A Dog's Purpose Is Strange Magic 2 Chapter 24
If the loss of Riddle's diary can be a sign of grave and gloomy times to come that's nothing compared to what occurs on the next Quidditch match on Saturday which is Gryffindor against Hufflepuff means to bring onto not just the group but the entire school.
It started as a normal day just like any other. Even the weather was nice carrying brilliant sunshine and a light, refreshing breeze in the air.
The majority of Gryffindor House is congregated in the Great Hall for breakfast and those departing are getting ready to witness today's game.
Bailey herself is in a good mood. She's enjoying sharing a nice peaceful breakfast with her daughter Dreamer. She wanted to spend some quality time with her youngest little girl. She'd be spending the game with her in the stands. Afterward, Harry intended to go down with the rest of the litter to the lake for some relaxation. It's become one of his top favorite things to do now lately in order to live with the stress.
As the group of five exits the Great Hall to go and collect his Quidditch equipment things another serious worry is added to the growing list of things that are weighing on his mind. He barely made a step up the marble staircase when he heard it yet again.
"Kill this time…let me rip…tear…"
Harry shouts aloud and Ron and Hermione both jump away from him in alarm. They aren't the only ones by the way. At the exact same time Harry heard it so did Bailey and Dreamer. Dreamer yelps pressing against her mother's side in a crouch, trembling in utter terror. Bailey immediately shifts into a defensive position, lips pulled back over her bared teeth as she snarls in warning at whatever is speaking in that awful voice.
Rapidly turning his head in multiple directions in search of the perpetrator, Harry said "The voice! I just heard it again, didn't you?"
Ron shook his head, wide-eyed.
Hermione, however, is eyeing the dogs.
Pointing emphatically at them, Harry said "I know I heard it. So did they. I'm not hearing things."
Clapping a head to her forehead in sudden realization, Hermione gasped "Harry, I think I've just understood something! I've got to go to the library."
Hermione quickly takes off for that very place. Not wanting to stick around where she thinks that thing can reach her, permitting her fear to get the better of her, Dreamer bolts at a run up the stairs beside Hermione. The pup is intent on going with Hermione, ignoring her mother's barks to return and Harry's command to come back.
"Oh leave her be. She'll just be with Hermione. They'll meet us down at the game anyway," said Ron.
"What does she understand," said Harry, distractedly, pressing his ear to the wall directly over a spot where Bailey is scratching at with her paw.
Shrugging cluelessly, Ron said "Loads more than I do."
"But why she's got to go to the library," said Harry, shifting in different spots to double check.
There's no trace. The monster is long gone.
"Because that's what Hermione does. When in doubt, go to the library," said Ron, noticing more people emerging from the Great Hall in huge, excited waves for the game. "You'd better get moving. It's nearly eleven. The match will be starting soon."
Ron took Bailey down to the Quidditch Pitch while Harry made a quick run to Gryffindor Tower for his Nimbus Two Thousand. They settled in the stands with the other Gryffindors. One by one in a steady stream all spaces in the stands fill with eager spectators. As more time passes Bailey's confusion on her daughter's absence seems to grow. She and Hermione should've been here by now. Bailey gets that Hermione can often get lost in her books, but she's never missed or been late for a game before. Bailey is drawn out of these worried thoughts by the tumultuous applause exploding as the Gryffindor and Hufflepuff teams walk out onto the open field. Just as Madam Hooch had released all the balls and everyone is mounting their brooms the unexpected happened.
Instead of taking her usual place in the stands right next to Lee Jordan, Professor McGonagall rushes onto the field and announces to all in the vicinity that this match has been canceled and all students should return to their dormitories as fast as possible much to everyone's displeasure. However agitation, frustration, and irritation are soon replaced by unease as people contemplate the reasons behind this action.
Ron and Bailey intercept Harry as Professor McGonagall comes over to lead him away.
Harry, Ron, and Bailey trail after Professor McGonagall back into the school and up the marble staircase. Along the way, Professor McGonagall doesn't clarify on where she's taking them. She doesn't deliver them to Gryffindor Tower or her own office.
Bailey soon surmises that they're being taken to the Hospital Wing. A sinking feeling hits her stomach as she reaches this conclusion.
Not far from the doors into the hospital wing, speaking in a surprisingly gentle voice on the approach, Professor McGonagall said "This will be a bit of a shock. There has been another attack…This time a triple one."
Triple?
Bailey is now walking on numb and shaky paws.
No.
Professor McGonagall pushes open the door and Harry, Ron, and Bailey enter.
Madam Pomfrey is found bending over a sixth-year girl with long, curly hair. Bailey recognizes her as a Ravenclaw she's seen in passing in the hallways. And on another newly occupied bed is Hermione.
"Hermione," groaned Ron.
Hermione lay utterly still, her eyes open and glassy.
"They were found near the library," informed Professor McGonagall, holding up a small, circular mirror. "I don't suppose either of you can explain this? It was on the floor next to them."
Both staring at Hermione, Harry and Ron shook their heads.
Slowly, afraid to hear the answer, Harry broached "Professor, you mentioned this was a triple attack…Who is the third?"
Eyes filled with soft sympathy and apology Professor McGonagall points to the bed neighboring Hermione's.
Bailey jumps on the bed to get a clear look at the victim's identity and nearly falls off the side from the impact of the shock and grief.
The third victim…is Dreamer.
Harry is just as devastated as she is.
"Dreamer," breathed Harry in disbelief and horror.
Bailey is inconsolable.
Dreamer's catatonic and petrified condition practically shatters Bailey's heart. She nudges and paws at her daughter only to receive no response which hurts the poor dear even more. It breaks her soul to pieces that Dreamer must've been so scared when the attack hit, and she wasn't there to protect her precious one. All the effort Bailey put in since she and her siblings were born to protect and shield them from dangers is all for naught.
In Bailey's opinion, she's failed as a mother, placing the blame for this directly on herself. She never should've let Dreamer leave with Hermione when she did and should've kept her little one at her side.
Bailey throws her head back unleashing a howl brimming with tormented sorrow and immeasurable sadness.
Down below at Hagrid's house 6 other resounding howls rise into the air and reach her and another singular howl coming from deeper into the Dark Forest echoes, answering Bailey's agonized cry and sharing in the devastation.
Sniffling Bailey curls as much as she can around her sweet and lovely daughter's stiff and cold form, placing her head over Dreamers. Bailey sniffles, a tear dripping down her facial fur and onto the bed covers.
"I will escort you back to Gryffindor Tower. I need to address the students in any case," said Professor McGonagall in heavy graveness.
By the time they reach the common room in Gryffindor Tower all the students are assembled waiting for Professor McGonagall's announcement.
Reactions on the news are like the ones Harry and Ron had.
Calling for silence Professor McGonagall reads out the new school rules that the other Heads of Houses are telling their charges.
"All students will return to their House common rooms by six o'clock in the evening. No student is to leave the dormitories after that time. You will be escorted to each lesson by a teacher. No student is to use the bathroom unaccompanied by a teacher. Al further Quidditch training and matches are to be postponed. There will be no more evening activities. No exceptions," said Professor McGonagall, firmly, rolling up the parchment from which she had been reading. "I need hardly add that I have rarely been so distressed. It is likely that the school will be closed unless the culprit behind these attacks is caught. I would urge anyone who thinks they might know anything about them to come forward."
Bailey would except she can't exactly talk.
Almost all the Gryffindors begin talking immediately after Professor McGonagall climbs out the portrait hole to reconvene with the rest of the Hogwarts staff.
Bailey doesn't pay attention to any of them so lost in her own misery. She hasn't moved or made any sound once since they got in. Entirely unlike her and it's not long before others take notice of her drastic change in behavior.
Dean asked "Hey, Harry, what's wrong with Bailey?"
"Is she sick," asked Lavender.
Exhaling shakily, Harry said "She's not sick. One of her pups was accompanying Hermione earlier and was caught in the attack."
Alarmed gasps ring out.
"Which one was it," demanded Lee Jordan.
"Dreamer," said Harry, clenching his hands into fists. "It was Dreamer."
A number of the girls instantly start crying and hugging each other. Dreamer is a favorite amongst them because of her pleasant and delightful nature. It's hard for them to register.
Harry absentmindedly strokes a despondent Bailey as he goes over everything that's happened and all the information they'd gathered in his head.
Speaking quietly in Harry's ear, Ron said "What are we going to do? Do you think they suspect Hagrid?"
Making up his mind for Hermione, Dreamer, and Bailey's sake, Harry said "We've got to go and talk to him. I can't believe it's him this time, but if he set the monster loose last time, even accidentally, he'll know how to get inside the Chamber of Secrets and that's a start."
"But McGonagall said we've got to stay in our tower unless we're in class," reminded Ron.
Nodding his head in decisive contemplation, Harry said "I don't know about you, but I think it's time to get my dad's old cloak out again."
And that's precisely what they end up doing regardless of the risks.
Authors Note:
When Harry, Ron, and Bailey go into the Dark Forest following the spiders to Aragog's den do you think any of the pups should go with them and if so which one?
I'm sure those of you on fanfiction have been facing the many unwanted ads when you're reading a story. Well, yesterday, I finally had enough, and I got an adblocker app. It worked! No more ads on any level! The one I got is Adblock Pro: Safari Ad Blocker. It really works. Just follow the instruction video that it attached to it.
Heads up everyone there's someone on fanfiction you need to seriously watch out for. Early a couple of months ago after I woke up I was checking my email and I saw I had a new guest review on my A Dog's Purpose Is Strange Magic 2 sequel. I took a look at it and got a very big shock. Some random person I've never spoken to before on here or anywhere else in my life was basically threatening me. Intimidating and practically ordering me to write a threatening letter to someone on their behalf, telling to stay off of for life or else they and everyone else close to them would be killed, disgustingly telling them to kill themselves. And at the bottom of the message this crazy person wasn't done. Warning me that if I don't send the letter then they would kill me and for confirmation to email them to make absolutely sure I complied with their demands. Of course I did nothing of the sort. Instead of doing what they wanted I reported them to the website, sent copies of this deplorable guest review message to police officer cousins of mine so they could have it on file, and I went to a nearby police station and reported it.
When I spoke to the police officers and they checked everything on the message they saw, that while the address and names of business were accurate the people and their names were not. They agree it was more than likely a scam because of the email address on the bottom in order to perhaps get access to personal information or potentially hack my computer. Despite that I'm still very happy they took it seriously as I showed and told them everything. All the same I'm still very happy that I brought this to the attention of law enforcement. Even though the entire thing might be fake I'm still very happy to have brought this to the attention of those who can do something about it if it was legit in some way. This may have been a scam, but it's obvious these people are beyond irresponsible if they try to goad people into sending death threats to random strangers just to get access to info.
Be that as it may if this does unfortunately happen to you do not send any messages to the email addresses they put down and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you bring the message to the authorities immediately whether it is legit or not.
Because it's a guest review it might not be visible for a couple of days as it loads if it is sent to you. But when it does you should definitely pressing the report abuse button and send it to the email that leads to the support staff that is available.
Just a heads up to those of you who aren't aware of this yet, Email alerts for this website are now only active if Email opts is enabled in account settings.
I hope you all like this one! I certainly did while writing it for your vast enjoyment! ;D
For those of you just starting out with my stuff there are other works on my profile that may catch your interest. I highly recommend you take a look as soon as the opportunity presents itself to you. Who knows, you may be pleasantly surprised by what you discover.
Stay safe everyone. Especially with all of these crazy natural disasters occurring a lot lately due to global warming and climate change everywhere for sure. I swear it's like they're getting worse and worse all the time and it's like officials are simply just ignoring it or pretending it doesn't exist entirely just to go on with their daily lives. Especially those in multi-million dollar companies that rely on certain elements of our planet that we rely on to naturally keep us safe instead of adapting and finding new safer ways to keep in business. There are so many options out there where they can adapt, but they just refuse to see it because all they care about is money. Climate change is altering so much faster than anyone can really keep track of.
So, in light of all this, it is important to live life to the fullest as much as anyone can.
I know I am. ;) See you guys next time.
