Waking up early the next morning, I found Neo had, in her sleep, curled into my side. My face heats up for a moment before I quickly, but carefully, get up. I make my way over to the bathrooms to shower and finish my morning duties. On my way over, my eyes are drawn to a boy in buckskins with black eyes that seem to crackle with blue electricity and a girl with hair and eyes of an almost metallic gold color. Both seemed to have had a poor night's sleep, though the girl seemed to have had it the worst as she was glaring all around her and holding her head in her hands.
Entering the bathroom, I find only a few other early risers in the changing rooms. Stepping into a shower room, I unequip my pajamas and store them back in my inventory. Turning the shower on, I sigh in relief as the hot water pours over me, soothing the tensions that have developed since I got off the ship yesterday. Snapping out of the stupor the hot water had sent me into, I quickly finished washing up, shut off the shower, and equipped my combat gear. Stepping out into the ballroom after I finished in the bathroom, I headed back over to my sisters and Neo, my Shadow Dragon Leather Robe drawing the attention of some with the way it almost seemed to give off a shadowy smoke.
While I was making my way over, I noticed the boy and girl I had noticed earlier chatting with each other as they made their way to the ballroom's exit.
"So you really hiked across half of Sanus in 4 months?" The golden-haired girl said with a tone of amazement.
"Yes, I got used to the forest's quiet, and even after I registered for classes here, I spent more of my time in the surrounding forests than in the city. I'm afraid the overabundance of company impeded my rest last night," the black haired boy responded. His accent was strange, and I'm not sure if it matched any from any of the four kingdoms.
"Definitely wasn't the fact that the floor is not a comfortable place to sleep or anything," came the deadpan response from the girl, who seemed to be from Mistral.
"Oh, so you agree, Miss..." the boy says, obviously missing the sarcasm before trailing off as it seems he doesn't yet know the girl's name.
"Aurelia, no miss, please, just Aurelia," the now named Aurelia introduces herself.
"And you may call me Yahto, Aurelia," the boy says, bowing his head in greeting.
I grow too far away to hear the rest of their conversation as I reach my group, who had all somehow managed to wake up, get dressed, and wander over to the lockers in the time it took me to do the same as well as take a shower.
Oh, who knows?" I heard Yang say as I walked up to them. "So, you seem awfully chipper this morning!"
"Yep! No more awkward small talk or "getting-to-know-you" type stuff!" My younger sister exclaims before beginning to stroke Crescent Rose. "Today, I get to let my sweetheart do the talking."
"You know, I'm pretty sure objectophilia is classified as a psychological disorder," I called out, earning rolled eyes from Neo, a glare from Yang, and a confused expression from Ruby.
"Well, remember, Ruby, and you two as well." Yang says to Ruby, then turns to Neo and me with an accusatory look on her face before it softens as she turns back to our younger sister. "You're not the only ones going through initiation. If you wanna grow up and be a well-adjusted adult," she turns and looks pointedly at me as she says this. "You're gonna have to meet new people and learn to work together."
"Ugh! You sound like Dad!" She shoves Crescent Rose into her locker at this point before turning to Yang and responding vehemently. "Okay, first of all: What does meeting new people have to do with fighting? And secondly: I don't need people to grow up! I drink milk!"
"Pfft!" I can barely contain my laughter at what my younger sister clearly thinks is a serious statement. "I don't know how much that helps your case, Rubes."
"I don't know that you're one to talk, Ciar," Yang said before turning back to Ruby and asking. "And what about when we form teams?"
"I'm teaming up with Neo," I state immediately, while Neo nods energetically next to me. "You two have fun meeting new people, though."
Ruby, on the other hand, suddenly became very nervous. "Um, I don't know, I..." She stammered. "I'll just be on your team or something..."
As my sisters seemed to have gotten sidetracked, I gestured to Neo, and we walked towards the ballroom exit, where some of the students had already started to head. As we stood chatting together in sign language, we heard Professor Goodwitch's voice coming over some speakers.
"Would all first-year students please report to Beacon Cliff for Initiation?" She announced. "Again, all first-year students report to Beacon Cliff immediately."
Following the crowd of students, we reach the cliff and find a row of silver tiles stretched out along it. Following the example of the students that had been in front of us, we each stood on a tile and prepared ourselves for the initiation to begin. Finally, as the last of the students trickled out of the building, my sisters showed up with Jaune, who looked like he had had a rough go of it this morning.
As the last students stepped onto the silver tiles, Professor Ozpin started to speak. "For years, you have trained to become warriors, and today, your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest."
Goodwitch began to speak as Ozpin paused. "Now, I'm sure many of you have heard rumors about the assignment of 'teams.' Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion. Each of you will be given teammates… today.
Professor Ozpin picked up from there, though I heard several shocked interjections from Ruby throughout his speech.
"These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon. So it is in your best interest to be paired with someone with whom you can work well. That being said, the first person you make eye contact with after landing will be your partner for the next four years."
At this revelation, quite a few gasps were heard. Looking over at Neo, I raised my eyebrow in a silent question, to which she smirked in response before messaging over.
Neo:{If only one of us could teleport and make sure that we could be paired up.}
Ciar(Host):{Yeah if they actually did it randomly, we might be in trouble, but I'll leave it up to you. I want to keep my shadow walking as an ace in the hole.}
She nodded in reply, and we turned back to Ozpin as he continued to speak.
"After you've partnered up, make your way to the northern end of the forest. You will meet opposition along the way. Do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path... or you will die. You will be monitored and graded through the duration of your initiation, but our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple at the end of the path, containing several relics. Each pair must choose one and return to the top of the cliff. We will regard that item, as well as your standing, and grade you appropriately. Are there any questions?" He paused for a bit at this, and I heard the faint signs of someone speaking up for a moment before Ozpin continued. "Good! Now, take your positions."
I crouched in readiness and felt the tile spring up under my feet, launching me into the air. As I reached the top of my arc of flight, I heard the sound of shattering glass behind me and felt a weight press against my back as Neo teleported behind me. I grinned as I felt the rush of wind whip past my face as we started to descend towards the Emerald Forest. Flicking my right blade into my hand, I hurl it toward the tallest tree in our flight path. Feeling my blade sink into the wood through the grapple line, I start to reel us towards the tree.
"Here we go!" I call to Neo as I flick out my other blade, pumping aura into the Grav Dust Crystal, causing us to plummet towards the ground before being yanked into a swing as the Grapple line pulls taught. As we reach the bottom of our swing, I yank my blade out of the trunk, collapsing it into it's smaller form so it whips out easily, and land roughly on the forest floor. Neo hops off my back before skipping around me and giving me that cute, mischievous smile of hers as she makes eye contact with me before giving a silent giggle as she flips back onto my back before pointing forward with her umbrella.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm going," I say with a chuckle before setting off at a run towards the nearest tree, quickly scaling it and starting to move through the branches towards our goal.
As I am hurrying through the trees, a troupe of Alouattals, a medium-sized monkey-shaped grimm reminiscent of a howler monkey, starts chasing us, letting loose their deep guttural howls.
Ciar(Host):{Keep running and hope we can find a better place to fight them than in their home turf or take them out now?}
The only response I received was a jab to the front from Hush.
Ciar(Host):{Yes ma'am, forward it is.}
Speeding up slightly to widen the gap between us and the troupe of monkey Grimm, I see a clearing ahead. Leaping into the air as I reach it, I see the golden girl and the boy wearing buckskin crash into the ground ahead of us.
"Look out below!" I call out in warning to the two groaning teens, landing nearly on top of them but managing to control my momentum before actually crashing into them. "We've got Alouattals incoming; a troupe of about 25 is on our tails." I cry out as I come to a stop.
They both shake themselves in readiness as they spring to their feet, disentangling themselves in the process. The boy in buckskin pulls two tomahawks off his belt, spinning them in his hands as they shift into a pair of submachine guns. The golden girl drew a gladius and shield that seemed to fall apart into golden flower petals as she drew them out, swirling around her in a dazzling golden cloud.
"If you guys want to focus on long range, me and Neo will make sure that they don't get to close." I call out to the two, who I think were called Yahto and Aurelia.
"Can do," Aurelia said in response, the golden petals spinning faster yet.
"Understood," Yahto said succinctly with a nod.
I quickly flicked out both of my blades, readying myself for the fight ahead. A grin spread across my face as I felt the adrenaline start to pump through me in anticipation of the fight.
"Don't worry if you let a few of them through," I say with a slight chuckle, the battle rush hitting me pretty hard as I hear the guttural howls of the grimm growing nearer. "I could use a good fight."
Neo smacked me over the head with Hush, snapping me out of my battle rush and back to the present.
"Right, sorry," I mutter out just loud enough for them all to hear. "Let's just kill these things."
As I said this, the first of the troupe burst into the clearing. Leaping out of the trees with their guttural howls echoing throughout the forest. Their bone-like masks contrast with the tar-like blackness of their bodies. Spikes came out of their backs and extended along their tails, with bone plates sporadically appearing across their bodies, the largest being on their throats. I felt the battle rush start to come over me again before I clamped down on it and centered myself in the here and now.
"Ok, so that's a little more than 25," I stated as 40 of the Grimm monkeys poured into the clearing.
"You think?" Aurelia quipped as she flicked her fingers towards the Grimm.
A hail of dust rounds from Yahto's guns descended on the approaching Grimm, accompanied by a cloud of golden petals. They quickly mowed down half of the troupe, and as their comrades turned to black smoke, a handful of the remaining beasts managed to burst through the deluge of projectiles and scamper towards us. Their barbed tails whipped and stretched around them as they barreled towards us.
I leapt into their midst, my blades hacking and slashing through their bodies. Black smoke and blood erupted from their bodies as my blades danced between them. As I fought, I suddenly felt a boot push off of my shoulder as Neo leapt over my head towards another group of Grimm that had pushed through our companions long-range attacks. What felt both like seconds and hours passed until our battle ceased, the last of the Grimm fading into black smoke. Breathing deeply to rid myself of the last vestiges of my battle rush, I turned to the other two that had helped us.
"Sorry about leading them right to you," I say, inclining my head slightly. "I'm Ciar, and this is Neo. What are your names? And if you don't mind me asking, how did you two end up crashing into each other?"
"I'm Aurelia," the golden-haired girl replied, proving my previous thoughts correct.
"And I am Yahto," said the boy in the buckskin suit. "And as for how we ended up crashing into each other, my Semblance is the ability to turn into a lightning bolt, and so I planned on using that to land..."
"But he didn't realize gold was conductive," Aurelia picked up when he trailed off. "So instead of heading towards the ground, he got stuck in the petals I was using to slow my fall."
"Huh," I responded, slightly taken aback at their answer, before grinning as a statement worthy of my older sister popped into my head. "Guess that was a shock."
I received two deadpan looks from Aurelia and Yahto, while Neo just rolled her eyes at my pun.

AN: So Initiation is finally upon us; I hope no one didn't see the partner pairings ending up like this. Sorry that it's been a while. I sprained my shoulder when I wrecked my bike and couldn't really write with my arm in a sling. To those of you wondering what the heck Alouattals are, they're an original Grimm of mine that I based on Howler Monkeys. To those of you who were wondering previously, Tai will not be revealing any of Ciar's secrets to Ozpin. In this story at least, Tai will, while not being antagonistic, not entirely trust the headmaster of Beacon. So Oz will have no knowledge of the gamer system and will only come to know Ciar's semblance as Shadow Travel. Please review if you have any questions or constructive criticism. Thank you all for reading, Happy Labor Day, and see you next chapter!
