Chapter 54: Moments We Live For

Kendall moved about cleaning up the kitchen after dinner. Kyle and Miles had bolted the second they were done eating. Leora wasn't even home, she had texted she was out with friends. James had taken Jenny to have her bath, since she wanted to wear her spaghetti rather than eat it. It was becoming her norm lately.

He looked out the kitchen window and saw Kyle and Miles had migrated outside. Kyle was laughing at a video on Miles's phone. They both said something and turned to one another jinxing the other. They laughed again and Miles leaned in saying something under his breath that Kendall didn't catch, but Kyle's cheeks went red as he leaned in and kissed the other boy. As they parted Miles made a snarky comment that had Kyle shoving him away as he cackled.

"Hey, are you done yet?" James asked, walking up to him.

"Yeah," Kendall said looking down at the sink. He grabbed a towel to dry his hands. "Where's Jenny?"

"Watching Miss Tina," James said, referring to the toddler show they had been recommended by another parent from her play group.

James walked up to him arching a brow. He glanced out the window to Kyle and Miles. They were now sitting side by side with Kyle resting his head on Miles' shoulder as they talked softly together. Miles had an arm around Kyle, his smile growing as they talked. He then said something that had Kyle give him a weird look before they both started laughing again.

"How did we not notice?" James asked as he watched them for a moment.

"How did they?" Kendall asked, moving away from the window.

"Yeah, but like I never would have thought they would…I always thought it would be Miles and Leora," James said.

"Or Kyle and Lilly once upon a time," Kendall said.

"Yeah," James nodded his head.

"But looking at those two now, they make the most sense together," Kendall said.

"Yeah, they have always been two peas in a pod," James agreed.

Kendall grabbed James' hand and led him from the room. They entered the living room where Jenny was currently helping Miss Tina find her glasses that were on top of her head. She was teaching about body parts.

Kendall and James sat down together on the couch. Kendall smiled as he watched Jenny point to each body part as Miss Tina pointed to hers. She was learning so much from this show.

Eventually Jenny noticed her dads. She ran over to them eager to show them what she learned. James would ask her where a body part was and she would point to it. Everytime she got it right Kendall gave her a high five. She was so excited. He had missed this as the others got older.

Eventually James put on a princess movie for Jenny. She cuddled up in between the two. James held her tight as they watched. Soon both James and Jenny were yawning. It wasn't long before they were both snoozing.

After the movie, Kendall carefully picked up Jenny. James woke from the movement. He looked around sleepily.

"You fell asleep," Kendall told him.

"Oh, sorry," James said, stretching.

"I'm gonna bring her to bed," Kendall said.

"Sounds good, I'm actually gonna head to bed too," James yawned.

"Tired already? It's barely even nine o'clock," Kendall said.

"Yeah, just a long day," James replied. He stood and gave Kendall a kiss on the cheek.

"Good night old man, I'll put Jenny to bed," Kendall said, smiling at him.

"Yes I am an old man and I need all the sleep I can get. Auditions for the show are coming up so I'm gonna be super busy and traveling again," James said.

"Ah yes, and you need to get your beauty sleep so you can look amazing on TV," Kendall teased.

"Damn right," James replied.

"Go then, I'll wait for Leora to get home," Kendall said.

—Happy Mistakes—

Kyle yawned as he leaned against Miles. They were up in his bedroom together. The door was open per Kendall and James' rules. They had relocated here after the sun had set. They had just finished watching a movie together.

"You should probably get going soon," Kyle said.

"Nah, dad and Papi know I'm here," Miles said waving a hand.

"Still, I don wan you to get in trouble. M'basically on house arrest. You and Jer are my only link to the outside world," Kyle said.

"Speaking of, where is Jared?" Miles asked.

"It's Jackie's birthday, he wanted to take him out to dinner. I sent our love and a happy birthday," Kyle said.

"Sweet thanks, I totally forgot," Miles said.

"That's ok, I got you," Kyle replied waving a hand.

"When do you think they'll let you off house arrest?" Miles asked.

"Never," Kyle grumbled, "not until I'm in remission at least."

"That's ok, you know I'll always be here for you," Miles replied.

Kyle smiled at that. Tonight with Miles was perfect. They had spent all night just hanging out and talking and laughing. Lots of laughing. Miles was catching Kyle up on school gossip and what everyone was up to lately. There had been cuddles and kissing too. It was just so relaxing. There was no pressure with Miles. He was able to be himself and have someone who understood him so perfectly. Miles knew what he wanted before he even knew.

He felt a little guilty at enjoying Miles' company so much and not really missing Jared tonight. Jared was busy though. He had his brothers to deal with. He knew he would see him tomorrow. Probably all day cause he was gone all day today. Then again Miles would be back tomorrow as well. He wouldn't get much time alone with Jared.

"Can I ask you something?" Miles asked.

"Sure," Kyle said. He looked up from where he was resting against the other boy.

"What are we?" Miles asked.

"Humans, I believe," Kyle replied cheekily. "Though the jury is still out on your alien status."

Miles blinked a few times before he started laughing. Kyle grinned at his own quick wit. His speech was a lot better. He barely stuttered, and only mixed up some words. He really only got bad when he tried to talk fast.

"All jokes aside, I'm not sure," Kyle said once they sobered up a bit. "I know that I love you."

"And I love you, too," Miles said, "like it's scary how much I love you."

"It's really not," Kyle said, "I mean we've known eachother since kindergarten. These thirteen years have been us practically dating. I mean we go everywhere together and hang out a lot. The last five years have just been…been..uh" he said.

"Foreplay?" Miles asked.

"Yeah, and it's scary how well you know me and what I want to say," Kyle said sitting up. He turned to look at Miles.

"Two halves of a whole dude," Miles replied.

"If only we had realized sooner," Kyle said, "all that time wasted."

"Not really, cause we were together anyways. Basically dating without the kissing and sex," Miles replied.

"You've kissed me multiple times before this year," Kyle said, giving him a pointed look.

"Yeah but that wasn't…it wasn't with feelings. At least I didn't realize it," Miles said.

The two fell silent. Kyle knew what Miles really wanted to ask. He wanted to ask about Jared. He wanted to know if Kyle had made a choice yet. Kyle wasn't sure he could. He knew that he loved Miles. Miles was truly his other half, but he loved Jared too.

Jared was the perfect pessimist to his optimist. They were opposite in so many ways and they complimented each other. Jared challenged his views on the world. He changed the way Kyle looked at the world. He had spent the last two years getting to know Jared. He practically raised his sisters for a few months there. Jackie already considered him family and Carter was coming around to the idea. He had inserted himself into Jared's life and fit perfectly. He didn't want to lose that.

Instead of talking Kyle turned around and pressed a kiss to Miles lips. Miles grinned as he pulled him closer. He slid into his lap. He kissed him again, this one with a little more heat. He kept it simple because the door was open and anyone could walk by at any second.

"I really should get going," Miles said once they parted.

"Yeah, I'm surprised Logan hasn't called yet," Kyle said. He slid off Miles.

"Me too honestly, but I'm sure he knows I'm here with you," Miles shrugged.

"True, so you'll be back tomorrow?" Kyle asked.

"Actually grandma wants to spend the day with us and take us shopping. She says she never gets to spoil us and since she's here she's gonna make it worth it," Miles said.

"Ooh sounds fun, tell Grandma Jo I miss her and as soon as I'm able I'll be over for a visit," Kyle said.

"I'll pass the message along," Miles said.

—Happy Mistakes—

Leora twirled her straw in her drink as she looked down at her phone. She was out with Lucas and Artie but they were in their own little world.

She started texting Carter again. They had been texting nonstop since their actual date last weekend. It had been so much fun. Carter was great and treated her like a princess. He always asked for permission before he did anything. It was a nice change from the jerks she had been dating.

"Hello earth to Leora," Lucas said, waving a hand in front of her.

"Huh?" Leora looked up at Lucas confused.

"Your food is here," Lucas said pointing down to her food.

"Oh," Leora said.

"What's got you so spacey over there?" Artie asked, smirking down at her phone. "Things going good with Kashtin?"

"No, he stood me up, didn't I tell you that?" Leora said.

"What? No, he never said anything to me. I'm sorry," Artie said.

"Yeah it's whatever, but I kind of met someone on my own," Leora said, a smile crossing her face. "It's early and we've been on like two dates but he's so sweet and kind. He is so different from the rest of the guys I've been seeing."

"That's great, I'll have to talk to Kashtin though, and see what happened. It seemed like you two really hit it off," Artie said.

"Yeah I thought so too, but he ghosted me. I stopped texting and never showed up for our date. Which is where I met Carter," Leora said.

"Do tell," Lucas said.

"Some jerk almost knocked me over and scatter was there to help me catch my balance and his fate freaked on him thinking he was hitting on me or something and she got mad. She slapped him and left. He was going to the same movie I wanted to see so we went together and I don't kiss and tell," Leora said waving a hand.

"Liar," Lucas said.

Leora laughed at that. "He was a perfect gentleman. He even took me to dinner last Saturday and it was perfect. He's funny too. We've been sending memes back and forth too."

"Aw, our little Leora is falling in love," Lucas cooed.

"They grow up so fast," Artie said, wiping a fake tear.

"Slow down you two," Leora said, holding a hand up. "No love yet, just…I wanna be sure before that happens, but so far so good."

"We have to double date and we can scope him out for you and see if we get any weird vibes," Lucas said.

"Oh definitely," Leora agreed.

"So what were we talking about before?" Lucas asked.

"I don't recall," Artie shrugged.

"I wasn't paying attention, Carter was sending my picture of the cat his brother just adopted," Leora said turning her phone to show them a picture of a orange kitten.

"Oh my goodness, he's so tiny," Lucas cooed.

"Adorable," Artie agreed.

Leora then started a conversation about pets and what she wanted when she got her own place. A cat was top of the list or a turtle. She wasn't sure which.

—Happy Mistakes—

Logan groaned as his alarm went off. He felt Carlos shift beside him and silence it. He didn't move to get out of bed. It was too warm and cozy. Maybe he could call in for work today. They didn't really need him there.

"Logie, time to get up," Carlos said, poking him in the side.

"No, I don't want to," Logan grumbled.

"I know, but you have to," Carlos chuckled, as he sat up. "If you don't go Tanaka might kill someone."

"Don't use logic on me," Logan groaned.

"Come on, upsy daisy," Carlos said, trying to pull him into a sitting position

Logan groaned as he tugged Carlos back down to him. Carlos 'ooft-ed' as he fell down barely catching himself above Logan.

"Why hello there," Logan said grinning up at him.

"No," Carlos said, pulling away slightly.

Logan wrapped his arms around Carlos pulling him close. "But Los, I need my good morning kiss."

"No cause that turns into touching and touching leads to sex and we don't have time for that," Carlos replied.

"Carlos," Logan whined. He pulled the Latino down for a kiss anyways. Carlos melted into his touch.

"You're adorable," Carlos sighed.

"I know, and you love me," Logan said, pulling him down for another kiss.

Carlos shifted closer to him. Logan grinned into the kiss as he let his hands wander over his husband. His hand came down to rest on the curve of his ass. Carlos sighed happily into the kiss. Logan gave his ass a squeeze. He pulled their hips closer so Carlos could feel his morning wood.

"Logie," Carlos gasped breathlessly.

"Come on, just a quick one," Logan asked as he placed a kiss on his neck. One of his most sensitive spots.

"We don't have time, the kids will be up soon and your parents too," Carlos replied.

"But Los," Logan whined. He ground his hips into the Latino.

"You have work, your boss is a dictator," Carlos tried to reason as he moved his hips with Logan's.

Logan grinned as he knew he was winning this battle. He leaned in and licked his neck before biting gently. Carlos moaned at that. Logan grinned triumphant.

He started to push Carlos' pants and underwear down. He grabbed his ass again, his finger teasing him. Carlos whined, wiggling his hips.

Bang!

"Oh my god you are so stupid!"

"Shut up! That wasn't my fault!"

Logan sighed as Carlos sat up. "There goes that idea."

"Layla and Miles are awake," Carlos replied. He climbed out of bed grabbing a shirt as he left the room.

Logan placed his hands over his eyes as he laid there a moment longer. He loved his kids. He did. They just knew how to ruin a moment. He took a deep breath before getting out of bed and getting ready for the day.

By the time he made it to the kitchen Carlos had corralled Layla and Miles into the kitchen to interrogate them, Lucas was making himself a bowl of oatmeal, and Joanna was making coffee. Carlos was standing over a broken picture frame looking between the two culprits.

"Morning mom," Logan said as he walked past her.

"Morning," Joanna greeted.

"So what happened?" Logan asked, looking at Layla.

"He's/She's-" they both started. Logan held up a hand silencing them.

"Miles," Logan said.

"That's not fair-" Layla started.

"Your name isn't Miles," Logan said.

Layla glared as she closed her mouth. She crossed her arms, turning away from Miles.

"She ran into me, I was coming out of the bathroom and she shoved past me to take her turn. She knocked me over into the wall which cause the picture to fall," Miles said.

"That is so not what happened," Layla cut him off.

"Your name isn't Miles," Miles said.

Logan opened his mouth to stop Miles, but Joanna beat him to it.

"Watch that sass mister," Joanna said.

"Anyways I was totally innocent. I was just minding my own business when this rude little gremlin decided to shove me for no reason other than to bully me," Miles said, waving his arms about.

"Drop the theatrics," Carlos said.

"No he was in there forever and I was already at the door asking him to hurry up because other people need to use the bathroom too," Layla said.

"Yes but you didn't need to shove," Miles said.

"You shoved me," Layla said.

"Well I can see we aren't going to settle this any time soon," Logan said, cutting them off. "As much as it pains me to miss this, I have to go."

"Liar," Carlos said glaring half-heartedly at his husband.

"Didn't your parents teach you not to lie," Miles asked.

"I tried, but his dad was there to tell him 'if you're gonna lie at least don't get caught,'" Joanna said, seeping her voice to mimic David's.

"I would never say such a thing," David said as he entered the kitchen. "I always told Hortense the truth is more important than protecting someone's lie."

"Hortense?" Miles asked, turning to Logan.

"His old name," Layla replied laughing.

"I legally changed it the second I turned eighteen, I've been going by Logan since I was ten. Can't we just let that name die?" Logan asked, annoyed.

"Never," David said.

"It was a cute name and a family name," Joanna said.

"Yeah, if we lived in the 1800s," Logan retorted.

"It was an accident," David added.

"How do you accidentally name your child Hortense?" Lucas asked.

"I mixed up the first and middle name boxes and we didn't realize until he was almost a year old that they were backwards on his birth certificate," David said with a shrug.

"So it stuck, but Brooke was right Logan did suit him better," Joanna said.

"So why didn't you guys change it," Miles asked.

"We tried and we got the run around and then we filed the name change and it got 'lost' somewhere and it just became this whole big thing and then when we moved to Minnesota, we couldn't get a copy of his birth certificate to file a new change. It was a whole thing," Joanna said.

"I think we got it done when he was sixteen," David said.

"I just made sure it was official after I turned eighteen," Logan said.

"I thought you had to leave," Layla said, turning to Logan.

"I do, Marcus is making us come in and work," Logan said, making a face. "Anyways, you're both in trouble so you're both on dish duty today, and laundry, together."

"What?!" Layla and Miles shouted in unison.

"You two need to learn how to work together," Logan said, "like it or not you two are siblings and until Miles moves out you two need to learn how to cohabitate," Logan said.

"This is so unfair," Layla groaned.

"I think it's a great idea," Carlos said.

"You're just saying that because you won't have to do laundry today," Logan said.

"And dishes," Carlos added with a grin.

—Happy Mistakes—

Jared tossed Jenny above his head for the hundredth time. She laughed and swung her arms happily. Kyle was sitting beside the two laughing as well.

Jared had come to see Kyle, but Jenny decided she needed to be the center of attention. Kendall and James had been about to leave to go shopping with her when Jared arrived. Kyle had been in the shower, so Jared offered to watch her until they got back.

He took her to the living room to play. At first she pulled out all her toys. Jared had joined her on the floor, until Kyle arrived. She was adorable and her laugh was infectious. Kyle had been willing to join at first, but was starting to get a little grumpy.

"Alright Bee, can I have my boyfriend back?" Kyle asked, leaning over to grab her.

"No mine." Jenny said, hugging Jared when he pulled her close.

"My Jenny-Bee," Jared cooed at her. She giggled and hugged him tighter.

"This is rude," Kyle said.

"Well, maybe if you hadn't left me all alone I wouldn't have needed company," Jared said.

"Are you-are you picking my baby sister over me?" Kyle stuttered.

"Jealous?" Jared asked as he brought Jenny up again making her giggle.

"What-no," Kyle said, shaking his head.

"I think you are," Jared teased, elbowing Kyle lightly. "You hear that Jenny. Kyle is jealous of our friendship."

"Lies," Kyle said, swatting at the older boy. "I just love my sister and want her all to myself." He wrestled the toddler away from Jared.

"My Ky!" Jenny laughed, hugging Kyle now.

"Traitor," Jared gasped.

Jenny just laughed as she bounced on Kyle's lap. The two continued to play and 'fight' over Jenny's attention. She was loving every second of it.

Eventually they settled down with a snack of gummies and almond milk to watch a movie together. Jared talked Jenny into watching Brother Bear, a movie from his childhood. Jenny was a bit hesitant at first but ten minutes in she was absorbed into the movie with Jared.

Halfway through she started yawning and lying across Jared's lap.

"Am I a pillow?" Jared asked teasingly.

Jenny just giggled and hugged his leg. She yawned again. He grabbed Kyle's blanket and covered her up. By the end of the movie she was out.

"Want me to go put her upstairs?" Kyle asked.

"I can do it," Jared said, waving him off.

He shifted the sleeping toddler carefully into his arms. He brought her up to her playpen. He tucked her in with her favorite bear.

He returned to the living room where Kyle was searching for something to watch. Jared crossed the room and sat down beside the blonde once more. He pulled the younger boy into his lap.

"Hey," Kyle said, shocked.

"What? I thought you were jealous earlier, but now it's your turn," Jared said.

"Yes please," Kyle said leaning in and kissing the older man.

—Happy Mistakes—

Kendall nodded along as James talked about the twins' upcoming graduation. They had managed to get out of the house without Jenny. She had attacked Jared as soon as he arrived. He said he didn't mind watching her.

"Anyways, I've talked to the school and they said Kyle is keeping up with his grades," James said as he grabbed some pasta from the shelf.

"Yeah, Miles and Leora have been super helpful reading his assignments to him," Kendall said.

"That's what I said, and now he just has to figure out how to do his two finals," James said, "maybe he could get an accommodation due to extenuating circumstances."

"Like have someone read the finals to him," Kendall asked.

"Yes, I'll have to call the school Monday," James said as he led Kendall down another aisle. He pulled his phone out to look at their grocery list. "We just need a few more things from the list." He said switching gears.

"You'd think we were feeding an army," Kendall said looking down at the cart.

"Between Miles and Jared we are," James laughed. "Not to mention Leora and Lucas when they decided to grace us with their presence."

"I guess," Kendall said.

"And let's not forget how many fruits snacks and apple sauces Jenny goes through," James added.

"She's becoming a terror," Kendall groaned. "I'm glad she's our last. "

"Same, I don't wanna go through this again," James said as he looked at his list then at the shelf before him.

"Hey I got a question," Kendall said suddenly. James paused and looked at Kendall confused. "Totally off track but it's important."

"What?" James asked warily. He never knew what the blonde was gonna say.

"Would you still love me if I was a worm?" Kendall asked.

James' face fell to annoyance before he started laughing. Kendall grinned as he stepped up to his husband. He batted his eyes at him playfully.

"Come on Jamie, I'd love you and put you in a cool worm habitat and keep you cozy," Kendall cooed.

"You are ridiculous," James chuckled, "and sure why not. I'd build you the best worm habitat ever."

"Yes, I knew I picked the right person to marry," Kendall fist pumped as he kissed the brunette on the cheek. James laughed and shoved the blonde away.

"You are something else," James said.

"But you love me, and you married me," Kendall said, flashing his wedding ring at him.

"Yes I did, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat," James replied.

"Ok, let's do it," Kendall said.

"What?" James asked.

"I mean let's renew our vows. Carlos and Logan are doing it, so let's do it," Kendall said.

"Yeah, ok why not," James said.

"Did I just purpose you in a grocery store?" Kendall asked.

"Well it's better than last time," James laughed.

"Yeah, I'm not good at romance. I'm great at being spontaneous though," Kendall laughed.

"Leave the romance to me babe, I got you," James said, patting Kendall's cheek.

"Are we done yet?" Kendall asked, pointing to the cart, his short attention span kicking in.

"Almost, we just need to get more shakes for Kyle," James replied.

"By the way, let's just forget the last ten minutes. I'm gonna take you out to dinner and do it proper this time," Kendall said as they started walking again.

"Proper? You did great, I honestly wouldn't expect anything different from you. It was a perfectly Kendall proposal," James said, falling into stride with Kendall. He linked his arm with him as Kendall pushed the cart.

"Yeah, you're just a big ole sap," Kendall said, bumping him lightly with his shoulder.

"I fear it's only gotten worse with age dear," James replied laughing.

—Happy Mistakes—

Adam set aside another set of silverware he had finished rolling. The lunch rush at the diner had slowed down. Sam was beside him on his phone texting.

Adam looked up as Cooper and the kids entered the diner with Damien, Jake, and Eli behind them. He jumped up running past Sam to greet his babies and help them get a table set up.

"Simmer down there Adam, we all know I'm Miri's favorite," Sam said, taking the wiggling toddler into his arms.

"Sa!" Miri chirped happily as she hugged him tightly.

"Hey kiddo, I missed you too," Sam said, smiling at her as he bounced her in his arms.

"I'm not sure who she likes more, Sam or Kyle," Cooper laughed.

"Brat," Adam said as he gently bounced a happy Kenny.

"She takes after her papa," Damien teased as he bumped his shoulder lightly.

Adam wrinkled his nose as he got a whiff of Damien's cologne. It was extra strong today and it made him gag. He couldn't stand cologne, it was all too much for his nose.

"Dude it's a spritz not the whole bottle," Adam said backing up.

"Stop, it's not that bad," Damien said, shooting him a glare.

"Sorry, when you stop drowning yourself in cologne I'll stop complaining," Adam said.

"I didn't even use that much, the last time you-" Damien paused as Adam's eyes went wide.

He realized what Damien had been about to say. He reached for his phone only to find his pocket empty. They shared a look before Adam handed off Kenny to Damien.

"I'll be right back," Adam said slowly.

"Here," Damien said, handing Kenny off to Cooper. He took off after Adam into the kitchen.. "Adam, it was a joke."

Adam grabbed his wrist and led him to the back telling the cooks he was taking a quick break. He grabbed his sweater and led Damien out to the alley.

"Maybe for you, but…" Adam trailed off as he looked through his phone.

"Don't do that," Damien warned him.

"Oh my god," Adam said.

"No," Damien said, shaking his head.

"This isn't happening," Adam said.

"Are you being serious right now?" Damien asked.

"There's no way, I've been so careful," Adam said, shaking his head. He started counting on his fingers.

"Adam Spencer Knight," Damien said.

"I might be pregnant," Adam said, showing Damien his phone.

"What, how?" Damien asked.

"What do you mean, how? You know how it works!" Adam snapped. "I uh…I may have slacked on my meds a little lately. You know, after we found out Cooper was…oh my god, this is so bad."

"Relax, you've never liked my cologne. This could be you overreacting," Damien said.

"Right, I could just be overreacting," Adam said, nodding his head.

"No, you are overreacting," Damien said.

"What if I'm not," Adam said

"Well then, you better get ready for two more babies," Damien said.

"Cooper is gonna freak," Adam sighed as he fell back against the wall behind him.

"Want me to buy you a test?" Damien asked, leaning against the wall next to him. Adam nodded his head. He took a breath before pushing himself off the wall.

"Let's not worry about that right now. I still have like half a shift left," Adam said.

"Yeah, I'm hungry," Damien said, "let's worry later. Jake's gonna ask, do you want me to lie?"

"No, cause I'm sure they are putting two and two together by now," Adam sighed.

"Nah, Jake's got dad brain bad, and Coopers got pregnancy brain," Damien laughed.

—Happy Mistakes—

Lucas snuggled closer to Artie. After the whole Layla and Miles fight this morning, and a tense lunch followed by a short shopping trip with Joanna and David. Layla and Miles had been at each other's throats the whole time. Lucas had been grateful to get away from his siblings. Artie was a great distraction from that. Artie had taken Lucas out for some ice cream and invited him back to his apartment to watch movies.

They were currently watching the second Hobbit movie and Artie was sharing his opinions on the dwarves. Lucas couldn't help but giggle at his opinions. He had a lot of opinions too. Some Lucas agreed with others he was against. They were just having fun and laughing.

"I mean like come on, why do you need a mountain of gold? They have each other and can start over elsewhere," Artie said.

"It was their home," Lucas replied.

"I guess, but like a dragon took over. Like leave it be," Artie said, waving a hand.

"They just wanted what was theirs. Thorin wanted his honor," Lucas said.

"I'll never understand everyone's obsession with Thorin," Artie said, shaking his head.

"He's the strong fearless leader and he's hot," Lucas said.

"Yeah, but he's also greedy and lets the treasure corrupt him. He doesn't care about the others, all he wants in the gold," Artie replied.

"I guess, when you put it like that," Lucas said thoughtfully.

"Kili is where it's at. He got the girl too. He's got all of Thorin's good qualities and he's kind and caring. He doesn't like the gold fever take over him either," Artie said, "plus he's very nice on the eyes."

"Yeah, you got a thing for Kili?" Lucas chuckled.

"Oh yeah," Artie nodded his head.

"Oh yeah," Artie agreed, "like I just said he's the whole package. What not to like, his looks are just a bonus."

"You're not wrong, but do you wanna know who I've got a thing for?" Lucas asked, chuckling at Artie.

"If you said Thorin—" Artie started.

"You," Lucas said simply.

"Oh," Artie said, smiling at that. "You are definitely the entire package and not fictional."

Lucas laughed as he leaned into the other boy kissing him. Artie pulled him closer, deepening the kiss.

"But Kili couldn't do that to you," Lucas giggled.

"No, he cannot. You are way better than him, especially since he dies in the end," Artie said. He shifted and climbed into Lucas' lap kissing him again. This one was more frantic than the last.

Lucas gasped at Artie's boldness. Artie was always surprising him like this. He was getting used to it as time went on. He liked this side of him.

They had come so far in the year plus this had been dating. Lucas hadn't had much experience dating. He was happy to learn the ropes and Artie was willing to teach him. He had been so patient with him. They had taken their time getting to know each other. Lucas couldn't have asked for anyone better for him. He was so confused as to why Gerald wouldn't give him a chance.

"Stop thinking so hard," Artie said, sitting up. He looked down at Lucas.

"Sorry, just thinking about you honestly," Lucas replied.

"Oh really," Artie said, "well I'm thinking about you."

"I bet you are," Lucas replied.

"Yeah, I'm thinking about how it's a shame you're not kissing me right now," Artie said.

"Well let's fix that," Lucas laughed.

He pulled Artie back down to him, connecting their lips in a fierce kiss. Artie hummed happily as his hands tangled into Lucas's hair. Lucas brought his hands down to Artie's hips pulling him close.

This was something he had gotten more used to as time went on too. Before Artie his experience with kissing was minimal. His dating history was two people, and kissing hadn't really happened much. His first girlfriend, at fourteen, had been hand holding and pecks on the cheek. Then they moved. His next relationship was a few weeks with a girl he had met at physical therapy. She was fun and adventurous, but off to college at the end of that summer. So he had very limited knowledge about dating and sex. Artie was very experienced. Taylor had made sure to tell Lucas he was dating a slut. Artie had corrected him and told Lucas everything, which had been a little intimidating at first. He had assured Lucas it was ok he was inexperienced as he wasn't just after sex. He wanted to take things slow and have a real relationship. Recently Lucas had started taking the next steps. They had done groping and dry humping. The first time Artie had actually gotten him off had been a surprise, but very welcome. Since then Artie had been pushing Lucas a little further each time. He was helping Lucas find what he liked and what he didn't like.

Lucas gasped as Artie started trailing kisses down his neck. Artie had quickly discovered his neck was his weak spot, especially when he used his tongue. Artie gave a small lick to neck as if he read his mind. Lucas gasped and shuddered. The sensation ran right down his spine. He scooted back a bit away from Artie, not wanting him to notice how turned on he was. He didn't want him to laugh at how easy he was.

"Lu, don't be bashful now," Artie cooed in his ear. He licked the side of his neck sending even more pleasant shivers down his spine. Artie shifted his weight, pressing his hips down into Lucas'. "I think you like it."

"Artieee," Lucas whined.

"Yes love?" Artie asked, not stopping his assault on Lucas' neck. He nipped at his adam's apple.

"Not playing fair," Lucas gasped.

"Want me to stop?" Artie asked, pausing his assault.

"No, please don't," Lucas said, his ears heating up.

"Good, cause I don't wanna stop," Artie said.

Artie brought their lips together as he rolled his hips forward. Lucas' hand came up to Artie's shoulders. He clutched at the other boy as he continued to roll his hips.

"Is this ok?" Artie asked, leaning in closer to Lucas's ear.

"Oh…ye-yeah," Lucas gasped as he pushed his hips up matching Artie's rhythm.

"Fuck, you are so sexy like this," Artie purred. A moan slipped from his lips.

"Me?" Lucas asked.

"Yes you," Artie chuckled, "you're so sexy Lucas."

"If you say so," Lucas said, looking away from him.

"I do say so," Artie said. He placed a finger on his chin, turning his face back to him. "You are beautiful and gorgeous and so sexy. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. If they do, they are just jealous."

"Ok," Lucas said slowly.

Artie kissed him again. This kiss was slow and filled with passion and feelings. It was intense and said what words could not. Lucas felt that warm heat spread through his chest. That warm fuzzy feeling that only Artie caused.

"Lucas you turn me on like crazy," Artie continued once they parted.

"Yeah?" Lucas asked, "you do too."

"I can tell," Artie giggled, rolling his hips again. Lucas gasped.

Artie slid off Lucas' lap and to the floor. He knelt between his legs. He paused as he looked up at Lucas, silently asking if this was ok. They had never gone this far before. Lucas bit his lip and nodded his head.

"Words, I need to hear you say it," Artie said.

"Yes, continue," Lucas said, nodding his head again.

Artie reached up and opened his jeans. Lucas lifted his hips as he pulled his jeans and underwear down exposing him. Artie spit in his hand and grabbed his cock. Lucas gasped and bucked his hips in surprise. He had been so lost in his thoughts he had realized what Artie had done. Artie looked up at him with a smirk.

"That good?" Artie asked.

Lucas was at a loss for words. His jaw floundered as he tried to make words. None came to him at this moment.

"Oh just wait, it gets better," Artie said.

He leaned forward, tongue out and lapped at the tip. Lucas almost came right then and there. He moved his hips back away from the appendage.

"Is this ok?" Artie asked worriedly.

"Ye-yeah, just—I-uh-I almost…" Lucas trailed off, his face heating up even more.

"Oh," Artie said, smiling. "Want me to stop?"

"No, no please. That feels good, like really really good," Lucas said.

"I can make you feel so good," Artie offered seductively.

"Please do," Lucas said, nodding his head.

Artie wasted no more time. He leaned forward taking Lucas into his mouth. He paused as Lucas' hand flew to his hair and gripped it right.

A moan tore its way from his throat. Artie started to bob his head, being sure to press his tongue on the underside. Lucas felt like a coil was tightening in his stomach. He was close.

"Artie I-I'm gonna," Lucas gasped.

Artie doubled his efforts. Lucas groaned as he swallowed around him deep throating him. Artie grabbed the base stroking with his hand as well. Lucas felt the coil release. Artie drank it all down. He milked Lucas for every last drop. Artie pulled off with a pop.

"That's definitely better than my hand right?" Artie asked, smirking at him.

"Definitely," Lucas said, reaching out for him. He pulled him back up into his lap. "Thanks for being so patient with me."

"I've told you once and I'll tell you a thousand times, that you are worth the wait," Artie said. He gave him a sweet kiss to further drive the point home.

Lucas twisted them, pushing Artie down to the couch. Artie gasped surprised.

"Your turn," Lucas said as he leaned down kissing him once more.

Layla yawned as she stretched across Erika's bed. She had managed to escape the house and get away from Miles. Erika and Millie were sitting on the floor watching Twilight yet again. They were giggling and quoting the movie.

Layla was bored. She couldn't focus on the movie today. Her mind was elsewhere. She was thinking about Presely. She hadn't really spoken to her since the night she arrived. Seeing her again after all this time brought back the nightmares. She knew that Presely was fighting addiction, and that's what led her to taking her and Lilly away.

At the time Layla had thought Presely was taking them for a vacation. She didn all kinds of fun things with them that week. However, after Carlos and Logan found them and informed her that Presley wasn't supposed to take them, it made her fearful. She was scared of anyone who wanted to take her anywhere away from her dads. She had even been scared to go with Kendall and James anywhere. Then the nightmares of Presely coming to take them again came. It had taken therapy and a lot of convincing from Logan that she was safe. Now all those emotions and fears were back, even though Layla knew things were different. She knew Presely was working on her sobriety and her cancer treatments.

"You awake up there?" Erika asked, poking Layla's side.

Layla jerked and squirmed away from the intruding finger. She looked over at Erika who was grinning at her.

"Sorry, just thinking is all," Layla apologized.

"You ok? You've been acting a bit off lately," Erika asked. She stood and sat on the bed beside her.

"Yeah, I'm fine," Layla said.

"Really?" Erika asked.

"It's because her aunt is staying with them," Mille said. Layla shot her a traitorous look. "You might as well tell her."

"What?" Erika asked.

Layla sat up making room for Erika beside her. She pulled her knees to her chest. She looked down at the bed as she picked at the blanket.

"It's ok Lay, you can tell me anything," Erika said.

"When I was little my aunt basically kidnapped me and Lilly for a week," Layla sighed. She felt tears coming, but fought them back. This wasn't something to cry about.

"Oh," Erika said. Mille stood and sat on the edge of the bed as well.

"Yeah and at the time Lilly and I thought it was just a fun vacation for us and Auntie," Layla said, "but when dad and Papi found us. I don't think I'd ever seen Papi so mad. Dad yeah, he's the authoritarian and his word is final, but he's not mean. Papi that day…it was scary," Layla said. She kept picking at the blanket. She couldn't look up at Erika or Millie. "And like I know things are different and her and dad talked it out and I think Lilly and Papi too, but like…the nightmares I had are back and-and"

Erika grabbed her hand. Layla froze and finally looked up at her. The tears finally fell. She hastily wiped them away. Erika however pulled her into a hug. Millie moved to her other side, joining the hug.

"It's ok, your feelings are valid Lay," Erika said softly. "What you feel is real to you and she broke your trust. It's ok to be upset."

"I hate that your mom is a therapist sometimes," Layla mumbled.

"Yeah, but it helps out sometimes," Erika chuckled. She and Mille sat back.

"Thanks, sorry I've been off lately," Layla said, "I know I have to talk to her, but like I don't know what to say or do."

"And that is perfectly ok, you don't have to do anything you're not ready for," Erika said.

"Did I mention she has cancer, stage three I believe and she might not have a lot of time left," Layla said.

"Oh well that complicates things a bit," Erika said.

"Yeah," Layla sighed.

"It's ok to be mad at her. She violated your trust. I'm sure she was a trusted adult previously," Erika said.

"Yeah, Lilly and I were in the dark about her addiction and we never saw her without dad and Papi or grandma and grandpa around but she was the fun aunt," Layla said nodding her head.

"I think you do need to talk to her," Erika said slowly. Layla's head snapped up to look at the other Latina. "In order for you to move on fully and forgive her, you need to talk and get this all out in the open with her. There will be pain and crying, but that's part of healing."

"Ok you need to stop reading your moms books," Millie joked.

"I'm serious," Erika said.

"I know," Layla said, "I know I need to talk to her, but I'm scared."

"Do you want me to be there with you?" Erika asked.

"Me too," Mille said.

"I don't know," Layla said.

"Or I'm sure your dads would help," Millie said quickly.

"Yeah, coaching me and coaxing me to do things I'm not ready for," Layla said.

"Or Lilly, isn't she coming home next week after her finals?" Erika asked.

"Maybe," Layla said thoughtfully. "Thank you by the way, both of you."

"No prob Bob, we got your back," Millie said waving a hand at her.

"Always," Erika agreed. She grabbed Layla's hand and gave it a squeeze.

Layla smiled at her, she felt a little more at ease. Erika always knew how to comfort her and help her process her emotions or she gave her the space she needed. Millie was always so supportive too, always trying her best to help. Layla was lucky to have both these girls in her life.

Logan entered the house. He was surprised to find it quiet. He had thought he would be arriving to Miles and Layla fighting again. He didn't smell dinner cooking either, which was odd. Normally Carlos or Joanna had something cooking by now.

He looked up as Joanna and David walked down the hallway, greeting him with smiles. He looked around waiting for the kids to bombard him with complaints of their punishments.

"Hey, where is everybody?" Logan asked.

"Miles and Layla drove everyone away, Lucas ran away as soon as he could. They even chased your sister to the back porch to get away from their yelling," David said.

"So Carlos finally told them to get out of the house. He said he didn't care where they went, they just needed to leave," Joanna said.

"Sounds about right," Logan nodded his head.

"Anyways your mother and I are going out," David said.

"I think Carlos is putting away the last of the laundry. They made an attempt and got two loads done but he kicked them out after they started the third," Joanna said.

"Ok, well have fun," Logan said smiling at them.

David and Joanna left. Logan made his way upstairs. He found Carlos in the den putting Lucas and Miles' clothes away.

"You chased the kids and my parents out of the house?" Logan asked.

Carlos jumped slightly. He turned around to glare at Logan. Logan smiled guiltily.

"No, I chased the kids out after they fought all afternoon. Lucas ran away to Artie's to get away from them. So I sent them out, and your dad decided to take your mom out on a date," Carlos said.

"Gross, they are old, they don't date," Logan said making a face.

"Dating is what keeps a marriage alive. You know that, that's one of the things Darlene told us," Carlos replied.

"Well yeah, but their my parents and they don't do gross things like that. They are way too old to date and other things that come with dates," Logan said.

"Oh big brother, you have no idea how much they still do all that," Presely said as she walked down the hallway with a book in one hand and her headphones in the other.

"Gross, stop," Logan said, shaking his head, "I don't wanna have that mental image."

"Me either, so Imma take a hint and go for a walk in the park," Presely said, "can I borrow a car?"

"Here," Logan fished his keys out of his pocket. He tossed them to her. "There's a nice park nearby, like three blocks down and then about six-ish blocks to the left."

"Sweet thanks, I'll be back in an hour or so," Presely said.

She left without another word. Logan turned back to Carlos who was done putting laundry away. He took the basket from the Latino and brought it to the laundry room. He returned to the hallway where Carlos was waiting for him.

"So, what do you wanna do for dinner?" Logan asked.

"Depends," Carlos said.

"On?" Logan asked.

"Are you on the menu?" Carlos asked, stepping up to him. He grabbed Logan's hands, arching an eyebrow at him.

"Normally I'd say yes, but now I have the image of my mom and dad in my head and I'm not particularly in the mood," Logan replied.

"Why do you gotta do that," Carlos groaned leaning forward into the taller man. "Don't put that in my head now."

"How about dinner and we see where things go, I just need to forget the conversation we just had," Logan laughed.

"I'm sure we could whip up something quick," Carlos said. He led Logan to the kitchen.

The two set about making dinner together. Something they hadn't done in awhile. Carlos handled the main dish while Logan looked around to see what side he could make. Carlos decided on making some homemade pizza bagels. Logan found enough stuff to make two small side salads. He moved over to help Carlos with the pizza.

"Here, I think you missed a spot," Logan said. He swiped his finger in the sauce and smeared some on Carlos' cheek.

"Hey," Carlos said, annoyed. He grabbed some cheese and tossed it at Logan.

Logan laughed and tossed some back. Carlos took a pepperoni and stuck it on his cheek in retaliation. They both laughed as they continued to "help" one another. Eventually the bagels were put in the toaster oven and they started to eat their salads after they cleaned up.

"You're not very good at cooking," Carlos said as they sat down.

"What are you talking about, I'm practically a pro chef," Logan joked.

"Oh totally, except you kept missing the bagel and getting it on me," Carlos laughed.

"Well, my aim was just a little off, that's all," Logan replied, sticking his tongue out at the Latino.

"Way off," Carlos shot back.

"Well there goes my pro chef career, might as well stick to being a doctor," Logan sighed.

"Yes please don't quit your day job," Carlos laughed again.

They ate their dinner laughing and joking together. They talked about work and the kids. Logan couldn't help but feel like he was really connecting with Carlos again. Things were easy. Sure they had their issues, but they had learned to talk things out. Logan had also learned to accept his own flaws and Carlos' as well. It has been a big step to fixing their relationship.

After dinner they cleaned up and relocated to the living room. Logan put on a movie. They sat side by side bumping each other and picking on the other playfully. They were laughing and not paying any mind to the movie.

Logan wasn't sure who started it, but he quickly found himself hovering over the Latino as they kissed. Carlos' hands were moving down his sides causing him to shiver in anticipation.

"Should we take this upstairs?" Carlos asked.

"Yes before someone comes home," Logan said. He turned the movie off. He stood holding a hand out to his husband.

He led him upstairs to their bedroom. The door barely slipped shut when Carlos pushed him against it, kissing him hard. Logan groaned, pulling him closer. He had missed this closeness. It was nice to have the house to themselves for once. He was going to take advantage of it.

"Stop thinking so hard," Carlos said.

"Huh?" Logan asked.

"We don't have time for you to be distracted, get naked now," Carlos said.

"Yes sir," Logan laughed.

He kissed the Latino once more as he started to undress. Carlos was right they didn't have time to take their time. Someone could be home any minute.

—Happy Mistakes—

Kendall sat back in the living room with his family. They were all busy having fun. It was a nice distraction from the usual hustle and bustle that kept them all busy and apart.

Jared and Leora played with Jenny. They were teaching her the patty cake rhyme and other clapping games. She was living the attention. Kyle was sitting on the couch snuggled in his blanket giving his input not and them. James was making snacks in the kitchen for movie night. Miles was trying to pick a movie while Kyle, Leora, and Jared all vetoed his picks between games with Jenny.

"You guys are being difficult," Miles groaned.

"Sorry but we've seen those ones," Kyle said.

"Or have heard they aren't worth the hype," Jared added.

"Just pick a movie," Kendall said standing up. "I'm gonna go check on the snack situation."

He left the living room. He entered the kitchen as James exited the bathroom that was just off the kitchen, he was holding a hand to his mouth.

"You ok?" Kendall asked worried.

"Yeah, dinner just didn't agree with me," James replied as he crossed the kitchen.

"Again?" Kendall asked.

"I'm fine," James said, waving a hand.

"You've been sick a lot lately," Kendall said, frowning. "I've heard you puking the last few mornings."

"I'm fine, probably just a stomach bug," James replied. He walked over to the popcorn bowls and drinks. "Wanna help me with these."

"Yeah," Kendall said slowly.

He looked James up and down. He was a bit pale, but he had just puked. Other than that he looked fine. That seemed to be the only thing wrong lately. Kendall had caught him puking the last few mornings, usually after breakfast. He had been falling asleep earlier than normal. Was that connected?

"Stop worrying, I'm fine," James said.

"I can't help it," Kendall said.

"I'm fine," James said.

"I know, but I just worry. I don't like seeing you or the kids sick," Kendall said.

"If it bothers you that much I'll go see a doctor. It's probably just a stomach bug," James said.

"Ok," Kendall sighed. He knew better than to push James, even if he was worried.

"Let's get the snacks out to the kids before they riot," Kendall said.

James laughed, "Have they even picked a movie yet?"

"Not when I was there, they kept telling Miles no to everything he suggested," Kendall sighed.

"Sounds about right," James chuckled.

He grabbed the two bowls of popcorn while Kendall grabbed the sodas. They made their way out to the living room where the movie was starting. Pirates of the Caribbean they were told. Everyone was settled down. Leora was sitting with Jenny on the floor. Jared was next to Kyle and Miles was on the love seat. Kendall and James handed out sodas and popcorn and then they sat down on the couch together.

It was moments like this that he loved. The ebb and flow of family life. The fun and shared moments with each other. The calm movie nights. The chaotic dinners where everyone is moving and laughing. The chatter and catching up. Normally they were all busy and on the move. These moments were rare.

Also as time went on he noticed more and more how it changed. Before Jenny, or Jared and Miles joining in there were movie nights with Jake and Adam. Those nights were just as fun. It would usually involve Jake and Adam arguing with Kyle over what movie to watch. In the end Leora almost always just put a movie on and they sat down to watch. There were arguments about who got to hold the popcorn and who got what soda.

He missed those days, but he also loved these new memories they were creating too. There would be times to catch up with Jake and Adam too. They needed to plan a get together soon.

A soft snore brought him back from his musings. He looked down at James who was softly snoring beside him. He looked at the others. Kyle, Jared, and Miles were absorbed in the movie, talking softly with each other about the movie. Leora was holding a sleepy Jenny. Kendall snuggled James closer returning his attention to the movie.
