Chapter 3: Ocean Discoveries

"You all look great!" Barney smiled.

"You certainly do. And you can all wear hats to the beach party tonight." Mr. Boyd smiled.

"What beach party?" Linus smiled.

"Well, it's something I like to do when special friends come to visit. Tonight, just before the sun goes down, we'll have a cookout, we'll sing some songs, and have a good time." Mr. Boyd explained.

"That sounds great! We'll be there for sure!" Heather bubbled with excitement.

"But the sun is high in the sky now, so we'll do lots of other things." Barney smiled.

"I wanna play in the sand with Sally." Baby Bop requested.

"Oh, well you two are going to need a pail, and a shovel." Mr. Boyd smiled, handing the items to Sally and Baby Bop. "But don't use too much of the sand."

"OK. Thank you, Mr. Boyd." Sally smiled as she and Baby Bop found a spot.

"Say Mr. B." Peppermint Patty smirked.

"Yes, Peppermint Patty?" Mr. Boyd asked.

"Me and Jay would like to go wind surfing." Peppermint Patty smiled.

"Then you came to the right place. I got two sailboards over there you both can use." Mr. Boyd smiled.

"Thanks, Mr. Boyd." BJ smiled as he and Peppermint Patty grabbed them and headed out for the ocean.

"Go on, ask." Lucy whispered to Barney.

"Say!" Mr. Boyd spoke up. "Would the rest of you kids like to go on a sailboat ride with me?"

"That sounds like fun!" Lila exclaimed.

"Then grab a life jacket and follow me." Mr. Boyd instructed.

"Already got one." Marcie explained.

"You came quite prepared, Marceline." Mr. Boyd acknowledged.

Jeff laughed "Is that ANY surprise?"

"Don't worry, you can ask about the thing later." Lucy whispered to Barney as she went to get a life jacket.

"Barney, would you and Snoopy mind watching the store until we get back?" Mr. Boyd asked.

"Aye-aye, captain!" Barney responded.

Snoopy gave a salute and sat next to Baby Bop before pulling out his own shovel and pail and making a sandcastle next to her.

"Have fun on the water!" Barney called out.

"We will!" Charlie Brown replied.

The kids and Mr. Boyd then got in the sailboat and started rowing down.

Charlie Brown leaned over to kiss Heather when they saw BJ and Peppermint Patty wind surfing around and laughing happily.

"THIS IS SO MUCH FUN!" Peppermint Patty exclaimed.

"I KNOW, RIGHT?!" BJ laughed.

Jeff and Linus:

We'll feel the waves go up and down.

Emily and Lila:

The wind will blow us round and round.

Mr. Boyd:

We'll wave hello to the ships we know

As we go out to sea.

Mr. Boyd, Barney's Friends, and Peanuts Gang:

I'd love to sail on a sailing ship

And sail away to sea.

BJ and Peppermint Patty:

Heather then kissed Charlie Brown on the cheek. "Geez! Get an ocean you two!" Peppermint Patty playfully teased.

Kim and Lucy:

We'll watch the whales and dolphins play

Danny and Franklin:

Splashing in the salty spray.

Mr. Boyd, Barney's Friends, and Peanuts Gang:

As we float on our beautiful boat

When we go out to sea.

BJ and Peppermint Patty:

After their sailing trip, Linus, Keesha, Marcie, Frieda, Kim, and Danny were searching the sand for seashells while Lucy whispered something to Barney. "Say, Mr. Boyd?" Barney asked.

"Yes, Barney?" Mr. Boyd asked.

"Well, I always wanted to go surfing, and was wondering if you had a surfboard." Barney requested.

"Well, I think I have one just your size." Mr. Boyd smiled, pulling out a long surfboard that's sure to hold Barney's weight.

"Wow! That's the biggest surfboard I've ever seen!" Lucy exclaimed.

"It's perfect! Thank you, Mr. Boyd!" Barney smiled.

"You're welcome." Mr. Boyd replied.

"Ooooooooh!" Snoopy exclaimed, wagging his tail.

"Uh, Mr. Boyd, may Snoopy have a surfboard too?" asked Barney.

"Certainly. Here you go." Mr. Boyd replied, giving Snoopy his own surfboard.

"Barney, if you're going to take Snoopy surfing, I don't want you two going out too far. And no riding the big waves, please." Charlie Brown worried.

"Don't worry, Charlie Brown. We'll be safe." Barney reassured.

Peppermint Patty chuckled, grabbing a surfboard and running into the water with it. "SURFS UP!"

"WHOO HOO!" Snoopy cheered.

"Cowabunga!" added a laughing Barney.

"And no curving the A frame! Or hanging ten! Or hotdogging!" Charlie Brown added before seeing Lila glare at him. "If you'll pardon the expression!" Charlie Brown added, sheepishly.

"There they go." Mr. Boyd chuckled.

"WHOA!" Barney laughed as he and Snoopy began riding the waves.

"Look at Barney go!" Lila smiled.

"He's a natural!" Lucy grinned.

"WHOO HOO!" Snoopy cheered as he and his purple friend continued riding the waves.

"Wow! Barney's a great surfer!" Charlie Brown smiled as the waves died down and Barney and Snoopy came back to the beach. "Bravo, Barney!"

"You were amazing out there!" Lila cheered.

"Why thank you. Nothing like riding the waves!" Barney smiled and laughed.

Meanwhile, on another part of the beach, Kim, Keesha, Danny, Linus, Frieda, and Marcie were still searching for seashells. "Hey! Here's a pretty one." Frieda smiled.

"This is a great beach for finding shells and things." Linus smiled.

"It certainly is." Danny smiled as Marcie pulled something out.

"Whoa. Look at this! I found a sand dollar." Marcie smiled.

"Whoa! Look what I found! It's a starfish, and it really does look like a star." Kim smiled as Barney arrived.

"Hunting for seashells? That sounds like lots of fun." Barney smiled. "I just found a conch shell after surfing with Snoopy." He held it out for his friends to see. "And if you hold it up to your ear, you can hear the ocean."

"Really? Can I try it please?" asked Keesha.

"Sure." Barney said. "Here you go."

"Thanks." Keesha smiled and put it up to her ear. "I hear it! Oh this is great!"

"Where do all these shells come from?" Kim asked.

"Most shells were once homes to animals who lives under the sea." Marcie explained.

"That's right." Barney added. When the animals move out of their shells, the ocean washes their empty shells right here, on the beach."

"Do you want to help us hunt for more seashells, Barney?" Frieda asked.

"I'd love to!" Barney bounced gleefully.

Barney:

I wish I had a pirate's map

Barney, Kim, Keesha, Danny, Linus, Frieda and Marcie:

"Hey guys, look what we found!" Linus called out as Keesha motioned over.

"Okay!" Barney smiled as they saw two large crabs in the sand.

"I'm getting a little thirsty." Kim commented, as to which, Marcie handed her her pineapple cup. "Thanks."

"Always be prepared." Marcie replied.

Barney:
