"Homer`s enemy" was how it ended. Nobody was prepared for things to happen this way. None of the viewers who knew this series as a funny satire on society, like small funny stories about the adventures of a cult family, could have thought that the terrible, oppressive and left such a gloomy aftertaste ending would put an end to the history of The Simpsons. The funeral, the mocking laughter that eats into the mind ... It was wrong. Nobody wanted to believe that this was really the end. The end of the adventures of funny characters that amused thousands of people. But it really was the finale. The darkest episode was indeed the last. No matter how wrong it may seem...
How suddenly perception can suddenly change from one episode. What recently caused smiles and laughter, what was sorted into quotations, is now remembered with this disgusting, heavy sediment. An unfortunate man whose death no one took seriously. We all saw him in the coffin. It would have been forgotten, like a bad dream, if something as funny followed the episode, like all those episodes before that, which the audience loved so much. Everything would fall into place.
But that did not happen. And will never happen again. Frank Grimes, dying, turned everything upside down. He buried the series with him. The Simpsons was no longer waiting for a sequel, nothing else was waiting for him. They will always remain in their memory as a cult classic. Dark, dark classic.
Everything that happens to the heroes in the post-canon invisible to the audience, they will be sure, will now rely on this terrible ending, because nothing affects events so much as the end. Where laughter doesn't sound funny at all. It can only get worse from there. A funny satire turned into a tragedy in an instant. There will never be a return to this carefree era. Not for the audience, not for the characters.
Death is the only true end. The fact that, having reached one not deserving of this character, from now on awaits each of them. Every day they are getting closer to it.
