Not everyone is born equal.

I had to learn that pretty early on. Some people are are stronger, some are smarter. Some are born rich, others poor.

Ever since about two hundred years ago, my world has been home to the greatest example of this discrimination: Meta-Abilities.

The first known meta-ability was a bioluminescent child. Ever since, at the age of four, children would awaken otherworldly powers for no known reason.

These "Quirks" gave ordinary people unordinary potential. Allowing even the lowest to have something that made them special.

But, as quirks grew in normality, the lack of a quirk became increasingly rare. Only zero point two percent of the worlds population lacked this genetic abnormality.

This made the "Quirk-less" outcasts, even so far as sub-human. This small community is being compelled to disappear... permanently.

This, though, is not a story about some kid who kills themselves. This is the story about how I, the quirk-less Izuku Midoriya, became the greatest scientist to ever grace this rock.

Let's take this from the top.

llllllll

"Sorry, he's quirk-less." Dr. Tsubasa says, as though he doesn't understand he just ruined my kids life. Truly, he doesn't. He's never seen, let alone met a quirk-less person.

"Are there any test you can run, or drugs you can give to stimulate a quirk?" I, Inko Midoriya, inquire. I am terrified of what where to happen if my son is quirk-less. I wish the doctor has just misdiagnosed Izuku.

"No," he replies calmly. He holds up two pictures and points to one. "This is a picture of the DNA that contains the Quirk Sequence, and this," he points to the other image, "is the DNA of your son. As you can see he is missing the required sequence for a quirk to form. Though, he is incredibly analytical and intelligent. In fact if not for his DNA analysis, I would say he has a non-physical quirk."

I smiled and a devious idea came to my mind. I would lie. I would tell my son has a mild intelligence quirk. Then he would tell his friends and he would live. Sure, he might be bullied or looked down on. But he wouldn't be quirkless, he wouldn't face the truth. Not like he had to.

I thanked the doctor and told him I would be getting independent testing done to make sure. I lied but it would keep him quiet for a while until I could lie to him.

I left that office a new woman.

lllllll

"Izuku," Mom said, I'm ecstatic to find out what my quirk will be. Maybe telekinesis like mom, or... fire breathing...like... dad. Never mind, I know I'll have a quirk, a good quirk. "You have a mind quirk."

"Like telekinesis?" I ask. I want, no need more information. She looks pained as I asked for more.

"No, more like you're just smarter then others." Her voice shrinks away near the end. I can understand why, I have always told her that I want to be a hero. But with a non-physical quirk like the one I have, I'll never be a pro hero.

"It's okay Mom, I'll just save people other ways then." I smile to show that everything is okay. I smile just like Allmight. I smile through any hardship and sadness. Because a smile is a lie. A great, amazing lie.
