Dream

"I can't believe you work with them!"

"Newt, I didn't have a choice!"

"Everyone has a choice, Elizabeth!"

Elizabeth...Her full name. He hadn't called her that in years. She had tears spilling out of her eyes.

"You don't get it! They threatened to hurt you!"

"Well I would have taken it! You can't just help the enemy! they murdered your parents!"

"That's why I did it! Because I know what they are capable of! I couldn't let them kill you, Newt! You're my best friend!"

Teresa walked in. "Break it up you two! A5, time to go."

"Bye.." She whispered.

"Goodbye, Liz."

That was the first time she had ever seen Newt angry at her...When he had figured out what she did in her 'free time'

1 month later

The greenie had came a few days after the incident, and it was hard, almost like they were replacing Ben. They managed, though, and the new kid, Chuck, began to fit it. The kid looked young, 12 or 13. They now awaited the arrival of the new greenie, coming in 2 days.

Her head was burried in her pillow when she woke, and the pillow was damp. She shifted her head so she could breath better, than turned over, grunting slightly. Her shoulder had healed well, but still pained her if she moved in the right way, or used it too much. She brought her hand to her face, wiping the tears away, but she couldn't stop the light flow of tears. She sniffled.

Newt lay asleep in a cot a couple feet away from her bed.

She had figured out he'd been sleeping in Minho's floor, and not in a second bed. He'd refused to let her sleep in the floor, but she didn't want him in the floor. He also didn't want to sleep outside in a hammock, not wanting to leave her alone with the terrors in her mind. Alby settled it by taking a cot from the medhut and putting it in her room.

Newt turned over, mumbled something unintelligible, then sat up.

"Liz?" His voice was rough, groggy with sleep. He rubbed his hand over his eyes, then got up, coming over to the bed. He kneeled down beside it, his head level with hers.

"Hey, shh, it's ok, I'm here."

He slowly moved his hand, placing it on top of hers.

"Same one?" He frowned.

She nodded.

"Liz, I'm so sorry. I just wasn't thinking straight, I was so immature then. I'm so sorry..."

Here he was, appologizing for something he didn't remember. He had changed since then, and she knew that.

"You had every right to be mad, Newt.." She whispered.

"It wasn't right, Liz. What I did wasn't right."

"You don't even remember that happening, so why does it matter?"

"Because it's hurting you. Yes, it happened before the maze, but that makes no difference. I hurt you, Liz, and that's not right."

"You're helping now." She gave him a small smile.

"Yea, now I am."

She sighed, and sat up. He got up from the floor and sat beside her.

"You're worried I'll do it again, aren't you? You're scared I'll hurt you."

"What? N..no...Yes...Not really, its not how you think." She paused for a moment. "I just don't wanna loose you again." She looked at the floor.

He was silent and still for a moment, then she saw his hand move up. It still freaked her out whenever she saw hands coming towards her, but he was always careful about how slow he did it.

His fingertips touched her chin, then urged her to look up.

She looked into his eyes.

"You won't." His voice was soft, but his face was serious. "I promise."

"You can't know that though...What if something happens? I mean, the thing with Ben...What if it's not the last time? Then all of the sudden you're gone."

"I will do everything, and I mean everything, in my power to be sure I stay. I'm not gonna just leave you here alone." He gave her a light smile.

"Thanks, Newt." She whispered.

He dropped his hand, seeming pretty sure she wouldn't look away again.

They sat in silence for a good while, then Newt glanced at the clock in the room.

"I've gotta go or I'm gonna be late."

"Ok.." She sighed.

He leaned forward slightly, his head tilted down, and did something that shocked her. He pressed his lips soflty against her forhead for only a second, then got up and left.

She sat there, wide eyes and red cheeked, trying to process what had happened. Did he like her? I mean, he must if he had done that, right? Did she like him? He had always been her best friend, even though he didn't remember most of it, but did she like him more than just a friend?

Eventually, she got up, realizing she was already 30 minutes late. Uh oh...

She ran across the glade, rushing into the kitchen. "Oh my gosh, Fry, I'm so sorry!" She started apologizing as soon as she saw him. "I'm so sorry! I lost track of time!"

He shook his head. "What am I gonna do with you? Already got you a clock!" He gave her a smile, showing he wasn't mad. "S'alright Liz. Breakfast is over, and I gotta go get some meat from Winston, so can ya handle cleanup?"

"Yea, I'll get right on it."

He walked out and she got to work, washing dishes and putting up ingredients.

She was organizing the spices when Fry got back, her mind still on what had happened this morning.

"Hey Fry!" She grinned. "Got it all done."

"Nice, thanks." He paused. "Why's your face all red?"

"Oh, em...I must have gotten some sun yesterday."

"Really? It wasn't that red this morning."

"Wierd.." She mumbled. "Must have been the lighting. Trying to lie about it made her cheeks brighter.

"Hm..." Frypan sighed. "Ok, well...I was wondering if you could make stew for tonight? You'd have to start now, but that stew was awesome."

"Yea, sure thing."

"Alright, well, I'll leave you to it, I'll be back to make lunch."

She got to work, prepping the veggies. She searched the kitchen, putting random stuff that she thought would be good into the pot. After she was satisfied, she poured in the broth, then got it onto the stove.

As time went on, the aroma of the stew swirled around the kitchen. She slowly added more things, mainly spices, and she waited. So. Much. Waiting.

Lunch came and went, she actually ate, as she hadn't eaten any breakfast.

Her face had turned bright red again as Newt came up for his sandwich. He just smiled at her and went to sit with Alby.

She went back to the stew after she ate, taking the lid off for a moment. The chicken wasn't done, so she was unable to taste it. She put the lid back on, and sat down in the floor to wait some more.

Once dinner time came around, the boys flooded in. Word had gotten out that there was stew for dinner, and everyone was eager. Fry served them, making her go and relax. She took her food to her room, sitting on the bed as she ate.

She didn't barely tasted the food, eating quickly. Sitting the bowl on the floor by thr bed, she laid down, staring at the ceiling.

After a half hour, the door cracked open. She closed her eyes, and forced her breaths to be slow and even. It seemed Newt was trying his best to be quiet, seeing the seemingly asleep Liz on the bed, but with his limp, he wasn't the quietest walker.

After a moment, she heard the creak of the cot, and soon his breaths were even, and his soft snore could be heard. She was asleep soon aswell, her dreams strange as usual, but not quite as terrorizing..Only worrying.

Liz's Dream

-2 weeks before Liz went in-

"Ms. Paige? Ma'am? May I speak with you for a moment?"

"Of course, Elizabeth. Have a seat"

She gestured to a chair infront of her desk.

"I want to go in."

Ava Paige looked at her, confused. "In?"

"The maze, Ma'am. A5"

It pained her to refer to him as that, as a test subject, not a human being, but Ava wouldn't allow it.

"He's getting bad again. It was my fault for not seeing it soon enough the first time, but I need to fix it. Besides, to you really want Teresa to help them get out? She's so cruel."

"Elizabeth...You're a scientist in training, I can't let you become one of them."

"Please, Ms. Paige. I want to. I want to make friends, and I can get them out safely. We can stick to the plan you thought of for Teresa, but with me. I'll go in, stay until the time is right. I'll get most of my memories back so I know what to do. I'll talk to the subjects, and tell them about the memories I've been getting back, and then I'll tell them how to get out. I lead them out, you take it from there, and we go into the second test. I'll stay with them, and we continue this process, even putting them back into the maze, until we find the cure."

The woman infront of her sighed, pondering the idea.

"Fine. But you cannot fail."

"I won't."

"You have to promise me you won't get attached to them too much."

"I promise."

"Alright. I'll tell Teresa."

"Okay." Her voice got small and weak at the mention of the girls name. The girl constantly torchered her. With words and physical pain. All because Elizabeth had been given a job that Teresa wanted badly. A job she didn't even want. Elizabeth just wanted to be a normal human. A child...But she never got that chance. Atleast Teresa had gotten to bunk with other kids, eat with other kids, and make friends.

The dream changed, a different point in time. Perhaps the day before she had been put into the maze.

"You remember the plan, Elizabeth?" Ava Paige stood infront of her. They had gone over it many, many times. Of course she remembered.

"Yes ma'am. I go in, I live life as a normal glader for a few months. When I get the one dream that tells me of the plan, which will probably be of us discusing it, I will not tell everyone yet, only my closest freind, which will be probably be A5, because of our previous friendship will cause us to be drawn to each other. Anyway, I'll tell him. He'll tell the leader, whoever it will be when It's time, then him and the leader will speak with the runners. We go into to the maze. All of us. We find the cliff, and find the spot where it teleports us. We fight the grievers, because they will be out that day, and some lives will probably be lost. We enter the code, W I C K E D, and the door will open. We go through the tunnel, and find a door. The team will be there, waiting for us. The door locks behind us, they take us in, and we begin phase 2."

"Good. Now that I'm sure you know it, go get some rest, big day tomorrow. Remember, you don't have to do this."

"I have to fix this, Ava, he's still getting worse."

"Alright then. Goodnight, sleep well."

-Authors note-

Hey! I am so sorry this took so long! I'm busy with school, and I have a lot of stuff to do and places to go in the evening. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed. I'll try to get you another chapter soon! Please give me ideas!

On the note of the request of Newt having a bully. I was going to work that in, but I wasn't sure how. I could get that into the next chapter, if you have some ideas on how:)
