It was late afternoon as Danny walked into Beast's lab. "Hey, Hank, what's up?"

Beast looked up from his work to greet his friend. "Ah, Danny, how are you?"

"I'm doing good." Danny answered as he looked around the lab and spotted some perfume. "What's this?" He asked. "A little gift for a lady you like?"

Beast chuckled. "Actually, this is an interesting invention of mine. It allows one's scent to be covered entirely."

"So, theoretically, if I put this on, Logan wouldn't be able to sniff my scent?" He said as he sprayed himself with the concoction. "What gave you the idea? Did Gambit want something that prevented Logan from finding out that he stole his last beer?"

"Not exactly." Beast answered with a laugh. "I thought of it in case we came across enemies that also had Logan's sense of smell."

"It would be useful." Danny admitted. "So how's the research going with the time medallion?"

Danny had lent Beast his time medallion so the blue-furred mutant could study it.

"I actually haven't progressed that much." Beast admitted. "It seems Clockwork's work is beyond us, I'm afraid."

The mutant scientist then touched the medallion with a tool, which caused the medallion to glow as it shot out a beam of light at Danny as he vanished from the lab.

Beast stared at where Danny used to be.

"Rogue is gonna kill me when she finds out." Beast said to himself.

In a flash of light, Danny crashed into someone. The hybrid groaned as he got up and looked around. He was in some kind of city, but he couldn't place it. He tried to turn into his ghost form but couldn't. He tried any of his powers, but they wouldn't work.

"Great." Danny said in frustration. "That medallion must have also shorted out my ghost powers." Hearing someone moan in pain, Danny looked down to see who he had landed on. Danny gasped.

"Captain America?"

It was indeed the Star-Spangled Avenger as he lay unconscious on the ground. Danny facepalmed as he realized that he traveled back to this guy's time and ended up crashing into him.

"Fuck, what do I do?" Danny asked himself before he heard someone scream.

Danny grabbed Captain America's shield for protection and turned past a corner to find somewhere to hide him when he found a young woman being harassed by Nazis.

"Hey, leave her alone!" Danny cried as he threw the shield at the pair, knocking them out.

The woman went up to Danny and hugged him.

"Oh, thank you so much!" She said gratefully.

Danny took a good look at her as his eyes widened.

She looked like Sam, but much older. What Sam would look like if she survived long enough to go to college.

"Who are you?" Danny asked her.

"My name is Ida." She answered as Danny realized he had saved Sam's grandmother.

He always liked Ida; she was the only member of Sam's family who didn't hate him. She always greeted him with a smile and treated him with respect. He remembered how Ida would always tell him that he was a good boy and how happy she was that her granddaughter was friends with him.

Ida then noticed the shield he was holding. "Are you Captain America?"

Danny shook his head, as he didn't know how to explain it. "No, I'm not. If you excuse me, I've got to go." He then ran off as Ida chased after him.

She then managed to catch up to Danny and found him looking over a motionless Captain America.

"What happened?" She asked him.

"I knocked him out." Danny confessed, not seeing a way out of this. "It was an accident." He showed her the Avenger's unconscious body.

"We have to hide him." Ida said, knowing that several enemies would want him. "Here, help me take him back to my place."

The two then grabbed Captain America's arms as they managed to avoid any more Nazis as they reached Ida's home.

Logan was hopping on rooftops as he avoided detection by the enemy. Unfortunately, his cover was blown when, during one of his jumps, he ended up kicking a rock that landed on a Nazi's helmet.

"Oh." The two soldiers aimed their guns at the roof, where Logan was hiding.

"Achtung. You on the roof. Surrender immediately." The Nazi commanded. "Come down now, or we open fire. You have five seconds. Come down now."

Logan had an idea as he flicked a pebble at a nearby bird, making it fly away.

"Look! Ein Vogel." One of the Nazis joked as they realized that they had been threatening a bird.

"Maybe it's an American spy." The other laughed.

When they left, Logan dropped to the ground and made his way over to his destination, which was a bakery. He knocked on the door, and someone peeked from the blinds to confirm it was him before opening the door.

A young woman was revealed as she tested Logan.

"The night has eyes." She said.

"But the eyes of liberty never sleep." Logan replied, confirming it was him.

She ushered him in. "Enter quickly, monsieur." Once inside, she introduced herself. "Welcome, monsieur. I am Justine. Freedom has need of you."

"When hasn't it?" Logan replied. "And the name is Logan."

"Time is precious." Justine said as she moved a shelf of baked goods to reveal a hidden stairway.

The two stepped down into the basement as Logan smelled someone else was here.

"Careful, kid." He got in front of her. "We ain't alone here."

"Your senses are as good as they claim, short stuff." A man in a commander's uniform said as he stepped into view.

Logan recognized him. "Happy Sawyer. Am I right?"

"Captain Sawyer to you, mister." Sawyer replied. "Only my men get to call me Happy."

"Yeah, I can see why." Logan said as he saw Sawyer pull out a map.

"Here, take a look at these." Sawyer said as he pointed to a place on the map. "This place is called the Chateau du Mort. Andre Cocteau, a scientist essential to our side, is being held here by the enemy. The chateau is on a remote mountain top, almost inaccessible by normal means. Your assignment is to get Cocteau out of there, or if you can't, to silence him."

"No problem." Logan said.

"Your backup will meet you en route." Sawyer added.

This caught Logan off guard. "Backup? I work solo, pal."

"Trust me, Logan." Sawyer assured him. "This guy you'll like."

"Fine. If that's all, I got a mountain to tame." Logan was about to leave when Justine stopped him.

"Monsieur, wait." Justine said. "Moment, s'il vous plait? There is one more thing you should know about Andre Cocteau."

"Yeah, what's that?" Logan asked.

"He's my father." She revealed.

"Oh, great." Logan said. Now he had to make sure this girl's heart didn't get shattered in case this Andre Cocteau didn't make it.

Justine kissed Logan's cheek. "Bonne chance, mon ami. Please be careful."

Logan smirked. "Petite, careful's my middle name."

Ida was putting a damp rag on Captain America's head while Danny was overlooking him.

It was a small building, with Ida being the only one living here as the rest of her family had taken away months ago.

"Fuck, what am I gonna do?" Danny muttered to himself quietly. "I'm trapped in the past with Sam's grandmother, and I ended up knocking out Captain America."

"Got to meet Logan." Captain America moaned.

"Logan? Who's Logan?" Ida asked in intrigue.

Danny rubbed his head as he realized that he had ended up preventing Cap from meeting up with Logan. He should be surprised that one of history's greatest heroes knew Logan, but Danny knew Logan was older than he looked.

"My guess is someone he has to meet up with for a mission." Danny assumed. "We've got to get him to that mission, but how? He's in no condition to fight. Unless." An idea came to Danny.

Ida was in awe as she looked over Danny, who was dressed up as Captain America. It didn't fit perfectly, but Danny was still able to pass himself off as the real thing.

"You sure this is the right thing?" Ida asked him.

"Hey, he's here for a reason, and he won't be able to do what he's here to do, so I'll just do it for him." Danny said. "Just keep him hidden and make sure he's okay. I'll be back soon."

Danny then left Ida's home as she watched.

"Good luck." She whispered.

A young boy slipped past some Nazis holding a piece of bread when he tripped over some trashcans, catching their attention with the noise.

"Halt." One commanded.

The boy tried to explain that he didn't want any trouble.

"You should have thought of that before you broke curfew." The other Nazi said.

"Hey!" The two turned to see Logan, who shoved them to the ground.

"Filthy Schwein." One raged. "We will..." He was cut off as Logan punched him.

"Yeah? You and what army?" Logan taunted.

This statement was followed by several more Nazis coming up and aiming their guns at the Canadian.

"Okay, stupid question." Logan said as he kicked one of them into two more. "Hey, what's wrong, punks? Run out of kids to rough up?"

Logan heard a gun being loaded as a Nazi fired at him, only for the bullets to be blocked by Cap's shield, which was thrown at the right moment to block the bullets.

Danny was glad that Beast's invention prevented Logan from smelling him. He knew that Logan hadn't recognized him when they first met. That means he couldn't let Logan find out who he really is. If he did, then that would end up causing some time paradox, which would really be bad.

Still, Danny was happy to find a familiar face among all this chaos.

"Need help?" Danny said to Logan as he caught the shield and prepared to fight some Nazis.

"Put him down like the dog he is." One Nazi snarled.

"The only dogs I see are you." Danny replied as he smacked them with the shield. He could get used to this thing. It was really fun.

Logan then joined in as the two beat up the Nazis.

"Guess we made our point." Logan said to him.

Danny then picked up the piece of bread and gave it to the kid. "Here you go."

The kid thanked him before leaving.

"I'm sure they'll send more after us, so let's get out of here." Logan told him.

"Agreed." Danny followed Logan as the two ran.

"Look, not to sound like an idiot, but what's our mission?" Danny asked as he came up with a lie. "This mask is very tight, and it causes headaches, so I forget things."

Surprisingly, Logan bought it. "We got to save some big shot doctor, Andre Cocteau, who's being held at this mountainside."

"Rescue mission, then?" Danny said. "I can do that."

The two then found a castle on top of the mountainside.

"So this is where they're holding the doctor." Danny said. "The place is sealed tight. I don't know how we'll get in."

"I got these." Logan pulled out four hand tools that each sported three large metal claws. He handed two of them to Danny.

"Handy little gimmick." Danny tested them out. "Well, let's go mountain climbing then."

'I always wondered what it would be like to have these.' Danny thought to himself as he looked at the tools, which resembled Wolverine's claws as he climbed.

"So, where'd you get that star-spangled monkey suit?" Logan asked him.

Danny told him the truth. "I got it from a guy I ran into."

"Well, you wouldn't catch me in something like that." Logan jabbed at his outfit.

The fake Captain America had to keep himself from laughing about the irony of that statement. "I wouldn't say never. Besides, I like the color. Better than bright yellow."

They soon made their way to the top.

"We're up. Next step is in." Logan said. "Looks like it's going to be clear."

As soon as he said that, the two ran into a pair of Nazis.

"Hey!" One cried before they both aimed their guns at the heroes.

"You were saying?" Danny said as he blocked their bullets with his shield while Logan used his tools to cut off a branch that fell on them.

Logan admired his tools. "You know, these things ain't half bad."

"Yeah, you might get used to them." Danny said as he tied the men up.

They then snuck into the castle as Logan tried to locate the doctor with his sense of smell.

Logan pointed to one door. "Try this one. Smells like fear."

Opening the door quietly, the duo saw Cocteau overseeing some robot-like creation while two guards watched over him.

The guards felt they were being watched and turned around, only to be knocked out when Danny threw the shield at them.

"Who are you?" Cocteau said in fear.

"We're here to rescue you, professor." Danny told him. "Let's get you out of here."

"Better hustle before any more of your buddies wander in." Logan recommended.

"No, I cannot." Cocteau protested. "Please, leave me alone."

"Come on, professor. Your daughter is waiting to see you again." Logan revealed.

Danny tried to comfort him. "Don't be scared. We'll keep you safe."

"No, you don't understand." Cocteau said. "You must leave me here before..." Logan placed a bare hand on his shoulder as the scientist fell into his arms.

"We got no time to argue." Logan said as he dragged the professor out.

"What did you do to him?" Danny asked. It reminded him a bit of Rogue's powers.

"Just something I learned before the war." Logan answered. "Don't worry. He'll be fine."

The trio left the room and were moving down the corridors when Cocteau regained consciousness.

"What happened?" He asked his rescuers.

"Sorry, but it was for your own good." Logan apologized. "We're getting you out of here before..." They ended up running into more guards, who trained their guns on them.

"Not again." Logan said in irritation before Danny charged at them and knocked them out.

"Please, just go." Cocteau begged them as the alarm went off.

Logan pulled him along. "Not without you.

"We've only got seconds before this whole place is crawling with..." Danny stopped as they came across more guards with guns.

"Guess again." Logan said. "You goons want the professor back; you got to come through us."

This only prompted even more guards to come in as they were surrounded.

"Forget it, Logan." Danny told his friend. "We can't risk the professor getting hurt."

"I'd just like to get my hands on whoever set off that lousy alarm." Logan snarled.

"But you've already had your chance, little man." A voice said.

Danny's eyes widened as he saw who had spoken. "Oh shit. It's him."

Standing before them was the villainous Red Skull.

"Captain." Red Skull greeted Danny before turning to Cocteau. "Thank you for setting off that alarm, professor. You are truly a credit to our cause."

The soldiers took the two to Red Skull's dungeon, where Danny was strapped to a table while Logan was hung from the ceiling by his arms.

"Fascinating toy, this." Red Skull was examining the shield. "I've always wanted to see if it truly is as indestructible as they say. Perhaps later we shall find out." He placed the shield on a nearby table as he headed out.

"What about the professor?" Danny asked him. "What did you do to him?"

"Forget him, Captain." Red Skull said smugly. "He is one of us now. And you have more immediate concerns."

"We've got to get out of here and fast." Danny said as he struggled against his bonds, wishing his powers hadn't been deactivated by the time medallion when he was sent here.

"Any bright ideas how?" Logan asked sarcastically.

"I've got a few." Danny replied with the same amount of sarcasm. "Though it would help if I had my shield."

"Oh, is that all? No sweat." Logan started to swing himself by the rope around his wrists as he inched closer to the shield. "I've had a harder time opening cans of tuna, pal. Better get ready, glory boy." He caught the shield with his legs. "Here goes nothing." He threw it as it bounced across the room and cut the ropes holding Logan, who then freed Danny. "Guess that makes us even."

"Come on, we've got to stop Red Skull." Danny said as the two raced to stop the evil villain.

"How are you progressing, Herr Professor?" Red Skull asked as Cocteau looked over the robot.

"The prototype sleeper robot will be ready for testing in a matter of hours, Monsieur Skull." Cocteau informed him.

"Convincing you to join our cause is perhaps my greatest triumph." Red Skull said. "And to think I once doubted your loyalty."

"We should've doubted the good doctor as well." Danny said as he and Logan burst through the doors.

"You again!" Red Skull glared at Danny.

"You two do this often?" Logan asked Danny.

Danny shrugged. "Appears so."

"But this will be the last time." Red Skull added as he snapped his fingers, summoning more guards. "Get rid of them." He ordered.

Danny blocked the bullets with his shield, while Logan was behind him.

"Bad idea, goose-steppers." Logan said as they ran towards the guards and fought their way through. Danny threw the shield at them as it bounced off the walls and returned to his hand.

Logan used his tools to slice through their guns as the two worked together to bring them all down.

"Is that all you got, skull boy?" Danny taunted Red Skull when they were finished.

"Enough. I will tolerate no more." Red Skull aimed a gun at them, but Danny used his shield to knock it out of his hand.

"You really thought a pistol would take me out?" Danny teased. "I guess underneath that red skull is a tiny brain." He turned to Logan, who was still fighting the guards. "You handle the rest. Red Skull is mine."

"This day has been too long in coming." Red Skull tried to fight Danny, but he was no match for the hero.

"You know, I thought your skull was literally made of flames, or am I thinking about somebody else?" Danny said as he blocked a punch with a shield, making Red Skull rub his hand in pain.

Red Skull turned to Cocteau. "Herr Professor, the control, schnell."

"Monsieur Skull." Cocteau hesitated as he held the control for the robot in his hand.

"Professor!" Red Skull stomped toward the doctor. "Fool! Must I do everything myself?" He snatched the remote before turning back to Danny. "You were curious about Dr. Cocteau's work, Captain."

He pressed a button as the robot activated. "The sleeper has awakened."

"More like a nightmare, if you ask me." Danny quipped as they dodged its gunfire, while the guards ran in fear as the bullets started coming towards them.

Danny threw his shield, which severed one of the robot's hands.

"Now it's my turn." Logan used his tools to cut off the other hand before jumping on its back. The robot tried to shake Logan off, and the man ended up having to hang on to its chest, which ended up opening a door and revealing its core.

"Yo, Cap!" Logan called out to his friend.

Danny threw the shield. "You don't have to tell me twice."

The shield went straight through the robot as it fell to the ground and exploded.

"The bigger they come, the harder they fall." Danny said as he picked up the shield.

"Come, Herr Professor." Red Skull said to Cocteau as the place started to catch fire with several soldiers from the allies bursting in. "It is time to take our leave."

"No!" Danny cried as he saw the two leave. "You're not getting away!"

Logan saw a piece of the roof about to fall on Danny. "No!" He managed to push him out of the way.

"Tit for tat, glory boy." Logan said as they got up.

"Thanks, but it's not over yet." Danny said as they escaped through a hole in the wall and looked around for Cocteau and Red Skull

"Any sign of him?" Logan asked as Danny spotted the two preparing to take off in a jet.

"There!" Danny pointed.

"Come on." Logan urged as they chased after the jet. They both managed to grab onto the wings before the jet took off in the air as the force pushed them off.

"No!" Danny shouted, angered that he couldn't stop Red Skull's escape.

"Farewell, Herr Captain." Red Skull said "Until we meet again."

The two landed in a wagon that was filled with hay, breaking their falls.

"Trust me, Red Skull, there will be a next time." Danny muttered. "The history books will guarantee it."

The two got out of the wagon before it fell off a cliff. The two watched the jet take off before they noticed the allied soldiers approaching them.

"Hey, Cap, you and the Canuck okay?" A young Nick Fury asked with his Howling Commandos behind him.

"Yeah, we're good." Danny said as he shook his head.

"You okay, Cap?" Nick asked, noticing that he seemed a bit awkward.

"Never been better." Danny replied more convincingly. "Thanks for the help. You couldn't have picked a better time to hit the chateau."

"Well, that's one base Uncle Adolf's brain trust won't be using again." Fury said.

"What are you two so happy about?" Logan asked, feeling that this mission was a failure. "From where I stand, our mission failed. We were supposed to get Cocteau. Instead, we lose the little rat and the Skull."

"We shut down their robot project; it wasn't a total failure." Danny told him. "Besides, I feel like in the end we will win this war. Call it a hunch."

"Yeah, well, my war ain't over until I find Cocteau and make him pay for betraying us." Logan vowed.

"What do I tell him when he wakes up?" Ida asked as Danny placed the mask back on Captain America.

"You won't have to tell him anything." Danny said. "I know where he's being stationed. I'll place him there." He placed the captain over his shoulder. "Now let's get him out of here."

"You saved me." Ida said gratefully. "It was the least I could do. And it was an honor to look after Captain America."

Danny was about to leave when he felt his ghost powers return to him.

"How would you like to get out of here?" Danny asked her, as he realized he could at least help her out now that his powers were back. Besides, he was pretty sure that Ida needed to end up in America anyway, so it wasn't like he was altering history. In fact, he was saving it by making sure Sam was born, and therefore Danny Phantom would be created.

"I would love to." Ida answered.

"Then follow me." Danny gestured for her to follow him. He used his powers to make them all invisible as he flew them out of the city.

"How is this possible?" Ida asked in awe.

"Let's just say Cap isn't the only super soldier." Danny said, leaving it at that.

Finding the area where Cap was supposed to be stationed, he dropped him off at the base and then stole a jet, which he used to fly Ida all the way to the U.S.

He landed them outside a nearby city as they got off the jet.

"Thank you so much." Ida hugged him tightly as she looked at a nearby city in the distance. "I'll never forget you." She kissed him on the cheek and gasped as Danny disappeared.

The half-ghost sighed in relief that he was back home when Beast walked in.

"Danny?" Beast's eyes widened as he sported a huge grin on his face. "Danny!" He hugged his friend. "Thank goodness, you're okay!"

Danny returned the hug. "Glad to see you too, Beast. What happened while I was gone?"

"Basically, I panicked as I realized I was dead if Rogue found out you were gone." Beast answered. "I spent most of it trying to figure out ways to get you back or to keep Rogue from noticing you were missing. I was even considering dragging Morph here and having him take your form."

"Wouldn't work." Danny joked. "It would only be a few seconds until Rogue wanted a kiss, and then Morph's cover would be blown."

"You think I didn't think about that?" Beast said in an amused voice. "I'm just glad you're safe, which means I'm safe."

"Same here, Beast." Danny said. "Same here."

In an old cemetery in Paris, three veterans were looking over the grave of their fallen comrade.

"We'll never forget what you did for us, Duke." One of the veterans, Ernie, said to the grave. "We're standing here because of you, buddy."

"Sleep well, soldier." The second one said.

"Your brothers-in-arms salute you." The third one added as they all saluted the tombstone.

Once it was finished, Ernie decided it was time to go celebrate.

"Now, come on, guys." He said. I know a little bistro near here. First round's on..." He stopped as he saw someone familiar standing over a grave. "Him?" Ernie thought it was his old comrade, Logan, before he shot the idea down in his head. "Nah, it can't be."

The three went up as Ernie realized it was him. "Well, I'll be. It is you. How are you, you old war..." He was proven wrong when the figure turned around and saw that the man was too young to be his old friend.

"Something I can do for you, bub?" Logan asked.

"Sorry, pal." Ernie apologized. "Thought you were somebody I knew there for a second. A guy I served with back in the big one. We're doing our 50th. There's no way you could be old enough. He sure could have been your father or something."

"Yeah, or something." Logan replied.

"Well, sorry to have bothered you, pal." Ernie said. "You take care now, hear?"

"Yeah, Ernie. You too." Logan said softly as he watched the three leave. "I'd love to join you at the bistro, but I don't think you quite understand."

He turned back to the grave of Andre Cocteau. "Guys like him were worth one thousand of you, old man. Real red-blooded heroes." He brought out his claws, as he was still angry about Cocteau's betrayal.

"How dare you kick it before I could get my hands on you?" He roared. "You cheated me, old man! Cheated me of vengeance! Cheated me of justice! It ain't fair. You stole the joy of Paris from me forever. I don't know why you ratted on us, Cocteau, but I sure wanted five minutes alone with you to show you what I thought about it. I never saw you again. And now I never will. How could they bury a back-stabber like you on this hallowed ground?"

"Because sadly, mon ami, you do not know the whole story." Came the voice of an elderly Justine.

"Justine?" Logan was surprised to see her after all these years.

"Oui, mon ami." Justine confirmed. "Oh, the years have been kind to you."

"And to you, petite." Logan said.

Justine smiled. "It is good to see you again, Logan."

Logan shook his head. "I don't know why. It's been over fifty years, and all I can think about is getting back at your father."

"I understand." Justine said understandably. "So did he. Sadly, it was his duty to betray you."

"What?" Logan gasped at the revelation. Why was it his duty to betray him? That made no sense.

"My father was no traitor, but a carefully placed double agent working for the allies." Justine elaborated.

Logan was still confused. "But if he was on our side, why were we sent to rescue him? To risk our lives?"

"To make his defection appear more convincing, mon ami." Justine answered. "Thanks to your failed rescue, my father worked behind enemy lines for the rest of the war, sabotaging their research. He delayed completion of their V2 rockets. He helped stop their atomic bomb. In his own way, he helped us win the war."

Logan couldn't believe that all this time Cocteau was on their side. "Oh, I don't know what to say."

"They were terrible times, mon ami." Justine comforted him. "We all played different roles." She kissed him on the cheek. "Thank you for playing your part. Now, come, I know of a little bistro near here. We can dine and remember old times."

"Sounds great, petite. Just give me a moment. Something I got to do first." Logan pulled out his claws and carved something into Cocteau's grave. He then returned to Justine. "Come on, I think it's time we drank us a toast to your old man's memory."

Danny watched what went on from the distance as he approached Cocteau's grave to see that Logan had carved the word hero into his tombstone.

He smiled as he watched Justine and Logan leave. "We all had our parts to play back then."
