Hermione woke to find she was the first one up. She busied herself making breakfast. She had a few Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans in her pocket, but they were a sketchy murky green colour. She didn't want to risk it, so she hunted around for something edible. After a few minutes, Enola woke up.
"Hermione? Why are you up so early?" Enola whined. To Hermione, it felt…right.
"I'm trying to get breakfast, but I can't find anything to eat." Hermione said, frustrated.
"Can't you just…magic us some food or something?" Enola was evidently curious.
"Even magic has its limitations." Hermione replied with a sigh. Besides, she still wasn't comfortable using magic around muggles, even if they were okay with it. She searched the ground in the clearing twice over before climbing the trees. It was there that she found the prize: eggs. She clambered down the tree, carefully trying not to drop her precious cargo. She lit a fire and transfigured a branch into a pan and a stick into a spatula. Tewkesbury woke when she was cooking the eggs.
"Where did you get that frying pan from?" He asked
"I made it."
"Is there anything you can't do with your wand?"
"Of course there is, magic has its limitations and if a wand could do anything there would be unlimited chaos." Hermione answered him, trying not to go into full lecture mode because she knew how Harry and Ron reacted.
"Here." Hermione said, giving Tewksbury and Enola them a fried egg each.
After the trio had their breakfast, Enola and Hermione had decided that they would continue finding their mother together, while Tewksbury went off to do something he wouldn't tell either of the girls, for apparently they wouldn't 'get it'. After they went their separate ways, Hermione asked Enola, "Have you ever been in the city before? You seem… out of sorts in this environment."
Enola turned her head, "well mother may have trained in many things but the outside world was not one of them." She replied, still taking in her surroundings.
"Hey, you said people are looking for you right? And that they know you well?" Hermione said questionably Enola nodded slowly then her eyes widened in realisation,
"right so I probably shouldn't be dressed in the one thing they expect me to… do you have a dress I can borrow?" Enola asked. Hermione pulled her into a deserted alleyway and pulled out her small beaded bag. She always carried it around with everything she needed, ever since she, Harry and Ron went on the hunt for the horcruxes. She reached into the small bag and her whole arm disappeared into the bag and Enola let out a squeak in surprise.
"I probably should get used to this." Enola muttered. Hermione smiled and handed her one of the dresses she pulled out of her bag along with a hat.
After Enola had put the dress and hat on Hermione led her to the house that she had rented for her stay in London and they both settled down.
"So, I have a sister who can do magic…and my brothers are trying to find me…my mother is lost…dead…father…murder?" Hermione could hear Enola putting the pieces together.
"Hey… Enola? Um…has something ever happened, something you or your family could never explain? Something that you did or said?" Hermione questioned her.
"Uh…well, the thing is, I don't know. Maybe…Father dying? I'm not sure. I was so young when he…you know" Enola was obviously confused about the question.
"Hold still." Hermione said, as she put her wand onto Enola's temple. When she drew it away again, a thin silvery strand was attached to the end of her wand. She placed it into the pensive that she withdrew from her beaded bag…
Hermione gestured for Enola to come over as she put the memory into the pensive. The two sisters glanced at each other before submerging their heads into the water.
Memory:
Mr Holmes is on the sofa with several bottles of alcoholic drinks surrounding him.
"Well if you indeed killed him you may have at least a motive" Hermione told Enola quietly as they watched the scene unfold in front of them:
Mr Holmes sighed frustratedly and threw a bottle onto the floor. The contents leaked onto the floor and Past Eudoria rushed in to clean up the mess with Past Enola behind her.
"I'm so sorry…I didn't mean to intrude on your space, but the alcohol will soak into the floors and rot the wood if…" She looked up to find Mr Holmes staring down at her.
"WHAT did you just say?" He yelled. Past Eudoria made a whimpering noise and slowly backed away.
"You stupid WOMAN! WHY did I ever marry you? All you care about is your STUPID children!" Mr Holmes smacked his wife on the back with such force that it sounded like a gun.
Past Enola shrieked and dropped Dash. Mr Holmes glared at her with fury.
"Children should be SEEN AND NOT HEARD!" He snarled as he stalked toward Past Enola. She closed her eyes, as if she was focusing on something, and in a flash of light, her father wasn't there anymore. She blinked once and ran toward her mother.
"Sherlock! Mycroft! HELP!" She screamed.
The sounds of her older brother's footsteps echoed on the wooden floorboards as they ran into the room.
Enola and Hermione surfaced from the memory, shaken by the violence that Enolas' father showed.
"You said…you said he was kind and generous?" Hermione asked, confused.
"That's what Sherlock said, but now I'm not so sure." Enola replied, "Maybe…Maybe, he was better before that?" She seemed unconvinced. 'But what was that, what happened to my dad?' Enola thought. Hermione looked at Enola frowning, "You did magic… magic that made your dad disappear." Hermione said, trying to explain to Enola. Enola just looked as confused as ever.
"Well, you see when a young witch or wizard gets really overwhelmed by emotions they can have what we call 'a burst of accidental magic' which is what happened to you when your dad…erm…died."Hermione tried to explain carefully, afraid of upsetting her sister. All Enola did was nod. The two girls just sat in silence for about a good 2 minutes before Hermione got up to make some tea. "Thanks" Enola said as Hermione handed her a steaming mug.
"So… what's your next move?" Hermione questioned, sipping her tea.
"I don't know! How did I– , I never even– This is all so confusing!" Enold shouted, pounding her fist on the table. As she did, the table exploded in a shower of sparks.
"Well, there you go," Hermione said "magic."
"But how– I never even knew I had it!" Enola was very confused
"Well, magic is like that; you don't know you have it until you do." Hermione tried to explain. She got up and went to the door.
"Well, now that I know you have magic, I can show you around the 'Wizarding part of London'" she said, beckoning to her sister.
"Um…I don't know if this is a good idea," Enola murmured, shaking her head
"Come on! It'll be fun! We'll get you a wand and an owl and a cauldron, and some books, of course… Oh! And maybe we'll even find you a robe!" Hermione exclaimed as she pulled her sister towards the door.
