Chapter 1

07:00GST March 12th 2161AD

Macross Kaguya, Macross Kaguya fleet, Cyrus 4, Cyrus System

A large sized colony fleet cruised cautiously through the system. Needle nosed frigates and snub nosed cruisers guarded the carriers, zentran battleships and a trio of colony ships, one Island class and two Arch-Angel colony ships, were at the center of the fleet. Variable fighters, starfighters battle suits,. drones and variable destroids patrolled the perimeter while officers and staff kept watch at their stations. Aboard the fortress, a brown haired admiral walked onto the bridge and nodded to the staff.

"Morning people." The Admiral nodded nodded.

"Morning ma'am." The bridge staff smiled. Most of them were women, save for the engineer, who was a big and buff cyborg named Steve. The ships captain smiled and made her way from the bridges small galley over to the commodore with two cups of coffee.

"Morning, Lisa," Captain Helena Chase smiled and handed her a cup.

"Thanks." Lisa accepted the cup. She took a sip then gazed at the main screen in front of her. "Well here we are at Cyrus IV. The start of our journey."

"Indeed." Helena nodded. "Status people!"

"Weapons are on standby." The silver haired beauty Sally Saint Ford nodded as she sat at the tactical panel.

"Good. Engines, 2nd Lieutenant Miho."

"Engines at the ready for evasive manuvers." Miho Miho, a short and cute brown haired woman nodded.

"Good." Lisa nodded then looked at Komilia Sterling. "We got anything on radar, Sterling."

"Variable fighters are currently patrolling the perimeter." Komilia Sterling reported. "They haven't reported anything yet but they're keeping an eye out for invid. Reccomend we increase our patrols as we pass Cyrus IV's natural satillite.

"I concur." Helena nodded.

"Very well." Lisa nodded. "Engineering?"

"Fold drive is ready for emergency warp if needed." The engineer reported. "All systems ready."

"Any alerts from the rest of thre fleet?' Helena checked, knowing that the chief would know that too.

"Other than some problems on the two zentradi vessels no ma'am." THe commtech reported.

"And Justy Tyler. Again." Helena just sighed...

"Let me know if we need to delay," Helena said

Helena said, "They confirmed they can keep pace, ma'am, while repairing."

"Very well." Lisa nodded. She sat back and had a sip of her tea. Backed by Muratagi, Caldwich industries and others the fleet was very well funded. But she wondered how far would they influence the princess ruling her small nation.

That same moment, Uminari, Kaguya City. Kaguya Fleet.

The sun rose over Neo Tokyo, bathing in warm yellow sunlight. It crept over sky-scraper, ground vehicles, streets and two story homes in the suburbs. In one such home, a red haired woman received a kiss from a blonde haired woman standing at her side of the bed. She was wearing a dark blue UN SPACY uniform. They held the kiss for a moment before the blonde stepped back.

"You should get up, lest we'll both be late." Fate Testarossa said "I'll see if Vivio is up."

"Right." Dustine slipped out of the bed as Fate slipped out of the room. Dustine wrapped herself up in a robe on a hanger, entered the bathroom, briefly undressed then proceeded to clean herself off. Fate meanwhile smiled when she heard Vivio was brushing her teeth in the washroom near her room and padded down the stairs to help Nanoha with breakfast.

"Are they both up." Nanoha asked as she tended to some omletes, bacon and toast..

"Yep." Fate nodded.

"Good." Nanoha nodded. "Ready for today's mission."

"Mm." Fate smiled and nodded again.
Dustine yawned as she padded down the flight of stairs within her two story home. She was wearing a light blue short sleeved UN SPACY uniform. Delicious smells greeted her nose as she walked through the family room towards the red head smiled as she entered the kitchen.

"Morning." Dustine nodded to a blonde and a brunette who were tending to breakfast.

"Morning," The blonde greeted her and gave her a cup of coffee.

"Thanks Fate." Dustine nodded and took a sip. "Mm."

"Breakfast is almost ready." Nanoha added as she flipped a few omletes, checked on the rice and toast as well as the sausage links on the island.

"Smells great." Dustine said as she took another sip of her coffee then stretched her arms over her head, feeling a vertibrae pop. She continued to twist and stretch a bit more "Mmm. Wheres Vivio?"

"She should be up." Nanoha nodded.

Unbeknownst to them, Vivio had already snuck up on Dustine.

"Beep!" Vivio poked a pit causing Dustine to jump.

"Eep!" Dustine yelped then glared at her. "Vivio?!"

"Haha. You were wide open Mama." Vivio giggled only to be lightly bapped by Nanoha with a wooden spoon.

"No horse play in the kitchen vivio." Nanoha chided her firmly. "Someone could get hurt."

"Sorry mama's." Vivio apologized to both Nanoha and Dustine.

"Breakfast is ready. Can you set the table."

"Yes dear..." Dustine chuckled

"Hmm, breakfast," Vivio beamed as she poured everyone morning drinks. Meanwhile, Fate put out the plates while Dustine put out the sliverware. When they were done they sat at the table as Nanoha brought out some omletes, toast and rice.

"Breakfast is served!" Nanoha smiled as she put the food on their plates. "Dig in!"

"Thank you for the meal." Fate, Dustine and Vivio smiled and dug in. Nanoha grinned and dug in as well.

"So. Whats on today's agenda, Dustine?" Fate asked.

"Patrols most likely,." Dustine noted. "..and flying the VF-26 variable fighter."

"I'm kinda jealous now." Fate mock pouted.

"You just wanna go fast," Vivio teased

"Well, yes..."Fate sighed.

"Are you patrolling too?" Dustine glanced at Nanoha and Fate.

"Yes." Nanoha nodded then, after seeing Vivio's worried look, changed the subject to her education. "So how's training going Vivi?"

"Training's going well Mama." Vivio nodded. "I've been practicing strike arts everyday. My studies are going well too."

"Good." Nanoha nodded then asked. "Is your club still working on that Garland heavy bike."

"Yep. We should have it up and running soon." Vivio nodded.

"Hm." Nanoha nodded then sighed. "Well we're going into unexplored territory. But we might run into Invid or other things. So if theres an alert I want you to be careful out there."

"Yes ma'am." Vivio nodded.

"Vivio, do you need a ride to school?" Fate checked, changing the subject.

"Yes please." Vivio nodded.

"Okay. I'll drive you." Nanoha nodded.

"Yay!" Vivio beamed. They finished off their breakfast, put the dishes in the washer and got ready to leave. Dustine and Fate put on a pair of bomber jackets to keep their unforms clean while Vivio grabbed her school bag and a box lunch already prepared by Nanoha

"Are you going to be apart of the strike arts junior division again this year?" Nanoha asked as she opened the garage.

"That's the plan. But I'm trying to balance school, training and working on our project." Vivio said as she got into Nanoha's car. Fate meanwhile clambered onto Dustine's two seater Garland X. Dustine passed a helmet to Fate who pulled it on. Dustine pressed the start button and grinned when the Garland's turbine spun up. She revved it once as Nanoha rolled down her window.

"See you later tonight!" Nanoha called out then reminded them. "Don't go over the speed limit alright."

"Yes ma'am." Dustine replied and sped off.

"They're gonna speed aren't they." Vivio sighed.

"Dustine's in charge this time. She'll stay within the limits." Nanoha nodded as they pulled out of the driveway and drove down the street through the suburb. It was your typical suburb, lined with trees, shrubbery, fences and two story homes. Eventually they came at a stop and turned onto a main road that lead them towards the city. Meanwhile, Dustine took it a bit easy while riding the Garland X. She maintained the speed limit since she didn't want to be pulled over like last time. She was late and was chewed out by her secretary and her Superior officer. As they did, two speeders charged at them from behind, with the local police in hot persuit. There were at least three interceptors and two high speed Moto Flaggers in flight mode. High above them, a Police Variable Air Patrol Craft trailed behind the speeders. Dustine was ready to jink out of the way, but the speeders swerved out of the way and swerved back in her lane way past her. One flipped Dustine off as the local police was bearing down on them. Dustine slipped over to right lane and let the interceptors and the flight vehicles pass.

"That was rude of them." Fate grumbled.

"The cops will stop em." Dustine said.

"Hopefully." Fate nodded then noted. "Those police flying vehicles looked like Flaggers."

"Those are the newer Moto-Flaggers." Dustine noted called up a image on Fate's visor as she drove. "They have a bike mode and also a flight mode. GENOM make em. They're very mobile and do have some fire power. However, they don't provide a lot of protection like the Cylcones does."

"Mm." Fate nodded.

"Altough Those pilots were wearing a CVR Like suit. So that's something at least." Dustine noted.

"True." Fate agreed.

They continued on on the elevated main highway, passing scenery, driving through the main city and towards the large dock at the end of the domed city. Once they arrived they parked in a parking space and made their way onto the command ship via ground vehicles down a causeway and onto the starboard main thruster section.

"We're here." Dustine said as they walked up to a security booth.

"Right on time too." Fate noted. A tall yet stocky micronized Zentradi was manning the booth at the time.

"Yeah." Dustine nodded and pulled out her ID. "Morning Stan."

"Morning." Fate also greeted him.

"Good Morning," Stan nodded then waved them in. "Go on in."

"Thank you." Dustine nodded and they made their way trough the ship then stopped at an intersection in the main hallway.

"Have a good day," Dustine waved

"Be safe," Fate nodded.

"Will do." Dustine nodded and both headed off to report in to her commanding officer. She went up to the office and entered it to see her CO's assistant working on some paper work. "Morning. I'm here to report into Commander Chandlier."

"Morning Lt Commander McCormick. She's expecting you." The assistant nodded.

Dustine grinned and walked over to the door next to the assistants desk and knocked on it.

"Come in." A womans voice called out.

Dustine adjusted her uniform and stepped inside. It was a medium sized office that had a few decorations on its walls. Sitting at the desk was a silver haired woman had a pair of wolf ears sitting atop their head.

Commander Ariel Chandlier grinned when Dustine stepped inside her office. "Your on time for once."

"Didn't get caught by the police this time. Though some unluckly blokes did." Dustine shrugged.

"Ha," Ariel grinned.

"So what's today's assignment." Dustine asked her CO as she sat down.

"Patrolling sector G on the fourth defensive line." The silver haired woman noted then adjusted her glasses. "Wide range scan reports that there may be some debris.
So handle with care out there."

"Okay." Dustine nodded. "Standard equipment?"

"Yes." Commander Chandler nodded. "You'll be investigating point X143Z9 while Wolf Squadron, Commanded by LtCommander Randal, will be investigationg X132X9 and Scepter squadron will investigating X121Z9."

"Close by. Right?" Dustine asked.

"More or less." Ariel nodded.

"When do we move out?" Dustine asked.

"At 10:00GST." Ariel stated. "That'll give you enough time to go over flight plans with your wing leader and your squadrons."

"What are we looking for?" Dustine asked.

"Well this is confidential but command thinks that this might be where a solnoid battlegroup was lost...and we want your group to check the debris ahead." Ariel confided.

"Understood." Dustine nodded. "Anything else?"

"The usual. Keep your eyes peeled for invid or Tirolian forces." Ariel nodded.

"Right." Dustine nodded.

"Dismissed." Ariel nodded.

Dustine stood up, saluted and left.

"Commander Chandlier? Captain Ursula is here to see you." Her assistant called over her phones intercomm.

Ariel's ears perked up and the silver haired woman tabbed the button. "Send her in."

"Yes ma'am," The assistant replied.

Moments later, the door clacked open and a seven foot Karbarren female wearing a UN Spacy tunic walked in.

"Good morning Ursula," Ariel grinned, tail wagging as she stepped out from her desk. Ursula smiled back as the pair reached out and briefly touched hands.

Mihoshi Academy Kaguya City, Macross 26 fleet.

Meanwhile, in a large sprawling campus, vivio got off of a tram and trotted to her advanced mechanics class in a ornate building. Various students waved hello, as she was a popular girl.

"Hi Vivio." A student waved. "Good morning."

"Good morning." Vivio smiled as she entered the building. She made her way through the building until she reached her class. She slid the door open and beamed at the room which was full of students. "Morning."

"Morning!" Various classmates smiled.

"You're late!"

"Am not, Rio!"

"Kiddding..." Rio laughed.

"Vivio!" A classmate waved.

"Hi Corona," Vivio smiled

Vivio sat next to Corona and a few other of her friends. Einhart Stratos sighed as Vivio strode by.

"You've got it BAD for her," A classmate noted.

"Do not." Einhart sighed.

Rio looked amused.

"I mean. not that she isn't cute.. charming... sweet..." Einhart trailed off

"See what I mean?" Corona noted then changed the subject. "We're meeting for shop later right?"

"Yeah, we're a bit behind on the project," Einhart admitted

"If someone wasn't making goo goo eyes at Vivio..."

"Don't be mean."

"Everyone here?" teacher's assistant Nove Nakajima asked briskly

"Here!" The class called out. In the first row were, Vivio, Einhart, Corona, Rio, Miura and Ixveria. In the second row were Fuka Reventon, Yunia Enclave and a few other students.

"Everyone in safety gear.. we don't want injuries."

"All right, we're making good progress on the Trooper rebuild," Nove said briskly, "Though I note Vivio's group is a BIT behind."

"Sorry, sensei!" Vivio scratched the back of her head.

"Anyway, remember we need every section ready by deadline..." Nove added, "for both units. Takamachi's team continue working on the arm. Reylie's team will work on the left leg and Jeffries' team will work on the engine for unit one."

"Yes ma'am." The teams working on unit one answered. She gave different assignments for unit two and then looked at both groups. "Alright get to work we have two hours until next class starts."

"Yes ma'am."They saluted and trotted out of the room, down a small hallway, grabbed their protective gear in said hallway and entered a medium sized mecha hanger. Two machines were being assembled in that area. The groups grabbed their tools, went to their various sections of the mech and started to go to work.

"Ok, let's finish off the rotary cuff in the wrist.." Einhart nodded. "Vivio check the rotator cuff actuators."

"Right." Vivio nodded, hooked a rope up to a harness and climbed up.

"Be careful climbing up there!" Rio warned.

"Its fine!" Vivio said "I'm wearing my harness."

Vivio, of course, was climbing over it like a monkey.

'Too bad be don't wear skirts with our unifoms,' Einhart thought

"Focus." Rio nudged her.

"Right yes sorry," Einhart coughed, grabbed some tools then pointed at the wrist. "I'm going go up there and assemble the wrist servo. Rio, can you climb up and brace that area."

"Aye!" Rio nodded and did as she was told. They worked to get the left wrist servo and the rotator cuff actuators."

Nove nodded approvingly as she watched the girls worked. Occasionally she would warn the girls about one thing or another but things were going rather smoothly. She then wandered out to a testing area outside and peeked at Jeffrey's team. The prototype plasma engine was humming as they put it through its paces.

"How's it going...?" Nove asked

"Pretty good." Jenna Jeffries nodded as they stood in a small bunker. "We're about to put it up to 75 percent."

"What's the power at now." Nove asked.

"Fifty percent." Jenna answered.

"Alright. Do it." Nove nodded.

"Increase power to 75 percent!" Jenna barked.

"Increasing power." A student nodded and pushed the throttle to the 75 mark. The engine started to thrum rythmically as it ramped up. "Powerplant is stable."

"Increase it to 89 percent." Jenna nodded.

"Increasing to 89 percent!" The student nodded as she ramped up the power. The engine started to thrum erratically as it reached 87 percent. "Ma'am that doesn't sound..."

Moments later, the powerplant shut down and and belched out a lot of steam and gas from its heat sinks. Jenna frowned. "Damn it. It broke down."

"Hey you got it to 75 percent. Give it time to cool off before you work on it." Nove patted her shoulder.

"Yes ma'am." Jenna nodded.

They continued to work for an hour and a half until their class time was up.

"Alright thats it." Nove nodded. "Wrap it up people. Please put away and clean your tools."

"Yes ma'am." The class nodded and did what they were told. Tools were cleaned and stored away, the floor was swept and the class filed out of the hangar.

"So some good progress." Nove nodded "The left and the right side is coming along nicely. The engine however willl need to be checked and reconfigured after school."

"Yes ma'am."Jenna's team replied.

"Alright. Thats it people. See you tommorrow." Nove nodded.

"Riiiiiiight." The class nodded and trotted off to their other classes.

Fourth defensive line.

Meanwhile on the fourth defensive line, a squadron of VF-13 Gamma variable fighters patrolled the area. Its squadron leader, flying as VF-13Z, glanced around then sighed when she noticed one was staying close to her wingmate.

"Good form, just not to close ." LTCmdr Nanoha Takamachi commanded.

"Y-yes ma'am." Subaru replied as she flew her VF-13A. "I'll stay here ma'am."

"Like she said not to close." Teana sighed.

"Ah sorry." Subaru apologized.

"Status people. Do you see anything aside from the debris up ahead." Nanoha asked.

"All clear for Invid so far," Fate reported from where her team was scouting nearby. She was also piloted in VF-13Z.

"Don't rush ahead TOO far, Fate!" Nanoha chided her.

"I'm flying cautiously. Don't worry." Fate reassured her. "I have Signum and Vita with me. So I'm fine."

"Fall back if your run into trouble." Nanoha advised.

"Will do. Fate out." Fate Testarossa nodded.

"Good." Nanoha nodded.

"Raptor 1 to Scepter 1." Dustine called out.

"Go ahead Raptor 1." Nanoha called out.

"We're getting an odd return from up ahead. Its not organic like the invids ships. But we're getting some bounce back and interference." Dustine replied.

"Hm. Interesting. Well still keep an eye out. Your squadron is the eyes and the ears of this area." Nanoha reminded her.

"Right." Dustine nodded and cut the link.

"Anything Scepter 4?" Nanoha asked.

"I don't see any invid on the radar." Ginga Nakajima noted as she piloted a VEF-13 fighter. "However, the debris ahead of us is causing some interference for my sensors."

"Is it bouncing signals back." Nanoha asked.

"Somewhat." Ginga replied. "Could be metallic rich asteroids or planetoids."

"Same thing that Raptor squadron is getting?" Fate asked.

"Possibly." Nanoha nodded then said. "Well then, lets take it slow when we get there."

"Yes ma'am." The squadron replied.

They continued on cruisng forward until they reached the debris. It wasn't asteroids or planetoids however. It was large chunks of space ship debris, destroyed mecha, fighters and other ships.

"All units in the area looks like we've got some ship debris ahead." Fate noted.

"I see some ship debris here too." Dustine replied.

"Can we ID it?" Nanoha asked.

"I'll investigate." fate nodded as they went from fighter to gerwalk mode.

"Be careful." Nanoha warned.

"Will do." Fate nodded then said. "Signum with me."

"Right." Signum nodded and followed her in to the the debris. They bobbed and weaved deflty though the debris until they reached a large section of what appeared to be the engine section.

Fate grunted recgonizing the lettering and the numerals on the aft of the ship. "I can't be totally certain but it looks Solnoid. It also looks like a ship from 50 years ago."

"That old huh." Nanoha noted

"Yeh." Fate nodded then asked. "Should we call it in?"

"Yeah.. the Solonoids might want to recover whatever's here too." Nanoha nodded.

"We should search the area," one pilot noted, "there COULD be intact stasis pods from the wreck."

"Good idea." Fate nodded.

"Scepter 1 to USN Kaguya." Nanoha called out. "We've discovered a solnoid ship among the space ship debris. Its broken up in parts but the aft section is mostly intact."

"Roger that Scepter 1," Komilia Sterling replied then paused. "See if you can find the bow section. That'll have the crew section as well as the statis pods in med bay 3."

"Will check." Fate nodded and they left the aft section to maneuver through the debris field. Gold flight bobbed around armored panels destroyed mechs and other debris until they found the bridge section."

"Found it." Fate said.

"Thank the mother." Signum nodded.

"Can you board safely? Could be survivors in statis pods." Komilia nodded.

"We'll see." Nanoha nodded.

"I volunteer!" Fate offered

"Okay, okay.. just CAREFUL please."

"Will do. Signum with me," Fate nodded and approached the vessels aft section. Vita and Zafira guard the area."

"Aye aye!" they chorused

"Space walking, now," Fate nodded, opened the variable fighters canopy and jetted off to a nearby airlock. Signum followed after her and the pair reached the lock. "Signum. Try the airlock."

"Yes ma'am. Move to the other side so you're not blown away by the escaping air." The red haired pilot nodded and opened a panel to the left of the door. With in the panel was a manual override switch. She grabbed the switch and turned it clockwise and the door swished open. Air did escape until it was gone. Once when Signum gave the all clear they moved into the airlock. Once they were aboard, Signum keyed the door closed and the door slid shut and air cycled back in.

"At least it has some power." Fate noted.

"Air's bad. Do NOT unseal your suit," Signum noted as warnings beeped on her suit.

"Ugh. Right." Fate noted as she saw the similar warning signs on her suit.

"The life pods should be near the middle of the ship.." Signum noted. "This way I think.'

"Gotcha." Fate nodded and followed Signum. They made their way down the corridor then breezed through a security station.

"Ew, ick," Fate sighed as she shoved something organic aside

"The control panel blew...likely killed them instantly." Signum said a bit somberly but still kept her composure. They continued on then found themselves in the medbay section. They passed med bays, small operating rooms and admin buildings before they reached another airlock.

Above the airlock door was the sign. "Cryosleep chamber."

"Got another door here." Fate noted.

"For security maybe..." Signum said. They tried the airlock panel but discovered the panel was locked down.

"Can't open it without the passcode." Fate frowned.

"Can Bardiche hack it?" Signum asked.

"Worth a try," Fate agreed and pulled out two cables and inserted into the panel. "Okay, Bardiche lets go to work."

"YES SIR," Bardiche noted as it was plugged in. She worked the controls a bit, bypassing this, overriding that until finally the door unlocked. Fate sighed and pulled the cables out. "Lets hope its not just deep space behind this door.

"Right." Signum nodded and slipped to the other side. "Ready?"

"Ready." Fate nodded and the airlock swished open. Lights came on automatically, illuminating several intact cryosleepo chambers.

"Looks like we found the cryo chamber bay." Fate noted as they entered.

"Call it in?" Signum asked.

"Yeah." Fate nodded then tabbed a button on her mini keyboard panel. "Scepter 5 to Kaguya.

"Go ahead Scepter 5." Komilia replied.

"We've arrived at the cryo chamber bay. We've got several survivors." Fate noted.

"Thats good news. We'll send a recovery team to retrieve them." Komilia replied. "Stay on site outside the ship and remain on station."

"Roger that." Fate nodded.
