Chapter 2: locked a the edge of the shadow realm

Feria's POV

When I woke up all I saw was sand and the sun burning above my head….

"ow my head… what happened?" I moaned as I slowly got up and rubbed over my head… before I started to look around, there were a few bushes and fruit trees nearby as well as a cave…. For the rest there was a river going all around us, for as far as the eye could see, trapping us were we were… since it was probably crawling with crocodiles…. So I walked to the rocky wall were we had fallen from to see if I could spot someone up there,…. Someone who could help us get up again… but it was to high….. I couldn't see the end of it….. Nor did I believe climbing up would be a option…. We were trapped….

"speaking of which…" I thought as I looked back at the place I had lied just a moment ago, and there he was…. The thief king…. Lying unconsious on the floor near the spot i had lied just a moment ago, groaning as he started to wake up as well….

"good morning sleepy head, nice of you to join me at last….." I smirked at him as I went into one of the trees to gather some of the fruits I had seen before to get something to eat. I saw the thief king was following me with his eyes, but he didn't replied, nor did he give any sign that he cared that we were trapped down here….

"my, my, did the greath thief king swallowed his toung during the falldown….. Since I fancy your not the shy type…" I taunted him now as I sat down and swallowed some of the coconut milk from the coconut I had broken open with ease since I had lived most of my time in the jungle after my uncle (Mariks insane father) had kicked me out of his home…

"and I had hoped you would be able to shut your mouth for a few seconds…. That way I would be able to think of a way to get out,…."the thief king replied as he placed his hand on his head and looked around with a dull look, just like I had done just a few minutes ago…

"don't worry, I made sure we were trapped big time…. Even IF we would be able to swim cross the water I think we gotta fight at least one crododile each…." I said as I jumped down and tossed a coconut his way, that broke open before his feet. I saw the man looked at it with a shocked look, before he picked up the peaces and drunk the milk inside, before rubbing the milk from his mouth that remained there…

"thats not good then, thanks for getting me stuck here…."The thief king said with a angry look at me, but I didn't fell the least bit intimidated by the man, since I knew he couldn't harm me, I had learned how to defend myself very well, even if he WOULD get violent…. I would know how to defend myself properly…

"your welcome…. "I therefore replied smirking as I went to inspect the fruit bushes…. There was a lot of fruit on them…. We would be able to last her a few days if needed… do I hope we would be released soon…. I dunno how long I would last with this evil guy near me…. Do he had something… in his eyes… a pain that I couldn't place by then… do I would soon find out what it was…..

Bakura's POV

When I woke up, the last thing I had expected was that I was trapped on the edge of the shadow realm with this….. Woman… mocking me…. Do she had something…. She was a wise nose with a big mouth….. But there was something in her eyes…. I couldn't place…..

"well, it doesnt matters, soon she and her little friends will be begging for mercy… but why do I feel so strange…Why is she confusing me with her kindness…" I thought as I picked up the broken coconut before me and drank the milk fast, since I hadn't had any food ore water for a couple of hours and was kinda thirsty…after that I watched in awe as she gathered tree branches and started to make fire, after which she made a stick sharp at one side and she started to hunt for fish...

"Gotta admit... the girl has style..." I thought as i saw how fast and swift she managed to get the fish at her sharp stick... Her moves were flowing and gracious… like she had done this before…

"Either that ore she is a fast learner… not that i care…" I thought as i observed how a crocodile snooped closer to her. At one hand i wanted to call out and allert her, but i decided against it, since it would look like i cared about her then… and that was something i wanted to avoid at any cost.

"Do it will be harder to get out of here on my … argg what was i about to think! Come on Akafia! Your stronger then that! You don't need that bitch to get out! Focus man!" I reprimanded myself firmly as i watched the crocodile was already at her leg, opening it's mouth to strike. But just as i wanted to call out for her, she looked up smiling... why was she smiling? that Crocodile was about to swallow her alive!?

"Don't you DARE do that! you Overgrown lizard" Feria smiled as she looked at the outstreched beak. The crocodile growled something and then… my mouth fell open when she seemed to ACTUALLY reply to the crocodile's growl.

"I don't care your hungry… your not gonna take a bite out of me… ore him… " The brunette said, smiling at me a little, looking at me smirking, probably because my mouth was still hanging open, not that I cared, what I did care about was that she seemed to be able to talk to that crocodile… a skill no one i knew had.

"and i know a lot people... but this is something i have never seen before in my life..." I thought as i got a little closer to the water now to hear clearly what she was saying, since i was curious what she was telling the animail...

"probably when it can best eat me... pafatic woman..." I thought as i sat down behind the tree she had gotten the coconuts from and listened to the story she was telling the crocodile, which turned out (to my greath suprise) the story of how we came down here... instead of when it could best eat me...

"and thats how we ended up here... now i was wondering... You guys live here... do you know a way out of here?" I heard her ask with a smile on her face. the crocodile looked at her silent for a moment, before it growled then went under water...

"thanks, we'll wait for you..." Feria smiled then got out off the water and started to get some off the water plants before she started to squeeze them until she could make a basked out of it in which she put the fish she caught. then she made a small stake over the fire and started to cook the fish, while she squeezed some other plants before used her hands to make wool somehow.

Feria's POV

"food is done, come get some if your hungry..." I called after a while. since i wanted to make our stay here as pleasant as possible, i had made wool by using some old methodes i had read about in a old book, cooking fish and maybe in time i could use some of the tools around here to form pots and pans to cook in. the thief king was sitting in the far back against the grotto, silently mocking me for the fact that i knew how to survive as i was making us blankets for the night... knowing the nights could be very cold here...

" your quite the cook... for someone who has always lived in a family..." he snapped as he looked at me with a small smile on his face as he took a bite out of his fish... something that made me look up rather annoyed. he might be the thief king but he had no right to be rude! especially since i just made him dinner.

"well actually... i HAVEN'T always lived in a nice family... i was living and surviving on the streets for years..." I admitted now as i rubbed over the back of my neck as i looked at sky that slowly started to get dark as day turned into night...

" how come... I recon YOUR village wasn't destroyed by a evil pharaoh.." The blonde man asked with a snappy voice as he looked at me with a stern look, which made me look at him quite surprised. Since I knew from listening in on my friends that he was a thief king here, do he had never told any of us why….

"no… the husband of the woman that saved me and my twin brother kicked me out at age fourteen... and he was supposed to be my uncle... the asshole..." i scoffed, remembering how Mr. Ishtar despite being related to me and my twin brother Odion, had kicked me out and kept Odion to serve Marik. And all because i hadn"t been able to keep my promise to Marik and stay all the time when he recieved the tomb keepers initiation.

"Oo boy, that must have struck" the thief king replied dramaticly while rolling his eyes in an anoyed way. "Far worse then seeing your entire village getting slaughtered"

"I didn't said it was worse... i know it wasn't by far worse… yet it caused me to be able to rely on my own instincts" i smiled as she finished the first blanked and handed it to the thief king, who looked at it with a stern look, while I moved on with my own blanket... needlework wasn't exacly my best trade but I was a fast learner and everything was sleeping out in the cold... that is one thing i learned in all my time on the street.

"i see, and what is this if I may ask?" Bakura's evil alter ego asked me as he held up the blanket i had just made with a devious smirk on his face.

"a blanket…. They had those in acnient egypt as well as far as I can recall… " i remarked sharply. "and if not i had thought you would remember them from the future you came from a few hours ago" i said, rolling my eyes at the man in an annoyed way…. The nerve of that man… acting like he didn't knew what a blanket was...

"i do, yet why did you make me a blanket? Is this one of your little "tricks" to win my favor?" Bakura asked with a smirk on his face, since even if that had been my plan (which wasn't the case) it hadn't worked on him... that was one thing that stood like a house.

"no, it is called "being nice" i remarked sarcasticly "you should try it for a change" I smiled while i finished up my dinner, then took the pans to the river bank were i started to wash them off so I could use them again tommorow, since I didn't think the crocodile would find a way for us to get out in one day, which meant we would have to stay here for a day more at the very least while we awaited the report of the crocodile. While I went over the cleanup the thief king watched me, yet seemed to refuse to help me out.

"probably because in this world cleaning up and all that was a womans job…. The asshole…" I thought as I scrubbed the pots, making a small talk with a family of crocodiles that seemed to live here, since they were at least "talkative" unlike Bakura, who probably rather saw me swallowed wholy by the crocodiles then to talk to me. But thanks to the Crocodiles at found out some things about the timeline I was currently in and some off the events that had taken place before we arrived... something that could be usefull once we were out of here and had to navigate out way back to the royal palace...

"let's hope someone finds me soon, I am not one to enjoy silence for to long…" I thought as I stored away the bowls i had made for later use, before I raised up the fire for a bit and sat down with my blanket again, picking up my work were I had left off. "I hate being ignored…"

"so….can i ask…. Was Bakura your actual name " I started without thinking, hoping to bring up a conversation. "ore was that just the name of your host you took over?"

"why do you suddenly wanne know?" Bakura asked me with a raised eyebrown, clearly not trusting my sudden interest.

"Just wondering…. " I shrugged, which was the truth… i was just curious whether Bakura was his acnient name as well ore if he used to be called by a diffrent name here... since the Pharaoh obviously had a diffrent name here then in the future were we all called him Yami...

"if you must know… Bakura was indeed just the name of my host…. My real name was and is Akafia…" the man replied with a smirk. "not that you will have match knowing this…" he sneered, at which I huffed in reply... like I was trying to interrogate him for information or something... i was just being polite by asking...

"I am not interrogating you if you want to know… i was just wondering about this…" I remarked, grumbling when the needle got stuck in my finger. "I have seen you around in Bakura's ring for ages now but never really managed to just... sit down and have a chat..."

"Not that you ever cared to" Akafia looked to the side, clearly annoyed by my sudden interest. "Or you would have at least tried"

"You only show yourself to try and beat Yugi in a shadow game or cause goas" I shrugged as put my needle work to the side for the time being and looked him straight in the eye. "And even tho i lived on the street for a while i learned a lot there... i never learned to conjer up spirits"

That last bit was meant as a little joke to break the ice and it seemed like i had some succes in that regard, because for a split moment i saw the thief kings lips twitch upwards before he actually let out a chuckle.

"Not that you could have if you had tried my dear" he smirked, poking in the fire with a stick to keep it alive. " I am not that sort of spirit... and neither is your goody-two-shoes friend the pharaoh"

"Well lucky me i didn't took the cursus" I quipped, before looking towards the water were the crocodiles had dissapeared. Silently wondering how long it would take for them to find a way out off this place... would they bother coming back at all knowing they wouldn't get a free meal out off them? "Still leaves us stranded here tho"

"Not match confidence in your crocodile buddies do you?" Akafia taunted. Relaxing back against a rock as i walked to the stream to get some water to drink.

"Well, now they know their not gonna be able to get a free meal out of us.. " I looked at Akafia with a sad look. "I... I honestly do not know for sure if they will be back..."

"so, what is your plan now then?" Akafia asked me with a raised eyebrow, before he smirked. "because I do not fancy you to remaind stuck here with the likes off me for the rest off your days"

"I do not..." I replied, looking to the side as I spoke. "but I do not know what I can do now..."

"well then it seems were gonna have a problem on our hands" Akefia remarked, sitting down at the riverbank next to me and looked at the river as well. "we cannot get to the other shore and we cannot go around the river either now can we?"

"we cannot" I confirmed as I looked at the water with a sad look. wondering if I would ever see the Pharaoh... my friends... or my twin brother again... "yet there has to be a way to escape... there has to be..."

I remarked, eyes shimmering as I kept my gaze at the water.

"no matter what happens I must find a way to re-join my friends and save the world from the darkness that lurks close by" I gazed to my side were Akafia was sitting, gazing at the water as well. he was seemingly also deep in thought... but when he looked up and our eyes met... i could feel a strange flutter in my stomach. "tho I wish there was A way we could do that and save him as well..."
