AN: So, even though I usually write a story with Libby having a one sided crush on Molly, I decided to switch it up a little with Molly having a one sided crush on Libby this time! This story takes place between the first and second seasons of TGAMM. Anyway, I hope you enjoy my new story!

A Romance Never Meant To Be

Today was a very important day for Molly McGee. Normally, she would be happy and cheerful for the day, but today was different. She walked down the street lost in thought. For the past couple of days, Molly silently debated on whether or not she she confess her love for her best friend, Libby.

Both, Molly and Libby have been best friends for several months and after everything they had been through together, Molly hoped they could become something more. It was just today when Molly finally gained the courage to tell Libby how she felt, so she called Libby and asked her to meet her at the park.

Throughout her walk, Molly thought about what she should say to Libby. She had never had a crush before and was worried what might happen if she told Libby how she felt. Despite how scared she was, Molly knew that she at least had to try. It wasn't long before Molly made it to the park and took notice of Libby.

"Hey, Libby!" Molly called out for Libby.

Upon noticing her best friend, Libby smiled before she met up with Molly.

"Hi, Molly! How are you?"

"Oh, you know! Just the usual with enhappifying everyone in Brighton!" Molly smiled.

"Well, I'm glad that you your day is going well! So, how come you asked me to meet you here, anyway?" Libby asked, curious.

After taking a deep breath, Molly tightened her grip around the flowers she hid behind her back.

"Libby, we have been best friends for several months, and I can't hide my feelings any longer! You see, I'm in love with you!" Molly confessed much to Libby's surprise. "I love how kind, loving, thoughtful, and caring you are! You always put a smile on my face, and there is a question that I've been wanting to ask you for a long time. Libby, will you be my girlfriend?"

At that moment, Molly revealed the bouquet of flowers. Libby stared at the flowers for a couple of moments in silence, processing what she just heard. Her eyes lowered to the ground, saddened by what she had to say next.

"Listen, Molly. I really am flattered, but I don't really think of you that way." Libby explained, causing Molly's smile to fade. "You see, I kind of see you more as a sister."

Hearing those words felt like a stab to Molly's heart. She should have known Libby wouldn't feel the same about her. It was a dumb idea to begin with. Despite the overwhelming sadness she felt, Molly put on a fake smile as she pretended that everything was fine.

"Oh, that's okay! It was just a random idea I had! It was pretty dumb to assume that we could ever be together!" Molly's voice cracked as she fought back her tears.

"Molly." Libby reached out for Molly in an effort to comfort her.

"Sorry. I have to go now!" Molly turned to leave.

"Molly, wait!" Libby called out for Molly, but it was too late as she turned and ran.

Saddened by what just happened, Molly ran to her house, tears falling from her eyes. She ran up the stairs to the attic, not even acknowledging her family. Once she entered her room, Molly collapsed on her bed and cried on her pillow.

A few hours had went by before the sun set. Molly was about to go to bed and forget what happened today before she heard her phone ring. She picked it up and was shocked to see that it was Libby who was calling her.

It was at that moment when Molly began to panic as her mind was racing with thoughts. Why is Libby calling her? After the way she confessed her feelings, Molly could only assume that Libby is calling to tell her that she doesn't want to be her friend anymore. With a trembling hand, Molly answered the call and held the phone up to her ear.

"H-Hello?"

"Molly?" Molly heard Libby's voice on the other end of the phone. "I didn't get a chance to talk to you after what happened earlier today. Are you okay?"

Truthfully, Molly didn't want Libby to worry about her, so she decided to lie once again. "Oh, sure! I promise that everything is fine! Everything is totally normal!"

Despite how happy Molly was trying to be, Libby didn't believe her lie for a second. "Please don't lie to me. That's exactly what you told me when you and your family nearly lost the house. I know that you are hurting deep down, and I want to help you. You're my best friend, and I can't stand to see you like this. Please, be honest with me for once!"

As Libby begged Molly to be honest, she could hear sobs on the other end of the phone.

"I'm sorry, Libby! You must hate me for what I said to you."

"What? No! It was actually really sweet that you thought of me that way!" Libby assured. "It's just that I'm not interested in being in a romantic relationship. You are an amazing person, Molly, but you deserve someone better than me."

"But I can't think of anyone better than you! You are wonderful and amazing!" Molly explained.

Libby remained silent as she smiled at what Molly said. "You know, before I met you, I didn't think of myself as wonderful or amazing. Ever since Andrea made me an outcast, I never thought I was that great of a person, but that all changed the moment we became friends. That morning when I asked you would be my best friend and you accepted my friendship ended up being the best day of my life. You will always be important to me, romantic relationship, or not!"

Hearing this caused Molly to tear up in joy. Deep down, she knew that Libby would always be important to her too.

"Thank you, Libby! You know, it actually feels kind of nice to let out my emotions after all this time. You have no idea how exhausting it was for me to keep my crush on you a secret!" Molly explained.

Libby giggled. "Believe it or not, you didn't exactly do a good job at keeping it a secret! I already noticed that loving look you gave me when I was performing onstage during Hanukkah! Not to mention that Scratch once told me that you sang a love song on how loving and thoughtful I was."

A blush formed across Molly's face as she couldn't believe that Scratch just told her that. She didn't let it bother her too much as Libby is aware of Molly's crush anyway.

"Guess I wasn't too subtle about it." Molly let out a small chuckle.

"I guess not, but even if I don't feel the same about you, I know that there is someone out there for you." Libby assured.

"I know." Molly replied softly. "Libby? Thank you for being my best friend! I'm so lucky to have a wonderful friend like you!"

Libby smiled. "I feel the same way about you Molly! I love you. As a sister, at least."

"I love you too." Molly replied, even though she was still unable to think of her feelings as platonic. "Anyway, I think I'd better go to sleep soon."

"Yeah. Me too. Just remember that no matter what, you will always be my best friend. Goodnight, Molly."

"Goodnight, Libby." Molly wished Libby goodnight before she hung up the phone.

With their conversation over, Molly laid back down on her bed. Her eyes were open, thinking about what Libby told her. If Libby thinks of her as a sister, Molly knew that she would have no choice but to move on.

A few days had went by since Molly's conversation with Libby. She had long since forgotten about that night as she spent her morning having a jam session with Scratch. Her morning soon took an unexpected turn when a new family moved into the neighborhood.

Upon meeting the family, Molly ended up meeting a boy named, Ollie. Molly was surprised to learn that Ollie likes helping out the community and spreading joy just like her. Whenever Molly is around him she couldn't help but think he looked kind of cute.

That was when Molly realized that Libby was right. Maybe there really is someone for her after all.

The End

AN: So, that's the end of the story. After all of the gay subtext that went on with Molly and Libby throughout the first season, only for Molly to suddenly fall for Ollie in the second season, I had recently thought of a head canon that Molly really did have a crush on Libby, only for Libby to not feel the same way.
