Well damn, it's been almost a year since I updated this story. Sorry to all of you who thought I had dropped it. Sometimes I get ideas for other stories and it gets easier to write those for a while, apart from that real life also gets in the way of things. Nonetheless I'm back with another chapter. I do want to thank all of you who still followed and favorited the story and sent back feedback. It really helped me get some good ideas going for the future. Anyways that's enough out of me lets get on to the story.
"Those ships." J'onn began as he looked out the windows of the watchtower. "They look familiar." He finished
"From where?" Asked the dark knight as he walked behind his friend.
"They look very similar to those that were used back on mars when my people were still around." The martian explained "But they've been extinct for years."
Batman narrowed his eyes to try and see if he could see any figures from the ships. He had no such luck. "Can you use your powers to find out who exactly is invading?"
The green martian said nothing as he closed his eyes briefly. He reopened them, revealing glowing orange eyes. They stayed that way for a few seconds before returning back to normal. "It's the white martians."
Superman who hadn't said much up until this point stepped forward. "J'onn, who are the white martians?"
"Long ago there were many different species of life on mars. The most predominant were the Green martians and the white martians." Everyone in the watchtower stood by in silence taking in the story. "The green martians were a peaceful people, loving, focused on living good lives with our families. The white martians however, were the complete opposite. They were violent savages who constantly craved violence and destruction.
Eventually a civil war broke out between us and the white martians were exiled into another dimension. It was my understanding that only one white martian remained alive after that." He explained, referring to his sisters husband.
"Though it seems not all of them caught, and now they're here to start a war of sorts." He finished.
Knowing that Manhunter had said his piece Naruto turned to Batman. "Get us back down. We'll continue this later." He ordered. Batman didn't like being told what to do but he could put his pride aside for the time being, there were bigger things to worry about. Soon the four Sternritter members were back in their HQ.
As soon as they walked in they noticed everyone was gathered around the TV in the common room. The media was already reporting on the attack. Ships were being spotted all over the globe. The Justice League had already deployed their members apparently as many of them were seen on camera.
"It's time to go to work." Naruto announced. "The league already mobilized their members and will no doubt be sending more in the next few minutes."
"Who's invading exactly?" Sinestro asked slowly as he watched the cameraman try and get an image of their attackers.
"The white martians apparently." Frost replied as she pushed some strands of hair behind her ear. The yellow lantern frowned in confusion.
"Are you sure? It was my understanding that they had all been wiped out." He asked.
"Apparently not. Some managed to escape their exile to another dimension according to Manhunter, and now they're back to pick a fight." Naruto replied. "Get ready everyone's going to move out."
Five minutes later the entirety of the Sternritter were awaiting their orders.
"Our main priorities are to keep everyone safe and to destroy every ship in the air. If a martian is on you, kill it. We will not be giving them the chance to come back in the future." He told them. The reporter on the TV spoke up and they turned their attention to see what was happening. The ships were shooting down beams of light all over different places of the earth.
"Most likely bringing their soldiers down to begin the main attack." Sinestro began. "If Manhunter wasn't the last of a dying breed before he is now." He finished as his body glowed slightly yellow, indicating he was ready for battle.
"Sinestro, Livewire, and Circe are with me." Naruto said as he started walking outside. "We're going to try and take the ships out. Deathstroke, Frost, and Deadshot are in charge of the rest. There doesn't seem to be any of them here, head to wherever there's the most action. Stay on the ground and protect the citizens. This is our chance to sway people with us." He instructed. Knowing he was done they headed out to do as they were told.
The team scattered. Naruto created clones to take his members who couldn't fly and took off to the skies at amazing speed. After a few minutes of flight they stopped as they approached a ship just above a city.
Circe whistled at the sight. "How do they even get these to hover?" She said next to clone naruto's ear. Her question went unanswered however as Naruto spoke.
"Sinestro try and shoot it down. Let's see what we're up against." The yellow lantern said nothing but raised a fist in the direction of the ship. His ring glowed brightly as multiple yellow blasts were shot at the ships. However as soon as the shots got close enough they broke apart by a force field of sorts protecting the ships.
"Tsk. Thats a powerful shield they have there." Sinestro commented as he took a few more shots. Before anyone else could comment on it an arm of sorts began to move from underneath the ship. It began pointing just under them and the tip started glowing. Particles of light began gathering at the tip.
"It's going to fire into the city." Naruto realized. His truth seeking balls materialized behind him as he dove down. Down below the citizens of Metropolis could only watch in terror as a beam of light began making its way towards them. Luckily for them, as the beam made it's way towards them everything went dark before a loud boom could be heard. The ground shook slightly and the city was lit up again.
Once they could see again they noticed Ashura floating above them. More importantly, the black substance that had covered the city began shrinking until it formed into a staff with a crescent shape at the top end.
"Well damn." Circe muttered as she landed alongside her teammates. "I knew you were strong but this is something else." She said as she walked up and took a look at the staff in his hand. It was flawless, no indication that it had just been used to stop a high powered attack.
The yellow lantern landed besides his leader and looked up. "They haven't fired again." He commented. "Whatever they're using to attack must take a while to recharge before they can fire again."
"Yeah" He was going to continue but stopped as they were encased in a yellow bubble. Circe was going to ask what he was doing when shots began impacting against it. Everyone turned their head left and noticed white martians walking towards them, weapons in hand and shooting at them.
Sinestro collapses the shield and creates a giant fist which he uses to start taking them down. Livewire charges her hands up and begins shooting blasts of lighting at them. Some of the attacks hit their mark while others missed and destroyed pieces of the nearby buildings. Naruto protects his backside using a TSB before appearing in front of the martian that attacked and touched it with his shakujo. As expected the martian had no time to react before he was turned into dust.
The two factions continued trading blows, all the while nearby damages suffered collateral damage. Naruto would have liked for that to decrease but saving the civilians lives mattered a little more than a few buildings.
Naruto heard a noise behind him and turned to attack but stopped as he noticed someone rise from the ground. Manhunter rose from behind a white martian and phased his hands into the martians head. The white creature screamed for a second before dropping to the ground unconscious.
"Out of everyone in the league I expected Superman to be here." Naruto commented as he blocked more shots. J'onn used his density shifting to allow some shots to pass through him.
"He was going to be here, but we saw you were down here helping the people and he was deployed elsewhere." He answered.
"I see. How's the situation with you guys?" Naruto asked. Just because they had separate ideals didn't mean they couldn't be civil during times like this. The time for arguing amongst themselves wasn't now.
"The Justice League has deployed it's available members all around the globe. Batman is currently working on a plan to get passed the force field that the ships generate." He said. Manhunter noticed a large group of martians all coming at them from the same direction and had a plan.
"Ashura. Do you know any fire based attacks? Like us the white martians have a natural weakness to fire." He asked. Naruto nodded affirmative.
"Actually I have one that could really help us out. There's a large horde coming at us, I need everyone to round them up so that they're all facing us. Where the hell are they coming from?" He asked out loud when he saw even more appear.
"They keep sending more down to earth every so often and then take some back up." J'onn answered.
"So they're treating it as a shift of sorts." Sinestro commented as he landed besides them. He had used his powers to create a wall and gathered as many as he could where the rest of them were. Circe and Livewire also tried to gather them but weren't having much luck.
"So we have to take the ships down or else they'll just retreat and send fresh soldiers." Circe commented as she and Livewire also joined them. A red blur caught everyones eyes as martians began being shot towards the group at an alarming rate. Naruto smiled slightly knowing who was responsible for the back up.
"Mind if I join you guys?" Flash asked rhetorically as he stopped in front of the group. He quickly fist bumped Naruto and turned his attention back to the martians. "So why are we putting them all in front of us?" He followed up.
"You're about to see." Naruto commented before he turned to look at J'onn. "I hope you're not too fond of these martians. Have all the civilians been moved from the area?"
Manhunters eyes glowed for a second before he nodded. "Besides us and the martians there's nobody in the city. Only a few casualties." Naruto nodded.
" I never thought I'd ever thank Madara for anything but I have to thank him for this. " He thought to himself before he formed a single hand sign and brought it up to his mouth.
" Katon: Gouka Mekkyaku " Naruto thought before he exhaled. Everyone had to shield their face from the heat that was being generated. The flames covered a very wide range, easily enough to get all the martians in sight. Some of them thought to seek shelter inside the buildings when they saw the flames coming, but it helped very little. The martians outside were burned to a crisp while the martians inside only survived a few seconds longer before the building collapsed and they too shared the same fate.
Naruto slowly stopped the flames, the team allowed themselves to see what had happened. What had once been a small army was now reduced to a pile of black corpses. Some turning to ash while others were crisp. Where as the sound of gunfire and explosions had been heard before, only the sound of the air was present.
"Woah." Flash said summarizing what everyone was thinking. He knew his friend was strong but he had no idea he had this kind of destructive power. Even buildings were no longer standing. It was nothing more than a desalinate wasteland now. The sound of coughing caught everyones attention. Underneath the pile of corpses one badly burned martian was twitching in pain.
Naruto paid it no mind, instead he nodded his head in it's direction and allowed Circe to deal with it. He reached into his pocket and took his phone out to make a call. It rang a couple of times before frosts voice was heard from the other side.
" Hello "
"Frost, how are things going on your end?" He asked.
" Not too bad, but these bitches are everywhere. " She said aggrivated. " It's hard to kill these assholes and keep the people safe "
"Where did you and up and with who?"
" Ivy and I ended up here in Italy. The others headed to other highly populated areas."
"How many ships are there?"
" A few small ones here. " She answered.
"Alright good work. I'll let you get back to it. I'll call you if anything happens." With that he hung up. As he was making his call J'onn was also talking to one of his colleagues. He had a hand up to his ear and was nodding his head every so often.
"Understood." Manhunter replied. "Batman has new information. It would be beneficial if you would return to the watchtower with me as we'll need to continue working together." he explained. The yellow lantern as well as the two ladies turned to look at him waiting for his call.
"Yeah you're right. It'll be a lot easier for everyone if we work together for now. Let's go." Naruto agreed. Not long after he said that a bright beam hit them and they were teleported to the watchtower.
"Well that's new." He commented. Manhunter didn't reply, he merely beckoned them with his hand to follow him. The group walked into the main computer room where batman was already waiting for them. The man was typing something into the computer while pulling up images of the ships on the screen.
"Good, you're here." Batman said. "I've figured out how the white martians' ships use their force field. There's a machine right here." He said as he pointed the mouse to a part of the ship on it's left hand side. "Just underneath the part that shot the giant blast earlier that allows them to use a shield strong enough to reflect everything we've thrown at it so far.
The only issue is getting to it. No matter what we try nothing is strong enough to bypass it. Not even superman." He finished. "The good new however is that we've pinpointed the mother ship. It's the one right above metropolis."
"Huh." Livewire grunted as she looked at the new images. "You'd think the mother ship would be, I don't know… bigger." She said.
"They probably haven't had enough time to create a ship bigger than the ones they have. I assume it was either few really big ships or many smaller ones." J'onn added.
Circe looked at the images before she remembered something she'd seen down on the battlefield. She turned to the blond leader. "Say Ashura." She began getting everyones attention.
"What about your orbs?" Seeing him raise an eyebrow she continued. "From what we've seen they disintigrate anything they touch. So why not use them to get through their defense."
Naruto rubbed his chin in thought. It could work. He's only used it on actual physical objects before but it should be no different.
"In order for it to work I'd have to get close to the ship. Within two hundred feet without being shot at." Luckily for them they had just the guy to help out.
"We can use my ring to set up our own defense against their attacks. My ring isn't as weak as the green lanterns so it can take a lot more damage." He explained while taking a jab at his green counterpart. "We can get within range. From there it's on you."
Batman, still in his seat nodded. "If it works and the force field comes down, Superman, Wonder woman, and myself will join you."
Naruto nodded and turned to Manhunter. "Alright, let's do it. Send us back down." The martian nodded and let them know they'd be watching from here. The moment they made it they would send their forces in.
Once back down Naruto materialized his Truth Seeking Balls. "Let's do it." Sinestro's ring glowed bright before encasing them in a yellow sphere. The only thing not inside were the orbs. They took off into the skies at amazing speed, weaving through blasts coming from the ships.
"Do it Ashura." Sinestro said as they kept getting closer.
Naruto willed his orb to move forward. It impacted with the barrier but didn't go through. Not giving up he willed it to change shape. As it continued to try and push through it took the form of a long spear with two tips at the end. Sparks of electricity appeared around the spear tip as it began pushing it's way through the barrier.
Finally after a few seconds it completely made it through and passed right through the side of the ship. Smoke erupted as the machine that generated their shield blew up.
Up in the watchtower Batman stood up having watched the blond succeed. "Call Superman and Wonder Woman." He ordered as he teleported himself away. J'onn nodded and made the calls. This battle was about to turn around.
Somewhere deep underground
Two figures were watching every major battle happening around the world on a giant screen. The figure smirked as they watched the martians shields be penetrated.
"I never would've pegged Ashura to be the religious type." The first figure said.
"What do you mean?" The other added.
"The kid used those orbs to create a lance to pierce a side of the ship. Up until now it's the only thing to have made it through. Not even the military or the Justice League have been able to do it." The first replied. "What famous lance do you know that was used to pierce something?"
There was a slight pause. "The lance of Longinus?" The figure asked.
"That's right. This kid is even more dangerous than we imagined." The figure said before standing up and walking away. "Be sure to record everything that's happening we'll have to make our move soon."
"Of course miss Waller." The figure said.
Alright I'll end it right there. Let me just say I hope you all had a merry christmas and a happy new year. I hope that this year I can update my stories more frequently than I did last year. That goes double for this story.
