Hey! I'm Sonic! Sonic the Hedgehog! The fastest thing alive! And just one radical Hero! You are probably wondering what just happened in my life. Well, Shads, Shadow the Hedgehog, has just saved the world! I am so proud of him, I could cry! He kicked that Black Doom's butt! He went Super Form and everything! I asked him what had happened before the fight and what he and Black Doom had spoken about before, but, as you can expect, he just grunted as a reply before walking off, saying he had some thinking to do. I actually need to do some thinking myself; seeing Shads come to terms with himself made me realize there has always been something missing, and I intend to find out!
Sonic the Hedgehog closes his diary, taking a heavy sigh before taking the blue book and locking it in his desk drawer, not wanting anyone to know he kept a diary. He has a reputation after all. Sonic is wearing basic blue jeans, his signature shoes, gloves, a black shirt with his blue star logo, and a blue jacket with the letter S on the back. He stands up from his desk, looking around his blue bedroom, taking note of his blue wallpaper, the posters featuring him and his sibling in their band, The Underground, on his wall and his desk are framed pictures of his friends, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Rouge, Shadow, E-123 Omega, Big, Blaze, Cream, Cheese and Vanilla, Charmy, Espio, and Vector, Manic, and Sonia, Mighy and Ray, and his Uncle Chuck, his blue racing car bed, above his bed are some awards from his many won races, the guitar he keeps in the corner and the bookshelf Sonic has at the foot of his bed which he has filled with all kinds of books, on his walls he has banners of blue stars and his own face, on his desk he has a small Bonsai tree because of his love of nature, before looking out of his second-floor window, looking out to the lush green fields of Green Hill, his home. His friends like Amy, Shadow, Rouge, and a few others may live in Station Square, but Sonic likes the green; he loves the look and feel of nature, but that's just his preference; he does not hate or even disagree, with his friends desire to live in the city. With a stretch, Sonic reaches for the blue phone he had charging next to his bed, on his bedside table with his lamp, which he uses to read before going to sleep at night. Sonic unplugs his phone before switching it on to see how much it has actually charged, to see it is at 78% power.
"Are you kidding me? Had this thing charging all morning, and it is only at 78? No matter, it's good enough." Sonic mutters to himself with a sigh; despite being fifteen in the modern day, he has never had a good relationship with technology, not that he would ever shun it; he just has never been great with it. Tails, on the other hand, is a master at that kind of thing! A true prodigy! Just thinking about his little brother makes Sonic smile. He is so proud of the two-tailed fox!
Realizing the time, Sonic suddenly dashes out of his home to Station Square! He has a busy morning today; as reluctant as he is, he has agreed to date Amy Rose, the pink Hedgehog with a massive crush on the blue blur. Sonic has no romantic feelings for the pink girl; seeing her as nothing more than a friend, she is incredible! She is strong, fast, determined, and a hero in her own right. Sonic respects her, likes her even, but love? No, he does not think he could ever love her like she loves him. He only accepted this date because he felt pressured too like Sonic had to give her this date to make her happy and smile; he has always made it one of his goals to see his friends smile.
Once Sonic arrives at the park where he agreed to meet Amy. She is wearing her signature red dress, red and white shoes, gloves, and her red headband. He sees her sitting alone on a bench, looking dejected. Sonic immediately feels a tightness in his heart; he has upset her; he is late, and this is his fault! Sonic feels anger rising in his chest. Anger directed at himself.! If he was not so selfish in writing in some dumb diary, he would have been here! On. Time! Sonic feels his hands turn into fists! He is squeezing them tight! His fists are shaking in rage!
Sonic is then taken out of his rage by a soft hand on his shoulder. He looks up, meeting Amy's green eyes, which are looking into his own. He expected to see anger and rage on her face, but she didn't even look sad. Amy looked worried and scared for her friend. Sonic could see it in her eyes; she had just forgotten about the date. All she cares about right now is making sure Sonic is alright.
"Sonic, calm down, breath, okay? What's wrong?" Amy tried to calm herself to reassure her Hero, but she was too scared of what Sonic could do when enraged. Amy loves her Blue Hero but fears him, but not always; no, when he is so mad, he shakes. His lively blue fur was already a shade darker. Still, once he heard Amy's voice, he took a breath, and his coat turned back to its previous shade, making Amy feel much safer around her Blue Blur.
"Sorry, Ames, must have been a bad chilli dog I had last night!" Sonic says, trying to play his anger off as a joke to calm his frightened friend. Knowing Sonic far too well to keep up this line of questioning, she decides to drop it. Sonic would laugh it off as a joke or just get annoyed and leave; she didn't want either to happen.
"Okay, if you say so, Sonic. Anyway, are you ready for our date?" Amy says, a small smile forming on her face, trying to change the subject. She loves him with all her heart, but sometimes she wishes he would open up more, trusting one of his friends with his worries and concerns. He is like Shadow in that sense, bottling everything up inside, hiding from the world and themselves.
"Anyway, we should start this date off at Twinkle Park, then go to Joe's for a Chilli Dog. How does that sound, Sonic?" Ah, Joe's, Sonic's favourite Chilli Dog place. The spice was perfect, the bun baked just today, and the sausage perfectly cooked. It was Sonic's idea of heaven.
Sonic takes a moment to compose himself, taking another deep breath before putting on his signature cocky smile and giving a thumbs up. "Always ready for a date with my favourite gal!" Sonic says, feeling a tinge in his heart. She is special to him, it's true, but it also hurts to say things like that, feeling like he maybe leading her own when that would never be his intention.
As they walk, Sonic can't help but feel a sense of contentment. He may not have romantic feelings for Amy, but he still cares for her deeply and wants to make her happy. And seeing her smile and laugh as they ride the rollercoasters and play games at the park makes it all worth it.
Eventually, the sun sets, and Sonic and Amy go to Joe's and eat their Chilli Dogs in silence, both feeling tired after their day. As they say their goodbyes, Sonic can't help but feel a sense of relief that the date went well. He knows he'll have to do it again at some point, but for now, Sonic is just glad he could make his friend happy.
With a smile on Sonic's face, Sonic suddenly dashes away at sonic speed! Racing away back to Green Hill, to his home. To rest, sleep, and run again in the morning. His life can be simple, and that is how Sonic likes it: just chilling, enjoying his slow, calm life.
As he runs back to his house, Sonic can't help but think about what he wrote in his diary earlier. Maybe there really is something missing in his life. But for now, he's content with being Sonic the Hedgehog, the fastest thing alive, and a hero to those who need him.
Sonic suddenly is forced to skid to a stop just outside his home. It's Shadow! Shadow the Hedgehog! He is standing outside Sonic's front door! Shadow is standing there with his arms crossed, a frown on his face and a look in his ruby eyes, a look saying he has something to say to the Blue Blur. Shadow is wearing a pair of black jeans, his red and white jet shoes, a black T-shirt, and a black biker jacket with his logo on his left shoulder and the G.U.N. logo on his right shoulder.
"Shadow? What are you doing out here so late at night? Shouldn't you be at home? You know, doing paperwork for G.U.N. or something?" Sonic questions Shadow, clearly confused about why he would be here? At his home, so late in the day.
"I have been waiting for you, Hedgehog. I may have missed you as soon as you left. I have been waiting for you to return" Shadow replied to Sonic in his usual tone, looking into Sonic's eyes with an unbreaking look.
"Oh? What about Shads?" Sonic asked, inquiring why Shadow would want to see him. They have never been the best of friends. Hell, on some days, they are mortal enemies. But Shadow seems calm at the moment, and Sonic would rather not anger The Ultimate Lifeform.
Shadow's eye twitches every time he hears Sonic use that ridiculous name he uses for him. "I would like some coffee first" Shadow puts simply, not wanting to mess with the blue annoyance, but he feels like he is the only one he can talk to.
Sonic lets Shadow into his well-kept house; despite always being on the move, Sonic always sets some time aside for housework. Sonic leads Shadow to his green living room, which is rather bare, with just a sofa, an armchair, a green rug, and a T.V. in the corner with a few game consoles hooked up to it for when he hosts games night for his buddies and himself. He sits Shadow down on the sofa, where Shadow folds one leg over the other and sits back, feeling safe to relax, a luxury he does not feel often. After a minute or two, Sonic returns to the living room from his basic kitchen. Sonic's left hand is a cup of coffee with a lot of milk and sugar. Shadow would never admit it, but he loves anything sweet and is not a fan of anything bitter or sour, but he likes coffee for the shot of caffeine. Sonic knows this about Shadow but knows he does not brag about it, so he keeps it secret, something Shadow is grateful for. In Sonic's right hand is a simple can of Chaos Cola, Sonic's favourite. Sonic gives the coffee. Shadow gratefully takes it before taking a sip. Sonic sits in one of the armchairs before cracking open his can and taking a drink himself. "So, Shadow, what brings you here?" Sonic asks Shadow, using his full name instead of his nickname, because he can tell Shadow is trying to be open with him for once.
"To tell you. You asked me on the day I beat Black Doom what happened between us both." Shadow looks down at his brew as he connects his thoughts together. Sonic stays silent because he knows he should not interrupt Shadow. "Black Doom relieved he is the I came to be. His blood runs through my vines. His black blood. If it was not for the professor, for... Maria, I wouldn't have made the right choice. I was tempted, Sonic. I was close to joining The Black Arms, all for memories" Shadow says in almost a whisper, feeling disgusted with himself. "I almost broke my damn promise to Maria!" Shadow says with a growl before closing his eyes, remembering Maria's last words.
"Shadow, I get of you... Please do it for me... for a better future. For the people who live on that planet... give them a to be happy... Let them live their dreams, Shadow. I know you can do it. That's the reason you were brought into the world. Sayonara, Shadow the Hedgehog"
"Sonic, what I wanted is your professional opinion. And I use the term professional very loosely." And, of course, Shadow had to slip a minor insult in there; that is simply his style. "Am I dangerous to the world?"
"Insult aside. No, you are not. Why would you even think that? As far as I know, you have saved the planet three times! First, when you sacrificed yourself, you stopped the Biolizard from crashing into the world. The second time was when you helped me to stop Neo Metal Sonic. And the third time, you denied your blood to save us all! You put aside your past to save the here and now! Shadow, you are a hero. No matter what, you are a hero!" Once Sonic stopped pouring his heart out for Shadow, putting his ego aside, Sonic noticed he had stood up from his seat, standing as he told Shadow what he believed to be the truth. Sonic then sat back down before taking a sip of his drink. "Sorry about that, Shads; I meant that you are a hero inside and out. Don't let anyone, not even yourself, tell you otherwise!" Sonic takes another sip of his Cola as he sits back, looking at Shadow, who is still looking down at his cup of coffee.
"Thank you, Sonic, that has been playing on my mind since Black Doom. I may not say it often, Sonic, and I may sound like I believe the opposite, but I respect you. You are a valued ally and, sometimes, only sometimes, a friend." Shadow says, looking at Sonic again before chugging down his cup of coffee. Shadow then stands up, keeping eye contact with Sonic as he straightens his jacket. "Sonic, I am around if you ever need an ear, like how you lent me yours. Do you understand me?"
"Of course I do, Shads! And don't worry, there are no issues in this blue head of mine. Just thinking about the wind, my speed, and my next chilli dog!" Sonic says, flashing his trademark smirk toward Shadow! Shadow looks down at the Blue Speedsters, raising a single brow. Shadow can tell Sonic has a problem and either does not want to say anything to him or does not know himself. With a throaty chuckle, Shadow puts his coffee cup down before giving Sonic another look, then walks out, leaving his living room and home.
Sonic lets out a sigh before pulling his legs close to his chest, holding himself sightly. Sonic, despite all his bravado, is feeling cold and alone. He wishes he lived with someone, anyone. Tails, Amy, hell, he would even live with Shadow. He loves his home; it's his, but sometimes, only sometimes, he wishes for someone to tell him he's got someone with him.
After Sonic's little moment, Sonic looks up at the green clock on his wall to see it is past 12 AM. "Huh, I spent more time here than I thought" Sonic says with a yawn and a chuckle before stretching himself out. "I should probably head to bed. I can't let myself get ill now, can I?" Sonic asks no one, not even expecting an answer really. Sonic gets up from his seat before heading upstairs to his bathroom, changing out of his day clothes before changing into his blue pyjamas and heading to his bedroom, looking at his bookshelf at the end of his bed before pulling a novel called "Stone Butch Blues" by an author called by Leslie Feinberg. Book in hand, Sonic pulls himself into his bed before switching on his bedside lamp to give him light. Reaching into his bedside drawer, he pulls out a pair of blue reading glasses and puts them on so he can read himself to sleep. "New book, new dreams. Let's see how this goes." Sonic flips to the first page before starting to read his new book.
