Sonic and Joker meet Byleth after his reveal in Smash, People are a bit cold to his inclusion in Smash as yet another sword-wielding fighter but the two fighters who know how it feels to be enemy number one give him a spot at their table in the smash cafe.
"So you were also given the cold shoulder by people due to things you can't control?" asked Byleth
"Yeah, it's perfectly normal to have people hating on you for petty things...I still get hate letters from the 06 days. You shouldn't let the haters affect your mood cause by the end of the day they are just that, haters." Sonic says as he eats another chili dog "Joker, am sure you got some friendly things to say for our new friend, right?"
"I had to deal with being judged by my criminal record when I first came to school, I know how it feels to be judged unfairly."
"Criminal record? What was it that you did?"
"Punched a guy trying to assault a woman sexually. He was a politician so he had ways to slime his way out of trouble...Thankfully I managed to get revenge in my own way afterwards."
"So Byleth, you're a teacher, right? Got any stories to tell," asked Sonic
"Oh yes, I work in the monastery as a teacher for the students. I enjoy my work greatly. They all bring a smile to my face."
"A teacher that actually does his job, if only more teachers were like that," says Joker
"I honestly never had an education, I mostly learned things from Tails who was already pretty educated...I never stopped to ask where he learned his stuff from, to be honest with you," says Sonic
"I mainly teach combat and leadership skills to my students, am not a skilled mathematician or writer. I think most of the students are learning what I offer well enough.
It's been about a week since Sonic and Joker welcomed Byleth into Smash when the public was primarily cold and Sonic was crashing at Tails' place like he usually does when he needs a place to stay. He was cozy on the guest bed laid out for the blue blur by his yellow friend when suddenly said friend walked in with a box. He walked towards the blue hedgehog and called out.
"Sonic, wake up! someone sent something for you!"
The blue speedster wakes up about as fast as he could, while he enjoyed sleeping in he is always ready to move when the need arises. he leaped out of bed then landed in front of his two-tailed friend and yawned.
"Sup, Tails?"
"This box was sent here by people who claimed you helped their teacher? I never knew you visited schools."
"Teacher?" Sonic was confused but quickly comes to the realization that it must be from Byleth. "Oh yeah, that Byleth guy who just joined Smashed recently is a teacher...I wonder what this box is about."
Sonic takes the box from Tails and opens it up inside was a cake, the most beautifully crafted thing Sonic had ever seen. Inside the box along with the cake was a note. he picked it up and began to read it aloud.
"From the students of Garreg Mach, we thank you for being supportive of our teacher Byleth, both you and Joker received a cake baked with the help of each student and a weapon forged by our finest blacksmith as an extra gift. Byleth told us of your past experience with swords and have sent a near replica of the same sword you used during your days as a knight, We couldn't find a way to make it talk like your old one but hopefully, you'll be happy with the blade in it's current state...we still don't believe a sword could actually talk but the stories about this Excalibur were entertain- Wait they remade Excalibur!?" Sonic exclaims
"I think that explains this longer package, it's quite heavy." Tails carried in what had to be the box for the sword in question. Sonic quickly took the box and opened it on the spot and in no time flat he drew the sword from its box and sure enough it looked just like Excalibur! It even had a face like the old one.
"Whoa, never thought I'd hold a sword like this again...Byleth's kids sure know how to make a guy's day..." Sonic stares at the sword with a smile on his face. "...Best of all I finally have some solid proof that 'dream' was real!"
"Sonic, not this dream talk again...you've just read too many fantasy books and dreamt that adventure up," Talis said
"Believe me or not you have to admit I'd make a great swordsman...I wonder what Joker got."

The idea for this story came about a while back, I don't remember when or how I came up with the idea of Sonic and Joker comforting Byleth after his Smash reveals had some people salty that yet another fire emblem sword fighter had entered Smash. Obviously am very late for this story but I felt like if I had to get this idea out of my head I figured for my first fanfic I'd start with an idea I had for some time. While it's not perfect and am unsure if I'll even continue writing fanfics a week from now I wanted to get my feet wet and actually write a story after reading some fanfics last night. Now I have to give myself a break as I spent most of the day working on this short little story and it's time to move on. Thank you for reading and feel free to give me a critique on my first story.
