Fenton Works, Amity Park, Illinois

"Jazz dear, you've got to check out our newest discovery! Meet you in the lab!"

Jazz Fenton groaned. She loved her parents deeply, but why did they have to interrupt her at the worst moments? Couldn't they see she was studying her beloved psychology books? How the superego controls the id, and all that good stuff? She was going into Cornell this summer, she needed to be prepared!

Getting up from her chair, she headed down to the lab. Jazz may have had the most logical mind in the family, but that didn't seem to account for much in the Fenton household. All she wanted was to be a psychiatrist, helping people get care and treatment for their worst problems. This may have been fine and noble in most families, but it wasn't exactly a normal profession when your parents are ghost hunters.

And then there was her younger brother Danny. Even since she had discovered his secret, she was incredibly proud of his heroism and selflessness, doing everything she could to cover for him while he went about saving the day. As amazing as that was, Jazz couldn't help but feel a little envious of his powers - what must it feel like to fly, to turn invisible, to shoot beams from your hands? It was a dream millions of people must have had, and he actually got to live it.

Standing in front of a work table, Jazz looked at her parents' newest discovery - an old wooden mask? They interrupted her studies for this?!?

"This is your big discovery?"

"Precisely, Jazz baby!", her dad boomed with excitement. "We found this under a tree in Hartman Park, and its power readings were off the scales! We've got to study this artifact, capture the ghosts who made it, find out what it can do!"

"But first, sweetie," her mom replied in a softer tone. "We need to go out and pick up some testing supplies - we lost a bunch when trying to wrangle that ghost pig. Can you keep the lab safe for a little bit?"

It wasn't what she planned to do, but Jazz unfortunately had no other choice, with Danny hanging out at Tucker's house again. "Sure, Mom. I'll keep an eye on it."

"Thanks honey, we'll be back soon."

As the upstairs door slammed shut, Jazz looked over her parents' find, this wooden mask supposedly filled with "power". It certainly didn't look anything special, appearing to be made of very weathered wood with tiny flecks of green marking its beat up surface. If anything, this mask was probably just a buried piece from historical settlements that once stood on town lands.

She turned it over, trying to see if it had any identifiable marks of where it came from - nothing. Deciding to peer through its eye holes, a loud THWIP sound could suddenly be heard - instinctively, Jazz jerked her hands back.

What the heck was that?

Gazing closer, she saw it - a bright green flash of light, dancing across what should have been ordinary wood. Was she seeing things, perhaps the glow of a machine in the lab? It was impossible for Jazz to believe that this mask was glowing - but the more Jazz stared at it, the more her normally logical mind started to change, new urges and voices within telling her to put it on.

And so, Jazz brought her hands back up, quivering in anticipation - shuddering as the mask latched on to her face.

No no no, this wasn't good. She could feel rubbery snakes running through her hair, trying to clamp down on her skull. Jazz tried to get a grip and tug - but every tug she made, the mask tugged back even harder. In a sudden war with a ferocious beast, Jazz couldn't help but let go, the living wood quickly swallowing her head whole. Her only option was to scream.

"Danny, anybody!!! HELP ME!!!!!"

Of course, they were well out of earshot. Jazz moaned in a mood of both pain and ecstasy, her body and mind being warped by the monster over her head. One final bloodcurdling scream later, and she was sent off into a roaring twister, throwing debris all over and leaving thick dents in the reinforced concrete walls as it spun with no sense of direction.

When it finally stopped, the pain and fear was gone - in fact, Jazz felt amazing, incredible, better than she had ever felt in her life. Striding over to a mirror, she gawked in admiration at the new woman that looked back.

The new woman had grown about three inches taller, and her outfit had shifted to match this. Shiny black high heels fit perfectly around the contours of her feet, and gold bracelets with sapphires rested around her elbows. A little black cocktail dress ran from her shoulders to her knees, ideally cut for the hourglass figure she now possessed.

Her skin was perfectly tanned, as if she had just come back from a day at the beach. Her already bright orange hair now ran down to her waist, and shone out like she was the model on a Clairol box.

Despite these new features, the new Jazz was most enamored by the beautiful face on her head. This face was bright green in color, with thick forehead wrinkles and deep cut cheekbones that looked uncannily like it was made from strange rubber. Her eyes shone a deep aquamarine blue, with plump eyelashes and just a hint of blue eyeshadow on her lashes. As she smiled, her sky blue lips opened to reveal perfectly polished white teeth that were about the size of baseball cards. It all looked ridiculous from an outside view - and yet, she felt absolutely perfect.

The new Jazz chuckled. She certainly wasn't the outcast of the family anymore, feeling more like a queen with every passing second. New energy coursing through her veins, there was a good chance she was even more powerful than Danny - but she had to test these new abilities out first. All she knew now was that she had a town to explore.

"Amity Park, here I come!!!"
