when it comes to Subaru-kun."
"A true shame Subaru isn't here to hear Brother's Julius elegant speech." Satella sighed slightly disappointed at how her beloved was probably still sleeping in his coffin. She could still feel him due to their connection but oh it wasn't the same as holding him close and whispering words of love into his ears, one day when they meet again she will do so.
"I prefer it to be that way." The Priest responded a smile forming on his own face. "If Subaru heard me giving him praise, it would damage my image"
"He'll probably go full Tsundere." Satella again with all her might resisted the urge to laugh aloud as her mind flooded with the holy grail that was how Subaru acted and looked when he was embarrassed, especially when it came to interacting with Julius.
"Subaru-kun always gets so defensive when it comes to Brother Juli, but his false hatred for him is honestly cute Rem admits." The Blue oni responded holding her own hand to her lips and resisting the urge to chuckle loudly herself all the while Julius could do nothing more than look embarrassed his knightly form crumbling every second but that didn't last for long as for he was the greatest of knights, he quickly recovered and straightened himself once again.
"It's embarrassing to hear such truths, but I will push it to the side. It's almost time for the sermon." Julius said motioning towards the entrance to the church which was already slowly beginning to open and revealed what seemed like thousands of people all standing outside the large church all waiting and looking excited to get inside, in fact, it looked like they were about to rush in at any moment besides a select few.
From the crowd, Rem, Julius, And Satella could make out faint familiar faces and hairstyles. One was a handsome fiery head knight dressed in white and his radiance was almost that of an angel, another was a woman that looked similar to Satella standing next to a blond boy with a white scar in the shape of an X on her forehead and a merchant with a feather cap.
"It seems our friends also came to visit." Rem said looking on in shock and the smile already present on her face, but there was an almost bitter feeling in that joy. As she could only wish two more additions could be there, one being her sister who left on a mission and the other being her beloved. For now, she could only wish them well.
"Alright, let's get this sermon started, and let's all praise Subaru!" Satella pointed forward and stepped up to the alter.
"Yes Sister Satella." The other two said in unison and followed. The cult of Subaru's weekly sermons and meetings was about to begin….
"Hikachu/Ahachoo!" Both Ram and Subaru sneezed in unison, their once straight posture crumbling as Beatrice could feel their body heat increase suddenly from where she stood.
"S-Subaru are you sick, do you need to go to bed I wonder?" The Great Spirit asked her contractor and there was clear worry in her butterfly as she gripped her contractor's arm as tight as she could. "Does Betty need to get Medicine?"
"It's nothing Beako, nothing," Subaru answered as he rubbed the bottom of his nose. "I just had Fujiwara moment."
"Someone talked about praising Barusu somewhere, Ram feels automatically Ill," Ram followed up placing a hand on her head and looking like she was practically going to faint.
"That's not how it's supposed to work! Shouldn't you sneeze when someone talks about you?!" Subaru cried out while Ram herself seemed to attempt to recover from this sudden sickness. "Besides who would randomly start praising me?"
"Ram has a few ideas but Ram will not say." The hornless oni muttered shuttering in what seemed like disgust as if to bruise the already hurt man's ego even more. "Even she has no idea why there are those who would praise a useless man like you Barusu, all you do is stay here and sleep in a Casket."
"I know I've been a shut-in most of my life, but It's not all I do is stay locked inside my casket sleeping!" He countered but all he was met with was a blank stare from the head Nun of the church of Roswaal as if saying 'Ram doesn't believe that for a second.' "it's true, tell her Beako!"
"Exactly in fact." Beatrice followed up by taking a step forward in her contractor's defense. "Betty's contractor has been extremely proactive."
"Really, what have you been doing for the past week?" Ram asked with a snort, and that immediately put Subaru to silence, and his silence and the quick worried and shameful glances between him in his great spirit told her everything she needed to know.
"Heh." She said with a smug smile and a shrug ot her shoulders relishing in her victory over Subaru for what seemed like the 100th time now.
"Instead of crushing what little is of my contractor's pride, how about you tell us what you're doing here I suppose!" Beatrice demanded stomping her feet on the ground
"Oh right, it seems like being in the same room as Barusu's stupidity and forgetfulness has affected even ram somehow. Forgive me Beatrice-sama" Ram's said with a small apologetic bow before slowly turning to the mean-eyed vampire her gaze intensifying sending a shiver down his bones. "Barusu. I need you to die."
"..."
"..."
"Wha-"
Was all the vampire could say as in a flash he was staring down the golden barrel of a gun. The Nun's finger directly on the trigger and centimeters away from pulling it. Even with the strength, speed, and heighten senses that were given to him at birth thanks to his vampiric heritage Subaru couldn't react in time as slowly she began to squeeze the trigger for his own power was nothing more than a spec to the reincarnation of the Oni-god.
Time seemingly begin to slow, his life flashing before his eyes and his face contorted in what seemed to be in his last moment a mixture of fear and betrayal. There was nothing he could do, nothing he could say as all his mind could do was scramble singles to his body to defend himself. The best his feeble mind could do was order his body to move back, just a single step back but that single step saved his life.
Almost immediately powerful gust of wind that would make a tornado look weaker in comparison blasted in his direction, directly hitting the pink-haired Nun and missing him by only a centimeter. The sheer force of the impact was strong enough to shatter bones as it picked up and blasted dust across the lower floor of the mansion and scattering it across every direction.
While Ram herself was blasted over to the left, her body was mere inches away from colliding with a wooden black door off to the side but before that could happen she reached out her hand whispering her own magic incantation her hands glow a bright white light, and a small gust of wind hit the door and pushed her body in the air.
With athletics, Subaru had never seen before she twisted her body in the air and landed a few feet away from Subaru perfectly on two legs with her posture being that of perfection from her years of experience as a maid despite her own laziness.
"What are you doing in fact!" Beatrice demanded to know, now standing directly protectively in front of her petrified contractor.
"Ram is here for mere pest extermination Beatrice-sama." Ram spoke as she lifted back her handgun aiming it directly at the head of the terrified Subaru. "Ram is only after Barusu at the moment.
"Wait, wait wait! What do you mean pest extermination, have you finally gotten sick of me after all those years?!"
"While it is true Ram is sick and tired of Barusu's mannerisms that is not why Ram is here. Ram has been hired to take care of the vampire in this mansion and she will fulfill her duty." She stated bluntly in turn Beatrice to summon up 10 powerful yin crystals all pointed in Ram's direction.
Each one is dangerous in its own right as just a simple scratch could defeat an enemy. The Great Spirit like Subaru looked betrayed, but unlike Subaru, she had an angry glint in her eyes.
"L-let's talk about this Nee-san, maybe they got the wrong vampire. There's a lot of vampires like me with black hair and mean eyes." He responded innocently trying to appease her but her blank stare was evident as she didn't believe a word he said.. "Ok ok, I've been to the city every once in a while but I didn't really cause problems, you don't have to kill me! What are they even offering you in return for my death?!"
"Ram was told she would get a golden statue of Roswaal-sama if she gets the job done." She responded this time with a hint of determination in her voice sounding as if this prize of hers was more important than life itself. "Normally Ram would be merciful, but unfortunately this prize is more important. Know this is nothing personal Baursu and take comfort that your death will contribute to something greater."
"You're going to kill my contractor for the sake of a golden Statue of the Clown, In fact!" Beatrice screamed her aura exploding and mana swirled around every corner of the room.
"Correct," Ram answered unflinchingly at the display of magical prowess. "Ram will give a merciful death, Ram is not heartless after all."
"I actually rather not die at all!" Subaru quickly responded trying his best to force down the nerves and forced a smile. "Come on Ram, surely that statue of Ros-chi can't be that important, I mean maybe I could buy a statue If you want!"
"Unfortunately Barusu this golden statue of Roswaal-sama is 60 feet tall" Ram paused for a moment almost seemingly breathless as she reminded herself of the prize she is fighting for, while the Oni was usually good at hiding her real emotions behind a stone wall and snarky jokes. When it came to Roswaal it was obvious her feelings even the mention of the margrave's name spark something in her and Subaru could see clearly as the day she was practically drooling at the thought of the 60 feet tall statue.
"A 60 feet tall golden statue of Ros-chi." he repeated the words of the Oni his fear being quickly replaced by pure confusion.
"A statue of the clown does not mean you can go ahead and kill my contractor In fact."
"Unfortunately Beatrice-sama, The statue of my lord is more important than the life of Barusu," Ram responded to the angry Great Spirit with a look of pity in her eyes, before slowly turning her gaze once again at Subaru. "Hold still Barusu the more you resist, the worst it will be. At the very least Ram wouldn't wish for Beatrice-sama to clean up what's left of you completely scattered around the house."
With those words, the Pink-haired maid without any hesitation, pity, or mercy unloaded her revolver. Each shot was precise and her hands didn't even seem to shake at the recoil of the weapon in turn Beatrice extended her hands and the ten yin crystals around her quickly rushed Ram.
Five of the bullets and crystals connected and much to the great spirit's surprise instead of the ammunition merely being crushed under the crystals the weapon seemed stronger than she had expected. As the crystals and bullet made contact an invisible gust of wind erupted from the ammunition and in an instant, both the bullets and five of the crystals disappeared. As for the rest of the five crystals, they were making their way toward the pink-haired nun who effortlessly dodged like a ballerina who couldn't dance.
Meanwhile, The sixth and final bullet that Ram fired made its way toward the poor vampire's head, but luckily whether his actions were the result of panic or his quick thinking he quickly transformed himself into a bat. The bullet barely missed his tiny body as he flapped his wings as much as he could.
"I almost expected Barusu to turn into a mouse, it would make a suitable look for a man like him," Ram replied giving a condescending looking as she slowly begins to reload her weapon.
Giving Subaru enough time to begin to reply back with a series of panic screeches that sounded almost like squeaks at Ram, as his eyes motioned between her and Beatrice.
To Ram Barusu's screeching was nothing but incomprehensible nonsense. Beatrice meanwhile gave a small little nod with each squeak that exited his bat mouth, a look of understanding in her eyes came as well.
"Barusu, stop with the noise. Ram will be forced to retract her mercy of a quick death turn yourself back into a human and die with whatever dignity you have left. Despite you having almost none in the first place" Ram said as cocked back the hammer of her six shooter.
Subaru replied with a small screech of panic once more and began to quickly fly away into the nearest room that was clouded by darkness, and as the Nun was about to stop him and pulled the trigger a gust of wind from the great spirit knocked her right off her feet. But Ram got up almost instantly, readying herself as she expected the great spirit to follow up her assault with a series of deadly Yin crystals but there was no need.
Instead, the second of time the Great Spirit bought for herself was spent turning into a bat and following after her contractor disappearing into the darkness as well. Leaving the head nun of the church of Roswaal alone in the now messy entrance hallway, littered with scattered dust and fragments of Yin crystals slowly dissolving.
With a sigh, she begins to pat down her holy outfit and took a glance at the entrance door a frown slowly beginning to form once again. "Another case of pest control." She whispered and begin to follow the two vampires into the next room.
It was going to be a long night for all of them.
He could hear her.
Thanks to his bat form amplifying his already incrieble hearing by 100. He could hear almost everything, the small sound of wind crashing against his window. The squeaking of mice somewhere inside the darkest and forgotten corners of the mansion, and even the rustling of leaves outside his home.
But more importantly, above all else, he could hear Ram beginning her search to find him. Her steps were light and practically silent even as she left the carpeted hallway. It was like those horror movies where the survivors attempt to hide from the killer but don't know where and the villain could pop out of any corner and kill them.
Most of the time in those scenarios the person hiding is a normal human being just getting caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, with a creature stronger, faster, and smarter than them at any turn. Well his scenario wasn't far off from that of a standard horror protagonist, it was a twist of fate that the "vampire" a creature of darkness is the one hiding away from a Nun.
He couldn't help but suppress a shutter as the footsteps seemed to grow closer, and closer. His heart was practically pounding against his chest, but slowly he began to calm himself as he could hear the sound of flapping wings coming towards him at a rapid rate.
.
"Subaru, Subaru!" he heard Beatrice's voice say in thick squeaks, as she flew close to him in her bat form and also began to hang upside down next to her contractor. "Are you unharmed, I wonder?"
"Yeah, I'm fine Beako. Close call, when did Ram get a handgun and when did she learn how to aim it well?" Subaru muttered.
"Betty does not know, but Betty does not care. She's trying to kill you, in fact. Not is the time to dwell on such a thing."
"I know, i know. It's a shock that Ram became a Nun, but a monster hunter Nun? I just can't believe it, she's like Alucard." He muttered there was a bit of awe in his voice despite the deadly situation.
"Alucard?" Beatrice turned to him, raising an eyebrow. "Alucard is a vampire who hunts other vampires in fact. Ram is a demon Nun, wouldn't she be more akin to someone else I wonder?"
"Ah, that is where you are wrong Beako. Alucard actually sees himself as a monster, not just a vampire. So he's a monster, who hunts down monsters, and given how Ram is an Oni it's safe to make that compassion." Subaru nods his head slowly before his eyes shoot wide open. "D-don't tell her I compared her to a monster."
"That doesn't matter in fact, she's still trying to kill you for a statute in fact!"
"You're house is filthy Barusu." Suddenly at the sudden appearance of the Oni's voice in their general direction, both the spirit and contractor immediately fell silent, taking a few extra seconds to move further into the darkness where they hoped they could remain hidden and it was a good thing they did. Almost instantly as they did this they could hear the creaking of a door opening, followed by footsteps, and Ram's voice once again pierced the silent air.
"Ram had expected you're home to be in a filthy state now that you couldn't abuse Ram's overwhelmed sister for free labor, but unfortunately Ram's low standards have been lowered even more."
'Like you don't rely on Rem, and Frederica to clean the entire Roswaal manor on their own while you sit back and watch.' Subaru couldn't help but snort at the thought that out of all people Ram could be the one judging him of all people when it came to cleaning, she should be the last one.
Sure at the beginning when he and his parents visited the Roswaal manor for a certain period of time, his domestic skills weren't exactly the best but he had greatly improved over the course. He had used that experience for his own home, and while Rem has been a great help both in the Roswaal manor and in his own mansion he wasn't really the type of guy to burden someone with the task of cleaning an entire mansion on their own.
Ram on the other hand was constant for one thing, and that was somehow always messing up when it came to cleaning itself. He really would never forget when he, Roswwall, Rem, and his parents all went out for one evening, Frederica had taken a sick day and so it was all up to Ram to take care of the manor.
The horror they saw that night. The lushes bushes carefully maintained in beautiful sculptures were in disarray, the clean kitchen was messy with broken plates,a mess of flour and powder across the floors,
'it took hours to clean her mess.' He shuttered as his hands still felt sore. 'But knowing her if she does get that Roswaal statue, she would polish it every day to the point where it'll be like a mini sun.'
"Subaru, what should we do I wonder?." Beatrice suddenly spoke knocking him out of his thoughts that were arguably a pleasant time, a time that was when Ram didn't try to kill him. A pleasant time, a time that clearly wasn't now.
"I don't want to hurt her, not that I could. As lazy as she is, she's crazy strong and she has a gun." He begins to mutter, placing his wing on his chin. "Maybe we could use Shamack to blind her, and follow up with Murak so she's light enough to pick up, and we just throw her in one of the rooms. Maybe fly away and get Rem to pick her up."
"That's possible but all the doors are wooden in fact, she could just break out easily" The great spirit replied causing Subaru to click his teeth. Even with Ram killing him, he didn't want to hurt her, there has to be a way this can resolve peacefully!
"Maybe w-"
He stopped midsentence as his heart almost leaped out of his heart while his head and body turned towards a sound. It was a small sound from the deepest corner of the room, it was the small squeaking of mice that stared up at the two vampires in bat form as it was slowly walking by.
However, the very second the mice saw its natural predator's eyes meet his almost instantly it ran as far as it could, diving underneath a drawer to hide from being eaten but whatever fear the mice might have had for Subaru in this form. Subaru's fear tripled that as only one word came into his mind clairvoyance.
"Oh no," He whispered in horror. "Beako, fly as far as you can!"
He screamed and the great spirit didn't even need to ask why as almost instantly they unhooked themselves from the ceiling and began to fly in a random direction. Just in time not even a second later the smell of gunpowder filled the air and a bullet hole pierced the ceiling they were taking refuge in.
"Come on, do you know how hard it will be to fix a bullet hole in the ceiling!" Subaru screamed out his dismay just as the one responsible entered their area'
"Ram honestly can't tell if she prefers you in this form compared to your normal self Barusu. On one hand Ram doesn't know what nonsense you're spewing on the other hand, you are a lot uglier than before, not that you were attractive to begin with." She spat out in a relentless fury of words that could break down the confidence of even the most sure of men, and once again took aim.
"Shamack!" Beatrice screamed behind her, turning back into her human form as darkness completely enwrapped the two, and only the two. While shamack is able to remove the sight, and senses of those in a large area, it can be condensed into a small bubble-like dark spot.
With the small opening that had been given to him Subaru did not want to waste a single second, and with his wings swooped down getting close to the point where his small body was mere inches away from the small sphere of darkness before quickly turning back into his human form. He reached into the ball and instantly pulled the great spirit out of the sphere launching her high in the air, and with her light body she slowly fell back into his waiting arms.
Once Beatrice was in his arms Subaru quickly adjusted almost swinging the Great Spirit over his shoulder to allow her to see what was behind him, and with his vampiric heritage he clenched the muscles in his legs and he ran for it. Just in time a gust of wind and the dark mana of Shamack dissipated, and quickly the hornless oni that was trapped in darkness was free.
"Countless hours of running around my room don't fail me now!" Subaru cried out already feeling Ram's gaze burn from behind him, as he continued to pick up speed.
"I got your back I suppose!" Beatrice cried out stretching out her hand and aiming at the Oni, preparing to fire if the oni tried anyway, and for a second Ram in fact did nothing.
She looked at the ever-distancing Vampire and his Great Spirit a bored stare.
Taking one final glance as the distance between the three of them kept on closing, Ram sighed, and with one step she rushed forward already closing half the distance in less than a second and begin to sprint. Each of her steps leaves small cracks on the floor.
"She's already catching up In fact!" Beatrice screamed stretching out her hands and firing three separate mana crystals at the Oni, who effortlessly with wind magic broke them apart one by one not even dwindling her speed for a second. "Closing in fast, in fact!"
"I know she's a demon, but that speed is just ridiculous!" Subaru screamed out trying his best to run even faster but damn it his legs couldn't give anymore, and he had forgotten to do his morning exercise. "At this rate, I'm going to get a leg cramp."
Even with the horrifying prospect of leg cramps, Subaru kept on running. Making sharp turns on into nearby hallways, allowing him to narrowly avoid sharp-bladed winds, and wind infused bullets and when he couldn't Beatrice would buy some time either blasting mana crystals at her or using some magic to stop the momentum of the bullet before reaching Subaru making it fall to the ground.
They were doing well for all things given especially considering they were going against the might of the reincarnation of the oni-god. Every second Subaru breathed was a second that she could not claim the treasure that was the 60-foot golden Roswaal statue but—
"We can't keep this up forever. At this rate we're going to have to leave the mansion and be subjected to all manner of mabeast of the forest!" Subaru shivered, as even if they turned into bats and flew away Ram would probably very easily shoot them down. "Alright, I got an idea! Beako-"
"It is a rash and stupid decision In fact, but Betty will allow it. Betty will not enjoy it, so you better reward her if it works I suppose!" The great spirit cut him off, answering and already knowing what he was going to do without even as so much as a second thought, and that caused Subaru to smile.
"You're the greatest Beako!" Subaru screamed out to the heavens, causing a faint smile to appear on the great spirit's face before it quickly turned to one of great annoyance as she couldn't help but sigh knowing all too well that was next.
For a few more seconds Subaru ran as fast as he could until the entrance of the manor was in sight, at any moment he could have just burst through and run into the forest and a part of Ram expected that. Of course, it was common sense for anyone being chased to go into a more open area with many twists and turns to lose their attacker, even if it meant running into a dangerous forest but there was one thing most people forget when it comes to Natsuki Subaru. Something even Ram forgets at times even though she mentions it all the time.
Subaru especially when coming up with different solutions to problems had anything but common sense.
"HEAVE-" Subaru began to scream grabbing Beatrice by her legs and spun on his heel holding up the light Great Spirit like a baseball bat. "HO" He finished and tossed the small little girl in black at great speeds directly at the Oni who immediately stopped in her tracks.
Her crimson eyes widened in shock for a split second as the great spirit was flying through the air, her arms outstretched as if asking Ram to catch her, and in turn, Ram seemingly looked like she was getting prepared to catch her.
Unfortunately, that wasn't the case as the great spirit's body was a millisecond from connecting with Ram, the head Nun of the Roswaal Church side stepped to the side. Allowing the Great Spirit to fly right through the empty space where her body once be, and fly into one of the dark rooms and a loud thud could be heard all across the mansion.
"BEAKO!" Ram could hear Subaru scream out in a panic voice, but she didn't even take the time to look at him. Instead of just looking at the room where the great spirit had entered.
"Ram knew Barusu would stoop low to save his own hide but this is as low as it can get." Ram began to say her tone full of disappointment. "Ram will have to call child-protective services as Barusu is clearly irresponsible to take care of one."
"Why didn't you catch her!" Subaru screamed out, tempted to run past Ram and check on his Beako but his eyes drifted towards the gun still in her hand and he forced himself to stay in place. Glancing back and forth between the demon Nun, and the dark hallway where Beatrice landed.
"Why did Barusu decide it was a good idea to throw her?" Ram raised an eyebrow. "Do you really believe throwing people at a problem will solve it, that they will just stop whatever they're doing to catch someone?"
"Well, I was hoping you had a heart!"
"Ram has a kind merciful heart that others wish they could have." She said proudly placing a hand over her flat chest. "It's Barusu's fault for being so careless and neglectful, to his own contracted Spirit no doubt shameful, truly shameful!"
"You're a Nun Ram, Nun's usually-" Subaru staggered his words for a few moments. "Nuns are supposed to be kind, religious, figures who would drop everything at a moment's notice when someone is in danger!"
"That is an idiotic misconception Barusu. Unless it's Roswaal-sama or Sister, Ram would happily let someone fall off a cliff." She said with an almost disgusted look before it changed to that of curiosity. "Still Ram can't help but wonder what was even thinking?"
"Well that plan was for you to hold catch Beatrice and in a moment, and in that moment you were caught off guard I could get the jump on you, and restrained you so Beako cou-
"Disgusting absolutely disgusting," Ram cut Subaru off her face twisted in a mixture of both disgust and anger that made the creature of the night feel small and worthless in comparison. "You wished to restrain Ram, so you may have your way with her."
"T-that's not what I mean!" Subaru cried out but it wouldn't matter as menacingly the Oni held up her gun directly to his face and began walking forward;
"Barusu you have committed many sins, but for an attempt to corrupt an innocent Nun only death shall suffice, may Roswaal-sama be merciful."
"You were already going to kill me before then anyway!" Subaru said his eyes glancing to the side hoping to see the exit to his mansion only for his heart to sink as he realized he walked too far, and now his back was against a soft black stone wall. With the Oni god of death closing in.
"Because Ram is merciful you are forgiven of your sins Barusu" She spoke softly as he placed the gun directly on his chest, even as Subaru placed both his hands up in an attempt to surrender. "Know your death is for a good cause. Ram will even crave your name to honor your sacrifice to Roswaal-sama."
Subaru could do nothing but close his eyes, his dead heart beating rapidly waiting for the finishing blow that soon be fired. He knows that nothing would stop the oni god of death from performing his duties and he was all out of tricks, and Beatrice was most likely unconscious so he could do nothing but wait for the finishing blow. His long life of 18 years was coming to an end.
However, in place of the gunshot that was supposed to end his life, another sound echoed throughout the dark mansion. It was the sound of a large door slamming open followed by multiple heavy footsteps on the ground seemingly all rushing inside as one.
Those sounds made Subaru open his eyes and the first thing he saw was the barrel of Ram's gun pressed against his chest, but her head was turned away from him as something else caught her attention, and although Subaru could use this time to subdue the Nun. His eye couldn't help but shift to the sight in front of him and was greeted with his large wooden door wide open, moonlight piercing the dark halls and shined upon three individuals.
In the middle was a skinny man with blue hair and a chain around his neck with the bottom of the chain seemingly holding up a cross and wearing full leather, to his left was the smallest of the three barely reaching the waist of the skinny man having a bowl-cut also wearing black leather all around his body, and lastly the largest and most muscular of the three was to the right, holding up what seemed to be a heavy crossbow already preloaded with a stake.
The three's eyes were stern as they began to scan. there was an aura of pure determination surrounding them as if telling the world they were ready for anything, but quickly that changed instantly when the large door behind him, slammed shut on his own. Shrouding the men in darkness every one of them begins to scream in unison.
Thanks to his dark vision Subaru was able to see the biggest of the three jump back and drop his large crossbow on the large, The weapon going off an arrow flew off into a random room as the big man scrambled to pick up the large weapon.
'Automatic closing door' Subaru couldn't help but snort trying his best to hold back a chuckle at the by-product of the combination of his creativity and Beatrice's magic and knowledge. The door served only one purpose and that was to scare the daylights of everyone who entered the mansion for the first time, and he would always be there and prepared to see some great reactions.
Otto was the best one so far as his screams echoed throughout the mansion and he immediately fell to the ground as his fight or flight senses were too overloaded to allow him to move. It was a shame Subaru didn't have a camera back then as he would have taken a picture or filmed the entire thing
Garfiel was a close second because as much as the glorious tiger wanted to put up a brave face every now and then, even the bravest felt fear often, and he jumped high at the sound of the doors closing. It was hilarious, the only problem was with his cat-like reflexes and monstrous strength it took them several hours to get him unstuck from the ceiling.
He was still glad that even the automatic closing door still had an effect on people…well other than Ram.
"Why did they make us go in first." The skinniest of the three complained, trembling as he reached into his back pocket and removed two rusty curved blades. "I-I know we're hunters now but I really don't want to be a vampire's late-night snack."
"It's so dark in here." The smallest one begins to speak his voice trembling whilst he retrieved a small wooden stake from his back pocket with one hand, and held the cross tightly around his neck with the other. "I-if there really is a vampire in here we'll be eaten alive, they'll find our corpses shriveled up like raisins!"
"S-stay calm. We'll just stay here for a good five minutes, and we'll just say that no one is there!" The Biggest of the three spoke up as he reloaded the weapon that misfired trying his best to calm his team, whilst dealing with his trembling body.
"Good idea, but someone checks that door to make sure it's open." The lankly one spoke next and by his command, the shortest of the three slowly backed away not taking his eyes off his allies for a few moments, until his back rested on the door. As quickly and silently as he could he pulled on the door handles hoping the doors would open, but much to his fear the doors remained shut.
Even when the hunter used both his hands and pushed with all the might his tiny body could muster, the only sound the door made was a small thud as if it was closing in on itself despite being pushed in the opposite direction. Another trick Subaru and Beatrice came up with, a trick he unfortunately never got to see how effective it was on people until today and frankly, he couldn't help and it made him smile even wider than before.
"We're trapped! We're so dead!" The smallest exclaimed almost screaming to the top of his lungs, but was put to silence as in unison his two fellow hunters put a finger to their lips and said- "Shhhh"
And that instantly caused him to fall silent, after all, they have no idea what kind of creature of the night could have taken up residence inside this long-forgotten mansion in the middle of a dark forest full of dangerous mabeasts guarding it.
"Lets to hope no one is in here, or the other hunters break down the door after we don't report back." The biggest whispered silently his body tensed as they all had their backs against the door, ready for anything despite looking like they could run at the slightest signs of danger.
"Other-hunters…" Subaru whispered quietly as he could hear from the outside thousands of footsteps crushing the grass beneath their feet, the faint sounds of a knife craving a stake, and the faint smell of silver and gunpowder.
'Oh no, oh no! Are they really all after me because I made a scene at the movie theater that one time, man Otto was right! I shouldn't have used my vampiric abilities to scare people when watching that new Dracula movie! Damn it Subaru you rea-'
"Barusu." Ram snapped him out of his thoughts. Her tone was a lot more silent, and her gaze never left the three hunters who invaded his home, in fact even the gun she held against his chest was lowered.
"Ram?"
"If you wish to live throw me in their direction."
"Wait, but why-" Subaru was caught off by her sharp glance and meekly he merely nodded, whispering out an 'ok' before lifting her up with ease.
"Barusu can you still do that idiotic thing where you can make your eyes glow red?"
"Uh yeah."
"Good do that, and walk over in my direction after three seconds and act all high and mighty like you attempted to do when Ram first entered the mansion, although make sure your below-average acting is actually decent this time around."
"Alright, alright!" Subaru tried his best to whisper whilst expressing his dismay but a small smirk came across his face, and relief overcame his heart as with the given the situation the Nun's true intentions were revealed. "I know it's best to make everything believable but you could at least tell me beforehand, we could have set this entire thing up better."
"No. Ram was genuinely going to kill Barusu for the 60ft statue of Roswaal-sama." Ram replied back in almost an instant "Now get this over with before Ram's merciful soul changes her mind"
"Saying you have a merciful soul does not match your words right now!" Subaru replied back silently before letting out a loud sigh and tossing Ram over his shoulder, he grabbed both her legs and- "Three, two, one! Ram throw!"
Gaston, Rachins, Camberley. Also known commonly by everyone under the sun for some reason as Ton, Chin, and Kan did not know what they were getting into. Before all this, they were doing what they usually do and stood in the middle of a dark alleyway waiting for some unfortunate soul to walk by and they would rob them quick and easy but lately, they haven't had any luck.
One is the fact that in this modern day and age and with countless movies, and TV shows people have grown weary of any dark small narrow alleyways, and even if someone was dumb or desperate enough to walk their alleyway everyone they had faced so far had not been the best. Each and every single time they would get their asses kicked, or the strongest person in the entire country the sword saint would magically appear and they had to scatter.
The worst one by far was a noble-looking woman with orange hair and blood-red eyes. She seemingly willingly walked into the dark alleyway with a bored expression and glanced at them as if they were nothing more than specs of dirt.
Oh, they could still remember the incident like it was yesterday. The way she effortlessly dismantled them with her words, revealing their faults, insecurities, and shame to the world as if she knew them on a personal level was just an experience that was something impossible to describe
And once she finished revealing their sins everything went black after that in all honesty. Later on, they would awaken in Doctor Argyle's hospital, head and body covered in cast and the best healing in the entire world They were generally shocked they were even still alive and made a full recovery at that but mentally they were never the same.
One thing was for sure, they were never going back to that dark alleyway. Even if the odds of encountering that devil of a woman were slim to none they weren't taking any chances, but luckily for them or unluckily given their current circumstance. A job offer came up, one where anyone, even petty criminals like them could make decent cash for one mission. That mission, join up a band of hunters and investigate a "vampire" who ruined movie night at a theater. They each would get a good helping of gold, whether the mission was a success or failure and at the time it was a good idea but now not so much.
Sitting in complete and utter darkness with the moonlight only shining down on the staircase leading to the next floor, Ton, Chin, and Khan remained with their backs against the door. They stood in perfect silence, their gazes never leaving the stairway waiting for something, anything to happen but when seconds felt like minutes passed by and there seemed to not be even a shift in the wind.
After a few more seconds one of them gained the courage to speak.
"I-it seems to be really quiet." Ton spoke up his silent voice piercing the chamber of silence they've made for themselves. "Maybe no one really is home, there's a backdoor here somewhere."
"Even if that's true I don't want to risk it. The vampire might appear in the dark and pick us off one by one." Kan shivered at the mere prospect of entering further into the dark lavish mansion, he cursed himself and the two other former criminals for not having brought any flashlights or the standard-issued oil lanterns the hunter guild had for some reason. Which is weird as why oil lanterns?
They had the money to obviously afford to pay them and a couple of hundred other people but lanterns? Either way that was the least of their concerns.
"Let's just stay here for a few more mo-" Suddenly as the last and final member of the three began to speak he was cut off as something else entirely caught their attention. They were first alerted by what seemed to be a small shriek that lasted less than half a second just enough for all of them to turn in its direction, weapons raised and clutched tightly with sweat palms.
The sight the three were met with was a blur of black and pink rushing rapidly passed them with its body slamming into the nearby wall, cracking the structure, and leaving bits of pieces of wood on the floor, and soon her body hit the ground. A small groan of pain seemed to escape the figure's lips as she raised her head up and glared angrily at the dark hallway she came from.
Her lips moved seemingly muttering curses under her breath but they couldn't hear exactly what she said as their hearts were pounding against their ears at the sudden appearance of the Nun and it only grew worse as it soon dawned on one of them who it truly was.
"T-that's Ram Hellsing!" Chin screamed in horror as he looked at the fallen nun."The demon who hunts monsters! It's said that no creature, mabeast, or otherwise has ever survived an encounter with her and she would always leave without a scratch. She's the only person in the world to match the power and speed of the Sword Saint."
Yet to see her in such a state being thrown from the darkness and into the moon's light as if she was nothing more than a toy tall caused Chin to step back, his already sweaty palms becoming worse as he could practically feel the grip of his blade slipping.
"That's her?! The legendary hunter herself, here! I-I-I thought she said she wasn't going to deal in such matters and focus on her failing church." Ton spoke up next his shock being quickly replaced with fear as the demon nun glared at him with furious crimson eyes as soon as the words "failing church" left his lips and he quickly changed the topic. "Miss Ram Hellsing, are you ok? What's done this to you?"
"Wait her last name is Hellsing?!" A shiver went down the three's spine as slowly their gaze shifted away from the injured nun and over to the right. In the darkness, they could see two glowing red circles pierce through moving closer towards them causing each of the hunters to step back."I thought she didn't have a last name. I know it would be weird for a mother and father to just name their child Ram with no last name, but Hellsing like the hunter?!"
The creature of the night spoke as he revealed himself. Pale skin shone in the moonlight his red eyes seemingly glowing brighter as he approached the three of them. Each of them took a step back and raised their weapons as the vampire grew closer and smiled at them, a vicious smile that was stained with what had to be dried blood from no doubt one of his latest victims and soon they would be next.
"Truly despicable and irremediable you are Ba-" she stopped herself trying to rise back to her only to instantly fall back down, hands trying and failing to reach her weapon as well but that didn't stop her from cursing out two more words."Vampire Scum."
"Go back to whatever coffin you crawled out of, we have no issue at ripping you limb from limb!" Khan spoke up with bass in his voice as he aimed his crossbow, and the others followed up with a unified 'yeah!'
The vampire paused for a moment his gaze at Ram in particular, a look of confusion in his eyes for a split second most likely confused as to why such pathetic and lowly humans could dare stand before him, and in a few seconds the confusion turned to realization, and realization turned into amusement.
"Is that so?" The creature began to raise his voice, his bloodstained smile grew wider as he took another dramatic step in the direction of the four hunters and lifted up one of his fingers. "You humans have it confused, it will not be you who will tear me limb from limb but instead myself!"
The Hunters each had mixed responses to the threat no it wasn't a threat, each of the hunters knew it was a promise. The only reason they weren't being torn apart limb for limb at the moment was that the vampire was enjoying this, enjoying seemingly them tremble in fear, seeing them look hopeless against an overwhelming evil.
Anger formed on each of their faces, teeth clenching, and their hands gripped their weapons so tightly it was as if the handles could break at any given moment but none of them could move other than Khan who took a step closer to the fallen Nun. Glancing between her and the vampire trying to gauge her reaction, surely she must have been frightened just like them after all this vampire easily threw her around like a ragdoll but no, there was no fear.
In fact for the few glances that Kan could catch it looked like the Nun looked bored, but there was no fear in her eyes, of course, that should be a given. She is an experienced hunter and even when coming to the face of death she would not be frightened by such a great enemy besides-
"We have you outnumbered!" Ton screamed gathering all his courage and resolve he managed to do something the other three hunters couldn't and took a step forward steadying his crossbow. "Each of us is an experienced hunter that has slain countless of your kind don't underestimate us!"
Ton lied through his teeth. In truth, this was the first time any of them had seen a real vampire in their entire lives. His finger was directly on the trigger aiming directly at the beast's heart, oh it would be to squeeze the trigger and put an end to the nightmare or at least attempt to but the only thing that was stopping him was his own mind.
It seemed like with each attempt he made just to gather the courage and strength to press the trigger harder images began to flash in his mind with step-by-step detail of his quickly the vampire could take his life. The most common was the very second he pressed the trigger the creature of darkness would step out of the way and rush forward with blinding speed, crushing the crossbow in his hand before sinking his fangs deep into his neck and then he would be nothing more than a shriveled up corpse and soon to be dried blood-stain like whatever unfortunate victim before him.
"I got a clean shot directly to that heart of yours so don't try anything!" Ton raised his voice again but that didn't seem to affect the vampire in the slightest as to Ton's threat he merely placed a hand over his heart and stepped back.
He let out a dramatic gasp and a small groan of pain as if he had already been shot by the stake still fastened on the crossbow, angering the hunter as it was clear he was mocking him and his valiant attempt at making the creature feel fear.
"Idiots," Ram whispered aloud at the display catching the attention of Chin who after what felt an eternity took his gaze off the bloodsucker.
"What?"
The Nun paused for a moment and took a deep breath sounding completely exhausted, probably as a result of her hard-fought battle against the vampire. "Ram says you all are idiots. If someone who is actually experienced in hunting got put in such a state what hopes do you have in beating such a hideous creature-"
"Hideous! Why-"
"What hopes do you fools have? If you wish to commit suicide there are better ways than fighting a vampire head-on. Dying to Barusu would be an embarrassment."
"B-but we have him outnumbered! If you can get up and fight surely we c-"
There was a soft groan that came from behind them and tiny footsteps followed as beyond the darkness of a room a small little girl with blond twin drilled hair approached the four hunters and the vampire.
"Betty will be feeling this for weeks I suppose." The little girl muttered aloud.
"A little girl?" The three hunters asked in unison at the newcomer.
"Beako you're ok!" The vampire screamed out a small smile on his face as the child approached, but if the three notices had kept their attention focused on the child they would have noticed his smile of relief turned to despair as he looked at the state of the little girl.
It seemed like merely walking was a struggle as with every second she stumbled holding onto the top of her head, as a fairly decent size dent was on her head, and something blue was escaping her head. It wasn't quite liquid but like a visible gas that was flying up into the air and fading with each step taken. Soon she found herself in the middle of everyone.
"You've been keeping a little girl hostage!" One of the hunters suddenly accused, fear disappearing and anger taking its place as he pointed his two daggers in his direction. "Absolutely unforgivable, making her dress up too you're a sick freak man!."
"W-wait I promise th-"
"Adults, I kind of understand but a little girl? What have you been treating her as a blood-bag, someone to feed your endless hunger, and worse yet abusing her as well!"
"I don't even drink-"
"Not cool man, and here I thought vampires had standards."
"This is just a mis-"
"Absolutely disgusting."
"Now is not the time to join in Ram!" The vampire screamed before turning back to the three an embarrassed smile on his face. "Whatever you're thinking it's not what it is! I'm not keeping my Beako hostage, nor am I doing anything wrong! Come on back me up here Beako!"
"For how you threw Betty like that a rag-doll Betty should let them have their way with you!" The little girl screamed, small tears appearing underneath her eyes causing the vampire to clench his chest this time being actually affected.
"I'm so sorry, Beako! I thought Ram would catch you, the plan should have worked! I am undeserving of your forgiveness but please forgive me this once! I'll give you a million head pats." The vampire, much to the shock of everyone, got on his hands and knees and bowed.
"A million headspace will not easily earn you Betty's forgiveness!" She cried a cute pout forming on her face as she looked absolutely red, but something told the three hunters the redness was not from anger. "You've not only damaged Betty's cute face but also her trust, Betty won't ever forgive you, ever!"
"I'll throw in some chocolate chip cookies, and some cinnamon rolls please forgive me!" the vampire's voice begins to intensify and what once was a great fearless blood-sucker was more akin to a father trying to win back their daughter's heart. "I'll never do such a reckless act again, please seeing my Beako mad at me is punishing enough my heart can't take it!"
"You can't be serious there's no way you actually believe you can bribe a little girl with cookies? You have a better chance with a white van, especially after everything you put her through."
"Betty will forgive you I suppose." Much to Chin and the rest of the three hunters' shock the girl known as Beako spoke up again, the hostility in her eyes completely faded and her face looked almost neutral. "Betty will demand you make the chocolate chip cookies and cinnamon rolls the very moment this is all said and done!"
"Yes, Beako I promise!"
"You have a habit of always breaking your promises in fact!" The little girl nearly screamed for the raven-haired vampire to look down in shame as he slowly began to rise.
"I know…"
"Betty will make sure you keep your promise, and make sure the snacks are up to Betty's standards!" She stomped her feet and turned her head with a hmph!
"Yes, Chef Beako!" Subaru said salute and finally the anger that plagued the Great Sprit's face faded and was replaced with a look of satisfaction.
"Little girl!" Suddenly Chin's voice called out to her. "You can't be serious. I know you're young but that's an evil blood-sucking vampire, he'll probably treat you as nothing more than a blood bag. Get out of here while you still have the chance!"
"Betty is not a little girl In fact." The little girl took a second to glare at Chin, her butterfly eyes flashing red for a moment forcing the skinny hunter to step back as she slowly walked forward to the vampire as he slowly began to rise.
Without a single doubt of hesitation or fear in her eyes but instead, a look of comfort she took the vampire's hand and slowly began to turn around, and glared at the three hunters and their faces quickly went from confusion to realization.
. "Betty is over 400 years old in fact." She said with a smirk and revealed her tiny sharp teeth and the realization of the hunter's face quickly turned into that of fear.
"She's one of them!" Ton screamed and aimed his weapon at the little girl who smirked as she could see his body trembling with fear.
"Looks like you really can be scary Beako." The vampire teased with which Beako's smug smile grew slightly wider.
"Naturally I suppose."
"S-so what. Do you honestly think this little girl could even the odds, we still out numb-"
Chin's tearful declaration of courage, his willingness to overcome the darkness that was the two creatures of the night standing before them, with the indomitable spirit of humanity to escape with their lives in stacked against impossible odds crushed in an instant as three glowing purple shadow crystals appeared directly in the two vampires. Each takes aim at the hunters.
"S-she's a- she's a-" Ton began to panic, his breathing grew heavier body trembling with each passing second. He couldn't finish speaking, he couldn't even move.
"Although it is easy to mistake her due to her size, looks, and childish personality-"
"Don't make Betty throw point a Mana Crystal at you I suppose!"
"That little girl is something you three could never match too, that is the Great Spirit of Yin Beatrice." Her words sent a chill down the hunter's spine, as the little girl and the vampire who is now revealed to be her contractors "What Ram is trying to say is should you attempt to fight her, you three would unfortunately die painful deaths, but at the very least it would be more honorable to die at the hands of a great spirit than someone like Baursu."
"Why do you always feel the need to insult me at every turn" Subaru cried out but to his response, the Nun merely shrugged her shoulders and turned away from Subaru and merely looked at the two reactions the three other hunters had at the reveal and sure enough it was exactly what she had expected.
The three "brave" hunters could almost be mistaken for vampires themselves as with how pale their skins were at the reveal of the two creatures of the night. At the very least they stopped shaking cause other than Ton they had lowered their weapons and were desperately searching the area for what they hoped to me an easy escape route but the door they entered was locked, and they really didn't want to risk being hunted by two vampires in their own homes.
"We're so dead." one of them muttered, backing away "There's nowhere to run, we're absolutely dead. How are we going to defeat a vampire and a Great Spirit whose also a vampire!"
"Miss H-hellsing can you–"
"No, unfortunately, Ram has broken every bone in her body and she is paralyzed." She answered the question before it even left his lips. Though they could have sworn she was lying flat on her stomach a moment ago, but now was leaning against the wall staring at the two vampires in front of them.
"Betty is getting hungry I suppose." The Great Spirit said calmly A frown appeared on her face causing her contractor to smile.
"Don't worry Beako after this is done I'll start cooking up those cookies and cinnamon rolls, and we can help ourselves to some blood bags before then."
"Y-you won't be making blood bags out of us!" Ton declared with a scream and in panic shot out the stake loaded into the crossbow. The distance between it and the vampire was getting smaller, smaller…until it completely passed the vampire's head and was now stuck on his wall. Slowly the vampire turned his head in the direction of the deadly weapon and began touching his head as if mocking Ton for his failure, although the look in his eyes could give off a different reason.
"U-uh yes, I was referring to you! And because you shot at me, you'll be my first meal" He declared with an evil laugh.
"You hunters have nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, me and my Beako could crush you all within an instant!" he declared raising his hand high in the air and clenching it tightly as if crushing their own hearts, and in turn the hunters clenched their own. "Luckily for you humans, we are feeling merciful."
"M-merciful?" Ton stuttered
"Beako if you would please," Subaru asked to which the great spirit merely moved her hands to the side in an instant the closed door slammed open, the cool air penetrating the hot room and grabbing the attention of all three hunters. The forest they had traveled and fought through to reach this place in sight, shining brightly on the moon as if inviting them as whatever Mabeast in there would be more pleasant than the creatures of the night before them.
Each hunter's body twitched and motioned for the exit but was stopped purely by instinct and willpower. After all, this could just be a simple trick, they know predators loved to hunt their prey before devouring them, and running into the forest would just be changing up the hunting ground. There was no way in hell that this blood-sucking monster would ever let them–
"You may leave. Leave, and never return and tell all those who dare wish to come here will be met with a fate worse than death, all we ask in return is one thing." The vampire spoke calmly with a small cocky grin, and shock began to take hold of each of the hunter's faces.
"A-and what's that?" Khan asked, taking a step forward towards the open exit never taking his eyes off the vampire once as this could easily be a trick.
"Leave her." Subaru pointed at the bored-looking Ram Helling. "Leave her, and you may all go. Only she has to die the rest of-"
"All right she's all yours!" Chin screamed and instantly dropped his weapons and rushed with the three doing the exact same thing and rapidly close by.
"Wait really! What happened to no man left behind?!" Subaru screamed at the thieves who were already 10 feet away from the mansion running at full speed not even looking back for even a second focusing all they had on making sure they did not waste a single second of the golden opportunity the ruthless vampire had given them.
However, that didn't mean that Chin didn't give one last response to the vampire's cry as he, Chin, and Ton began to disappear into the forest. "Bye, we'll plan the funeral and make a statue in her honor!"
A loud sigh escaped both the vampire's and the Nun's lips as the trio of hunters left their sight, and slowly the vampire closed the door. Leaving the Nun with nowhere to go, and no one to see what kind of horrors the two blood-sucking creatures of the night would inflict on her poor holy soul.
Another sigh couldn't help but leave the vampire's lips as he closed the door. This time it was a sigh of pure and utter relief at how quickly the entire situation was resolved, with the super hearing he could hear the heavy footsteps of the three hunters followed by panicked screams and the sound of a dozen more footsteps accompanying them in quick succession and those footsteps were getting further and further away from the mansion.
"Are they gone?" Ram raised an eyebrow as she slowly began to lift herself off from the ground, making sure to pat away the dust that had stained the elegant
"Yeah, they're gone," Subaru said with a relieved smile before his gaze turned quickly into worry. "Are you ok Ram, when I threw you I left a…"
The vampire's voice and gaze began to trail off slightly as he looked at the wall that had a large body print in the exact shape and size of a certain Nun on it. He couldn't help but wince at that he knew he had to make it believable but he didn't have to go that far.
"Ram is perfectly fine, Barusu has done no damage whatsoever. Lord Roswaal was watching over me, he wouldn't allow a faithful servant such as myself to be harmed especially by someone like Barusu." Her words were as sharp as ever and her expression remained neutral but that didn't stop a small smile from forming on Subaru's face, after all this was just who Ram was.
"You know Ram, if this was your plan, you could have just told me and Beatrice. We could have prepared better." Subaru couldn't help but chuckle as his Great Spirit merely gave a cute pout and turned her head towards the nearby window, Butterfly pupils scanning the area just to make sure no other foolish hunters would come near.
"Like Ram mentioned before. Ram was very tempted to take your life for the 60 ft statue of her lord. It was a hard dilemma to be sure, but Ram spared your life for two reasons." She answered
Subaru merely kept his smile and raised an eyebrow. "And what two reasons would that be?"
"Rem would be sad, and two Beatrice-sama would be alone again."
"Ah, I could never leave my Beako alone!" Subaru almost screamed out as he lifted Beatrice and hugged her tightly.
"Betty is still mad at you I suppose." The Great Spirit turned her head away from him but she wasn't struggling against it, in fact, she seemed to melt into his arms.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'll make those cookies and cinnamon rolls as soon as possible." Subaru chuckled. "You were amazing, Beako! Did you see the look on their faces when you revealed you were a vampire? They were almost as pale as us!"
,
"Betty told you she could be scary," Beatrice said with a puffed-out chest and mischievous smile with two sharp fangs. "Betty was impressed. You were pretty scary too I suppose, Betty heard everything that was happening when she was recovering from that throw."
"I've been practicing." Subaru winked.
"Indeed your Barusu performance was incredible." Ram, much to the shock of both Beatrice and Subaru, spoke, giving a compliment that was unexpected.
"Thank you, Ram, you-"
"If you performed in an audience of toddlers they would surely give you a standing ovation."
"Do you have some kind of disease that forbids you from giving compliments?" Subaru cried out in disappointment and merely shook his head and returned Ram's cruel insult with a kind smile. "Thanks, Ram, really we owe you one."
Ram didn't say anything this time merely giving Subaru a small barely noticeable nod as she tripled and checked her equipment. Her cross was still fastened around her neck and despite everything that's happened up to that point, her weapon was still in pristine condition and the Nun made sure to reload it with her strange wind bullets.
"Well if there is nothing else that needs to be done. Ram has to return to her Church." She said and turned to the Great Spirit and bowed slightly. "It was a pleasure seeing you again Beatrice-sama and I wish you luck in taking care of Barusu, I know it was extremely difficult every day." With that, the oni motioned towards the door.
"Wait, you're leaving now? The forest is extremely dangerous and night and not to mention–"
"The hunters assume you're dead or dying, and if you return they might gain a moral boost and attempt to storm the mansion at full force." The Great Spirit followed up after Subaru who nodded at her words.
Ram turned to them giving the two an empty stare and just as she was about to speak again. Subaru stopped her.
"Besides, it's been so long since you've visited and the night is still young. Me and Beako are watching a movie so maybe you could join us!"
Ram seems to hesitate for a moment, staring at the Great Spirit and Subaru multiple times before eventually letting out a soft sigh, and placing a hand on her head. "Ram doesn't see why not, as much as she would love to return to her Church and praise lord Roswaal's name-"
"You probably do that every day." Both Subaru and Beatrice said in unison, which earned a small shrug from Ram.
"Ram will stay here for the night and watch a movie, she is feeling extremely generous!"
"Movie night of three! Trust me, you'll absolutely love this movie Ram, it'll blow your socks off! Well I don't know for sure because I haven't watched it yet but from what we've heard it's really good!" Subaru almost yelled out, an excited look clear on his face, and his cheer was met with the indifference of Ram.
"The film you choose better not be perverted Barusu, Ram doesn't want you in the mood to lust over her holy figure more than you already do."
"Of course not, I have a child with me!" Subaru said with a small laugh and both the raven-haired vampire and the oni nun turned their attention to the great spirit who looked absolutely fuming.
"I'm older than both of you combined in fact!: Beatrice merely gave off a huff and crossed her arms together trying her best to look intimidating but as always she looked more cute than scary. "And Subaru still needs to make those cookies and cinnamon rolls I suppose!"
"I will, I will! Beako do we have any juice boxes or water, Ram can't exactly drink blood. Unless I'm mistaken and Oni's can! After all, there are rumors that Oni's are man-eating creatures of the night li-"
He was put to silence almost immediately upon Ram staring at him with a look that was a strange mix of pure hatred, and absolute disgust.
"I'll just get the food ready!" Subaru said as with one fluid he spun on his heels and began speed walking towards the kitchen. "Make yourself at home!" With that, the Raven-haired boy was out of sight.
Leaving the Oni Nun and the Great Spirit alone together. For a few seconds, there was a moment of pure silence between the two, before slowly the Great Spirit turned her head in the Oni's direction and stared daggers into her. A stare so fierce that most would crumble under the sheer intensity it held, but said glare had no effect on the maid who blankly looked down at the Great Spirit.
Titling her head slightly and her eyes held complete and utter confusion as to why the great spirit would look so hostile after all she did nothing wrong but put a vampire in his place.
"You should treat Betty's Subaru with a bit more respect I suppose." The Great Spirit spoke in a soft growl, to which the Oni answered with a small shrug and walked over to the living room, the great spirit reluctantly following her footsteps.
Only stopped for a moment to look at the damage to the room, cringing slightly at the bullet holes in the floor, the Oni Nun's body shape being dented into the wall leading in, with pieces of wood and marble all over the area and this was just the entrance. Who knows what the other rooms looked like?
"It was your plan, Betty expects you to help us clean this up despite your lackluster skill compared to your sister I suppose." The Great Spirit demanded but the Oni Nun didn't seem to hear—-no she heard just didn't decide to pay it any mind as she entered the living room, and gladly made herself comfortable on the couch and the two waited.
"Cookies and Cinnamon rolls are done!" Subaru's voice filled the quiet space around the living room after a good hour of leaving towards the kitchen. Both Beatrice and Ram turned their heads and sure enough, wearing some blood-red oven mitts and carrying aluminum trays in each hand. Accomplaining him was the familiar scent of freshly made cookies, and cinnamon tickled the nose and made the mouth water.
Slowly the raven-haired vampire placed the tray of treats on the table, perfectly in between the buckets full of popcorn and it didn't take long before one of the three would strike. With lighting quick speed that would put even the sword saint to shame the Great Spirit took a cookie from the tray, and took a bite nearly squirming with joy.
Crumbs fell on her elegant dress but she didn't care as she completely devoured the first cookie and happily helped herself to some more and Subaru couldn't help but give her a small head pat.
"I'm glad you like them Beako, I put my heart, soul, and our bond into it. I made sure to put in extra chocolate just for you." Subaru said as he took a seat next to the Great Spirit who answered by shoving more cookies in her mouth.
"Beatrice-sama is eating like she had never seen a batch of cookies in her life." Ram spoke as she took a sip of freshly made tea that Subaru was so happily provided as well.
"Beako really loves her cookies." Subaru chuckled as the great spirit kept on devouring the sweet treat. "I always have to stop her from getting to the cookie jar but she always finds a way."
"It's the same case with Petra," Ram said with a small snort. "Petra and Beatrice-sama must never be around each other when it comes to cookies, they either fight over them or an entire stash of multiple cookie jars will disappear from existence."
"Certainly," Subaru said with a small smile. "Last time Petra visited I locked away the cookie jar somewhere dark and safe but last time I checked they were already there and eating the cookies in the dark like two adorable rats"
"Naturally you would fail at such a simple task Barusu." Ram said with a small sneer before her crimson gaze slowly drifted toward the spirit. "though Ram can't blame you, keeping Beatrice and Petra away from a jar or cookies? One would have a better chance against the great calamity"
"An Angry Beako deprived of cookies is a scary Beako." Subaru followed up and both he and Ram nodded at the words, much to the dismay of the Great Spirit who was sat in between them.
"Be-" Beatrice tried to speak, her face red with embarrassment as the two mercilessly teased her but there was nothing she could do as her mouth was filled to the brim with cookies. Any words would sound like an unintelligent mess and frankly, she did not want to give her contractor or the Oni Nun any more stakes to stab deep into her, but it seemed like she would not need to as her contractor gently picked her up and placed herself gently on his lap.
"I know, I know Beako. You aren't a child, and you're older than both our ages" Subaru teased as he poked his puffy cheeks earning a light headbutt directly on her contractor's chest, knocking the wind out of him slightly. A small little trick habit she learned from Petra she would sometimes use when her contractor annoyed her with his teasing or broke his promises.
'I should just be thankful she didn't hit me with the full force of the Petra headbutt technique.' Suabru thought to himself as his body shivered from the sheer memory of the small maid of the Roswaal manor running at her full force, hitting him gut first with her surprisingly strong head. If he wasn't a vampire, he wouldn't be surprised if would have gotten permanent internal damage.
"Barusu." Ram quickly called out with a snap of her fingers thankfully knocking him out of the many painful gut-wrenching thoughts, and motioned her fingers to the still-closed TV and she didn't have to say no more as quickly the vampire grabbed the remote that was right beside him.
"Man, I can't wait to watch this." Subaru almost said with an excited squeal as if he were a child entering a movie theater for the first time and pressing the button. Slowly like before a shining white mask with a long mouth appeared in the middle of the darkness, and underneath it was only one word drenched in blood.
Resume?
"Man, they did a really good job with the mask." Subaru thought aloud, earning a small mouthful of cookies mhm from Beatrice, and grabbed two blood bags and handed one of them to Beatrice who began drinking it almost instantly with her free hand reaching for the cinnamon rolls. "If the movie is just as good as the new mask, we're in for a great time. I hope the kills are still on point what do you think Ram?"
"..."
"Ram?"
Subaru turned his head over to the Oni Maid who hadn't said anything and what he saw absolutely shocked him, he had seen many expressions on the Oni nun's face before, joy, annoyance, disgust, and condescension but this look was something he had never seen before.
The Nun stood almost unmoving her hand in one of the large bowls of popcorn staring nigh emptily at the screen, her skin looking so pale one would think she was a vampire herself, and worse yet her eyes were wide and her pupils were darting around rapidly but always finding themselves staring directly at the white mask.
"Ram are you ok?" Subaru asked again preparing to reach out and grab the nun's shoulder when she twitched a bit, and in a short nigh unhearable whisper she asked.
"What film is this?" Ram asked in a calm yet strange way, causing the knight to tilt his head a bit.
"Shirek 6." Beako answered for Subaru cleaning the crumbs off her mouth and looked at the maid with a bit of worry. "Is something the matter?"
"Oh, have you never seen it before? Me and Beako can understand, we had the same exact reaction." Subaru's spoke nodding at his own words with a smile, and gently pats the Oni on the back. "It's ok Ram-Ram, you can cry I almost did when Beako showed me the Tv cover."
Ram said nothing just staring deeply into the mask in perfect silence and she did something that Subaru nor Beatrice thought they would ever see the day. Out of her own free will, Ram who was sitting at the edge of the coach moved closer to the spirit and her contractor. Not close as in moving just a few centimeters closer like Ram would normally do when she's forced to be in the same space as Subaru, but actually closed the distance to the point where the Nun and the vampire were almost directly shoulder to shoulder.
Subaru at that moment expected Ram to make a snarky comment, but no. She didn't instead she kept her eyes trained on the mask, and her pupils once again still shaking with what Subaru thought to be excitement.
"Betty believes there is something wrong with the maid." Beatrice whispered to her contractor, who merely shook his head.
"Ram's acting odd, but maybe it's the power of movie night uniting us together!" Subaru said with a cheerful smile, but the great spirit did not share the same type of cheerfulness just glancing at the Oni and the Tv screen.
She debated with herself for a few moments before sighing. "Let's just what the movie I suppose"
"Ack-" Ram made a strange noise and what followed was the crunching of popcorn almost immediately the spirit and her contractor turned their heads toward the maid who responded to their glares with just a small cough.
"Just start the film already Barusu." Ram said with almost a disinterested look, but this one was different and Subaru from hanging out and gotten used to Ram's mannerisms could tell. It was as if she was faking it, trying her best to look as if she wasn't interested in the film but her trembling hand that was stuck inside the bucket told him otherwise.
Subaru merely smile and nodded, of course, even Ram's calm personality breaks every once in a while for only two things. One when she's around Roswaal, another for when she's hanging out with Rem and no one else is around the two, and Subaru had discovered the third and possibly only one and that was good old scary movie night.
With a click of a button, the mask slowly begins to fade and the movie begins.
"That was actually really good," Subaru said with a smile on his face as the end credits began to slowly play, and quickly with a click of the button he turned off the television and looked down at his beloved spirit. "It wasn't as good as the first because you can't beat the original but other than that it was extremely cool! The kills were there, the acting was on point, and for the first time in the reboot I actually got completely blind-sided by who the killer actually was!"
"Betty has to admit the movie was far more enjoyable than she expected I suppose" The Great Spirit nodded, before giving her contractor a death glare. "Although Betty would have enjoyed it more if her Subaru didn't blind her every time a kill was happening on screen In fact."
"Those kills were completely barbaric Beako a child should not experience such a thing." Subaru shook his head and gave his contracted spirit a comforting hug but it did little to quell the fire inside of her heart.
"Betty has lived for centuries in fact. She has seen people get their heads cut off, body manipulated, and others the sort she is not so squeamish to practical effects." She retorted with a huff.
"You sure?" Subaru leaned slightly forward a sharp-fanged smile clear on his face as he moved closer to the Great Spirit slightly. "Beako dug her face into my suit during a certain scene, she was holding onto me so tight I could barely breathe! I had to spend a good 30 seconds to get you to look back at the screen after."
"That was because of cheap jump-scare I suppose." She responded with a huff. "Don't act like that Jump-scare didn't affect you at all you nearly dropped Betty on the floor from how high you jumped in fact."
Subaru merely nodded at her words and patted her head gently, body trembling slightly as he remembered how the killer disappeared in the light but suddenly reappeared in the darkness of the hospital and nearly killed off the main heroine. "Man that new Mask is creepy, got to admit I was completely terrified by the killer the entire movie. Luckily-"
"Betty was here to comfort you I suppose." She said with a cheeky smile of her own. "If Betty had bones they would surely be broken because of how tightly you hugged her in fact"
To her words, Subaru once again hugged the Great Spirit. "What would I ever do without my Beako?."
"Don't act like I'm some doll I suppose!" She screamed as she attempted and failed to push her contractor back with her own small hands. "Beako is not a stress ball you can use whenever you feel like it, although she does not mind the frequent hugs at times!"
"Well Beako, I understand how you feel…" He began to speak as slowly his gaze drifted away from the great spirit and onto a certain Oni Nun who had not moved even an inch when the movie ended but was close to Subaru so close that their shoulders were touching.
"I never took Ram-san to be the type to get scared during horror movies, I'm happy we bonded and grew a lot closer to this experience but she almost broke my arm!" Subaru almost screamed out but Ram did not respond. No she didn't even move.
To Subaru, the Oni Nun next to him was the embodiment of fearlessness. If she saw something move mysteriously in the distance she would walk up to whatever it was, smack it in the back of its head, and force whatever it was into the light. He should know as that was exactly what happened once during a Halloween party when at the time the young vampire wanted to scare his friends, he could even still feel the bruise on the top of his head.
Yet here she was visibly trembling, her stone wall facade crumbled before his very eyes and it was worse during the actual movie. Every single time the killer would appear Ram would jump behind the coach hiding her face only glancing up every now and then to make sure the killer was gone, Every time a survivor would get killed by the killer in a horrible fashion she would hide her face inside the large bowl of popcorn in her hand getting the movie night snack either stuck on her black veil, or pink hair but the worst part Subaru could say for Ram at least is during haunting scenes.
Because the killer in the movie had the outfit and powers of a ghost often time the film would trigger what Subaru and Beako deemed haunting scenes. Scenes where the entire film pulls back and focuses on one of the victims in their home and the killer would be there watching them, stalking them from the shadows, triggering hallucinations, and even randomly opening up technological devices to scare the victim before finally going in for the kill.
It was the perfect way to build tension before the ghost suddenly appeared and brutally killed the victim and even had Subaru and Beatrice trembling at times, but Ram out of everyone had it the worst. During each haunting scene when the music would suddenly cut off and it would just be the victim in their home, the Oni Nun would say a small prayer to lord Roswaal and clutch onto Subaru's shoulder like a scared child would their parents never letting go for even a second.
Subaru at first didn't mind but slowly as the film grew on and on, the killer became more powerful with each soul of the dead he absorbs Ram's grip and grew stronger and stronger to the point where he could feel his bones cracking under the sheer pressure of the Oni Nun's strength.
"I'm definitely going to see Felix after this," Subaru said as he winced at how numb his left arm was feeling at the moment. "Man if I wasn't a vampire I'm pretty sure the ones in my arm would be nothing but dust right now."
"Betty did not expect a Nun to be so scared of ghost stories." The Spirit couldn't help but raise an eyebrow as she looked at the Nun.
"Well, we're all scared of something. Just like you are scared of slasher films." Subaru teased poking the cheek of the Great Spirit who merely gave another cute pout, causing the vampire to chuckle as he slowly turned to Ram. "Besides Ram, now that you're a Nun you won't have to be scared of ghost you can exco-'
"Barusu." Ram suddenly cut him off, standing up straighter than before her trembling body returning to normal and her stone wall facade back on her face returning back to normal that brought a small sigh out of Subaru as his friend recovered but his relief turned into worry at how the Oni was looking at him.
He was no stranger to Ram's stares. After all out of everyone in he had suffered it the most, he's seen all the wild ranges to Ram's stare, from disgust, condescending, amusement, and even pure barely contained rage.
Yet the look Ram was giving him was entirely different. It was blank, almost completely and utterly unreadable.
'This is the second time I've seen something new from Ram today' Subaru thought to himself as he moved slightly away from Ram, it wasn't that he wanted to but his body just moved on his own.
"You will forget everything that happened just now. We never watched this movie, Ram was never with you, after Ram dealt with the hunter she left and you returned to your pitful coffin." She continued. Her tone was cold yet extremely demanding and the blank stare in her eyes never changed for a second, sending a shiver down Subaru's spine and he could swear the Oni's crimson eyes were glowing which was weird. Only vampires could make their eyes glow red!
Ram was clearly acting strange.
"Ah, I get it." Subaru began forcing a smile as his body continued moving further away from the Oni until it hit the side of the coach, Beatrice still on his lap and glancing between the two. "You're just embarrassed. It's ok your secret is safe with me, I won't mention your fear of horror movies to anyone, nor the fact you almost broke my arm with how tightly you were holding me. Beako you won't say a thing right?!"
Beatrice nodded her head rapidly eyes widening with fear for her contractor. "Betty knows how much you value your pride. Betty's flips are sealed in fact."
"Thank you, lady Beatrice." Ram bowed her head slightly at her words before slowly and menacingly as she began to unholster her weapon. "Unfortunately letting Barusu live with the memory of this will forever haunt me, there's only one way for Ram to sleep well at night."
"I-I'll keep my mouth shut! Y-you don't have to kill me!" Subaru screamed jumping straight up from the coach almost causing Beatrice to hit the floor but was caught quickly by his quick reflexes.
"Ram is not so cruel." She spat with disgust, and a small sigh of relief escaped Subaru. "However, Ram will beat you until you forget. Blunt force trauma is the most optimal way for Amnisea"
"I'm pretty sure Felix will disagree with you on that one!" Subaru said as he slowly begin to back away. Ram inched closer and unloaded her weapon and gripped lightly at the barrel of the weapon the shiny metal butt of the weapon gleaming menacingly reflecting the vampire's scared expression as the demon Nun was almost upon him.
"Ba-"
This time Subaru did not even wait for the Oni to get a word in as he understood that nothing he could say, nothing he could change her mind now that it was made up. So the Great and powerful vampire did the only thing he could do when faced with a very angry demon Nun and that was using his ultimate skill, a secret technique of sorts.
One passed down by a family of stars that are bound by blood to fight evil, and in turn creatures of the night like himself studied their ways and added some of their skills to their arsenal. In fact, he had used the very same skill when he thought Ram was going to actually kill him and he would certainly do it again.
The secret skill was-
"Nigerundayo!"
"Get back here Barusu!" The Nun screamed out as the vampire hightailed it.
Subaru ran as fast as he possibly could reaching the front door of his home in only less than five seconds using the ancient skill of the family of the stars but unfortunately, there was something much more stronger than his secret technique, and that was the rage of a very embarrassed Oni Nun.
Ram was already upon him. The butt of her golden gun sparkled in the moonlight as her crimson eyes began to glow and he could swear he could also see a faint white glow coming from the forehead her horn used to be. In only less than 6 seconds she was already inches away from Subaru.
The only thing Subaru could do was let out the manliness girlish scream he could as he burst through the hard wooden door and ran head first into the forest. Maybe, just maybe if the stars of the universe were looking favorably upon him just this once maybe a beast would jump out of the shadows and tear him apart.
After all, it would be a lot more quicker and merciful than whatever Ram had to offer, especially now that the Raven-haired decided to run, and run was all he could do.
He kept on running and running and not once did he look back. Using every last ounce of experience he had as a former track star, his vampire heritage, and the adrenaline pumping through his blood all aiding him in his flight for survival.
The only thing he could hear was his footsteps and only his footsteps and nothing else.
There were several rules horror movies teach all. Never enter a dark ally by yourself, leave at the first warning a killer or ghost gave you, and the last and most important one was run like hell. No matter what you do don't turn back and keep running forward even if your legs are about to drop but an action like that was clearly easier said than done.
A primal urge in every being to just turn their head around slightly and see if their hunter was still chasing them. After all, it's been what seems like to be a good 30 seconds so surely Ram must've given up. So despite the many teachings of horror movies and ignoring the wisdom of Neet within him who constantly daydreams about what he would do in this situation he turns around.
He turned around and saw—-nothing.
Nothing except for the lush grass below him, the beautiful oak wood of the trees he was rapidly passing by and his shadow being given form by the moonlight.
Then without warning his shadow—no the moon itself was covered by something and that something was none other than Ram. The Nun's arms were outstretched on each side and she remained perfectly still above the air like a trasnceded being. the moon illuminating her divine body for all the world to see giving her wings of pure light as her judgemental gaze descended upon Subaru's.
It was at that moment Subaru realized the Nun wasn't a Nun. No but instead she was a god. A god that had descended from the heavens in mortal flesh to cast its judgment on the sinners and unbelievers. A god that had been called not out of the prayers of others but its own wrath awakened by having a disgusting vampire like himself see her in such a state but she was a merciful deity and she would grant the vampire her mercy.
"AHH!" Was the final scream the poor vampire could muster as the Oni God descended upon him.
Under the light of the full moon, surrounded by dense forest where no one could hear his cries. That was how Natsuki Subaru—-
Gained Amensia and forgot everything that happened in the last three hours of his life.
Well that's it! thank you so much for reading.
