The Guardian Returns Ch. 03

Later that night it was the same dream with the Gyaos and Gamera saving Asagi. This time however the Gyaos that was flying towards Asagi as Gamera holdings the building stops and killed by and unrecognizable shadow. Then, it turns towards them ready to kill them as well. All of a sudden a bright light blinded everyone.

Asagi wakes up and notices it is about two in the morning. She decides to go and check on Gamera to see if he is sleeping better than she was. Only, he was no longer on the couch.

She instinctually grabs her charm and concentrated; wondering if this would still work. When she opens her eyes, Asagi can see that she is standing on the edge of a building looking down on the streets. After she closed her eyes and opened them back. She knows where Gamera is.

.oOo.

On top of the apartment building, Gamera watches over the city. He always enjoyed the breeze on his face, remembering what it was like to fly.

"Couldn't sleep?" he asks knowing who is standing not far behind him.

"No," Asagi answers, standing right there in her pajamas. "I've been having dreams about the last time I saw you."

"Been having the same ones," he tells her, still staring into the city.

"Since I first arrived here," They say the last part in unison.

Gamera chuckles, "I often wonder if they were my nightmares or yours."

"Do you know what that thing was?" Asagi clenches the talisman. "I mean the shadow and the light?"

"I'm afraid not. Whatever that shadow was, it was powerful and more evil than anything I've ever encountered. As for the light I could sense it was pure, I think it tried to save us from the shadow."

"Do you know where we are?"

"It's Terra. Another Terra. Just not ours. That much I know for certain."

"How about why you appear human?"

"Not sure," that question hurt him. "I used to do so much as a kaiju, now I don't think I can even fly anymore."

"Is that why you're up here because you can't fly."

"Yes, it's just the wind blowing onto me from high above the ground brings back memories." Asagi walks up to stand beside him. Gamera turns to look her in the eyes.

"Why should it matter that you can't fly?" she tells him. "You can still do good things. I mean you saved me from Zedus." She smiles at him thankfully and he smiles back.

At that moment Asagi felt something grab her leg and pull her off the edge. Gamera looks to see Zedus holding Asagi by the ankle in one hand and clinging to the side of the building with the other.

Before Gamera could do anything Zedus leaps to the side of the building across from them still holding on to Asagi.

Gamera was looking at him with hatred. "WHAT THE SHELL ARE YOU DOING!"he yells at him.

"I just thought I'd try something," Zedus hisses before showing a wicked smile. "In the alley I remembered that when I hurt you she got hurt as well." He looks at her and she returns a look of horror and glances down, realizing what he was going to do.

"NO! IT DOESN'T WORK LIKE THAT!" Gamera yells, worried for his friend's safety.

"Maybe not but I did overhear your little conversation and just knowing that you can't help this human filth will bring me more than enough joy," he laughs just as he lets go of his grip around Asagi's ankle.

Gamera jumps off the building to try and catch her. Asagi sees this and thought He might survive the fall, but I have no chance. She closes her eyes knowing that this is it.

After a few moments Asagi realizes that she should have hit the ground by now. Opening her eyes, she looks into the green orbs of Gamera. She is in his arms.

She looks back down to see that they were only a foot away from hitting the street. Gamera is flying. The woman is shocked but not as shocked as the man sitting on a bench holding a half empty bottle. The man looks at the bottle then pours out what was left.

Asagi looks back into Gamera's eyes and smiles. "You saved me again."

"It's my job." Gamera returns the smile. "I am a Guardian after all," he then looks back at Zedus who is still clinging on to the side of the building.

Gamera gives him the fiercest look he has ever given any other being. He flies back up, still holding onto Asagi until they are at eye level with each other.

Zedus is frightened knowing that he had just made the protector of Atlantis mad. He makes a desperate attempt to attack Gamera with his tongue, but Guardian just catches it in one hand while still hanging onto Asagi with the other.

The Guardian glares at Zedus for a moment before pulling on the tongue and slamming Zedus against the building on the other side of the street. After he lets go, Zedus falls but manages to get a grip on the building again and Gamera set Asagi down on the closest building.

Gamera faces Zedus and flies towards him. Zedus jumps and kicks Gamera in the face. The Guardian was thrown off balance but managed to regain it in time to see Zedus going for another kick. However, a portal opened right between them and Zedus went through it, then it closed.

Gamera turns to Asagi and flies down to hover in front of her. "Are you alright?"

"Yeah, I'm fine," she answers as her savior lands. "Thank you. Again, you saved my life."

"I know," Gamera stares at the charm around her neck. "May I see it?"

Asagi hesitated at first, but she knew it did not belong to her anyway. "Here you go," and hands it to him.

"These were made to assist me in the gyaos infestation," he takes the charm to examine it. "But never thought that someone would try to use it to do harm," he covers the charm with both hands as a faint glow comes from the charm and then stops.

"What did you do?"

"I adjusted the wavelength of the Talisman enough so that you will no longer get hurt when I do. It can still be used to create a mental link but nothing more," Gamera holds the charm out and puts it back around her neck.

"What if you need help?"

"I can take care of myself. I am the Guardian of the Universe after all."

"Okay then." She smiles at this. "Shall we go back inside to rest?"

"You go on ahead. I think I'll go flying for a while." He then runs off the edge of the building, two spots near the bottom of his shell adjust themselves into exhaust ports and Gamera takes off in flight.

Asagi giggles at him as his form gets smaller with distance. The woman then realizes something. "HEY! WAIT! THIS IS THE WRONG BUILDING!"

.oOo.

After jumping through that portal, Zedus looked around frantically trying to figure out what happened and where he was. It appears to be some sort of advanced lab.

"It looks like the test went perfectly." His attention was brought to a tall man with golden hair and red eyes and wearing golden jacket with wings sprouting from his back.

"Who are you?" Zedus asks.

"I am King Ghidorah. And who might you be?"

"The humans named me Zedus."

"I don't remember him. Do you, brother?" this time his attention was brought to a large metal man that resembles a bug with a drill hand.

Next to the bug man is another smaller metal man with single red eye. "I have no records of a Zedus in my files, he doesn't exist, Megalon."

"Not in our universe anyway," Ghidorah acknowledges.

Zedus stars at the golden one in confusion. "What are you talking about?

The King of terror walked up to him. "Tell me. Are you from Terra?"

"Yes," Zedus answered carefully. He has no idea why, but he was uncomfortable being around this Ghidorah.

Ghidorah examines the Frilled man and notices some bruises. "Who did this to you?"

Zedus growls as the name leaves his throat, "Gamera."

"Was he by any chance a goody two shoes Kaiju that kicked you tail?"

"Yesss!"he hissed in anger.

"My friend. I have what the humans would call a business proposition." The former dragon grins at his new ally.
