Battle Resort (Day)
Down to his last Pokemon, Arven decided to pull out all the stops. With a smile, he got his Tera Orb out of his pocket. "Mabosstiff, time to Terastallize! No one can ever outshine you!" he proclaimed as he threw the device at his partner, engulfing Mabosstiff in a cluster of brightly shining crystals. After no more than a second, the crystals shattered, revealing the Boss Pokemon with a gem-like film covering its entire body, as well as a crown on its head in the shape of malicious thoughts.
"All out from the get-go. Just the way I like it." Dominic said with a grin. "Charizard, let's pay them back in kind!" The blonde pressed two fingers to the Key Stone in his Mega Glove, causing streaks of light to emerge from the gemstone. Charizard's body was engulfed in pink light, and its form was altering. In a burst of energy, Mega Charizard Y appeared.
'What in the hell?' Taylor thought to herself as she watched the battle. She'd heard about Terastallization from some passing comments her classmates made. Something about energy from Area Zero, wherever that was, being used to crystallize Pokemon. As for what Dominic's Charizard underwent, she had no idea.
"Play Rough!" Arven commanded. Mabosstiff ran forward, trying to tackle its opponent.
"Dodge, then use Dragon Claw!" Dominic called out. Mega Charizard Y jumped high into the air, completely evading Mabosstiff's attack. It then crashed back down, slamming its claws into the Dark-Type. "Follow up with Air Slash!"
"Crunch!" Mabostiff began to radiate with dark energy as it opened its mouth wide. Air Slash landed before it could do anything, though.
"Fire Blast!" Charizard roared loudly as flames gathered in its maw.
"Don't let them preempt you again! Play Rough!" Arven said. Mabosstiff sped straight into Charizard's body, covering both in a plume of white smoke for a few seconds before the Mega Evolved Pokemon fell to the ground.
"Charizard, can you still battle?" Dominic asked his partner, who responded with a proud roar. It would take more than that to keep it down.
"Let's end this once and for all, buddy! Use Crunch!" Mabosstiff's Tera Jewel glowed brightly as dark energy surged from its body. At speeds rivaling even Mega Charizard Y, Mabosstiff lunged forward and bit. Down. HARD. The resulting explosion sent Charizard into the ceiling of the Battle Resort, shaking the building right down to the foundation.
"How in the Underwhere did Mabosstiff do that!?" Dominic asked, astonished by the canine Pokemon's speed.
"You like it? We've been experimenting with how different Meal Powers affect Pokemon." Arven explained. "Turns out, you can actually improve their stats for a short time if you use Herba Mystica."
"Interesting." the blonde said to himself, fascinated by the new information. "But that won't let you win this. Charizard!" The Flame Pokemon was still airborne, using its wings to stay close to the ceiling. "You know what to do! Show them how Champions battle! Earthquake!"
"Quick, dodge!" Arven said, knowing what Charizard's Earthquake was capable of. But even with the warning, Mabosstiff couldn't escape. Mega Charizard Y dive-bombed into the ground, causing a tremor that rattled the entire island. Needless to say, this was more than enough to knock Mabosstiff out.
Triumphant, Charizard roared as it returned to its normal form. It then rushed back to its trainer to give him a high-five. "Another victory to add to the board!" Dominic cheered.
Devon Corporation Building (Day)
"Remind me again why we came here?" Arven asked. After the awards ceremony, Dominic was gifted with an Armor Fossil. Which was given to a random scientist for seemingly no reason two minutes ago.
"Be patient. Science takes time." the blonde said.
"Dominic Xiao-Long, as I live and breathe!" a new voice said. Taylor and Arven were surprised to see a cyan-haired man in a black suit approach Dominic.
"Hey, Steven. I thought I'd see you here." the boy said, smiling. "These are my friends. Meet Arven and Taylor."
"Hello there." the man said. "I am Steven Stone. My father is the president of the Devon Corporation."
"Arven Sada. I'm doing research on how food affects Pokemon." Arven said, a bit intimidated by Steven's title.
"I'm Taylor. I became a Pokemon Trainer just recently." Taylor said.
"They came with me to the Battle Resort event today. I thought I'd bring Taylor here to show her what happens when you give a Fossil to the right guy." Dominic explained. Just as he said that, the scientist he gave the Fossil to entered the room again.
"Thank you for your patience." the scientist said, holding a Poke Ball in his hand.
"If you don't mind, would you give it to her?" Dominic asked, pointing to Taylor.
"Uh, why are you asking him to give me a Poke Ball?" the girl asked, confused.
"Toss it." Dominic told her.
Not knowing why he wanted her to do this, Taylor accepted the Poke Ball and tossed it. The capsule opened, and in a flash, a reptilian Pokemon with a face covered in stone appeared.
"A Shieldon! Quite the rare find here in Hoenn." Steven said, impressed.
"Wait, did this come from the Fossil?" Taylor asked, completely caught off-guard. For some reason, a movie from Earth Aleph came to mind.
"Yep." Dominic said. "See, in this world, Fossils can be revived into perfect living organisms. Although, the process isn't exact, it does allow us to catch, train, and understand prehistoric Pokemon."
"I never knew this." Arven said, thinking about Paradox Pokemon like Koraidon and his mother's research on time travel. Could they also be revived if their fossils were ever found too?
"So, you're giving this one to me?" Taylor asked as Shieldon moved closer to her and nuzzled against her leg.
AN: The next chapter will involve Taylor and my personal favorite Pokemon! (It's not hard to guess.)
