Chapter Twelve

..

..Gravity Falls-verse

..

The room emptied, a familiar feeling for the digidestined. They knew to prepare, but what they weren't expecting was to end up in a dark laboratory, without any exit.

Daisuke and Ruki landed first, quickly rolling out of the way, Daisuke helped Ruki up. Vmon rolled out next. The three tried to look around in the dark as the others appeared one by one.

Ruki walked forward slowly until she felt a cold metal surface, 'is that a wall?' She thought as she remember her phone light. But as her hand reached her pocket a voice boomed "Intruder alert!" and she quietly squeaked out of fear but quickly regained herself as she backed up into Daisuke accidentally who pushed beside her.

"Purge system!" It turned on an alarm and dark red lights.

The Doctor jumped up and Daisuke shoved Ruki behind him as the Doctor protested, "whoa no, no, no. Hold on. Override. Security protocol ten. Six six. Eleven, twelve, fourteen, four, five, six, seven, eight. Ugh come on what is it? Uh Zero one, zero two-" the alarm stopped suddenly.

"Access allowed. State Re-re-reason for re-re-request." The computerized voice boomed.

"What? How did that work?" Ruki asked the Doctor intrigued by the tactic.

"Everything has an override or secret protocol, it's usually just a number." The Doctor laughed a little.

The computer fixed that, "purge will re-re-re-initiate on request completion." His face back to serious.

"But we just got here, we're not intruders! We were sent here!" Daisuke yelled standing in front of Ruki who was now pushing to get back beside him.

Takuma and Agumon stepped up beside them too, "we're friendlies we promise!" Mabel's eyes went glossy even in the middle of the stressful situation she said, "oh my god, you're so CUTE!" Agumon took a moment to realize she was talking to him, he could only nod nervously when he did notice.

"S-s-s-state request."

"Oh for crying out- we don't even know where here is how can we be intruders, we're captives if anything, we just were sent here. Can't you think at all for yourself? What kind of A.I. are you? We're supposed to be here I think." The Doctor scolded the computer.

"You think? That's not very convincing." River whispered.

"I mean I'm pretty sure."

"That a big gamble." She replied. The room when silent.

"..." It stayed quiet.

"Sc-scanning..." A!strange sort of infrared light scanned the room, invisible to the human eye. The Doctor looked over to Daisuke and back to the camera in the corner as they waited for something to happen.

"..." As the Doctor started to speak, suddenly, next to the wall, a light emitted and a humanoid figure formed. 'It's a hologram.' Daisuke thought, 'this is crazy...' the technology was amazing to all of them mostly. Except the Doctor and River of course.

"Whoa." Dipper and Mabel said in amazement.

But the Doctor watched carefully as the hologram took on a very curious look. It walked over to the Doctor, Daisuke, and Ruki.

It looked over to Ruki, she felt nervous but refused to show it, "What are you-" Daisuke started to move between them but Ruki shook her head while the Doctor put a hand up to stop him from moving.

The hologram leaned down close to Ruki looking closely in her eyes. Suddenly the hologram's eyes emitted a retina scanner.

While that was all happening they didn't notice the tiny arm come down from the ceiling. "OW!" It instantly retracted as she swung around and swatted at it.

"Hey!" Daisuke pushed past the Doctor.

"Now you can't just-" The Doctor started at the hologram, before he felt the same pain suddenly at the back of his neck. Again it was gone when he reached for it.

"Alright now, that's enough, where are your manners!" He turned and said firmly, a retinal scan was all he was met with.

Daisuke opened his mouth to speak but the hologram disappeared.

"What the f-" Kaito almost finished before the computer interrupted.

"Confirmed. 74% de-de-descendant." The hologram reappeared.

"I apologize, for the co-co-confu-fu-fusion. My operational system is co-co-corrupted. Verified operator on-site, ne-network acti-ti-tivating, re-re-restoring system components... Connnnnnection esta-ta-tablished."

As the words came out, everyone's phones and devices suddenly started dinging, ringing, and whistling.

"What is this?" Kaito asked. "I'm getting messages from Ryo and Aoi?"

Miu pulled out her phone, "me too, this is weird, I thought we were in a different universe."

"I've got Minaru's messages coming in too, she's right. What the hell is going on?" Takuma said.

Catherine and Michael continued their silence but their eyes met when they both realized they had communications again.

Maiko was more impressed with the hologram, he phone stayed silent as always.

"This shouldn't be possible." The Doctor said looking around at everyone getting messages around him, "no one has the technology to automatically connect different race's communication equipment across the multiverse... do they?" He looked down to the computer screen, "...but, that would require an enormous amount of power...phenomenally enormously huge amounts of power..." his brow furrowed as he looked around again growing quiet in thought.

"What's wrong Ruki?" Daisuke asked, he could see she was fight to hold back tears.

"They just keep coming in, my mom, my friends, my phone froze now. What is this? How is this-" she was interrupted.

"Operator acknowledged. The network gives ac-ac-access to communications from every mul-mul-multiverse."

It paused after answering but before anyone could ask anything else, it spoke again, "network s-s-stable, re-re-restoring operating system from network back-ack-ackup. Downloading."

The hologram disappeared.

"Why did it only answer you?" The Doctor asked, "and why did it scan both of us, but not them?"

"I don't understand, descendant, operator? Is it me? What did I do?" She asked, looking at the Doctor.

"Well, you do also have t-," the lights shut down, everything went silent, "..." the Doctor stopped very perplexed.

"Shit, I broke it." Daisuke joked trying to bring the mood back down. A few of them laughed, but the mood stayed on edge until suddenly the lights turned on their normal color, the ventilation kicked on, and the hologram reappeared. This time looking slightly different, more defined maybe.

"I'm sorry for that. My data was corrupted recently. And while normally these facilities connect periodically to the network and backup, I couldn't do when corrupted without an operator on-site. Thank you for your patience!" The hologram sounded much better now.

"Guys I've got messages from Gennai, listen," Hikari said looking at her tablet email.

DigiDestined

I hope this reaches some of you. We are trapped, we think the Digital World has broken apart from your real world and attached to another. We found some answers and a way to fix it maybe! And to stop Bugendaimon!

We sent out a signal, follow it and contact us when you get there!

Gennai

Hikari read it word for word, "that means our Digital World is still out there somewhere, we have to find them." She finished.

"Go ahead and reply while we can, let him know who's here and that we're ok and that we followed the signal, maybe the others have too." Daisuke told Hikari who nodded.

The Doctor looked at the hologram, "oi, why did you only scan me and her?" He questioned.

The hologram turned and looked at the Doctor, it paused but didn't answer, instead turned and looked back at Ruki, "possible ally nearby, would you like to add to identity friend/foe system?" Ruki's eyes widened confused, she looked around the hologram and made a face at the Doctor who just shrugged.

Looking back at the patient hologram. She finally just shoved out, "I guess y-yeah... yes do that computer." She looked back at Daisuke and the others, "them too." She pointed.

"Acknowledged, processing. Digital fragmentation signature saved. Added to IFF system."

It then looked at the Doctor, "internal scans show you both have dual cardiac circulatory systems." It answered

"Whoa, no, wait a minute, does that mean-?" Takeru's question trailed off.

"Yes, well, Time Lords have two hearts anyways, a second circulatory system with it." The Doctor said. River caught Dipper and Mabel up to speed. Who were instantly glassy eyed with affection for the mystery know as the Doctor and his machine.

All other eyes turned to Ruki. Whose eyes were shock, "I...what?!"

"My scan showed the same thing, I just wasn't sure-" the Doctor started.

"So you didn't tell me?!"

"And you kept this to yourself?!" River and Ruki said simultaneously.

"I wasn't sure until now, I haven't had time to confirm." He said looking away.

Joe spoke "but how are you not a medical marvel, if that's true, your doctor should've seen it."

"My parents did a home birth and always believed in alternative medicine I've never had X-rays or anything like that before... I never broke anything really either nor have I gotten sick much... I never thought about it..." Ruki said, "but that's not possible is it? How? What am I?" She asked looking at the Doctor hoping for an answer.

However instead the hologram spoke, "as a 74% descendant of the Atlanteans, who this facility and network was built for, you are a verified operator."

It changed subject but continued. "There is one facility already online, you can intera- incoming facility communication." It changed tone instantly.

"Uh?" Ruki said looking at the others who just shrugged, the Doctor made a motion like picking up a phone, "uh, answer?" She said without much confidence in the request.

"Who's this?" Ruki knew the voice and whipped around looking at the screen in shock.

"Ryo?!"

"Ruki!!"

Taichi's gut hurt, 'why would he lead him and his daughter into danger?' He asked himself, he looked over at Yamato and grimaced. They were both thinking the same, as David and Rose walked back in. They had escorted the man to a cab.

"So any sign of your friend or anything interesting for that matter?" David asked.

Ken typed away and looked over at David while Miyako answered for him, "no, there's been no sign of-" All of the digidestined's digivices lit up, suddenly engulfing Koushiro's office before exiting to the west through the wall.

"Uh- so that hasn't happened before?" Rose questioned looking in the direction the light shot off in.

They all looked confused, Miyako replied, "wha, no what was-" Blip, she stopped. Blip. She heard it again and looked at her digivice. "Look!" She said.

"It's a map marker!" Iori said excitedly. Blip.

"Are you sure?" Mimi asked looking at hers confused.

"He's right," Ken said, "it has to be. We've seen this before, well, when I was..." He trailed off for just a moment, "but look." He showed them how no matter the direction of the digivice the marker pointed in the same direction. "I mean, what else do we have to go on?" He followed up with.

"He's right." Sora finally spoke, "nothing else can be done here. Koushiro isn't here and doesn't seem to be coming back. Let's leave a note and go." She added.

David and Rose smiled as they all reached the conclusion they had when the light shot off, "so are we ready to follow the light finally?" David asked.

They all remembered they weren't alone, they were back home but the other weren't, David and Rose weren't. And there was still work to be done, "yea, let's get going." Sora finished up her note and was the last out the door.

Back at ground level they set off in the direction of the blip.

..

..??

..

A young man laid in the corner of a dark cell. He started coughing, "owwie," he grabbed his head and continued coughing. He could feel wounds all over, some scabbed, some wet still. "Ugh," every muscle in his body hurt as he sat up.

"Damnit that hurts." He forced his leg to move and grabbing a bar on the wall he pulled himself up, 'either it's dislocated or broken.' He thought as he grimaced from the pain.

He looked around, the room was fairly empty, dark, and barren. He limped to the door, the handle was locked. "Shit" he cursed.

He looked down at his injuries, he felt his knee, he gritted and ground his teeth while he checked it. 'It's dislocated.' He looked around the room, he winced at the pain. Not many options, he limped over and leaned against the flattest wall, he could see the bend.

He took a deep breath and quickly, crack-pop, "aaaargh!" The boy yelled in pain, biting his lip only changed the tone the pain was almost too much, he thought he might pass out again.

He sat back in his dark quiet corner, the pain was all he could think of. He couldn't get out, he was hungry. 'Please come for me.' He thought as he fought back tears and raised his head high and took a deep breath.

..

The digidestined, David and Rose jogged past a storefront following the blip. They all went by but Miyako stopped and read the screen, "hey wait guys, look at this."

Everyone stopped and came back. It was a newscast.

They couldn't hear anything but the screen scrolled at the bottom a message. 'Mandatory evacuation of many major cities continues across the globe as disappearances rise into the hundreds of thousands. Authorities warn to stay indoors in remote unpopulated areas. WARNING Do not touch, engage with, or stimulate any "anomalies" or rifts as they've been called. Scientist still have not identified where they lead nor what causes them. Do not approach! High concentrations of population seem to attract more rifts.'

"No...it can't be..." Mimi was struck with shock.

"That said hundreds of thousands..." Sora said tears well up but she took a deep breath as David spoke.

"I know you're all worried but they'll all be doomed if we don't keep going, you can mourn those lost when we've saved the rest... Welcome to my life." David said solemnly looking at the destined then to Rose, both knowing the real Doctor lost many many friends and companions too.

They all nodded and started in the direction of the blip again, with a new drive and heavier hearts.

"We're getting close the marker isn't pegged out." Yamato said looking at his digivice.

"You're right, but this is the docks, there's nothing here but warehouses." Ken said, as they all slowed their pace.

They saw one building alone in the dark distance. The steam from manholes jaded their view as they made their way to the building.

The blip got closer and closer, until they all stood in a line in front of the building.

Blip, Yamato looked down at his digivice and back up at the building. "You're freaking kidding me right?" He looked at Taichi.

Customs Import Holding Facility

"Great, the highest security building here probably." Taichi grumbled. "I'll start looking for a window." He sighed.

David grinned, "I think I've got something for that." He pulled something from his coat pocket and the others could hear a strange noise before they could hear the lock click.

"What was that?" Ken questioned amazed.

"A screwdriver." The Doctor said simply as he opened the front door, he looked back, "now let's move."

It was dark inside in the closed customs warehouse, it was easy to spot the office on the otherside of the building. Taichi spotted a computer inside the glass windows of the office, "there! I bet that's it!"

They quietly made their way across the room until they stood at the computer, blip, it was right of top of them.

Ken rounded the corner of the desk to see the gate program loaded on the computer already. "This is it, we were right." The others rounded the desk and stood beside him.

"Hey!" A voice yelled, "stop! You're all trespassing!" A light flashed on them. "I need backup at the customs warehouse!" He said into a radio as he pulled a gun out, "freeze!" He said to them.

Ken ignored him and activated the gate, the light shined bright, the guard fired, they all disappeared. The light died down and the door swung open.

Three men with rifles entered as the guard took his facemask off and wore a face of pure shock and confusion.

"Well what are we here for?!" His backup questioned...

..

They all felt this familiar feeling, being digitized. David did not like the feeling. He had memories of this, being digitized, they were never good.

..

..??

..

"Sire! The missing agents appeared again. They're in X14's Digital World we think, their signal isn't stable yet." The nasty voice spoke as it hurriedly entered the room.

The hooded figure continued looking away out the window, "then go find them." He told the monster, amazed he had to tell him to do it he scoffed as the digimon left nodding, "yes sire." Bugendaimon left the room, cowering the entire time.

Alone again, the hooded figure scoffed, "pathet-" blip he stoped and waited.

Blip "Hmm?"

The hooded figure moved his hand under his cloak to a pocket and pulled out something, he flipped it over. Blip.

"What's this then?" He stared at the black digivice, a blip on the screen.

...

To be continued...
