I know the timeline is off but that's ok. This fanfiction is inspired by my friend's idea, shout out to you!
After the Battle of Hogwarts, Hermione went back to finish her 7th year, while Harry and Ron went to do Auror training. She graduated with top marks for her N.E.W.T.S and decided to go on a trip around Europe. Her parents had disowned her before the war, because they wanted "nothing to do with any of this wizarding business". They also mentioned that they weren't her parents; she was adopted soon after her birth. Hermione had erased their memory and was planning to keep it that way. Thinking of taking the muggle way to London, she bought a train ticket and started her long journey.
She was a few steps away when she heard a thump. Two people were talking in the compartment next to her.
"Get out of this compartment right now!" someone yelled.
Knowing she had her wand on her, Hermione walked into the next compartment. It contained two boys.
"I don't mean to interrupt, but what's going on?" she demanded, evident in her voice. The person on the right didn't really seem like a boy at all.
"Sorry for my rude question but are you a boy?" she asked, indicating the one on the right, who was looking at the door anxiously.
"Now is really not a good time, ok? A man in a brown bowler hat is on this train and wants to kill him." The one on the right snapped, pointing to the other boy.
"If we get caught with him, we're as good as dead too." 'Ha! Many people have tried to kill me, and they haven't succeeded yet,' she mused.
"Trust me, we will get off this train alive and in one piece if it's up to me." She said to the two, and sat down on one of the benches.
"My name is Hermione Granger, what are your names? I know you aren't a boy, by the way." She said, to the one on the right.
"Well my name is Viscount Tewkesbury Marquess of Basilwether, but you can just call me Tewkesbury." the boy on the left boasted with a confident smile.
"Oh yes, "Lord" Tewkesbury. And it also just happens that the Lord himself has someone sent to kill him" The one on the right said, rolling their eyes.
She was just about to reply when someone down the hallway started slamming doors open and closed.
"Is that Tewkesburys' mystery killer?" She asked calmly. The one on the right laughed, but Tewkesbury looked as white as a ghost.
"Let's get out of here before we're caught, okay?" Suggested a very nervous Tewkesbury. Once they hear another door open, they dash out into the hallway. As they ran down the hallway, the one who hadn't said their name yet turned to Hermione.
"Usually I don't like other girls but I like you, my name is Enola," She whispered. Hermione smiles; she feels like she's known Enola forever, even though she knows it's the first time they've seen each other, she already has a strong connection to her. She is snapped out of her thoughts when they reach the end of the hallway, as the man in the brown bowler hat starts chasing after them. Enola opened the door that led onto the edge of the carriage/compartment of the train.
They were technically cornered, but Hermione had an idea. Even though it would give away her identity, these were her only muggle friends. Even though she had only known them for the last 20 minutes, she felt a need to keep them safe.
"We are doomed!" Tewkesbury yelled. She could hear the terror in his voice.
"Don't be so dramatic! I have an idea and will explain everything later, but I just need you to trust me!" She shouted back at him and Enola. They both nodded as Hermione took out her wand to cast a silencing charm and a cushioning charm on them.
Once she was sure she got the spells right, she yelled back, "Please don't freak out, but I'm going to ask you to JUMP!"Hermione shouted as she jumped off the train. She looked back at the train, where Tewksbury was standing, shaking as he debated whether to jump or not.
"Just jump!" She yelled, "I'll catch you!" After a few moments, Tewkesbury landed on the ground next to her. She looked back at the train that was speeding away from them and saw the man in the brown bowler hat looking around, confused at how they had landed.
Once the train was out of sight and she had lifted the charms, Enola and Tewkesbury stared at her in amazement and confusion.
"Okay, so I promised you an explanation so… I'm a witch, and yes I can do magic. When I was 11 years old I got a letter from a magical school telling me this. I made some great friends, but even worse enemies. About a year ago there was a battle at my school, against He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, the Death Eaters and Dememtors who used dark magic. We won, but lost a lot of people. My friends got jobs in the wizarding world but I decided to continue my life in the non-magical world. My parents also told me that I was adopted at birth so I need to figure that out but other than that the rest you know basically." Hermione explained.
"Who's He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named?" They asked at the exact same time. Hermione glanced left and right cautiously.
"Voldemort" she whispered, expecting him to appear at any second.
"Huh? Voldemort is a terribly dumb name." Tewksbury said, trying not to laugh. Hermione rolled her eyes and said, "Alright I explained my life, so now it's your turn, 'oh great and wonderful Lord', if that's what you are." Tewksbury sighed and looked up. "Fine but just for your information I have no idea why that guy wants to kill me, but I don't really want to find out." Enola had been silent and still was, but was looking really weirdly at Hermione. Before Tewksbury could tell his story Enola turned to Hermione and said "How old are you? What's your last name? Where did you live? What's your full name?" Hermione turned to her weirdly and Tewksbury just stood there looking at the two of them. "Well to answer your questions I am 20, going on 21. My last name was Granger but not anymore, I think my biological last name starts with 'H'. I used to live at 8 Heathgate, Hampstead Garden Suburb, London". And what my full name used to be was 'Hermione Jean Granger, I know my given name was Hermione so that's the only thing I am certain about." Tewksbury looked at Enola in confusion, because Enola was writing everything that Hermione had said in a notebook.
"I just realized that I gave you slightly confidential information, can I trust you?" Hermione asked Enola when she finished writing. She nodded. "I woke up 3 days ago on my 16th birthday. When I went downstairs my mum wasn't in the house at all. She didn't come back. My brothers came back home and tried to send me to a finishing school so I ran away today." Enola said sadly.
"What are your brother's names and ages?" Hermione asked, and Enola replied "Sherlock and Mycroft, Sherlock is 26 and Mycroft is 33, why?" Hermione just looked out into space and said "I heard my adoptive parents say in the kitchen when they thought I wasn't there 'what were her brothers names again, Sherlock and Mycroft? What strange names, and Hermione! Whoever her real parents are, they have a horrible taste in names.' Then I came into the room and we had a fight until she told me the truth." She refocused and said to Enola " I think…you…you're my…my sister. I thought you looked a little bit like me on the train, but I wasn't sure." Enola looked at Hermione, smiled and hugged her
"I've always wanted a sister!" she exclaimed happily. "Umm, I am still here, you know. Also, what!? Are you like…long lost sisters!?"Tewksbury squawked.
"Seems like it, but right now we need to hide from the man that's trying to kill you! Have we all just forgotten about him!?" Enola shouted. After a few minutes of arguing, they all agreed that they should walk to the woods.
Tewksbury started telling Enola and Hermione fun facts about plants and what could be eaten and what couldn't. Hermione started a fire as Tewksbury collected things to eat from the woods around them. When Tewksbury finished collecting Hermione used a spell to start the fire.
"I still find it amazing how you can just make fire come out of a stick." Tewksbury told Hermione.
"Well it is cool just make sure you don't mention it to anyone ok? Things haven't really gone smoothly with things like this in the past" Hermione replied.
After they finished eating their makeshift dinner, Enola turned to Tewksbury and said. "Since you are the one that 'he' wants to kill, we should change your appearance a bit. How much do you care for your hair?" Tewksbury looked a little taken aback but just said "Not a lot, but how are you going to cut my hair? You don't even have a knife." Enola just pulled out a knife and started to sharpen it. "Who taught you how to sharpen a knife?" Tewksbury said. "My mother." Enola said simply. "Was she nice?" Hermione asked, wondering what it would have been like to grow up with Enola and her mother. "Yes, of course she was nice…that's why I'm trying to look for her. She wouldn't leave me without a reason, would she…?" Enola mused, thinking wistfully. They sat there for a while with a faraway look in their eyes.
They made plans for the next day and tried to sleep. Tewksbury was the first to enter the land of dreams, while Hermione and Enola lay face to face with one another. "Why do you think I was adopted?" Hermione asked out of the blue.
"I'm not sure… I wonder if my – our brothers knew about you." Enola questioned
"I don't think they would have known, because you said our brother is a very good detective. I am sure if he knew about me, he would at least have some interest." Hermione replied with a confident voice even though her face and thoughts betrayed it. Our mother probably didn't want me because I have magic. Hermione shoved the thought out of her mind. No. I've just found Enola. I can't think about that. The newfound sister fell into a sleep filled with dreams
