Chapter 2: Summer Sun
"Oh I love it when the sunshine feels warm on my skin!" Lucy smiled. "Beats a rainy day, any day!"
"I enjoy the sun too!" Danny smiled.
"Same here, but too much sun can give you a sunburn." Kim explained "And that can hurt!"
"Not to worry." Barney smiled "I have a BIG bottle of sunscreen, right here in my beach bag!"
Emily, Sally and Lila began rustling through the bag "HERE IT IS!" Sally declared.
"As we stand by the ocean, we'll put on our lotion. It's good for your skin, so, quick, rub it in!" Barney explained.
"And some for your nose." Lila giggled, rubbing sunscreen on Snoopy's nose, making him giggle.
"Here ya go, Danny." Peppermint Patty explained, tossing him the sunscreen bottle.
"Thanks, Pat." Danny smiled. "WHOA!"
"I think that's a little too much sunscreen." Schroeder acknowledged.
"Here, let me get you a towel!" Charlie Brown offered as he looked through Barney's beach bag. "Here you go! A nice towel!"
Kim spoke up "Wait a minute, Charlie! That isn't a towel."
"What else could it be?" Charlie Brown asked.
Linus grabbed the supposed towel. "Let's see, soft cotton, bright shade of yellow, faded stains of melted cheese. I know what we're dealing with."
"What is it?" Frieda asked.
"It's my blankie!" Baby Bop exclaimed, rushing over.
"Precisely." Linus explained.
"Hi Baby Bop!" Everyone smiled and waved as Linus handed back Baby Bop's blankie back to her.
"Hi everybody, hi Barney, hi Snoopy, hi blankie!" Baby Bop smiled.
"Here's a real towel, Danny." Kim said, pulling one out.
"Thanks." Danny smiled as he dried his arm off.
"We're very glad you're here, Baby Bop. You can share our day in the sun!" Barney smiled.
"Yay! Are we going to play games?" Baby Bop asked.
"Sure are!" Sally grinned.
"And are there going to be toys?" Baby Bop asked.
"Oh, I got a whole bag full of them!" Barney bubbled with excitement. "Help yourselves." With that, the kids and Baby Bop dived into the bag and pulled out beach toys that needed to be blown up.
"Uh, Barney, what is this?" Baby Bop asked.
"Oh that's a beach ball. It doesn't have air in it yet." Barney explained.
"Oh! Will you blow it up, please?" Baby Bop asked.
"Why I'd be happy to." Barney smiled as he did just that. His powerful lungs blew the ball to life.
"Boy, does that dinosaur have strong lungs." Linus commented.
"Very strong!" Frieda smiled as Barney handed the beach ball to Baby Bop.
"Oh lookie! It is a ball!" Baby Bop cooed.
"Will you blow up my toy, Barney?" Lila asked with a smile.
"Sure!" Barney smiled.
"And mine?" Linus asked to which almost everyone else crowded around their dinosaur friend.
"HEY! LET THE DINO BREATHE!" Lucy yelled. "I mean, let's not crowd him. One at a time."
A few minutes later, Barney had blown up the last of the beach toys. And was he worn out. "Phew. I think that's...the last one. Did I get everybody?" Barney panted.
"Yep! You got everyone." Charlie Brown smiled.
"Look at all these toys!" Heather squealed with delight.
"Oooh! And look at all the pretty colors!" Baby Bop smiled.

"WOOOOOOO!" Snoopy cheered.
"Let's get swimming!" Lucy exclaimed.
"Stay close, where I can see you." Barney called out as Lucy and Frieda rushed into the water.
"You know what would be super fun?" Peppermint Patty asked.
"What?" asked Danny.
"Wind surfing!" Peppermint Patty explained.
"Wind surfing?" Danny questioned.
"So then I asked Linus if he was gonna take me to the movies." Sally told Lila and Baby Bop, tossing a beach ball to the latter.
"What'd he say?" Baby Bop inquired, bouncing the ball to Lila.
"He said to forget it." Sally shrugged.
"Oh well, there's lots of other fish in the sea." Lila reassured, tossing the beach ball to Sally.
"That's what my big brother says. Catch, Baby Bop!" Sally explained.
"I got it, I got it!" the three year old ran under the ball but missed. "I didn't got it..."
"Don't worry! I got it!" BJ exclaimed, running over with the beach ball.
"BJ!" everyone exclaimed.
"HEY!" Snoopy greeted.
"Hi guys! Great day for the beach, huh?" BJ asked.
"You said it, Jay!" Peppermint Patty said.
"We've been enjoying the sun." Barney said.
"And playing with beach toys." Sally added.
"And swimming." Lucy added.
"And there are a lot of other things to do." Heather added, adjusting a sun hat.
"Like wind surfing!" BJ said.
"Exactly! That's what I wanna do!" Peppermint Patty said.
'WHAT'S wind surfing?" Jeff wondered.
"Wind's surfing is awesome! But it's kind of hard to explain. We'll be happy to show you though." BJ said.
"But where will you get a sailboard?" asked Marcie.
"At the beach store, Mars Bar. They have everything! Come on! We'll show you." BJ said as he led the group towards the beach store.
"Say Barney, is there anything you'd like to try on the beach today?" asked a curious Lucy.
"Well, there's one thing I always wanted to do. I wanted to surf. Not windsurf like BJ or Peppermint Patty want to. Like surf the waves like they do in the movies!" Barney smiled. "You know, like 'Hang ten'!"
Lucy laughed at that. "Well maybe we can find you a surfboard." she smiled as they reached the beach store.
"Well, here we are!" BJ smiled.
"The Dandy, Sandy Beachside Store and Snack Shack." Sally read the signage.
"Wow, that sounds like it's got just about everything." Barney smiled.
"But I don't think there's anyone here." Kim said, ringing the bell. "Hello?"
Just then, Mr. Boyd came out, wearing goggles and a snorkel. "Hello..." Mr. Boyd said before removing the goggles. "Oh, that's much better."
"Oh, it's Mr. Boyd!" Barney and the kids smiled.
"Oh hi Barney, hi Snoopy, hi kids! Welcome to my beach store." Mr. Boyd smiled.
"Your store? We thought you worked in our school." Lila said.
"I do, but I take off every summer and work here. I get to enjoy the beach, and help other people have fun too." Mr. Boyd smiled.
"Sounds like fun." Heather commented.
"Look at all the hats!" Frieda said, adjusting her naturally curly hair.
"May I try one on, please?" asked Emily.
"You certainly may." Mr. Boyd replied.
"Wearing hats at the beach is a good idea." Barney commented.
"That's why I have my bucket hat." Marcie explained. "It's waterproof and it blocks out the sun."
"Oooh!" Snoopy said.
"I wanna try a hat on too." Lucy told Mr. Boyd.
"Me too!" Sally explained.
"I do, too!" Lila explained.
"Are there enough hats to go around?" Charlie Brown worried.
"There certainly are, Charlie." Mr. Boyd reassured, revealing racks of hats.
"COOL!" BJ exclaimed.
Mr. Boyd:
