"Damn it! I've messed up! I've cut a crucial vessel. Come on, pass me the hemostatic forceps right away! Come on!". The cardiac monitor started beeping faster, and faster, until it made a continuous and monotonous sound.
Kaori suddently woke up with a gasp, she had a nightmare. The surgery has been such a terrible experience for her. Before taking the anesthesia she was scared and was feeling lonely, until Kousei reached her with his music and made her have that beautiful dream.
She looked around, it was the middle of the night, the moon was so big and shining, she was able to see it through the window.
Then she looked at Kousei, he was sleeping on a chair next to her. She gently grabbed his hand, it was warm, she immediately felt better and relaxed. "I'm so glad that you are always with me." she thought, making a light smile, then she went to sleep again.
The next morning
"Come on, you are almost there... Great job, you are making a lot of improvements.", Kaori was doing her motor rehabilitation with the trainer, she was walking better and faster each time, leaning on the steel bar.
"Oof, it's so tiring!" she whined with sweat running down her forehead, "But it will absolutely be worth it.", "I believe that you're ready to use the cruthes, do you agree?" said the trainer, Kaori thought for a moment, then looked at the window to the hallway, there was Kousei watching, he gave her a thumbs up smiling, "Yes, I'm ready.".
Kaori finally left the hospital for the first time after a long time, she was finally able to walk again all by herself. "Woah! Don't they look so cool?!", she was flexing her brand new crutches to Kousei, he smiled, "Yeah, but it's even cooler the fact that you're walking again.", she chuckled. "Where do you wanna go, Kaori?", she thought for a while, "Oh yeah, I know where...", she looked at him, her eyes brightened, "I wanna go to the place where we first met, the garder of the Towa Hall." she said with a big smile.
They started walking towards the place very slowly as Kaori still had to fully recover, "Sorry for being so slow..." she said embarassed, "My legs are still not fully co-operating with me...", "Don't worry, I'm not in a rush, we have all the time we want.".
After arriving in the park, they sat on a bench in front of the exact place where they first met. The first buds sprouted on the trees of the park, the plants were releasing a fragile fragrance, spring just started.
"I love this scent, it reminds me of happiness for some reason." she said, "It reminds me of you instead." thought Kousei.
In that exact place he met Kaori playing the melodica under a full-bloomed cherry tree last spring, and from that moment his fate has begun to change.
Kaori placed her hand on Kouei's, "I'm so happy that I met you, Kousei.", he blushed a bit, "I've been so lucky.".
They enjoyed the quiet sound of the leaves moving in the wind for a while, she attached to his harm and laid her head on his shoulder, it was a magical moment.
The night was approaching, and a lot of little white dots began to appear in the dark sky.
"Look, Kousei! The stars are so visible from here!", she lifted her hand towards them, "They are so high in the sky, I want to be up there and shine like them one day.", her eyes were so hopeful and bright, "I admire your optimism so much, Kaori, you always find a way to discover joy even in the smallest things." he said smiling at her.
After a while, they set out towards the hospital. "It was a beautiful day, wasn't it?" asked Kaori to Kousei, "Yeah, I enjoyed it a lot, thank you for making us come here.".
After arriving at the hospital, he took her to her room. "I gotta go home now, Kaori, I'll come see you tomorrow, ok?", "Yeah...", "Bye bye!", he smiled at her.
Just before opening the door, Kousei felt his hand being grabbed, and he got pulled.
Kaori kissed him all of a sudden, his heart rate went crazy, it was such an instant and intense but romantic moment. She then let him go,
"Bye, Kousei.".
