Prologue
In a cramped room, dimly lit by the blue light of a computer monitor, a young man can be seen, clearly angry about something, "fucking hell! Perfect timing for this thing to stop working" On the computer is a text document that appears to be some kind of homework or assignment, but the screen is frozen and doesn't react to his annoyed clicking and typing.
"Man, this assignment is due tomorrow, and I can't even work with this piece of shit computer!"
The young man, who looks to be about 18 years old sat on a desk that while by no means big takes up a significant amount of space in this tiny apartment, on it a PC, a couple of notebooks and an electronic clock that points out that it is currently 12:06 AM "Due today i guess" He says half-jokingly, a quick look around the room reveals that he is not the most orderly person in the world, with clothes thrown around the room and food wrappings in some places, It could be worse, he thought yet currently he has bigger problems than the state of his room, that being the broken computer and due assignment he was so mad about a few moments ago, taking a deep breath to regain his cool he starts to think about what is next.
Okay, he thought, let me think about this, my university is already fed up with me always turning stuff in late and this is probably the last chance I'll get. And I won't be able to write it here, where can I go?
He desperately wracked his brain for a solution that could fix his issue yet had few options, he had no friends close by, as he had left his home country for better education and had yet to make new friends here, therefore nobody he knew would lend him a computer, and he didn't have the money at hand to buy one, even if the shops were open this late at night, he truly was in a rough spot.
"Mom was so right, all this procrastination would fuck me over some day" he said in a defeated tone. This was an issue he has had for a long time, early in his years he was somewhat smarter than other kids and as these things tend to go it got to his head, and in his teens started leaving things to the last minute because he couldn't be bothered, or had better things to do like play video games, it had worked out somehow this far but it was bound to backfire eventually, now the time had come, and it left him with few options and even less time.
I'm truly screwed this time huh, is what passed through his head when he threw himself on his mattress and tried to forget for a little while all the problems he was currently facing, it worked for a moment, but soon the anxiety he was avoiding started to creep into his mind and all of a sudden, he felt a pressure in his chest and got up. "I can't stay here; I'll go for a walk to clear my head a little."
As he got up, changed for some outdoor clothes and grabbed his phone, wallet and keys he left his apartment and got into the elevator, his room was in the 5th floor and very shortly he was outside in the dead of the night, the cool air easing his worries a bit as he walked wherever the wind took him, this city was quite big, and although he had been here for close to a year there were still areas nearby he didn't know, streets he hadn't passed or hadn't really paid attention to, observing his surroundings combined with the midnight atmosphere eased his mind a little.
He couldn't help but wonder though, how his parents would react when he got kicked out of uni, would they be mad? Most definitely, disappointed? For sure, it was one of the things he hated the most, the feeling that you have disappointed someone was crushing for him, but he had to face the music this time, there was no getting out of this one, it was as he was building up the courage to call his mom and tell her what will probably happen that he got too absorbed in his phone and didn't pay attention when crossing the street, suddenly he was blinded by the light of a speeding truck barreling toward him, and time seemed to stop for a moment.
Ahh shit Is all he managed to think before the truck crashed into him and he died.
