This story starts during the Goblet of Fire. Close to the Yule ball
Chapter One
Hermione Jean Granger was sick of being followed to the library. She knew the only reason Viktor was following her was because he wanted to ask her to the Yule Ball. She did not under any circumstances want to go with him. He was nice enough but she had been waiting for someone else to ask her. It didn't seem likely that it would happen though. Every time she closed her eyes, she pictured red hair and freckles. She pictured the most enticing blue eyes in the world. A boy who she had no business being in love with. She was certain he didn't feel the same.
"Her-my-own?", Viktor called her name.
"It's Her-my-oh-knee," she responded, a bit agitated at being pulled from her thoughts.
"Oh, my apologies. I was wandering if you would go to the Ball with me?", Viktor asked.
She knew it. She didn't want to go alone but she didn't want to say yes in case HE asked her. "Um, Viktor I really appreciate you thinking of me, but I'm not sureā¦."
At that moment, thankfully, Harry and Ron came running into the library.
"Hermione? What are you doing with Krum?" Ron said his ears reddening.
"That's none of your business." Krum responded, irritably.
"Ron! Calm down. We were just talking. I'll see you later, Viktor." She grabbed her things and pulled Ron and Harry away.
Harry looked at her curiously, "Hermione, is there something we should know?" Harry arched an eyebrow.
"No! Well, Viktor did ask me to the Ball, but I'm not sure if I'll go with him." She answered, sheepishly.
"WHAT!" Ron screamed. "What do you mean Krum asked you to the Ball?"
"Ron, don't yell at Hermione." Harry said, scornfully. "She has every right to go to the Ball with whoever she wants."
"Thank you, Harry," she responded.
"Oh whatever, why don't you just go together?!" Ron stomped away, muttering about going to bed.
"Hermione, at some point you have to tell him." Harry watched Ron walk away. Hermione knew Harry hated keeping secrets from their best friend. "He's liked you since I can remember. If you don't tell him soon, I'm not sure he'll ever forgive either of us for keeping his hopes up."
"I know, Harry. I love Ron, but he's like a brother to me. I don't know how to tell him in a way that won't ruin our friendship." She looked down at her shoes. "Honestly, if I felt the same for him maybe things would be better."
Harry put his arm around her, "It'll be okay."
They walked toward the Gryffindor Tower. Outside the portrait hole, they came across Neville, who had forgotten the password again. The Fat Lady was not happy when Harry said the password and allowed Neville to enter first. In the Common Room, Ron was no where to be seen. They spotted Fred and George playing gobstones and walked over.
"Fred, have you seen Ron?" Harry asked.
"Yeah, he came in an hour ago. He went off to the dormitory muttering about being the odd one out?" The twins both eyed them inquisitively.
"Well, I'm going to go talk to him." Harry said and took off to the boy's dormitory.
She was left alone with the twins and about a dozen other students. She picked a comfy arm chair. She pulled out her books and began studying. Half way through her homework for Ancient Runes, she began to daydream. Staring into the fire, she began to see herself with HIM. She saw them dancing. His hands on her waste, his blue eyes staring into her brown ones. Suddenly, she was jarred from her thoughts by her homework hitting the floor. It was late. She looked around the Common Room and realized she was alone. She collected her things and headed for the girl's dormitory.
When she reached the door leading to the dormitory, a hand grabbed her wrist. She spun around and her eyes saw blue whirlpools as her lips crashed against his.
