Hewwooo!

I had this idea since I've reread 'Second Home' (on ao3 by ChocolateSyrup.) If you read that amazing fanfic, you already know what this story will exactly be about. If you haven't... well... you'll have to read my story to find out ;)

I hope y'all enjoy this new story. I'm quite proud of this one :)

In the last year and a half, everything Sonic had dreamed of became reality. Sonic thought he would always remain hidden, only lurking in the shadows, watching Green Hill's unsuspecting residents go about their days, having movie nights "with" his favorite family, and having fun messing with Crazy Carl. However, after a relatively small explosion on the baseball field (caused by his ten-year loneliness), Sonic ended up spending a few days on a cross-country road trip with his favorite person—Donut Lord—while being hunted by a robotics-based scientist with an undeniably impressive mustache.

They had some fun, some fights, a scared auntie, a bunch of broken bots, and Robotnik being tossed into a portal to a mushroom world. Following that trip, Sonic ended up living with Tom and his wife, Maddie.

Active in the community and beloved by its citizens, Sonic was more than happy to finally have someone he could talk to, people he could call friends, be able to interact with the Greenhill residents, be part of the baseball team, have a home, a family he could confide in, and a family with whom he, eventually, felt comfortable sharing his past. A family that always helped him through whatever struggle he was facing after ten years of isolation. The family that was always there to console him when he had a nightmare about Longclaw (he really misses her sometimes).

As his best year (yet) on Earth came to a close, his parents—even though, back then, he considered them just his friends—well, more like a weird mix between friends and parents—considered him responsible enough to leave him home alone during a weekend. Rachel was going to get married, and Sonic had the whole house to himself.

What he thought was going to be just a really fun weekend turned into so much more. Eggman was back, accompanied by a mysterious red Echidna named Knuckles.

They quickly began fighting, and, after some 'honor my tribe' and 'does it look like I need your power?' nonsense, a twin-tail fox named Tails appeared to help him escape.

After they managed to escape and went to Siberia (he was not going to let down Longclaw, after all!), Tails told him he had spied watched him pretty much after the whole explosion accident. Sonic would've been creeped out by it if it wasn't for the fact that he had spied on the Green Hill residents for ten years. Besides, he could tell the fox was as lonely as he was a year before everything had changed for him.

And in the span of two days, everything had changed once again. Sonic found himself with two brothers, the realization and acceptance of Tom and Maddie being his parents, and his family of three becoming a family of five. The idea of a bigger family was exciting. Unfortunately, it did come with challenges. Going from only child to middle child had been somewhat... complicated for Sonic. He had to learn how to share his room with his brothers, his stuff, how to spend time with each brother individually, and more than that, how to share his parents.

It had been very hard at first, but, eventually, the blue blur realized (with his parents' and brothers' help) that while he got to spend less time with his parents, he was able to spend more time with his brothers. He, eventually, understood that Tom and Maddie aren't just his parents anymore, but Tails' and Knuckles' parents, too. And now, months later, Sonic feels that being part of a bigger family is better than he could have ever imagined. He felt so blessed to have the life he has now.

However, there was a tiny little problem: the rest of the world.

A year and a half ago, the world, besides the lovely hometown of Green Hills, had more or less no idea who Sonic was.

However, a million-ton robot and a large swath of destroyed forest on the other hand… a little bit harder to hide from the public. Out-of-towners captured short snapshot videos or photos of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. While, at first, it was dismissed as a hoax, their persistence and the fact that there was no reason for them to be photoshopped made people around the world suddenly become very much aware of aliens being real.

News organizations and international governments hurried to get as much information on the aliens as possible. The news cycle filled with whatever new conspiracy ideas people had. People trying to infiltrate the town, attempting to 'see them up and close' (which was word-for-word to what someone had said to his dad when he had caught the intruders)

Sonic would be lying if he said that the world knowing of his and his brother's existences didn't make him, Tails, and Knuckles anxious.

And that's when G.U.N. stood up.

The Guardian Units of Nations were created to catch, confine, and, if necessary, eliminate any dangers from alien life. They had planned to capture him and Tails, but when Robotnik returned, the need for them proved too great, and G.U.N. was left a little unsure of what to do. So, what was their 'solution'? Spying on them, of course!

There had been spies in the town over the last four months or so. Sonic noticed, his brothers noticed, and his parents definitely noticed. His parents made many calls to the government in the hopes of stopping it, but the US government declared that no such agency existed as Sonic found a guy hidden in their bushes, wearing G.U.N. clothing, for the third time that week. At least, that meant no more conspiracy theorists infiltrating Green Hill. Or random calls for strangers interested (whatever that meant) in them. A loose perimeter was set up around the town that checked the business of anyone entering it.

While it wasn't exactly what any of them wanted, at least it became a lot more peaceful.

And, thankfully, a few weeks ago, the 'G.U.N. people' just vanished. It seemed like the government deemed them safe enough (at least for now). Which was great!

And now, a year and a half after the explosion, Sonic and his brothers got up to eat breakfast.

The whole family was going to Sonic's baseball game this morning. Sonic had been non-stop talking about it for a week.

As Sonic was heading to the kitchen and chatting with his brothers, they got interrupted by their parents' 'good mornings.'

"Excited for your baseball game?" Maddie asked as she put the food, she was making on everyone's plate.

"You bet!" Sonic said. Stuffing a pancake in his mouth immediately after.

"I still don't understand why you get so excited about those games. You can barely dishonor anyone in those games. It doesn't have the fun!" Knuckles said.

His big brother still had some problems understanding baseball rules and the game's integrity. In all fairness, it wasn't like Knuckles found fun playing the game the way it was supposed to, to begin with. And besides, he wasn't allowed to play with them because of his extreme, in learning process of how to be controlled, strength.

"Iffs the ruwes and shtragies thet mmmeke it fan, ya know?." Sonic replied, with food stuffed inside his mouth.

Tom frowned. While Knuckles just looked confused.

"Sonic swallow." Tom commanded. The blue blur complied, slightly coughing as the dry lump of baked sugar and flour slipped down his throat.

"I think what Sonic said is that baseball is just a game. It isn't meant to dishonor anyone. It's the rules and strategies that make it fun." Tails said, after finishing eating one of his pancakes. It was kind of unfortunate that Tails couldn't be on the baseball team with him, either. He was too young. At least, he would be with him in a few years.

"Exactly." Sonic nodded.

"I still don't understand your enthusiasm for base of ball, hedgehog. But I'll still be watching your game today." Knuckles replied sincerely.

"I know you will." Sonic answered after he finished his last pancake.

After they finished their breakfast, the family of five immediately went to the baseball game. The field was already surrounded by a bunch of noise, even 30 minutes before the game actually started.

Once they got there, Sonic said his goodbyes to his parents and brothers and got ready for the baseball game.

As Sonic and his team were about to start preparing themselves for the baseball game, a golden circle appeared out of nowhere in the middle of the field. Everyone stopped. The usual noises, from parents, kids, and players, vanished. The circle continued spinning until it formed perfectly.

Sonic doesn't get it. Why does anyone put a ring in the middle of Green Hill to begin with? It doesn't make sense!

And it certainly couldn't have been Eggman! Eggman was… probably dead. Bue even if he wasn't, he definitely didn't have any rings of his own. Sonic made sure of that. What was even stranger is that the light the portal was emitting looked like a void of glowing white light.

Still, Sonic prepared himself for whatever or whoever the portal might send through. Moving closer to it as Tails and Knuckles joined him.

The Greenhill's residents (including his parents) move back, letting them do their thing.

And then, an owl stumbles forward from the portal itself, standing unsteadily on two feet. His or her wing is gently holding one side, signaling that the owl is more than likely in pain. The portal behind it vanishes into thin air.

That owl... looked like... It couldn't be...

"Longclaw?"

Sonic can only stare, his eyes bigger and wider than he even thought possible. How-what-Sonic couldn't even think straight! How could Longclaw be here if she was supposedly dead?

"S-stay away." The owl growls weakly at Knuckles. It sounds like she wants to say more but can't finish.

That voice. It was Longclaw's voice. He hasn't heard it in years, but he knows that voice.

Then, Longclaw looks at him.

"S-Sonic...?" She says his name uncertainly, as if she, too, can't believe he's still alive. "You're...okay?"

He can no longer contain himself. He starts running toward her. Despite his speed, she collapses and falls asleep on the ground before he can reach her.

Alive. She's still alive, but how? How did she make it? Does she have more rings? Or did someone send her by mistake? It does seem more like an accident. Her wings are crushed and twisted into painfully unnatural postures, and her feathers are ruffled.

As some Green Hill's residents (including Tom and Maddie) headed towards them, Sonic said the only thing he could think of at the moment.

"We have to help her…"
