As Kousei was holding the door handle, he felt a shiver down the spine, his heart rate was fast and little sweat was running down his forehead, probably because he ran a lot to reach her room, but mainly because he was about to find out what happened to her. "I can't do this", he was reluctant at first, he was too scared, she could have died during her surgery, another one that he loved so much but left him, he couldn't accept that. But he took courage and pulled it...

The window curtains in the room were opened, a bright sunshine was filtering through the glass, shining Kaori's sleeping face, she did it, she successfully passed the surgery.

A lot of emotions passed though Kousei's head, and he ended up crying, crying so many tears of joy, he felt so relieved, like a feather in the wind. He cried so much that Kaori couldn't help but wake up. "K-Kousei? Is that you?", hearing her voice again was such a good feeling for him, "Kaori, it's so good to hear you again!", his cheeks were red and tears were still dropping from his chin. She rubbed her eyes a bit and stretched her back to fully wake up, "Couldn't you cry quieter?! I was having such a beautiful dream before!", then she chuckled. That laugh, it was like a medicine for him, it made his day brighter.

Kousei dried his tears, "Sorry for waking you up, I didn't mean to...", "I was joking, I'm so happy that you came here to visit me!", he made a quick smile. Then there was a brief time of silence, she looked out of the window, "Spring is finally about to come back, my favorite season.", and she smiled at him, that was the same smile that Kousei saw during his execution, it was so contagious that he couldn't help but smile too.

Kousei sat on the bed, "What was your dream about?" he asked her, and she looked at him, "After giving me anesthesia for the surgery, I had such a weird dream, I was surrounded by cherry blossoms, they were spinning around me. Then they all flew away, and you were next to me, playing the piano. Sadness, tenacity an hope, this is what I felt from that execution. I don't know why, but I started playing my violin with you, we were in such a great harmony, it felt perfect. After we finished the execution I thanked you, it was such a unique feeling, then the cherry blossoms came back all around me, again. It was so good.".
Kousei was shocked, he couldn't believe it: "I-I really reached you?!".
She stared at him for a couple of seconds, "Yes, I think you managed to reach me, Kousei, and I'm so thankful for it. Thank you, for giving me the strength to fight my sickness and win. Thank you, for believing in me. Thank you, for all the inspiration you gave me. Thank you, thank you, thank you!" and she hugged him tightly in tears, "I wouldn't have been able to do all of this without you!". Kousei hugged back, it was such a memorable moment, "No, I should be the one thanking you, Kaori.", thought Kousei.

After the sweet hug, Kousei noticed a letter on the counter with his name written on it, "Is it for me?" he asked, "It would have been if I didn't make it trough the surgery, so... you don't need it anymore." she replied, "May I know what you wrote there?", "Sure... but I want to go on the roof first.".

He smiled, "You love that roof, huh?" he said, and they both laughed. Kousei placed her on his back and went up the stairs, "She feels heavier this time, this is a good sign" he thought. "You won't have to lift me soon, you know?" she said smiling, "I'll finally be able to walk again!", "I'm so happy for you, Kaori, really.".

When they got on the roof, Kousei placed her on the bench, and they enjoyed the fresh air for a while. "Isn't the snow beautiful? It's so clear and light!", she grabbed some snow, made a snowball and threw it to him, they both burst out laughing. "Yeah, I like it" he replied, they both briefly listened to the fragile and cold sound of the wind. "Kousei, come here...", Kaori pointed a seat on the bench next to her, and he sat. "I gotta tell you something, Kousei...", "I'm listening.",

"When I was 5 years old, I first heard you play the piano, it was at a recital for the piano school I was going to. This awkward, clumsy kid came onto the stage and accidentally hit the piano stool with his butt, that was too funny.", Kaori smiled at Kousei, "You inspired me so much: your execution was so full of colors, the sound was beautiful, like a 24-colour palette. I also started to play the violin because I wanted you to be my accompanist. When I found out that we were in the same middle school, I was ecstatic. I didn't know how to come to talk to you, there was no space for me in your friend group. So I told a single lie: I told that I like Watari, but that's not true! And this lie brought me to you, Kousei.", they looked at each other, "The person I met, however, wasn't how I expected: He was more pessimistic and passive than I thought, he was also stubborn and a voyeur, his voice was lower than I expected and he was much manly too, but I knew that he was such a kind person.", there was some silence, then she started to talk again: "When I was a kid, I've been diagnosed a very serious disease, and it got worse over the years. But thanks to you, I got enough strength and courage to overcome it, it's all thanks to you!". Kaori then looked at Kousei straight in the eyes, and began to talk again: "Kousei... I love you, I love you, I LOVE YOU!". Silence for a while, looking at each others, this sentence echoed in Kousei's heart.

A sunshine filtered through the clouds and shined her smiling face, "You are so beautiful", he thought, "I love you too, Kaori", he gently placed a hand on her neck, and kissed her.
His heart melted, he felt an explosion of bright colors like a melody, the world was more colorful than it had ever been, and he could feel her heartbeat, it was so fast. She placed her hand on his other hand, it was so happy to feel hers, again.
She then looked at him with a light smile, a tear ran down her cheek, and hugged him tightly: she was waiting for that moment for so long, it remained etched in their memories forever.
The clouds moved, leaving the sun shining and giving colors to the world. Kousei placed Kaori on his back and brought her back to her room.
"Come back soon." she told him, "I will.". They smiled at each other, then Kousei walked away, closing the door.
