Chapter 53: Fused Conclusions
The sun shined brightly off the sea of the city of the former Fusion Dimension. Gone were the silver watchtowers, freeing up the sky- and seascape which many citizens appreciated. Duel Academy had entered voluntarily administration as part of the War Tribunal that had been set up. Akaba Corporation logos could be spotted across the city as Leo Akaba's son dismantled what remained of his father's regime.
It cannot be said that the transition was peaceful or even bloodless. Leo Akaba still had many supporters, born from the decade he had in no uncertain terms owned the Dimension. At least these hardliner cells were taken out quickly and efficiently, with rumours of Xyzian teams taking out them with the same harshness that Duel Academy had taken out them in their home.
The week that Duel Academy had shut down, there had been many tearful reunions. Parents who had sent their children away because they were forced to by the oppressive dictatorship Leo had set up crying tears of joy. Of course, it cannot be said that the former students' reintegration into normal society was easy though. The trauma they'd gone through at the Academy had left many scars, both physical and mental, and as a result psychiatry practices found themselves constantly booked to the teeth. As a result, many former students had taken up hobbies in order to fill the time between their appointments, enough entering the arts in order to cause a renaissance in the city, new sculptures, statues and murals peppered all throughout the streets, all honouring the sacrifices made, or denouncing Leo Akaba's regime.
However, none had it harder than the former higher ups of the student chain of command. Former Commanders and Captains, Generals and Colonels, had faced harsh evaluations to deem whether they needed to be taken to the Tribunal or if they could be put back into society. One particular former Commander who had defected over the course of the war sat on the top of the building he had been granted an apartment in (granted with some conditions), moving some mulch over a garden bed. "And there!" Yuri declared, setting his spade on the ground, "That's some nice mulch, isn't it?" He asked the plants, picking up a watering can and sprinkling it over the plants. "You should be blooming soon. I can't wait." He smiled as the door to the roof slammed open, revealing one of the conditions of the apartment. His roommate, Celina strode up to him as he turned his gaze. "You're too loud, you know." Yuri commented,
"Yeah, yeah, and you're normal for talking to your plants." Celina sarcastically stated,
"I'll have you know it's a perfectly normal thing to do!" Yuri shouted, offended,
"Sure, sure," Celina rolled her eyes, "And before you asked, I did come with a purpose. Declan's asking for us. Something involving that Den City from what I can gather." Ah yes, Yuri was reminded, Den City. A city which hadn't appeared in any of the former dimensions with a seeming focus on Link Monsters, not too different to New Domino's Synchro, Heartland's Xyz and Paradise's new development, Pendulum.
"What do you think he wants?" Yuri asked, turning away from Celina to finish up in his garden bed,
"Connections to the Original Dimension, if I had to guess. And maybe about, y'know, him." While there were several hims in Yuri's life, but at least this one was quite clear.
"You suspect there may be another like me and you?"
"Not exactly. If there was, do you think Ren would have Corrupting Tail and we wouldn't met our counterparts?"
"Fair. What's your theory then?"
"Maybe it won't be a fragment. Maybe they themselves may be there."
"What, like reincarnation? I thought Zarc's soul was split between the five like me and Ray's you."
"It's just a theory," Celina shook her head, "And besides, you never know."
"I think it's more of a corporate warfare type thing. They've got their own mega corporation, don't they?"
"Something like that. You may be on to something though."
"Well, I'm finished. Going to take a shower then we can head to Paradise." Yuri stood up, grabbing his tools,
"There's also some news about the Tribunal." Celina revealed,
"What?"
"Expected sentence. For one man in particular." The smirk she wore told Yuri everything,
"Hmm?"
"'For crimes including, but not limited to genocide, attempted genocide, torture, indoctrination and so forth'," Celina started as if she was reciting a report, "'The defendant is expected to receive as many as ten consecutive life sentences, to be served in their entirety within solitary confinement.'"
"Still can't believe Declan pushed for all those crimes and such a harsh sentence."
"There's a lot of built up resentment from him. If anything, Leo's getting off lightly. Personally, I'd advocate for death."
"And personally I believe that'd be the more merciful option. He caused so much suffering, why not subject him to some of it?"
"True, true. Well, I say that's enough politics. Shall we head off?" Celina asked her roommate, who had just locked his tool shed,
"Yes. It's quite the drive, isn't it?" And the two Fusionites set off.
Hey all, thank you so much for reading. I am also so sorry about the massive delay in getting this chapter out. A variety of very time consuming tasks, including tests and study, as well as spending some time with family have occupied these past two weeks. Next chapter should be out at normal time, which I'll try my best to make.
I would also like to note that I do have a poll on my profile (on ), regarding Zuzu's deck choice. I've had it up for a while, but I'll be closing it after the next chapter. If you have the time, please vote, but if you'd rather me tally via comments, I'll write the question here: 'Should Zuzu use the Solfachord deck in Pendulum of Circuits?' For those unaware, Pendulum of Circuits will be the sequel to this fic, and I do want your opinion. So do please vote, whether that is going to my profile and voting or leaving a comment!
I'll probably be blasting through these last few chapters, only three to go, and I can't wait to finish this story! See you all next time - NightWingBOI
