Those are the only series I will reveal until we get further in the story. So for now let's get right into it!
Chapter 1: Locked Away
"The Multiverse is a place where possibilities are vast for the concept of heroes. Those that will cross life and death to save a life. Those who will kill millions to achieve peace...those who will follow their own agenda. So long as they all can save a life or stop evil, they don't care what they do"
"Well, heroes are what this world needs now. A rising force is threatening to destroy it after it has been treated to them as a prison. Though you all may view it as the same, I assure you all that heroes are what this world needs now. Even if life has tortured you all with every fiber of its existence, please rise once more my heroes. Break the chains of life and death, and save this lost world..."
"Hey...I think she's waking up!"
"Finally!"
Those voices were nothing but distorted warbles in Bambietta Basterbine's ears. Slowly opening her eyes, she took in the sight of bright and reddish colors. Must've been the clothing, Bambietta's vision was blurry too
As things were clearing up, she took in the sight of the boys closest to her. The teenager looked to be of Asian descent with short and spiky black hair as well as a firefighter's uniform. There was also the fact that he was barefoot.
The man behind him had bright pink hair and a black jacket that didn't leave much for her imagination. He wore knee-length trousers, a scale-patterned scarf, and black sandals. There was also the weird red mark on his right shoulder
"You have no idea how long we've been waiting for you to wake up!" The pink-haired boy said
Bambietta blinked slightly, taking in their appearance for a bit before deciding to speak up "Who...are you two?"
The black-haired boy flinched slightly at how blunt she was but shook it off quickly. "We probably should've led with that first. My bad. My name is Shinra Kusakabe. Proud Fire Soldier of Special Fire Force Company 8"
"And I'm Natsu Dragneel, A Fairy Tail Wizard" Natsu smiled
Bambietta tilted her head slightly in tired confusion. She'd never heard of a Fire Force or a Company 8. Just what the hell was going on?
"You feeling ok by the way? I don't think I've ever seen someone with grey skin..."
Last she remembered she had lost to that overgrown mutt of a Soul Reaper captain and then she...Giselle, Lil, Candice, Meni...
"Who's Gigi?" Shinra asked out of curiosity. "You kept muttering her name while you were unconscious"
Then like a ticking time bomb, Bambietta exploded in anguish and horror as her mind caught up to the tragedy she had endured before arriving at this lost place
"Woah woah hey what's wrong?" Shinra approached her in concern. Natsu meanwhile looked disturbed. She had just woken up and already she was freaking out. Just what the hell happened to her before she got here?
"Hey, what's wrong? We heard screaming!"
Bambietta had heard 4 more voices rapidly approaching her but she didn't care. Letting out another large shriek, Bambietta released a giant wave of Reishi from her body
One of the new arrivals, a dark-haired boy with a white shirt wearing a ring, eyes widened in alarm at the sheer volatile feeling of her Reishi. "Everyone get back!"
Soon the building was engulfed in a gigantic explosion. Shinra quickly regained his footing in the air by releasing the flames in his feet while Natsu quickly plummeted to the bottom
The second of the new arrivals, a golden and purple bipedal fox, floated out of the smoke cloud with severe burns on his arms while the dark-haired boy flew out of the smoke with a blonde-haired girl in his arms
"Ban are you alright?!" The dark-haired boy called out but out of the smoke came only a charred body with crimson pants and shoes remaining on his body. His eyes widened in horror at the sheer destruction the girl had managed to cause. Quickly he turned to Shinra and asked "Shinra! Just what happened when she woke up?!"
"I don't know I'm just as confused as you! One minute she was clueless like the rest of us and the next minute she's freaking out!" Shinra said
"Yuta" The bipedal fox floated down to Yuta who had safely landed on the rooftop of a nearby building. "I do not believe it would be wise to let her freak out in such a manner. If we allow her to continue she may raze this entire place to the ground before we even figure out where we are"
Special-Grade Jujutsu Sorcerer, Yuta Okkotsu furrowed his brow in thought until the woman he held in his arms decided to speak up. "Yuta...can we help her?"
Yuta and the bipedal fox looked at her in surprise while Shinra shot down towards them. "I was thinking the same thing. Whatever she went through before she came here messed her up badly. I don't want to see anyone go through suffering like that. So I want to help her" He agreed. After all, the poor Quincy was obviously suffering. If he didn't save her from her rampage then what kind of hero would he be?
The blonde woman nodded and looked up at Yuta. "I know I can't do much...I'm powerless like you guys. But I don't like seeing someone suffer something can be done about it..."
Yuta couldn't deny that he was conflicted. On one hand, though he quickly figured out that what Bambietta had used to fill the area was not Cursed Energy, the volatile and cold feeling he got from her Reishi still unnerved him. She was a danger and if so she needed to be put down. But on the other hand, she had been sent here with the rest of them for a reason. If Shinra was telling the truth then there was a chance to help her, as difficult as it may be
"Kyubi...what do you think?"
Kyubi, S-Rank Mysterious Tribe Yo-Kai, stared back up at where they had left the distraught Quincy. "I'm not going to pretend that I share a similar understanding of the emotions of humans. However, if you do decide to try and save her I'll be here to make sure that you all don't die"
Yuta frowned at Kyubi's mysterious nature and sighed before placing the blonde girl down. Standing back up, he and Kyubi quickly noticed a second flare of energy before a third building exploded in flames.
"Come on! If you want to fight then let's go!" Natsu yelled out in the building wreckage before he rushed towards Bambietta. At this point, her pupils had dilated and her breathing was ragged. Everything was quickly becoming a blur for her once more and Natsu's yells were warbles. All she could mumble at this point was "Gigi...Gigi"
Yuta watched as Bambietta jumped out of the original ruined building to meet Natsu head-on. No more thinking or hesitating. They needed to act out
"Shinra let's go! We'll help Natsu out! Kyubi try and find Ban if you can and protect Faith!" Yuta ordered grabbing his katana before rushing off towards Natsu and Bambietta. Shinra quickly followed behind him while Kyubi picked up Faith
"Be safe all of you!" Faith called out to them. Kyubi, however, said nothing before he faded out of sight
"Yuta what's the plan?" Shinra called out
"Flank and subdue her. We can't risk calling her if we truly want to help her but at the same time we don't know the exact range of her explosions" Yuta explained flaring his cursed energy. "We'll just have to hope we're enough to bring her to her senses"
Up ahead, Natsu and Bambietta were locked in a clash of fists. Bambietta had been deprived of her sword upon her arrival and though she may be distraught and desperate currently her Blut Arterie-powered punches were still enough to give Natsu pause. Natsu had to grit his teeth in pain every time he blocked her strikes.
"Fire Dragon Iron Fist!" Tanking an explosive punch with his arm Natsu socked Bambietta in the gut sending her skidding across the rooftop they were on. "I knew there was something off the way you smelled. It was disgusting like a corpse and at the same time there's still a spark of life inside you that I can smell"
Bambietta said nothing though the way she was rapidly trembling quickly implied that she did not like what she was hearing.
"I don't know who this Gigi girl is but I'm guessing she's why your like this now" Natsu deduced. He would've kept going but a sudden shriek from Bambietta caught him off guard as she threw an orb of Reishi at him. However, Shinra shot right past him at speeds that left him stunned. He wasn't alone either as Bambietta was straight-up shocked at how Shinra shot right through her orb without even giving it time to explode. At that same moment, she felt Shinra's foot collide with her face and all she felt was air
"Woah Shinra that was awesome! Your magic is amazing!" Natsu called out in awe
Shinra, however, looked confused at Natsu's words. "This isn't magic it's my Pyrokinesis"
That in turn, made Natsu confused. "So it's like my magic?"
"He'll explain when this is over" Yuta interrupted the two as he rushed past them towards Bambietta. From the looks of it, Shinra's attack didn't leave any noticeable marks but her movement to stand back up was sluggish. 'So she can still feel pain'
In truth, the light blue patterns of Reishi were flowing through Bambietta's skin via Blut Vene. However, the Reishi was feint and finite unable to power the Blut Vene for its full effect. She had wasted a lot in her initial freak-out and her punches with Natsu. Not to mention he, Yuta, and Shinra weren't giving her any moments to absorb the Reishi in the surrounding area. With Giselle Gewelle to order her around, Bambietta had been fighting purely off of her despair.
Honestly, despite his initial doubts, Yuta had been disgusted at the state Bambietta was in and had grown a slight hatred for whoever was able to commit such an atrocity. Now wasn't the time to worry about that though. Shinra and Faith wanted to save her, and admittedly, so did Yuta. So that's what they're gonna do
Coming up on Bambietta's side, Yuta swung his katana down on Bambietta's side piercing what was left of Blut Vene and the flesh of her arm. Bambietta barely registered Yuta's presence before Shinra re-entered the battle, kicking her legs out from under her. Not giving her a chance to set up another explosion, Yuta brutally smashed his fist into Bambietta's head sending her further into the building they were on.
Weakly, Bambietta raised her hand towards Yuta and Shinra, charging Reishi up to form a Heilig Pfeil. However, it sputtered out as quickly as it formed
"Fox Hunt" Bambietta's eyes widened at the new voice. The formerly charred human, now identified as the Fox Sin of Greed Ban, stood next to her smiling deviously with his hand in front of her. "That was mean of you to burn me like that. Though I will take this delicious new power as an apology gift"
"Gigi..." Bambietta could barely hold her body anymore and soon the feeling of unconsciousness took her once more
Ban's ecstasy-filled smile quickly turned into a frown at the reminder of what they were dealing with. Faith and Kyubi had quickly informed him of what they were dealing with and he had been quite disgusted thinking back to the demonized Holy Knights.
Picking her up in his arms, Ban quickly jumped out of the hole. Yuta was waiting patiently at the edge of the building but Shinra was gone. "Where's the little devil?"
"I sent him off with Natsu to check on Faith and Kyubi" Yuta answered simply before taking his gaze to Bambietta's unconscious form. "I know Shinra and Faith wanted to save her but I don't understand how we can do that. I'm not even sure if she's still alive"
"Oh, she is. If she wasn't I wouldn't be feeling any power from her" Ban answered as he laid Bambietta on the ground. "Her power's contaminated. Likely someone else has layered theirs over her own and warped her into this"
Yuta's eyes widened a bit but then an idea grew in his head. "Then it can be possible to revert her power back to its original state?"
"What are you talking about?" Ban tilted his head in confusion
"My power is known as Cursed Energy. It embodies the Negative Emotions of humans and turns them into power" Yuta explained, but chose to leave out Curses in his explanation. If his current theory was correct after all, then Ban would have no idea what he would be talking about. "However, there is a technique those with Cursed Energy can learn known as the Reverse Cursed Technique. It turns the negative energy into positive energy and allows us to heal our bodies" A dark-pink aura soon surged to life in Yuta's hand. "Though her powers aren't the same as mine, they function on a similar level to mine. If possible I could use the Reverse Cursed Technique on her body and expel the energy that's warping her own. "
"Huh," Ban was impressed. Cursed Energy was a lot more complicated than Magic Power and Yuta would probably King's Tree a run for its money. "Well then in that case, while you get rid of the power that's controlling her-" Ban dug his nails into his hand drawing blood. "I can use my blood to heal her body back to normal"
Yuta looked at Ban in slight concern. Even if he suspected Ban to have a high-healing factor like Special-Grade curses, if how he survived Bambietta's explosion was any indication, he really didn't like how Ban blatantly injured himself without any regard for his own well-being. Nevertheless, he put his personal feelings aside and got right to work. He placed his aura-filled hand on Bambietta's body while using other his hand to open her mouth so Ban could drip his blood into her mouth.
Bambietta was quickly getting sick of how she kept waking up to images of horrible quality. Not to mention the intense headache she was having now. Looking around, she faltered slightly at the blood-red sky and numerous dark-colored buildings that filled her vision. It almost reminded her of Soul Society if not for the shattered moon above. Seriously where the actual hell was she?
Slowly standing up, Bambietta gripped her head in pain as the headache intensified upon her movement
"No no no sit back down! You're still recovering! You need rest" Bambietta heard someone speak and felt a small delicate hand pull her back into a sitting position
"Least your awake. I was starting to think Natsu punched you a bit too hard"
"Oh give me a break I already got an earful from Faith when she heard about it"
"She is more protective of us than I gave her credit for"
Slowly, Bambietta's visage unclouded itself and she was greeted by the sight of numerous men and one...fox...thing. She didn't know what that was. What did catch her attention though, was the varying levels of power she felt from most of them, including the fox thing. Well except for the black-haired kid and the girl next to her. She didn't sense anything from them
"Well now that she is awake, we can start by introducing ourselves. I'm Yuta Okkotsu, a Special-Grade Jujutsu Sorcerer of Jujutsu High" Yuta said
"Jujootsu. Is that a type of magic?" Natsu misspelled in confusion
Yuta chuckled in slight amusement at Natsu's confusion. "It's Jujutsu Natsu. And no. Jujutsu Sorcers are users of Cursed Energy. We specialize in eliminating curses who are beings made of negative emotions" Bambietta made a slight connection of curses to hollows in her head while Yuta spoke "Which actually brings up a question I have for you Kyubi" Yuta turned to look at the fox yokai who had deigned to look out at the scenery of buildings before shifting his eye toward him
"Throughout the time we've been together, I've sensed a mass amount of cursed energy from you. And unlike Bambietta's energy which was only cold due to a second presence, yours is completely original. So I have to ask, are you a Cursed Spirit?" Yuta's once calm and friendly gaze quickly turned cold and unfeeling as a hint of danger infected his presence. Natsu, Ban, and Bambietta's eyes widened at the sudden ominous pressure while Shinra and Faith looked visibly terrified at his sudden change in demeanor. Bambietta turned her head and found a hint of surprise in Kyubi's eyes but it left as soon as it appeared.
"If you are worried that I'm going to end up hurting you or your little friends, then such worry is unnecessary. I will not deny that I share a familiarity with the Curses you know but I myself am not one. I am known as a Yo-Kai" Kyubi calmly explained. Yuta's demeanor did little to change but the pressure around him at least dissipated little by little.
"Though they can be born from lingering regrets, Yo-Kai are usually created from the deaths of living beings. Then there are cases of Yo-Kai having been born in the Yo-Kai world. I myself am such a case. I've grown a bit too attached to the human world and chose to stay there as a guardian spirit of sorts. So I do not need your hostility towards me. Especially after I protected Faith when you asked me too" Kyubi glared right back at Yuta and initiated an intense staredown that lasted for a while. Ban looked on in slight amusement while Natsu, Shinra, Faith, and Bambietta tensed up ready to defend themselves if need be.
Thankfully, the ominous pressure completely disappeared and Yuta's smile returned. "Your right Kyubi, I'm sorry. I just had to make sure you meant no harm. I've heard Foxes can be quite mysterious and sly beings"
Kyubi rolled his eyes in annoyance. "Like I haven't heard that stereotype before"
"Are you two done now?" Ban asked
"Yeah sorry. We're done. You all can introduce yourselves" Yuta assured.
"Cool, I'll go first then. Names Ban, Bandit Ban or Immortal Ban if you want an official title" Ban playfully waved his hand in a greeting
"Wait your immortal?!" Natsu and Shinra exclaimed in shock
"Oh, so that's how you managed to survive the explosion earlier" Yuta realized while Bambietta looked on in disbelief. She honestly could not believe what she was hearing. Sure Soul Reapers and his majesty Yhwach had long lifespans but even then they were incapable of living forever. Immortality? It's bullshit!
"Yup. Drank from the Fountain of Youth and now I can't die. It's no big deal" Ban said though from the tone of his voice, it was more than a big deal. However, he wasn't willing to elaborate any further on it as he sat back down in his spot on the roof
"Well if you say so" Shinra looked at him before flashing a smile towards everyone. "I'm Shinra Kusakabe of Special Fire Force Company 8"
"Oh yeah you said something about being a Superhero of your world" Yuta remembered
"Your a real-life superhero?" Natsu questioned and Bambietta slightly cringed at that. Her image of Superheroes wasn't as big compared to the others, like Meninas McAllon, but even then that image had been ruined thanks to Mask De Masculine if he even counted.
"Well not exactly. See my world possesses people capable of creating fire, controlling fire, or being consumed by fire" Shinra's tone grew slightly somber at that and the others, minus Kyubi and Bambietta, couldn't help but be a bit concerned considering his boisterous and confident demeanor earlier. "Those who are consumed by fire are known as Infernals and it's our job in the Special Fire Force to put them the rest. It's because of incidents like those that I strive to be the hero people can rely on!" Shinra's smile returned to full force and Yuta couldn't help but smile at his determination
"Me next! I'm Natsu Dragneel, a Dragon Slayer Wizard of the Fairy Tail Guild" Natsu proudly declared
"Wait you slay dragons?" Ban inquired curiously.
"Well, I haven't slain one yet. Not like I want to. Other than Acnologia I don't want to just randomly slay a dragon that did nothing to deserve it" Natsu smiled and Bambietta couldn't help but cringe at Natsu's earnest nature. Yuta and Ban, however, made a mental note of this "Acnologia" as Natsu had singled them out
"Even so, nice to meet a fellow magic user. Here I thought I'd be all on my lonesome" Ban smirked
"That just leaves you two now" Shinra smiled towards Faith and Bambietta. Bambietta had just been left alone in her thoughts while everyone else had been introducing themselves. They saved her and even then her mind was still in turmoil.
She flinched when she felt Faith place a careful hand on her shoulder and showed her a reassuring smile. "If you need more time to recollect yourself, that's ok. I can go before you if you want"
She only got verbal silence for a minute but Faith let out a mental sigh of relief when Bambietta slowly nodded her head. Standing up to look presentable towards the otherworlders, she gave them all a quick bow. "My name is Faith. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you much, but because I do not remember much. My mind has been a total haze ever since I came here and the only thing I remember is my name: Faith"
Bambietta blinked slightly at that. Faith had been so unnecessarily kind to her and yet she was cursed with amnesia. It was kind of cruel when you think about it. She may not even remember why she wishes to be so kind. It could just be instinct for at this point
More questions racked Bambietta's mind but there was no more time to dwell on them as all eyes fell on her now. She looked up to Faith who gave her a simple "Breath" gesture. Taking a deep breath, Bambietta finally stood up with a tense frown. "My name is Bambietta Basterbine. I'm a Quincy of the Wandenreich's Sternritter"
"What's a Quincy?" Natsu asked curiously
Bambietta narrowed her eyes at Natsu slightly but nonetheless answered for him "Quincy are humans born with Spiritual Powers. Though are pure-blooded kind may have dwindled throughout the years due to certain Soul Reapers". Bambietta did not miss how Kyubi had involved himself in the conversation again she said that. "Quincy who've achieved a certain level of strength can be promoted to the Sternritter and given a Schrift. A power correlating to a specific letter" Bambietta then held up her finger and charged up a small Reishi orb. "My Schrift is E-The Explode. I can detonate my Reishi in any direction"
"Is that right? So that's how you managed to make your own power explode. Packs a hell of a punch too" Ban nonchalantly said causing Shinra to blanch a bit.
"Well if that's the case, then was that cold 'Reishi' layered over yours the result of a Schrift as well?" Yuta carefully asked, wincing when saw Bambietta visibly tense and her frown turned into a grimace.
"Y-yeah...it was. One of my...friends" Bambietta practically spat out the word friends in hate "Giselle Gewelle is the designated Z-The Zombie. Her power lets her use her blood to infect people into her own personal zombies. "She used that power...to kill..." Bambietta could barely finish before tears stained her vision. The horror of it all catching up to her
Natsu and Shinra frowned at the reminder of what she used to be while Ban and Yuta's faces grew cold. Kyubi said nothing like always and Faith gave Bambietta a reassuring side hug
Bambietta was half-tempted to punch Faith off of her but right now...she kind of needed this. "Though you two did save me...so I'll say this" Bambietta wiped her tears and bowed before them. "Thank you for saving me"
Shinra smiled and gave her a thumbs-up. "Anytime. It's what a hero does after all"
"We don't need your thanks," Kyubi said bluntly
"She doesn't need YOUR thanks, you barely helped buddy!" Natsu comically snapped at Kyubi though he was ignored
"Meh, no big deal. I just didn't want you to explode on me again if you decided to stick around" Ban waved her off
"I'd be ashamed of myself if I let you suffer like that. I'm glad your okay now" Despite his initial grievances about her, Yuta could see a bit of good in Bambietta. What she went through was a fate he wouldn't wish on anyone else and he was glad to have saved her from it. "Now that introductions are finished, let's get back to the proper situation at hand"
Bambietta wiped her few remaining tears and looked up at the blood-red sky while Ban said "Just where the hell are we? This place honestly makes no sense"
"Oh yeah, I've been meaning to ask. Before Bambietta exploded" Bambietta slightly blushed in embarrassment while Shinra continued "Did you four find anything out about this place?" He asked Yuta, Ban, Kyubi, and Faith
Sadly they all shook their heads. "It was the same as our view now. Buildings upon buildings" Kyubi said
"Well then no use standing here" Natsu stood up and approached the edge of the rooftop. "If the buildings don't give us anything then let's check the streets. We're bound to find something if we keep looking" He smirked confidently before jumping down
"Fool. We need a plan before we walk off aimlessly" Kyubi berated
"Well it's better than just sitting around and doing nothing" Shinra smiled before jumping after Natsu "Natsu wait for me!"
Kyubi face-palmed at their stupidity while Yuta chuckled nervously. Ban gave a small laugh before jumping after them "Join the club" He playfully sounded out as he fell
"I'm sure everything will be alright Kyubi. Maybe it would be better to have more faith in them?" Faith asked nicely. Kyubi said nothing for a bit before picking up faith and floating down to join the others 'I'm definitely going to regret this'
Yuta was about to jump after them until he looked back and saw Bambietta standing there silently. "Are you coming Bambietta?"
"You sure you want me along?" Bambietta asked. "I'm not sure you'd want someone like me in your group after all"
Yuta stayed silent and stared at Bambietta before sighing. "Look Bambietta, I don't know what you went through with this Sternritter but I'm sure you have friends you can return to right?"
'Yeah sure..."friends"' Bambietta wanted to gag at even thinking the word. "I guess..."
"Then fight for them. Fight to make it back for them. I don't know what you've done in your past life but the fact of the matter is you've got a second chance at it now. And it's up to you on how you want to use it" Yuta advised as he placed a friendly hand on her shoulder. "If you need anything, feel free to come to me. I'll help however I can"
Bambietta stared at Yuta in surprise as the boy offered his aid to her. Aid she really did not deserve to have but was stunned nonetheless.
"Now then let's hurry up and rejoin the others before they leave us behind. Okay?" Yuta said
After a long minute of silence, Bambietta gave Yuta a small smile and nodded. Smiling back, Yuta and Bambietta then jumped off the roof to join the rest of the group. Unaware of the massive gleaming eyes watching them with 6 symbols on its chest in the form of black and blue clovers, a green 3, a cyan dragon, and a pink fairy. A grumble emerged from the massive being as it slowly began to stalk towards the Otherworlders
Fight on Heroes for all of our sakes...
And Chapter 1 of A World Once Lost... is done! I'm honestly shocked at how much motivation I had to finish this chapter in the span of a single day lol. It may not be perfect but I'm proud of it. I might struggle with the sheer amount of characters being added here but I'm up for the challenge. Especially with the other stories I'm planning. And as for the monster watching them, they're may or may not be a few hints towards new characters on him.
