"Denki? Hey, are you alright?" Kyoka's voice broke through the haze.
It took me a moment to snap out of it, my senses returning as the fog lifted. I looked around, disoriented and bewildered by the situation.
"I... I don't know what happened," I stammered, my voice shaky.
As I slowly regained my senses in that dimly lit common room, I couldn't shake off the strange feeling that still coursed through me. It was as if my own electricity had turned against me, tingling beneath my skin. I glanced around, realizing my classmates were all gathered around me, concern etched across their faces.
Momo placed a comforting hand on my shoulder, concern evident in her eyes. "It's okay, Denki. You're safe now."
But as soon as she touched me, a sudden surge of electricity shot out from my body, shocking her mid speech.
"Momo! Are you okay?" exclaimed Kyoka, panic replacing my bewilderment as I saw her stagger back, clutching her hand in pain.
"Denki, what's going on?" Asui asked, her voice quivering.
I stared at my trembling hands, horrified by the unintended harm I'd caused. "I... I don't know. Something's not right."
Momo, recovering from the shock, managed to speak through her pain. "It's alright, Denki. We just need to figure this out."
As the three gather closer around me, trying to make sense of the bizarre situation, Asui, ever observant, noticed something unusual beneath our feet. She knelt down and inspected the carpet closely, her tongue flicking out in thought.
"Hey, guys," she croaked, her voice tinged with curiosity. "I think the carpet might be causing the shock."
Momo turned to look at Asui, her revelation sparking a glimmer of hope in our collective confusion.
"What do you mean, Tsuyu?" she asked.
Asui pointed at the carpet's intricate pattern. "See these metal fibers woven into the carpet? They're conducting electricity, which is probably why Denki's quirk is acting up."
My heart sank at the revelation. It made sense – my quirk had always been sensitive to conductive materials.
"Well, let's get him off the carpet and get the lights turned back on!" Kyoka declared, already stepping away but then waiting for Asui who was the only one who could see the way with her frog like eyes.
Trying to stand up, I stumbled over my own feed. My legs were trembling. Asui caught my fall but instead of thanking her my quirk acted up once more.
I inadvertently zapped Asui when my electricity discharged, making her jump back.
"Sorry, Tsuyu," I apologized, frustrated by my inability to control my own quirk.
When I finally felt the plane cold titles, the lights in the common room began to flicker back to life, casting away the darkness that had enveloped us moments ago. I felt a strange sense of relief as the electricity flowed smoothly through me once more, no longer reacting to the troublesome carpet.
Asui gave me a reassuring pat on the back, her resilience unwavering. "It's alright, Denki. We got through it."
The room filled with a collective sigh of relief and a nervous chuckle or two. From another floor came rushing the rest of the common room people lead by Bakugo.
I really wasn't in the mood for talking and for sure not explaining the situation and thankfully Kyoka understood. She started giving the others a short consumption that gave me time to think.
As we gathered our thoughts and recovered from the electrifying ordeal, I decided it was best to retreat to my room. The incident had been unnerving, and I needed a moment to clear my head. As I walked down the hallway towards our rooms, I couldn't help but replay the events in my mind.
I pushed open the door to our shared room, expecting to find it empty or at least with sleeping members since it was nearly 11pm. However, as I entered, I was met with an unexpected sight. Fumikage, my quiet and enigmatic roommate, was standing in the center of the room, his dark cloak of a shadowy substance swirling around him like a tempest and Mashirao standing in battle stance next to him.
"Hey, Fumikage, Mashirao, I... I didn't expect to see you here, awake..." I stammered, taken aback by the intensity of his Dark Shadow quirk.
Mashirao turned to me, his face a mix of frustration and exhaustion. "Denki, this isn't a good time."
