Situations from their lives

Grasp of the white death, part 3, finish

The trio took a moment to plan out their fight. As well as letting Link to fully heal from having been close of dying by freezing. Dark thought more often than not about sending his younger brothers back to the castle but he knew better than to suggest it out loud. Neither the younger dark Hylian nor the Hero would allow such for any of reason.

When they finally left the safety of the small shelter Darky had created, the weather had cleared out. It was still very cold but at least the snowing and harsh wind had stopped. "So, to the top we go!" Dark half sang, half shouted after having found the peak of the mountain into his sight.

"Just be careful, guys. I don't know where those two hide in there." Link warned as he followed the dark Hylians.

Dark chuckled and grinned. "No worries." He started and licked at his lips. "They'll be more than sorry for having messed with you, lil bro." The oldest brother told with dead serious voice.

Darky raised an eyebrow at the older Shadow's words. "He'll be enjoying of the upcoming fight." He half mumbled and glanced at the Hero for the umpteenth time by now.

Link nodded but when he noticed the worried gaze given to him, he sighed almost annoyed. "For the love of the Goddesses, Darky! I'm alright already!" The swordsman half barked and slightly startled his adopted brother. The Hero sighed and gave an apological smile. "Sorry. I know you're worried but you two cleared the danger off already. I'm fine. Honestly." He told with calmer voice before raising his gaze up into the fighting area they were heading into. "I'm simply trying to get into the mood of the upcoming battle."

Darky nodded and stayed silent. He still couldn't shake off the worry he was feeling for his older brother. Link had survived from the weather's trap but he was in worse situation for the fight to come without the chainmail.

"Don't worry, Sweet Pea. We won't let either of those freaks touch him." Dark told with a reassuring grin as he glanced behind him at his brothers. "So, which do you want to beat, bro? The Lynel or the Wizzrobe?"

"The one you don't fight against." Darky replied with a slightly smug grin. Dark chuckled and simply nodded. Link frowned at the duo but soon shrugged it off when he realized what they were doing. He had long ago learned to noticed the small notions that gave out his brothers having a conversation through mind while talking in Shadowy.

It felt like a shorter trek to top of the small mountain with his brothers by him. "Careful now, guys." He half warned while as silently as possible drawing out his weapons. Dark and Darky nodded while mimicking their brother with the exception of the older one taking out only his sword.

They carefully ventured into the area in search of the two enemies. The two dark Hylians stayed close to the Hero even though they could've cowered more of the area if they had separated. Yet, they felt too worried for their brother to leave him out of their notion. Suddenly the older one placed his hand to the Hero's shoulder and stopped him.

Link had just been rounding one of the crashed walls when his older brother startled him. He frowned and turned his gaze into the dark Hylian. Dark simply showed to stay quiet before pointing to the lump of snow in front of them. The cerulean eyed Hylian turned his gaze back into the area with a frown but suddenly he noticed what his brother was seeing.

A movement of a tail. The main body was hidden by the snow but the tail was swishing from side to side. If it hadn't been for his brother's better sight, he never would've noticed the movement.

Dark glanced at his youngest brother whom was keeping eye on their surroundings after having realized what had stopped the Hero and the older Shadow. The older dark Hylian quietly stabbed his sword into the snow before quietly taking out his bow and arrows. He knocked one of the projectiles and took aim. If he had been there alone, he would've awakened the beast and fought eye to eye with it. But now, having both of his brothers there, and with Link being in the condition he was in, he didn't dare to take the risks of harsher battle.

Being unable to figure out where the head of the Lynel was, Dark had to guess. Hoping for his luck, he let the arrow fly. The beast roared in pain and struck up to its feet with the sharp weapon between its shoulders. "Crap…" The oldest brother half whispered when the enemy glared straight at the trio.

The Lynel dashed forward while swinging its double-axe. The three Hylians swiftly moved out of the way and got ready for the fight. "Stay at your guard, bros!" Link half shouted while slightly fearfully glancing around himself. "The Wizzrobe's here somewhere and I'm sure it'll show up soon enough." He warned before bringing his gaze back into the Lynel.

"Link! Move!" Darky shouted when the huge monster dashed towards the trio again. The Hero gasped in slight shock and quickly dived off of the way. As he somersaulted on the snowy ground, he saw the beast strike at the wall and break it easily. Link gulped once as he got to his feet and backed off swiftly.

Dark and Darky dashed forward and slashed at the Lynel's side and rear. The monster half roared, half growled at the attack before jumping off to side. Link gasped and made a hasty retreat from beside the maned creature. The beast roared again and dashed forward while swinging its weapon. The two dark Hylians easily dived away from the way.

"We'd need to get close to it." Link half whispered when Darky backed to his side. The Half-Shadow simply nodded while keeping his gaze in their enemy. "On this way we're only avoiding without getting anything done." The Hero continued before half cursing as the Lynel was coming at them again.

The two younger brothers dived off of the way to different sides of the enemy. Dark had been running after the monster but he wasn't fast enough to catch it. The Lynel growled as it made a sliding stop and turned around.

Link had dived behind one of the crashed walls and took a quick glanced around. He had come into a short corridor of sorts. "Higher ground…" The Hero thought with a slight grin as he already dashed towards other one of the walls. He jumped against it before already bouncing off of it to top of the opposite wall.

The Lynel dashed at the two dark Hylians since it had lost its earlier target behind a pillar. It knew it wouldn't be able to strike at the duo but it didn't really matter since the duo couldn't attack it either. The only problem was that its targets kept on staying at both sides of it instead of together.

Link stayed on crouching position and waited for the Lynel to roar again. When it did that, he quickly sheathed his sword to keep the beast from hearing the slight metallic sound of his action. After that he put the shield off and drew out his bow and arrows. For a moment he thought about using magic in his attack but chose against it. His strength wasn't in the best of way and the cold weather was hindering his already lousy ability with the magic.

The Hero took once a deep breath and took aim. He waited for the beast to slide into a stop before firing the arrow. Yet, he had let the projectile fly bit too early since the enemy hadn't had the time to turn around. The Lynel roared as the arrow struck into the lower part of its back.

Link cursed silently and readied another arrow. The beast thought for a split second about striking either with beam of ice or an arrow but chose against it. The other two fighters could easily use the given time of charging for their advantage. So, the Lynel dashed towards the wall with full intention of either breaking it down or at least to knock the attacker into ground.

The two dark Hylians realized the situation swiftly and made a mad dash towards the wall where Link was standing upon. "Damnit, guys, get off of the way…" The Hero half muttered in worry for his brothers but neither of the Shadows gave any of notion of having heard him as they stood in front of the wall.

Lynel only smirked as it thought about crushing the duo against the wall and hitting the third down. It only fastened its pace when Dark and Darky readied for the impact. The duo screamed out their battle cry almost simultaneously as they slashed with the swords. The attack they launched was struck bit too early since neither hit into their target but it didn't really matter. The action still had the needed reaction as the beast struck a very swift jump backwards to avoid the blades.

Link sighed in relief and started to take aim again when something caught his notion. A quiet sound of glass gently hitting into glass got him to glance behind him. He gasped in shock when his gaze fell into the Ice Wizzrobe which had already unleashed an attack towards him.

The Hero didn't have any of chances to avoid the strike and he gasped more in shock than in pain when the magic hit into his chest. He almost fell off of the wall but somehow managed to hold on to his balance. Link blinked few times while frowning at the oddity of the magic since it didn't seem to have caused a thing to him. Yet, as he returned his gaze back into his enemy, the Wizzrobe already send another attack at him.

Dark and Darky turned their gaze up into their brother when the first strike was dealt but the Wizzrobe was hidden from their sight. "Link?" Darky called bit worriedly but soon he gasped in shock when the Hero went flying off of the wall. "LINK!" The young dark Hylian screamed and dashed after his brother whom struck hard into the snowy ground back first.

Dark had frowned in worry at the first action of his younger brother but since Link hadn't fallen off of the wall, he returned his gaze into the Lynel. The dark Hylian could feel that something wasn't right since the beast seemed to be waiting for something. And then he heard the Hero's scream which caused him to turn his notion back into him.

The oldest brother gasped in terror at the sight but somehow he managed to push his first reaction off of his head. Instead of dashing to his fallen brother's side, he ran towards the Lynel that was ready to attack against Link and Darky. With a swift slash, that didn't do much of other than nick at the beast's shoulder, he was able to get the enemy to jump to side and turn its notion into him.

Darky hid the ground and slid next to the Hero. "Link? Are you alright?" He inquired in concern but he didn't get an answer from his brother. Link was shivering tremendously while gasping for air. He kept his eyes tightly shut while simply concentrating into staying alive. "Link?" The youngest brother called in slight fear as he noticed the golden haired warrior's lips turning blue out of hypothermia.

Suddenly Darky noticed the Ice Wizzrobe out of the corner of his eye. He swiftly stood up and turned around to face the enemy. "Just hang in there, bro. I just gotta deal with that freak." The Half-Shadow told and glanced at his oldest brother.

Dark, much to his own disappointment, wasn't doing much of attacking against the Lynel. He simply stood to his place, waited for the beast to charge at him and his brothers before slashing and forcing the enemy to back away again. The dark Hylian glanced at his brothers every now and then to make sure they were safe. His gaze hardened when he noticed the Ice Wizzrobe having come to join in the battle. It was also when he locked his gaze with Darky's and simply gave a swift nod. The younger one returned the action in mutual understanding. Dark would keep the Lynel off of Link while Darky would handle the Wizzrobe off.

The younger dark Hylian stood to his place while knowing there was only one way to defeat his enemy by one strike. And yet, doing that needed timing and quick actions. Not to mention for patience which he was having less and less because of the Hero's condition. He kept on glancing at Link while keeping eye on the high being Wizzrobe.

Eventually the magician had enough of waiting and started to recharge a new attack. Darky didn't wait even for a second as he already drew a ball of fire at the icy creature. It was small, swiftly done and weak attack but his aiming was perfect. The Wizzrobe only realized the danger coming but it wasn't fast enough to stop charging its magic and avoid.

The sound of shattering glass was heard when the fire ball struck into the enemy. The monster didn't even hit the ground before it was already gone in puff of smoke. Darky sighed in relief and relaxed slightly. Yet, nearly instantly afterwards his victory he already turned around while putting his weapons off and kneeling down to Link's side.

The young dark Hylian placed his hand over the Hero's chest but recoiled back straight off. "You're as cold as ice!" He exclaimed in shock before, after a moment's hesitation, placed his hand back to his brother's chest. Link gave out a weak whine of pain at the action.

"Shit… That bastard's freezing you from inside…" Darky whispered sorrowfully while thinking his head through for a way to save his brother. As Link's condition kept worsening, his breath came out as white mist. "Damnit! I'm running out of time!" The young Half-Shadow though in near panic while biting down to his lower lip. "Link… I'm sorry but this is going to hurt…" He apologized before taking a deep breath and taking his hand off of Link's chest.

Darky glanced at his oldest brother whom was still keeping the Lynel busy. After that he returned his gaze into his older brother and took another deep breath. As he slowly let it out, he called out the heat of Din's Fire. When he felt it at his left hand, he took another deep breath to get himself ready for the task at hand. "I'm sorry, bro." The dark Hylian whispered before slightly slamming his hand into the Hero's chest.

Link gasped, suddenly sat up into half sitting position and shot his eyes open while giving out a silent scream as the heat of Din's Fire raced through his whole body. Darky shut his eyes tightly since he didn't want to see the pain he was causing to one of his closest family members. After eternity felt time the Hero finally relaxed from the stiff position and laid back down into the snow. The ruby eyed swordsman by him slowly opened his eyes and carefully took his hand off from the chest of the Master Sword's wielder. "Link…?" Darky called tentatively while fearing to have failed with his work.

Link took a deep breath and slowly opened his eyes. "I'm okay, bro." He half whispered while carefully sitting up. Suddenly he gasped when the young dark Hylian more or less glomped him with a swift shout of his name.

"Goddesses! You have no idea how worried I was!" Darky whispered in relief of knowing his brother was alright. Link bit chuckled with a small smile and returned the hold as well as he could with his brother quite well tying his arms. Yet, soon they turned their notion into their oldest brother.

Dark had kept close eye on his brothers to know how things were going with them. He kept the Lynel busy and out of moving past him but now, knowing that Link was safe and well, he almost smirked as he returned his full notion into the beast in front of him. "Playtime's over." The oldest brother told with almost sadistic smirk.

When the Lynel charged at him again, Dark put his sword away and took a good stance. He knew to be freaking the living hell out of his brothers as he didn't move off the way or force the beast to stop and back off. Instead, the dark Hylian took hold of the monster's horns and fought to stop his enemy's movement.

The Lynel did its best to keep on running forward to crush its target either into its hooves or against a wall or such. Yet, it ended up confused as it was forced into a stop. "Didn't wait for that, huh?" Dark asked with a smug smirk. The half lion, half horse roared in anger and struck to its hindlegs but its plan didn't exactly go as it hoped for.

The oldest brother chuckled slightly as he took the given flight into the air and, much to the Lynel's horror, landed to the beast's back. Dark was swift to draw out his sword and start to slash and stab while desperately staying at his place for as long as possible. Eventually, after having given about dozen hits, he quickly moved on the Lynel's back and backflipped off.

The enemy jumped away from its attacker while turning around to see him. After a new roar it charged forward again in near rage. Dark stayed calm as he changed his sword into bow and arrows. He didn't panic at all while knocking an arrow and sending it off. The Lynel made as quick turn as it could to avoid the send attack but the projectile struck into its horn. Out of surprise the beast roared while stopping and hitting to its hindlegs.

Dark didn't waste any of time as he already drew out his sword and attacked. He gave a strong diagonal strike at the beast's chest before swiftly going for horizontal attack around his target's throat. The creature went silent out of shock before crashing to its side dead. Yet, after dealing the lethal strike, the Shadow had already turned around while resting his sword by his shoulder.

"You really gotta give me harder battles to deal with, bro!" Dark called with a half grin, half smirk as he walked towards his younger brothers. Link and Darky sighed in relief and relaxed when the Lynel vanished. "You okay, Duckling?" The oldest brother inquired bit worriedly while crouching down next to the duo.

Link smiled a bit and nodded. "Yeah… I'm okay." He replied before bit frowning at the slight glimmering he noticed at the foot of a close by crashed wall. "Shit…" The Hero muttered before already reaching out to both of his brothers. "EYES CLOSED! NOW!" The golden haired warrior screamed while forcing the two dark Hylians down towards the snowy ground. He himself leaned over their heads to create some kind of shelter while shutting his own eyes tightly.

Link barely had time to give the warning out when the bright light already flashed around them. Even the Hero himself flinched slightly at strength of how the curse on the area broke. He heard his brothers gasp while wishing that neither was harmed by the strong and bright magic of Light.

"You guys okay?" Link called worriedly while carefully sitting up straight and looking at his brothers. The duo slowly sat up straight too and gave a small nod. The Hero sighed in relief and relaxed a bit.

"Where the snow vanished?" Darky inquired while frowning and looking around the green grass of the small mountain of sorts.

"That was simply caused by the two monsters at here." Link answered with a small smile. "With the Lynel and Ice Wizzrobe gone, nothing was left to uphold the curse they had placed upon this place." He explained and stood up before offering his hands to his brothers. The duo gladly took the given help to get to their feet. Yet, nearly instantly after that they hugged their brother.

"Just glad you're well, bro." Darky told out and Dark simply nodded his agreement. Link bit chuckled and nodded while returning the hold. After having calmed down, the trio checked the area a bit more but as they came empty handed from hidden pathways and more monsters, they left the area.

While walking down from the small grassy and sunny mountain Link closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He could easily feel the eyes of both of his brothers on him. "Just enjoying of the warmth of the sun, guys." The Hero explained with a small smile while letting the nature itself vanquish the last bits of cold off of his body.

The road back to the castle felt shorter than the trek up into the mountain. Link and his brothers went first to Zelda's office to explain how things had gone. The Queen straight off got up from her desk the moment she saw the Hero and rushed over to him to hug him tightly. After reassurances and explanations, the two dark Hylians left the room with a knowing grin. They simply let the duo have a moment of privacy as well as giving the simple fact of Link being safe and sound to really register in the leader's understanding.

Once the Hero returned to the room he shared with his brothers, he took a long and warm shower. After that he pretty much pleaded for a massage which, after a moment of slight teasing, the oldest brother gave him. Soon after the trio snuggled up close to each other on the bed and fell asleep.
